Travelling from Scratch
Приєднався 2 лип 2021
This UA-cam channel was started after buying an Elddis CV40 campervan. The van was bought so that we could travel with our dogs and enjoy holidays in the UK and abroad. Since buying the van we have made modifications that make the van more suitable for our own requirements. These modifications will not suit everyone as everyone has their own travel requirements but if the modifications I make help anyone else with ideas for their van or motorhome then I am happy to have helped. This channel will be dedicated to recording memories for the future, DIY modifications and as a form of entertainment for subscribers and watchers of the channel. I am not an expert in any way but I am happy to have a go with my own vehicle. It's up to you what you do with your vehicle. Good luck and thanks for watching.

Total Disaster in the bedroom of my CV40 camper!
I have just purchased a CV40 ( Still not collected ) and was wondering about that bed… Thank you
Hi, I’ve just searched for that item on eBay and it came up blank. Are they still available? What’s the sellers name?
Hello. Do you still recommend this?
If you roll out the spare wheel cable completely, you can pull the wheel under the bumper. You don't have to crawl under the car. (Dis)assembly of the hook is also much easier. The winch first pulls the tire back under the car and then up against the attachment.
I’m thinking of buying a CV40 but as you have decided to make the bed permanent I’m wondering if it might be better buy a van that comes with a permanent bed already...? Do you think that too?
Great idea and so simple a fix. We have the same problem in our old VW van
Very well made and informative video - just thinking of buying a CV40
Thank you very much. Very helpful. I have identical setup on my fiat Ducati roller team 785. Don’t fancy it but if I need to, at least I’m in the know.👍👍👍
I filled up my waste water in my cv40 45ltr with cleaning solution for a over night soak and the first led turned red on the water display indicating full waste. Shame the clean water indication isn't as reliable.. Great video's as always your a natural.
Thanks for this video , it’s been a great help 👍
I can't find this item on Ebay, is Jeffthenut still supplying this product ?
Brilliant 👍🏻 - good effort.
Great video please tell me how to contact seller/ maker to purchase. Thank you. Mark
Thanks for this. I'm definitely carrying my de Walt impact driver from now on. I can use it for lowering the spare and raising the jack as well as loosening the nuts.
Useful video Thank you. I have just bought a 2024 cv40.Unfortunately it came without a spare wheel or carrier. I managed to get hold of a new steel spare wheel and tyre and am still trying to get find a carrier. I am currently still lugging it about inside the van.
Thank you !!!! Great video !
Thanks for such s detailed video, where you didn't miss key steps and/or tips...brilliant!
Brilliant video sir! You saved my life! Camper company showed me everything except what to do if puncture! God bless you!
Thankyou for tips and advice.Great Video
Hi Can you tell me what mattress you bought. We have just bought a CV40
Good results but we are doing ours a bit different. We plan on putting a magnetic strip along the top and holding the curtain in place with magnets so easy to put on and take off, saves all that drilling lol. Hope its lasted well for you over the years :)
Thanks for your efforts to show everyone how that system works, appreciate it
OMG !!! I’m in my mid 70s no way could I do that . Thank you so much for your video. It’s definitely a breakdown service for me.
Do that in the winter with frozen fingers 😮
Hi, one year on was the upgrade worth it?, considering the Osram 200% as planning trip into Europe in March and whilst I like to be parked up at night sometimes you just cannot avoid some night time driving for one reason or another. I took the headlight out for access to fuse/relay box so your video was great help and I took extra care retightening the extended screw😀Thank you for the video
Hi can I ask if the sliding door stopper is still working well? Thanks 😊
Hi mate know this is an old video but you don’t have the old flooring you removed by any chance?
Hello, we are hoping to take delivery of our Auto-Trail Adventure 65 soon and I came across your video for the door stop, I've tried to put in the ebay reference number you quote but it does not come up with anything. Is Jeff the Nutt still making the door stops, if so could you send me the link to his ebay shop please? Many thanks.
Brilliant thanks 👍
According to the government website the rules have changed again regarding LED replacement bulbs see below This special notice tells you about changes to the rules for headlamp conversions. From March 22 2021, not all motorcycles and vehicles will fail the MOT test if their halogen headlamp units have been converted to be used with high intensity discharge (HID) or light emitting diode (LED) bulbs.
Thank you very much. Great informative video. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Great video as usual Ian, have had this issue with the insulation dripping on my CV20 which had me stumped. Will now get it sorted. If you need extra height to work try Milenco Quattro ramps with safety chocks behind the back wheels, handbrake on and leave in gear. Thanks again.
mi pare che non hai la più pallida idea di come funziona l'argano porta ruota.
Hope your keeping well Ian. I liked the reversing camera dig at Rick. To be fair to Rick, I watched his reversing sensors fitment vlog, which helped me no end.
No wild camping was had here. This is glamping.
Great video!
It is indeed "a thing of beauty"!
