I have known that Jeff Beck was a guitar player since I was a teenager in the 70s. But since I'm not a musician, I didn't follow his career. He was brought to my attention through a guitarist friend about 7 years ago. After seeing the "Moon River" video, I delved deeper and quickly became utterly enchanted with his talent - his ability to bring me to tears with the emotion he plays on his guitar. I have never heard anyone play the guitar the way he does. It's not his technical ability that separates him - it's the feeling he conveys through the instrument that is so incredibly moving. I'm so sorry that I discovered him just several years ago. I'm sorry that I never saw him perform live. But I am grateful for the treasure trove of music he made and has left for us all to enjoy forever. As I'm watching all these videos of his performances, unlike a lot of musicians - especially rock guitarists - Jeff's facial expressions show his love for the music and his respect for the other performers he is playing with. Labeling him as a rock guitarist seems unfair. I have seen videos of him performing just about every single genre of music there is - and doing it all with absolute joy and dedication to his craft. Jeff Beck is truly an anomaly - unique from all others. I hope his legacy lives on to inspire us all...

You could not have said it better. I might have seen him in a short appearance in one of those all day concerts in the 70’s. And what annoys me the most is the fact that he played not far from where I live but I still wasn’t aware of his uniqueness.

      And now in 2024, I am 67.(!)
Mind-blowing. At 79 he played his last two tours playing at top form!
The same year as this Jeff toured wit Eric Clapton. If you missed that. Jeff played a set. Then Eric, then they played a shorter set together. Amazing 🎆 🎇
      UA-cam has some show(s).
I miss him. It was such a shock. He looked so good. Playing beautifully. Then 2 months after the American tour. Gone.
He blessed us for 50+ years though!

He is totally unique. All his influences growing up. Blues, Rock-a-Billy, jazz, rock. Then discarding the pick all together and using his thumb and fingers to play. It gave him his own sound. Eric Clapton said it sounds like he pulls the notes out of the guitar 🎸

'The best' is subjective, but no one can do what Jeff did, and if they can i've not seen it, people zoom in to watch his hands but still don't have a clue, he lightly strums the strings with the soft bad of his thumb while holding the whammy bar in his palm and adjusting the volume and tone up and down with his little finger, watch him again and he does it differently.

He was among those five even after over 50 years of listening to him. A sad day for music and guitar fans. We were founded on great guitar from any genre. And whether we're in the mood for rock, jazz, blues or rockabilly we can have us some Jeff Beck. He created more sounds from an electric guitar than anybody who ever picked one up. This was a great performance as always. Subdued and respectful but incredible at the same time. One of the greatest. Maybe the.

This has nothing to do with shredding or the rock star world. The emotion emanating from the stage is like an ocean wave washing over you. You can have technical dexterity but if there is no feeling then it is like listening to someone practice scales. Such a beautiful song with the 3 lead instruments ...and Jeff's solo is brilliant but his interplay in support of the music and the other musicians is off the charts. Just no ego as he sits and listens soaking up the music at the beginning and the little boy smile occasionally. He wanders on, plugs in his guitar with little fanfare to a small amp, bares his soul then meanders back into the shadows like a ghost. Perfect!!! He has left planet earth but he has left us with music gems like this. Thank you. Thank you to Ms. Corr for presenting Jeff like this and her fine musicianship.

Praising Jeff is _not_ ignoring the other musicians, but the fact that the guy who played the blistering guitar solo on The Shapes Of Things with The Yardbirds in 1966 is accompanying a violinist & a piper on a heart-rendingly sweet folk melody in 2011 -- well, that's pretty noteworthy (to say the least). And more people -- I'd venture to say _many_ more -- got here for Jeff Beck (I'd never even _heard_ of Sharon Corr myself, and have been mining the unbelievably vast & rich lodes of Jeff Beck's work), so it's not _all_ that shocking that there's lots of praise for him here.

Every time you think you are starting to to know something about making music with a guitar... as always, here comes Jeff Beck... back to remind you that you're just a trifler, after all. He's the best, for simple reasons: love of music and his instrument, dedication, and hard work.

    • @kenhoward3512
      @kenhoward3512 3 роки тому +3

His touring rhythm guitarist, at one point, Carmen Vandenberg, said, "He plays guitar all the time, like 8 hours a day. He plays while making breakfast." That is the kind of dedication it takes to rise to the very top (no matter what your skill is). Well, that, and a heavy dose of creativity, and a natural ability to get along with others doesn't hurt.

Interesting. Most of the greatest guitar players in the world say Beck is unsurpassed. He's the guitarist that is the hero of all, guitar players. The best tone and technique of any guitarist since the mid 1960s.
Of course, everyone is entitled to their own personal taste in things. There are people who prefer to eat dog caca, rather than a gourmet meal in a great restaurant. You seem to be the former.

Your taste is poor then, and you obviously don't play guitar if you seriously think he's one of the best guitarists since the 60s.

I’ve been playing guitar for about 56 years. Played my first pro gig in 1968. Packed it in about 7 years ago.
Beck is considered, by just about every great guitarist on the planet, as one of their guitar heroes. That includes players from the sixties like Clapton, Page, Blackmore, McLaugchlin, Richards, and Gallagher through players in the 70s to 90s like Marr, May, Iha, Prince, Vai, DiMeola, Slash, Cobain, Knopfler, and Greenwood to current greats.
Feel free to name any guitarist since the 1060s who wasn’t influenced by Beck. Name a single great guitarist alive today who would have him in their top three all-time.
I get that your tastes aren’t developed enough to appreciate what he does. You probably don’t know enough about music, guitaring, And musical or guitar history, in order to realize how ridiculous your comment is… but trust me… you’re either a troll or an imbecile.
