The shopping experience is better at more ' upmarket' supermarkets if that's what you like. No walking round a bare-bones building and queuing 10 deep or more at the only staffed checkout. I've abandoned my shopping a few times due to the wait to checkout.
Totally before I started watching your channel I did this exact taste test myself and came to the same conclusion and now buy Aldi only and save money xx
Well I’m going to try these as I love dark chocolate digestives but my hubby refuses to buy anything made by McVities because they are shutting down the factory in Scotland
Well when they come TV and say price matched with Aldi it’s just a great advert for Aldi. People conclude rightly if they’re so worried about Aldi better pop in and see for yourself.
Hi, Gareth. Thanks for another informative review. Just as before, don't have the wool pulled over your eyes by the more popular larger brands. Keep up the spot on work. Best wishes from Scotland.
The Lidl ones are much better than the Aldi ones, much more like a traditional digestive. Both are fantastic value though, McVities are good but the price when not on offer is eye watering.
I've never met a Chocolate Digestive I didn't like and sometimes the supermarket brand ones change a bit which I assume is because they have changed supplier. They are all good though. I think a lot of the supermarkets do a cheap value chocolate digestive. The only thing that bugs me about the Aldi one is how close they are mimicking the McVities packaging I really think products like this should have their own distinct packaging rather than try to pretend to shoppers they are the same product. I think for most of us its not about McVities vs Aldi its about which value chocolate digestive is cheapest. I've never found any difference in chocolate digestives worth paying for, cheapest is best for me. I tend to shop where I have a voucher to shop.
we like aldis and lidls but not mc vitis which shows that not everything is better because its more expensive . and the saying you get what you pay for . and a 2 pack for 2 pounds is a big difference .
It's SOOOO hit and miss with the cheaper stuff so these comparisons really help. As an opposite experience, I bought Tesco crackers instead of the classic Jacobs and they were nowhere near as good, didn't even have a proper "crunch" to them.
I was eating Aldi biscuits the other day and they tasted just as good as the McVities ones. I have shopped at Aldii for the last five years now and the quality of their food is as good as any of the other supernarkets. Folks, do not waste your money. Hard work earning it, so easy to waste it.
Morning just caught you before my hosp appointment, bit picky with biscuits but Aldi a great cash saver with not much, if any, difference, keep doing what you do as you do it so well 🖖 keep well
Hi, I’ve just come across your channel, it’s great to hear a fellow northerner. 🙂 Thank you for this review, it’s good to know that in these challenging financial times, we can still have our comfort food. Glad i found this channel mate. Great insight into my food spending habits. Thanks for the content lad! Be great to see you compare a pie from a local butchers vs the brands and Aldi. I usually find those less expensive and absolutely rammed with meat.

Best 2 for 1 in the bicky world, I’d never bothered with Aldi until I started watching your videos so you change my life lol and my budget, keep them coming mate
Morning Gareth! I dreamt of a ten shilling note for my birthday when I was (were) a lad. I think your appreciation of both biccies sounds as tho' it should be on an 'Adult' channel of some kind! I wish I could eat 'em, but perhaps in another life! The supermarket has just opened! (yay!!!!!) a choice now of the superb Coq Au wotsit doo-dah, or emptying the vat of coffee by immersing an entire packet of chocolate biccies! Must remember to take the wrapper off this time, very messy otherwise! Thank ye kindly & VBW x
Thanks for sharing this comparison with us, I am lucky to have Aldi just five minutes away, Aldi’s biscuits are just as good as named brands, and the dark chocolate ones are really good, keep them coming, a big thumbs up 👍
Nice to see you back bud, as always yet another brilliant vid, and yet again cheap wins, time to ditch the snobbery and get a small crumb of comfort from the present financial squeeze , even if the crumb is a cheaper version Keep the reviews coming Gareth hopefully it will help some people 😍😍😍😍😍
Just watched a couple of your reviews. Think it's great you've started this channel! We've shopped all over the place for years, but done 90% of our shopping in Aldi and Lidl for probably the last ten years. They say you get what you pay for, but We've found very few products that have not been as good or sometimes even better than branded products. The power of marketing is so often just a con! Hope your blogg opens a lot of new eyes and saves people money. Well done!
Nice one 👍🏻 how about those Aldi caramel biccies, taste just like Lotus brand. Also have a look at Aldis ground coffee, about 2 quid a bag and top drawer.