Would love for someone to actually say what u wind thewheel down with ,iv not tool withthe jack
Great top tip. Thanks for posting. I’ve a CV60 and just done the overflow mod after watching this. I used a short length of garden hose which fits perfectly on the overflow pipe. There was enough space to fit it without kinking it to bend it down. I’ve cable tied the loose end to the chassis. Thanks again.👍
You talk about bike tracks in the mud and good tracks for mountain biking. NOOO. The New Forest Code will tell you that cycling is only permitted on designated waymarked cycle routes.
On my 2023 cv20 I have a slightly different screw plate on the bottom of the fly screen. It does still pop out if you try to pull the fly screen across to high up. There’s a black line where you meant to position your hand. Providing the do that it doesn’t pop out.
never laughed so much at a video in a long time lol great review. think you'll find the snow foam is fine, the actual foamer you get in the kit and lack of pressure is what lets it down. have the hydroshot myself and use it to give the car a final rinse down with deionised water to save getting water spots.
Hi enjoy watching video were can I order one link please Brian
16.40 bought the pushfit elbow and pipe ready to follow your lead. Unfortunately the 15mm stub, protruding from the tank is too close to the frame of the vehicle so the elbow won’t fit. Very frustrating. I use a flow meter to make sure I don’t overfill so need to keep using this. On the lookout for some flexi 15mm I/dia plastic tube 🫤
Hi , wind the cable fully out & pull the wheel to the back of the camper or van - it makes it a lot easier. Edward.
I'm very grateful to you for this video. I just found out my spare wheel isn't holding pressure due to a dodgy valve. I stopped the vid half way and went and followed the instructions. I wouldn't have known where to start without it. I have to say the procedure is not easy. I found using the jack to hold the wheel up worked well cos you can push the tyre hard up against the underside and theres no danger of it falling on your arm while you try to detach it. It does get in the way a bit though. I reckon the most fiddly part is getting the thingy on the end of the cable up through the hole in the wheel. There is no real clearance and it keeps sticking. Edit one day after: Just had a new valve fitted and tyre ready to be put back on the carrier. Turns out if I just keep lowering the carrier there is plenty enough cable to get it right out the back of the van. So no having to support the heavy wheel and this makes fiddling with the thingy so much easier. Thanks anyway cos I wouldn't have known where to start. Now I'm an expert 💪
if you continue to wind the spare wheel down after it hits the floor, there is enough slack cable to just pull the wheel out from under the van, it makes it really really easy to remove the plate from the spare wheel...just drag the wheel out from under the van theres is plenty of spare cable, then when returning the wheel its easy to put the holding plate back through the hole and simply wind it back in under the van and up into place, the winding mechanism will drag the wheel back under and up, although if you want to give the wheel a push it helps....doing it the way shown on the vid makes it really really difficult.
I cant find this item on eBay either, does anyone have contact details for Jeff / Geoff the nut? Thanks
Excellent informative video Ian, thank you for taking the time and effort to make it. I just hope I never need to do this because I struggle to brush my teeth these days. 😂😂
Hi Ian. I'm 71. A retired plumber with a bad back lol. It looked a bit difficult for you at only 25? What do you think at my age? Should I give it a go just for a practice? We have a 2019 Elddis 155 with a big overhang at the back. Now, you changed the front wheel and could see the cab jacking point but ours is a coach built, as they call them and the jacking point isn't too obvious. After only 4 years and 21,000 miles the front tyres are half worn and have tiny cracks between the treads. It's just passed its MOT. The tester said the cracks are nothing to worry about - but since then, after scrambling about scaping rust off black brackets and painting them with Hammerite, I noticed the back tyres (still have about 6mm of tread on them) have even bigger and longer splits in them! Now it's not happened overnight so it must have gone through the MOT with these big splits no trouble. They say if they aren't through to the canvas they are ok. But we have a problem. There is a massive 70lbs of pressure in the fronts and a mind blowing 80lbs in the backs. In fact the tyre pressure limit on the sidewall is 80lbs and with cracks in them I shudder to think! Some people with older vans say they've let them down to 60 front and 70 back with a slightly smoother ride and still good handling but if I do that with mine the bloody warning comes on the speedo telling me the tyres are underinflated. Can these be either adjusted or cancelled all together? One bloke reckoned that Elddis put more pressure than's really needed to avoid flatspots during storage. Is this bulls**t or what? I can see a big bill for 4 new tyres looming up but guess what - I won't be changing the buggers! Great video by the way.
The pressures you see on the door panel, are for a fully loaded white van man's van. Get your van to a weighbridge and weigh both axles, then send it to the tyre manufacturer and they'll email you back the correct pressures. We do do this with every van and have never had a problem, CV20 and I think my pressures are 55 to 58 front and 58 to 60 rear. The van runs and handles very well along with being comfortable and not feeling every bump..
I did see an adder when I was up there earlier this year. It absolutely pished it down there
