Not the most popular choice but Infinite Order is number 1 for me. So underrated and every song is a banger. 2nd would be Reborn and 3rd Hammering Process
All of them…. My introduction was Reborn … fortunately a buddy of mine hooked me up with their first three albums … I love the DJ trilogy! I like how all three albums brought something different and unique to my ear buds. I saw living sacrifice twice … but my favorite is when they played with Overcome for their Reborn Tour. One of my all time favorite shows!
The Hammering Process was my introduction to the band as well, so naturally I love that album and Conceived in Fire the best. I never hear about any deep dives into those two masterpieces.
I've been listening to them since the beginning. It's wild when you hear how many bands today will list living sacrifice as an influence on their style. Very cool
Killer video on an all-time great! It’s crazy how fast the band was evolving up through Reborn, with a distinct sound and vocal approach on each album. Inhabit is my fav, but the debut is probably the finest display of Slayer worship in history (along with Killtheslavemaster). Check out the tiny output of Sennacherib (on Tribunal) if you don’t know them- I always got Inhabit / early Deicide vibes from it and you may like.
I got to see Living Sacrifice in 1992 in Little Rock, AR (their home town) at a place called Vinos Pizza. Amazing live. I was already into the Crucified etc being from California so it was extra special to see a band like them before the Tooth & Nail thing happened in the mid 90's with "spirit filled hardcore" etc.
Total Nostalgia for me. The Inhabit cassette was my intro in 96 when I was 14 and will always be my favorite. Imo the first 3 albums are superior to all their albums that followed. Though I’ve seen them live at least 5 times from 00-02….. Ah cherished memories from days gone bye…..
Ghost Thief is my favorite so far. Though, the remixed songs from Nonexistent and the self titled by Circle Of Dust (both the older ones [Disengage] under REX, and the newer ones [Re-engage] done more recently) are some of my favorites, but obviously not necessarily a Living Sacrifice album.
I had a harder time with the vocals of some of the early Christian hardcore bands than the vocals on Non-Existant. Stuff like Strongarm and Focal Point were tough for me to get into, but Non Existant sounded like he created a totally new vocal style. Still love it
It's funny. I was with my friend Mark when we bumped into DJ at Cornerstone 91 and as I recall he told Mark he was working on this vocal style he compared to opening up a furnace and a blast of burning heat coming out (or something like that). When Nonexistemt actually came out, one of the first reviews I saw compared the vocals instead to a tongueless man cougijg up a hairball. All funny comparisons aside, Living Sacrifice were not my first ride on the thrash / death metal bus. But seconds into the first song on the first album, I knew I was in for an epic ride. A buddy of mine showed me a review in a metal magazine that said they can't believe a group of Christians has created a Reign in Blood era Slayerr clone that is actually out slayers Slayer and that he is torn because he wants to recommend the album but he just can't do it because he can't support bands expressing Christian beliefs. That made us laugh. Wish I remembered the magazine but it was his not mine and I don't know anymore.
With one album Reborn made me a fan of extreme metal. One of my best friends in high school gave me it on CD. The rest is history. Living Sacrifice will always have a special place for me. I wish they would make these early three albums available for download/stream. I feel like I’d appreciate them much more now. I definitely don’t think I was ready for them when I first heard them.
In 91-92 there was so much great music and bands coming out, especially in the Christian scene. So much so that I don’t remember what all I was listening to when I found their self titled album, and it was good, but got shuffled in the mix. I didn’t have it but a few months maybe when I found what I consider the best album of all time. Nonexistent!!! The heaviest, darkest, melodic masterpiece! To include DJ’s vocals. For me they are what makes this the best album and really enhance the mood overall. Breathy guttural pitched growls that are just perfect for the overall composition. Musically Inhabit is as good but I was disappointed with the clearer vocals and production. I don’t think that had Nonexistent been recorded in the same way that it would have stood out to have any impact whatsoever on me. Idk.
Did anyone send you the demo yet? I can't make any progress but I'm from Arkansas and have mutual friends with these dudes. I'll keep an eye out and ask around.
I have never felt any personal enjoyment in this era of Living Sacrifice. Not a big thrash fan and DJ’a vocals were always a bar I couldn’t clear on the second and third album. But, for the Christian metal genre at the time, LS was far ahead of their “peers” in terms of heaviness and brutality.
You need to check out Monotheist! They're a Christian Technical/Progressive Death Metal band, heavy with some beautiful solos and leads: I recommend the Genesis of Perdition album (link to that here: ua-cam.com/video/LDLgQylpoW8/v-deo.html), they're a lot like Extol, and a little like Opeth I think.
I'm pretty sure I saw these guys with Demon Hunter and some newer band like Oh Sleeper or Plea for Purging. My friends wanted the old school and I was entranced by the newer stuff haha
I guess I need to get the 2022 version of Nonexistent then. I always thought it was a great record minus DJ's vocals and the less than ideal production. Can't wait until you cover Tourniquet in the trilogy series.
What's your favorite Living Sacrifice album and why?
It will always be Conceived in Fire.
But Death Machine will always be my favorite song.
Bruce is an animal
Bruce is definitely a beast on Conceived. He sounds like actually mad most of the time ha ha.

Nonexistent. Inhabit and Conceived in fire comes at a close 2nd and 3rd, respectively

ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT!!!💕🙏👊

Can't wait for the video on the next three albums. Some of my favorite music of all time.
first cd I got of Living Sacrifice was In Memoriam so I found out about their first 3 albums pretty fast.
man I didn't know about the 2022 version of Nonexistent thanks!
@@mykeryu it's a winner!
I'm embarrassed to say, I'm 42 and I've never explored this band! Thank you!
They are so good. They gave more even better records after these three as well.
Total Nostalgia for me.

Giving Finn McKenty a run for his money here! Tuned in at the Hammering Process. Keep doing your historical stuff man!
Thank you! Finn is the best there is though ha ha.
Yeah although it's not my intent to exclusively cover Christian metal on the channel, it just happens to be the thing I know the most about ha ha.

I was at that 1994 show it was awesome.

Yeah I definitely wasn't ready when I heard those first 3
Great video. These first 3 aren't really my style... LOVE everything after and Reborn is in my top 10 albums of all time!
I got to see Living Sacrifice with Demon Hunter in 2023. Man did those guys know how to command a stage
I am not Christian anymore but still listen to Living Sacrifice and Zao. The 90s had many good Christian bands
Zao keeps getting better and better in my opinion.
Why have you decided to no longer be a Christian anymore?
All time favorite band
they really are THE BAND in this scene.
@@dft9000 and I do have their "not yielding to ungodly" cassette!
@@Rob-io3dc one of these days I'll find one.

No nobody has sent me one, but I know some of the guys in the band pretty well so eventually I think somebody will find one.

Nothing wrong with being called a "slayer clone" in my opinion. Being compared to some of the best
Absolutely

The new stuff is great too. I love all of it.
do Tourniquet next... Gary Lenaire.
Won't be next but will be soon.

I still find new things when I listen to those first 3 Tourniquet albums

What a great band! Really enjoyed this 👍👍
One of the absolute best