I am loving your videos. Straight to the point. Or points. Really worth watching. Nice one 👍🏼 Try Aldi Rice pudding v Ambrosia. I will admit, I have not had it myself for a few years. This just reminded me. When I did, there was no comparison. The tastier and cheaper option, the tin was twice the size 😉
Great review Gaz, the Mcvities was like a Wagon Wheel ! l often wonder about coffee, ln the past the supermarket coffees were not very good, lve been getting Kenco Millicano for sometime now, but it's expensive...Coffee comparison perhaps, see if the supermarket ones have improved?☕
I love trying all the cheap instant coffees. Lately they seem to have improved a bit. They used to taste like burnt rubber and weetabix but taste a bit normal now. It must be the type of beans available at the time!
I always grab a couple of packs of the Aldi chocolate digestives gaz when I’m in Aldi! They’re spot on! Absolutely nothing wrong with them whatsoever mate and half the price! No brainer! 👍🏻
Hi Gaz,as always great video, Would always go for mcvites, You have convinced me,get some in my shopping tomorrow, My grandchildren loves Aldi chocolate buttons, Got to do it save money 💜
Good to hear try them for a change, you will probably notice a difference because your used to mc vitties but after a few packs bet you wont be able to tell.
New to your channel. Could i say thankyou for all the taste testing. Following your results and being on a very tight budget i have gone out of my comfort zone and saved myself a fortune. The family have not noticed a difference. we were able to take a day trip withthe money i had saved and had put away which was a lovely surprise. Keep safe in these still troubled times.😊
So when you think about it... Buying the McVities branded Biscuits works out like this Gaz... Fifty pence for the McVities Chocolate Digestive Biscuits themselves... And fifty pence for having the brand name McVities on the packaging... A packet that'll end up in the bin anyway... Once again mate with no difference in taste... Aldi wins hands down... Thanks for another great Verses review Gaz... All the best buddy... Cheers mate. 🍺
cheers Rick, yes I couldn't tell them apart but I dont eat them all the time. I think your taste adapts and after a few packs of the cheap ones, you wouldent go back to spending twice as much for the dearer ones.
Great comparison half the price for nearly the same thing it makes sense to buy the ALDI one's or two if your inclined to do so. It's surprising on what you can save with your comparison it's giving us an insight on what to try that's why I like this channel. These reviews are brilliant your face says it all most of the time if it's good or not and these are good. 👍
I’m right with you. I’ve been getting the TowerHill brand ones from Lidl for ages at less than half the price of McVities. I can’t tell the difference.
Another good one Gareth , keep it up mate . If you like the Cadbury taste try Aldi’s plain chocolate digestive their not strong flavoured at all and taste a bit like Cadbury’s milk chocolate Ha I’m on them now and I never liked dark chocolate.Keep it up with the videos 👍
I’d like you to do a chocolate taste test. Aldi and Lidl do some nice chocolate. I prefer Cadbury dairy milk, but does it compare? 🤔 Great vid, as always. 👍🏻
Aldi chocolate is fantastic value for money, lovely too. Much prefer most of the Aldi chocolate to Cadbury (that I previously loved since being a kid). Unfortunately Cadbury were took over by Mondelez /Kraft Heinz and in my opinion, whatever changes they made they've ruined dairy milk. Oh, and they shipped production to Poland despite assurance that it wasn't going to happen. Apparently production has moved back to Bournville in Birmingham now, however the chocolate hasn't been the same as it once was. Aldi chocolate is absolutely lovely stuff!
i thought the actual biscuit wasnt as good in the aldi one but not enough to warrant getting the big brand one , also if you crunch through the biscuit and leave the choccy until last it goes with a very nice "snap" that you dont get with mcvities but i dont buy either of them now , when i go to aldi i always get at least 4 packs of the choccy oaties they are aldis choccy hobnobs (i think) and awesome , along with them i got some packs of "racer" aldis version of snickers while they are extremely good and id buy them again it has to be said that they seem to be smaller but as i dont buy snickers in pks of 6 i can only guess on this.
We found with the Tesco version that the biscuit was inferior to McVities (powedery rather than crunchy), though non chocolate Tesco digestives are great. I find that the Aldi Racer biscuits are much sweeter than Snickers, though the Tesco version is spot on. Don't buy the Aldi chocolate oaties as the Mrs is not a hobnobs fan, but I have enjoyed the non-chocolate version.
