I love this song and the Stones. This song is a beautiful ballad. Mick's voice is incredible. This song reminds me of when me and my 1st love broke up. It hurt and I was literally out of tears 😢, there were no more left to cry literally 😢.

I recently picked up this album on cassette. I'm turning 30 this year, so this album came out when I was about a year old. This song caught my attention when I got the tape, but now it hits home even more as my close friend passed away to Cancer just last month, and it makes me so teary thinking about her. She saved my life when I was at the lowest point, and now she's gone. This song makes me teary. Love the Rolling Stones ❤

my closest friend was recently diagnosed with terminal brain cancer, weve been close friends for 35 years since we were 15 in high school, its beyond tragic, she just celebrated her 50th B-day and was diagnosed just a few months later, we used to love this song, i would play it for her on guitar, but now the lyrics have taken on a whole new deeper meaning for me, stay strong my friend, youre not the only one to lose some one you care for deeply, sadly its just a part of life, it breaks your heart but you need to live on for them, im sorry for your loss, peace and love from BOSTON

Free Speech: Dear Rolling Stones: although I like his music too, Elton John May have Copied your melody/song when he put his song called “I need love” around the year 2000: scold me if I’m wrong! Can I get a cut of any suit if I’m right?

    • @paulmoneill

I think you mean I Want Love but yeah now you say it there is a slight resemblance. If Allen Klein owned this one he might have sued but I think Mick and Keith own this song 100%. I think they're easy going over that sort of thing these days.

funny how when youre young the deeper meanings of lyrics go over your head, but when you get older they take on a whole new meaning to you, my closest friend of 35 years was recently diagnosed with terminal cancer, she just turned 50, we used to love this song, after her diagnosis i literally cried off and on for days, but now as the song says im out of tears and the reality of the situation has set in, now this song has taken on a whole new meaning to me, i will miss her terribly

    I can't feel, feel a thing
    I can't shout, I can't scream
Breathe it out, breathe it in
    All this love from within
I won't cry when you say goodbye
    I'm out of tears
I won't die when you wave goodbye
I'm out of tears, out of tears
    I won't drink, I won't eat
    I can't hear, I won't speak
Let it out, let it in
    All this pain from within
And I just can't pour my heart out
    To another living thing
    I'm a whisper, I'm a shadow
But I'm standing up to sing
But I won't cry when you say goodbye
I'm out of tears (out of tears)
I won't die when you wave goodbye
I'm out of tears, yes I am
I won't cry, I swear my eyes are dry
I'm out of tears, yeah (out of tears)
I won't cry, I'm going to tell you why
I'm out of tears, out of tears
    Out of tears
    Let it out from within
Some you lose, some you win
I can drift, I can dream
'Til I float off your screen
And I just can't pour my heart out
    To another living thing
    I'm a whisper, I'm a shadow
But I'm standing up to sing
I won't cry when you say goodbye
I'm out of tears (out of tears)
I won't die when you wave goodbye
I'm out of tears, out of tears
I won't cry, I swear my eyes are dry
I'm out of tears (out of tears)
I won't cry, I'm going to tell you why
I'm out of tears, out of tears
    Out of tears

I absolutely adore this song. Voodoo Lounge was the first CD my parents ever gave me. I was 8. I fell in love with the music and the Stones. Out of Tears would be the song that helped me through my first heartbreak. The Rolling Stones have touched my life in ways no one will ever understand. I learned about life from their music. My parents now that I am nearing 30 often ask me why the love for the Stones. And I dont have a simple answer I can give them. It's so much more than words can express.

I understand totally about not being able to explain the pull and sway this band can have on people. I'm now 70 years old and still love their music as much as I did in the 60s when they first hit the charts. When I'm asked that same question I just shrug and say, "no other band scratches my itch like the Stones." From Delta and Chicago blues, to dirty rock n roll, and soulful ballads like this one, no one tops the Stones in my opinion. Rocks off boys!

To me this is their finest song ever, it's so beautiful it brings tears to my eyes. I've always thought that Nicky Hopkins played that mesmerizing piano part, but it's Chuck Leavell. This is musicianship at its highest level. When you can create a song like this, out of nothing, you are premier league.

i love that song. i was given a garbage bag full of CD's by some guy splitting town when i worked graveyard at a quickie mart. i was already a life long Stones fan but the It's Only Rock and Roll album never came to me until then. and i tell ya, the song you mentioned and If You Really Want to Be My Friend floored me.
