As if a 1961 'Bubble Top Impala' is not iconic enough!! It was ordered and raced by 1 of the 4 most iconic and revered American racers to have the iconic Quad-Victory of, LeMans, Indy, Formula 1 Champion and NASCAR under his belt, makes this a truly treasured racer...... just glad it's back 'Home @ Goodwood' by someone to really understand and appreciate what he's got!!! CHEERS!!!
Fantastic story. Kudos to Ed for rescuing it.
Craig Yirush I’m sure many others would have done the same. I was just lucky to come across it!
Dan was a great ambassador for the sport, thanks for this series on a forgotten car by most !
Wow!! Much Thanks for posting (and "doing").
Awesome little slice of racing history.
Got some dan gurney wheels out back, can’t bring myself to get rid of them, light as hell!
My Dad started at fisher body in 1965,I was born in 61later in life I built a super expensive 62impala as my favorite my first chevy was a 64 impala ss bring s back some memories
This is amazing
Amazing story! Thank you for posting.
Awesome to see that it is in the very capable hands of JRT!! If their Cortina's are anything to go by this Impala shall be a show stopper!!
Great story. I can imagine Dan looking back and still being irritated about the wheel.
Love this guy...
Great story!
I love these impala iv been blessed with one which has a 62 409 duel quads factory 4 speed under the hood
Very good information about automotive racing history I'm sad the wheel broke too the 409 was doing well.
George Wallace Wall Dan was gutted as well! I imagine he would have been hard to beat if it wasn’t for that.
... The great Dan Gurney .............
it's super weird seeing Don Steves La Habra on the license plate frame...it's a car dealership here in Southern California I've driven by about 10,000 times
me too
Don Steves Chevrolet came to such a sad end.
Sad end? What happened? John Force still had Don Steves on his NHRA Funny cars for a couple years after switching to Mustangs. Great video on this historic 409.
This is a great video on possibly the most historic 409. In 2010 Don Steves Chevrolet lost it's Chevy franchise, and shortly after, Tom, the founder's son, took his own life.
Nice car. LHD again? Looks exactly like the 61 SS 409 Impala that was restored here in the UK by Alan Carrington Classic Cars in 2006.🤔
Saw it at Goodwood and didn't know it was "that car"! It droove around quite a bit, but the Goodwood folks are so low-key I don't think it was mentioned over the PA once...
Can't wait to see it attack the drive or get to let loose on the road course.
GreenJeep1998 I’m afraid you’ll have to wait for episode three for that! I can tell you it is AMAZING. And noisy. Very, very noisy.
@@edfoster1447 Can't wait Ed, I'm sure it was Very noisy, big inch V8's rarely aren't.
Like The Beach Boys sang, “She’s real fine my 409l”!!