Thanks for your review Gareth. Yeah looks like the cheaper ones for me . And probably everyone else. Aldi sales will be increasing, they wonder what’s going on . They will be employing you in the marketing department . Well done mate . See you Friday live . Cheers 🍻 🍺👍
I understand with the cost of living etc we all look to cheaper brands I do exactly that in Lidl and Aldi and they do some fantastic products especially dairy and frozen I can definitely taste the difference in branded and own label being a product of the 60s food then tasted different but there's still a distinct difference between them but we have more choice these days which is far better keep up the excellent work most of the branded suppliers need to be called out for there extortionate prices
Thanks for sharing!! I think your taste buds adapt to what your used to eating. When you change to a sililar food you can pick it up but then after a few go's you think to yourself why have I been wasting my money paying for the more expensive one.
We are limited to shopping at Tesco due to still shielding. Prefer the dark chocolate, so compared Tesco's own to McVities. Don't notice the difference between the "chocolate" coatings, other than the consistent pattern, but the Tesco digestive biscuit is inferior. It is powdery rather than crunchy. Don't know why this is the case, as Tesco's standard digestive is just as good as the McVities version!
Well I’m very surprised by this Gareth , didn’t think one could beat a Mcvitties biscuit , I’ve had supermarket brands in the past and honestly , they haven’t come close . I’ve not tried these Aldi ones but am happy to take your word for it 😂. I love me a biscuit as my waistline can testify sadly ☹️ I actually prefer the dark chocolate ones to the milk chocolate variety . Enjoy and don’t eat ‘‘em all at once 🤣🤣
its what your used to I guess, i dont eat biscuits so i have no preferences as to what my taste buds prefer but honestly there was no difference to me.
I've never found an own brand ginger biscuit that can hold a candle to a Mcvities gingernut. They all seem to be covered in a fine dust so if you're a dunker you get a load of slime at the bottom of the cup with cheapos.
@@BaldFoodieGuy Probably the same manufacturers for LIDL'S Tower Gate brand as well. Chocolate really nice. I think maybe McVities are not producing so rich a biscuit as they used to do.
Excellent stream as always Gareth Pardon the pun Gareth, but most Companies take the biscuit. Own branded biscuits are the best. I must say growing up in the 1970's Royal Scot Biscuits were my favourite They were Heaven on Earth No biscuit comes close Do you remember them🤔
Never tried Aldi version as I don't have an Aldi near me, but I bought the Lidl choc diggies yesterday and they are very good. Decent tasting biscuit and fairly thick chocolate.
Thanks, Gareth. Aldi's are great why pay more? But I liked the really cheap, Hessian type digestives you used to get in local shops like Happy Shopper. So bad they were good!
Hi Gareth been silent but watching you from the start I really enjoy your videos and you do have an addictive charm matey you really are a friendly face on UA-cam so thank you and please continue with the awesome content. In relation to this video I looked up many years ago now who Belmont biscuits were And strangely enough mcviteies are associated with them do its likly they are produced in the same factory all be it maybe on older machines and packing machines weather this is true you can never be 100% but Google seem to think so. Thanks again matey take care and I'll see you on the next one 👍
Gareth you should have had a cup of tea and dunked them. I sometimes buy Lidl dark chocolate digestive as I don't like milk ones. They are just as good as mcvities. I also buy bourbon creams, ginger nuts and malted milk from there. Also what is lovely is the shortbread in a black box and the sultana cookies. You can't go wrong with them for price and taste.
Hello I just want to say thank you for being so detailed and and helping me make the right choices and price comparison and testing just everyday basic things it's very helpful thank you very much you're amazing never forget it march appreciation and much love ❤️
Eh up Gazza hows tha doin. Great video mate cant believe the price difference. I want a choccy bicky. Noce cup of tea to wash it all down with. Beats lard sandwiches any day lol
I buy the cheaper digestives with milk chocolate here in Australia because I prefer the flavour. McVities seem a bit heavier. I don’t like chocolate so the very thin layer on the biscuits is fine.
@@BaldFoodieGuy Gareth I tried them. I find the Aldi digestives sweeter than the Mcvities digestives, so can tell the difference. However, the price of the Aldi biscuits are great for 49p they are better than the other supermarket brands.
I do buy the cheaper ones most of the time but definitely prefer the McVities. They are baked a bit crispier to bite and have a better flavor- I just LOVE them lol I think the cheaper ones always seem like they needed an extra five minutes in the oven! Perhaps that’s why they’re cheaper, saving electricity.
It’s amazing how Aldi can sell these same biscuits for that price and still profit just shows how much the big company’s profit

Don't buy the Aldi chocolate oaties as the Mrs is not a hobnobs fan, but I have enjoyed the non-chocolate version.
