Stonehenge is amazing park up. The droves is the service road. We stayed there last year. If you walk down the lane and go through the gate you can see the stones for free. The northern lights are out of this world we seen them in iceland.
Totally get the Stonehenge pull Ian, we need to do that also. Mate midges are a nightmare and to be avoided at all costs. We enjoyed the NC500, busy though in places but still worth it. We’ve not been to Scandinavia but my Dad did bless him and he said it was the best tour he went on. A mate of mine caught the boat to Iceland to 🤷♂️. Great options here Ian all the best Helen and Martin.
Thank you. The list I made is an achievable one so fingers crossed for this year. I would love to know about photography. Nothing like creating memories you can keep. Would love Germany too. So much to see and so little time. Happy travels. Enjoying your vlogs. 👍🏻
We completed the Nc500 last June / July in our 5.7 metre Motorhome and loved every minute of it . We wild camped at the side of Loch Lomond for 1 night then the rest of the time stayed on CMC sites. Places we stayed at Inverness,Brora,Thurso,Durness,Ullapool and Kinlochewe. Also had 3 nights on Skye. Visited Cromarty, Dunnet Bay, Smoo Cave, Gairloch, Kylesku,Betty Hill. We intend to go again ...... Only time we had an issue with midges was at Kinlochewe at dusk and first thing in the morning. Hey ho still worth visiting though.
Hi Jillian. Sounds fantastic. I can't wait to go. Given me lots of ideas there too. I will be looking them up on google. Thank you and thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. 👍
So Malvern is a place. No idea mate. Ha ha. Geography not my area of expertise. To be honest I don’t have an area of expertise. Would love to go to the show though. 👍🏻
Hi Ian we did the Nc 500 on 2018 in May had no problem with the Midge’s.We stared from lochness shores campsite travelled west to John o groates also used an local guide travel app on iPhone that was really good
@@TravellingfromScratch definitely worth it Windhaven campsite is worth a look for chilling out at the time you could let your dog off the lead as long as you keep an eye on them only road walks for them but you overlook the sea
If you're doing the NC500 in winter you can see the Northern Lights while you do it. I live in Lossiemouth and we see them quite a bit, even better further North.
Forest of Dean lovely place Tintern Abbey , Chepstow Castle all near to each other. Abergavenny is my home town about 20miles from Chepstow it’s on the edge of National Parc stunning area surrounded by hills and mountains . The Black Mountains National Park about 20 miles from me , keep going there’s Llandovery , Carmarthen ,Tenby , St David’s the list goes on .Malvern do a great Spring and Autumn flower show it’s a big event attracting thousands of people.
That’s brilliant. Thanks Rhys. It’s great to get ideas from someone with local knowledge. I’ll make a note of all the places for future visits. Thank you. 👍🏻
If you are interested in doing a show Vanlife Eats Big Picnic was excellent last year. Its down in Basingstoke August bank holiday. Last year they had talks from youtube vanlifers, Lou and Em from campervibe were there giving a talk on the Sunday. It sold out quick last year and I expect this year will be similar. It had a proper festival feel.
Would love to see your wildcamp at Stonehenge 👍 something we really want to do. NC500 sounds awesome. Scotland is so gorgeous. Forest of Dean sounds great as well. We love dogs. So with you there! You’ve got some great ideas there Ian. Hope they work out for you this year 👍😊🧙♂️
Hi Graham and Ellie. I'm gonna try and do that wild camp at Stonehege as soon as possible. When the wind dies down a bit hopefully. Really hope to complete my list in 2022 so I can start a new one for 2023. 👍
Some good shouts there matey, Scotland without a doubt is wonderful and I’d love the Scandinavian ideas too let’s hope all the plans come to fruition 👍 nice addition to the collaboration cheers buddy 🖤🏴☠️
Thanks Rick. I’m sure I will manage some if not all of them this year but I will aim to do them all. Really fancy the outdoor shows. Do I need to buy tickets and if I do is there a web site to buy them from that you can share. 👍🏻
Good list. We did the NC500 twice in recent years, my tip would be do it anti-clockwise, save the best until last. Also, take in a ferry trip or two on the west coast to visit an island. I did encounter midges once in August, but only briefly on Mull (not really NC500 I know), but repellent saw them off.
Thanks for the tip Lee. Anti clockwise it is. I will squeeze in as much as I can while I’m there. Love Scotland and really looking forward to the trip. Nothing organised yet but defo on my bucket list. 👍🏻
Sounds like some great places to visit you are thinking about this year. Agree ref midges - all be it hoping to avoid when we go to Scotland in June - your new curtain should keep anything out coming from the cab area 😀 Enjoy - David 👍
I love the new curtain. I’ve made a few adjustments to it now and it has grown on me. Not only does it keep the cold out and the warm in but it acts as a sound barrier too. The gift that keeps on giving David. 👍🏻
@@TravellingfromScratch I imagine, I forgot how much colder the cab area gets. I have has a little fan heater running to keep the chill off on low and it’s pointing to the back of the van and it’s warm at the back and you wouldn’t really know it’s on at the front as it’s cold - surprised at how much heat does get lost in the cab area, I think when you’ve finalised the tweaks you’re making to it in order to perfect it (though sounds like you’re just about there) it’s a great solution for wild camping and keeping the van cooler in summer and warmer in winter without an external screen. Enjoyed watching you perfect it as completely get your end game - David 👍
Hi Ian, short days and long nights eigh, does Julie know? On the NC 500 if your looking for a quiet site we stayed for a few nights on Ardelve camp site on the shore of Loch Alsh near the Skye bridge, small & friendly with great views and they don't take bookings. Just talking to a guy at work today who said the camper spaces at Lytham St Annes have gone up to £15 a night which seems a bit steep for a car park. Cheers K.
Thanks Alan. I’ll see what’s going on in may if possible and if not I will plan for September. I say plan but I never do really. I’ll decide on a Friday and be gone on Saturday. That’s my idea of planning. 😂
Hi mate, interesting wish list. Northern lights is on my list as well. You happened to mention Snow chains, I would recommend getting a set and carrying them anyway. Particularly because of the FWD your van. They work just as well if ya get stuck in mud ( ask me how I know 🥴)
Thanks for the advice. I will definitely look to invest in some snow chains or boots. Don’t know if I need to change to winter tyres. Waiting for someone to give me some advice on that but I think it would probably be a good idea. I’ll keep you posted. 👍🏻
@@TravellingfromScratch I know a lot of van lifers have upgraded to BFGoodrich Ko2 tyres, and have been giving them good reviews. I'm certainly looking at them for my little van. (Toyota hiace)
