What cozy comfort food should I veganize next?
Some type of holiday cookie?
Cabbage rolls
How about frogmore stew (SC) or crawfish boil (LA)?
Red velvet cake 😋
Hi Caitlin! Great recipe! I'll definitely try it! I also make mine with French lentils ( I find them at Whole Foods). I put cubed sweet potatoes in the filling along with the lentils, bell peppers, corn, peas and I season it with cumin, cilantro, salt & Pepper and red pepper flakes. Very different flavor profile than yours so I am very excited to try your recipe 🤗. By the way I'm obsessed with your butternut squash/ granny Smith apple soup. I've made it 5 times already 😅. It's unbelievably delicious 😋 😋😋😋
Honestly,
after Dylan has returned home , you look, sound and are happier than before. I love seeing this because you sound so much more cheerful, glowing in your own way. The old Caitlin seems to be back. I'm soo happy for the two of you 💖
6:11 “vegan garlic” 😂😂😂
As a Brit, cottage pie and shepherds pie are traditionally different. Cottage pie uses beef mince and shepherds pie is made from lamb mince. The vegan version looks better than both though!
Yes the same in Australia.
Oh in America we use beef. We call it ground beef lol. And it’s felicitous. I miss it. Idk I don’t like lentils but this looks too good.
@@maybe1daysoon If you don't like the taste of lentils but want to keep it vegan, you could try using tofu or a vegan mince, and amp up the heartiness with some (porchini) mushrooms. I once got my hands on some FRESH porchinis when they were in season and boy, you could even make carnivores happy with that sauce.
As an American, I'd like to say we knew that. But experience tells me that most Americans do not know that Shepherd's Pie used the meat that the shepherds cared for.
I’m vegan, & Caitlin has helped me so so SO much
I started ordering French green lentils online and it’s so worth it! I love the texture.
I really love how much she explained each ingredient of the recipe!
I love when Dylan is in your videos! It's so nice to watch you guys try everything at the end!
I always love your healthy comfort food, I RELLY love vegan shepherds pie..🙌🏻
I am one of those who drastically limits oil/fat in my diet. Not only because it's calorically dense but because it damages the endothelial lining of the arteries (you've seen that in the movies Forks Over Knives and The Game Changers). When you don't have oils or vegan butter often, your body neuroadapts over time and you don't miss it. I always appreciate how Caitlin explains the reasons why she uses certain ingredients and how they work scientifically within the recipes because that's been so helpful to know and understand when cooking. It's helped me to become a better cook. I just adapt her recipes to my way of eating and I appreciate all her recipes and the education I've gotten from her over the years. Always give a Thumbs Up before I watch cuz I'm never disappointed!!!
Thanks Fran! I'm glad you enjoy the recipes and are able to make them work well for you :)
This looks SO good for thanksgiving!!

Looks so yummy!!
Hello, One of my favorite recipes to make, great share!
Looks amazing, thanks Caitlin! I'll be making this for Thanksgiving!
Vegan shepherd pie is among my favourite non spicy recipes. Fantastic video and recipe as always Catlin and I have tried a few of your recipes and some are recipes that I continue to make regularly. Love 🥰 the video and love 💕 Catlin.
I think in the uk the difference between cottage pie and shepherds pie is the former uses beef and the latter uses lamb.
Oh and this is the first video of yours I’ve watched it looks awesome!
More recipes like this one, please! Thank you! :)
I my have to make that. Looks so good. ❤️
Hi Caitlin wow this looks delicious we're gonna have to try this thank you for sharing that's❤
Nice video, thanks for sharing!
Thank you, Caitlin 😘
We call it cottage pie in my family 🥰 it’s so good can’t wait to make this one!!
Such a well done video! I loved how you switched between voiceover and talking directly to the camera with interesting information and tips. You are such a well rounded creator, Catelyn! ❤️

SWOON! This looks so good! Also, I always laugh at your videos now and I love that so much.
Thanks for sharing good recipe!
I really loved this little cozy cook video and your warm personality :) I was also wondering if you could maybe try making vegan macarons, that would be so interesting. Love your videos much❤️
Delish thank you gonna try
Love this recipe idea. I have made one with lentles and beyond beef sub. For taste and texture for my meat eater family. ( they never knew).