With the cost of living crisis right now, these kind of videos are very helpful. Thank you for highlighting these bargain buys. 👍
you're welcome 😊
This is definitely my type of video... love chocolate biscuits with a cup of tea
thanks 😊
Wow - well over 30k. That's jumped up 😉👏
They both look tasty! If anything the text on the Aldi biscuit is clearer, not that it matters much 🤣
Very nice that you cleanse your palate between tastings. 🤣
Don't forget that smelling the sample is important too. 😉
Good series.
Thanks.
Thanks for your review Gareth. Yeah looks like the cheaper ones for me . And probably everyone else. Aldi sales will be increasing, they wonder what’s going on . They will be employing you in the marketing department . Well done mate . See you Friday live . Cheers 🍻 🍺👍
see you tomorrow night
It’s so true…. When you can get virtually the same thing for half the price…..
Don't know why this is the case, as Tesco's standard digestive is just as good as the McVities version!
thanks 😊
Excellent stream as always Gareth
Pardon the pun Gareth, but most Companies take the biscuit. Own branded biscuits are the best.
I must say growing up in the 1970's Royal Scot Biscuits were my favourite
They were Heaven on Earth
No biscuit comes close
Do you remember them🤔
haha yes they do, like what you did there Lee 😉
@@BaldFoodieGuy Gareth do you remember Royal Scot Biscuits 🤔
Never tried Aldi version as I don't have an Aldi near me, but I bought the Lidl choc diggies yesterday and they are very good. Decent tasting biscuit and fairly thick chocolate.
Good to know!
More of these comparison videos please 🌸🌸🌸
More coming.
I buy these from Aldi , and there lovely. No different from mcvities 👍👍
exactly Kelly cheers
Thanks, Gareth. Aldi's are great why pay more? But I liked the really cheap, Hessian type digestives you used to get in local shops like Happy Shopper. So bad they were good!
The plain ones are lovely to Gareth x👍👍👍👍
yes they are Frances x yum 😋
Meant the digestives without choc Gareth try there wine gums best ever thing only 39 p x👍👍👍
A no brainer........lovely dunked so the choc is a bit melted. I wonder if tesco etc...do their own brands??
Hi Gareth been silent but watching you from the start I really enjoy your videos and you do have an addictive charm matey you really are a friendly face on UA-cam so thank you and please continue with the awesome content.
In relation to this video I looked up many years ago now who Belmont biscuits were And strangely enough mcviteies are associated with them do its likly they are produced in the same factory all be it maybe on older machines and packing machines weather this is true you can never be 100% but Google seem to think so.
Thanks again matey take care and I'll see you on the next one 👍
thanks 😊 glad you like. 😊
You can't beat a chocolate digestive and a brew!
Yes I should of, slipped up there.
You should have weighed each biscuit as you said one looked bigger thanks fir the review don't forget the cornish Ratler cider cheers brother
video coming tomorrow on my other channel pal.
Hello I just want to say thank you for being so detailed and and helping me make the right choices and price comparison and testing just everyday basic things it's very helpful thank you very much you're amazing never forget it march appreciation and much love ❤️
hey you're very welcome thanks 😊 x
Yes I like Asda Smart Price Reviews .
Eh up Gazza hows tha doin. Great video mate cant believe the price difference. I want a choccy bicky. Noce cup of tea to wash it all down with. Beats lard sandwiches any day lol
yes big difference and if you buy mc vitties seperate they cost even more.
I buy the cheaper digestives with milk chocolate here in Australia because I prefer the flavour. McVities seem a bit heavier. I don’t like chocolate so the very thin layer on the biscuits is fine.
Good job! Love these honest videos
thanks 😊
All BELMONT products in Aldi are excellent 👍
Thanks Gareth will try Aldi’s.
Hope you enjoy
@@BaldFoodieGuy Gareth I tried them. I find the Aldi digestives sweeter than the Mcvities digestives, so can tell the difference. However, the price of the Aldi biscuits are great for 49p they are better than the other supermarket brands.
Watched the wetabix one and the cornflakes one buddy both great vids but now we enter the serious stuff, the chocolate digestives
haha cheers pal.
I do buy the cheaper ones most of the time but definitely prefer the McVities. They are baked a bit crispier to bite and have a better flavor- I just LOVE them lol
I think the cheaper ones always seem like they needed an extra five minutes in the oven! Perhaps that’s why they’re cheaper, saving electricity.
Good to know!