Awesome
YUM!
That looks Amazing, ultimate vegan confort food ! 😍 Btw you look so beautiful !
Thank you for sharing this Caitlin!! Can’t wait to make this! I’m from the UK, we call a beef pie a cottage pie and lamb pie a Shepard’s pie. So from a uk standpoint this is probably more of a cottage pie than Shepard’s pie because you use beef imitation broth… also sometimes we put cheese on the top! (Vegan obvs)
Yum!
Now this is next level comfort food 😳
In the uk cottage pie is made with beef mince and shepherds pie is made with lamb mince x
ahh great to know, thank you!
I was going to make a lasagna for Thanksgiving but I am going to try your shepherds pie instead. Thanks Caitlin for your videos and I love the history lesson.
Thank you for this great recipe, i never ate lentils bcs they're so bland but this recipe will do the trick
WHAT, now that's what I'm talking about!!! I'm going to try with fresh veggies I think, canned would work too
Love that shirt! Adorable! Looks like little wings 🦋
LOVE your channel!!! ❤️ Wondering: did you cook the lentils prior to adding them to the pan, or were they raw and then only cooked in the oven?
Close but Shephards pie in beef and Cottage pie is Lamb! I enjoy making a vegan version too! I am English so it is a classic staple!
aaand now I know what Im bringing to thanksgiving dinner with a bunch of carnivores!!! thank you, you da best!
1. I love what you’re wearing!
2. I love a Shepard’s Pie!
So where did you happen to get your French lentils? Yummy recipe!
❤️Another Fantastic Recipe! I love watching your cooking videos!🧑🍳 I make UA-cam cooking videos too. 🌹I love learning from creative and talented creators like you! 👍🏻
This recipe video really gave me Good Eats vibes 🤣
Target sells them for $2.69 their organic Good & Gather brand
I'm vegan sometimes
Hi thanks for the video…. Which plant based milk do you use/recommend? I find that almond milk make the potatoes taste sweet even though I’ve used unsweetened almond milk. Thanks.
Big big Like ..woow Amazing !!! ....👍🙏 friend 👌. I highly appreciate your channel and great content.👏. 👍 my friend stay healthy and have a blissful day 👍🙏 🎵 Stay safe 🎵🎵👍🔔✔🔔.👍
Where do you get vegan beef broth?
Mmmmmmmmmmmm😍
Looks amazing, but as q Brit who grew up with shepherd's pie and cottage pie, the only thing I'd omit is sweetcorn. It doesn't belong here. But I love this recipe regardless x
Listen if you try sweet corn in your shepherds pie you would take that back. The sweetness is a great contrast that’s how my parents always made it.
In the UK:
Shepherd's Pie - with lamb mince
Cottage Pie - with beef mince
Gardener's Pie - with veggies
At least that was my experience.
thank you for clarifying! :)
Do you have a substitution for the mushrooms?
You can use more lentils instead. There's notes on this in the blog post!
What else do people typically eat with Shepard's pie? I feel like its more of a filling side to me lol
Would there be a substitute for the vegan Worcestershire? I cannot find it where I live in any stores and it's really pricey online. Thanks! 😊
It really depends where you live / what you have access to! Try this article: food52.com/blog/24403-best-worcestershire-sauce-substitutes
What is imitation beef broth? Why not use vegetable broth?
Hi just confused, I thought those on the right were green lentils? I believe Brown lentils are an entirely different type of lentil that is more brown
I just had to ask, you said vegan garlic. Does non vegan garlic exist?
meant to say worcestershire :)
"vegan garlic" - there's non-vegan garlic? did i miss something? (i'm genuinely asking! is garlic "harvested" or pollinated abusing animals?)
just a slip of the tongue lol
She probably wanted to say vegan Worcestershire, I guess 😅
thank goodness 😅
Toad in the hole. ( yes it’s an English thing)
Love your videos Caitlin! What's the best email for you? Want to ask you something.
*vegan garlic* LOL
I'm making this for Thanksgiving, thank you!! I heard the "crisp crisp".
