About the confederate flag thing, back then, a lot of people didn't really know what the confederate flag meant. Many people just saw the flag as a sign of rebellion and thought it looked cool. So I don't think Dimebag is a racist.
And when Dimebag said the N-word, he wasn't using it in an intentionally racist way. He probably just said it on accident.
Phil isn't a racist either. Someone in the crowd CALLED him a racist, so when he said "white power" and did the salute, he was being sarcastic. That's the thing a lot of people don't know.

I still remember download 2007, someone brought this huge Confederate flag and was waving it. From what i remember, the video of phil saluting and saying white power was taken out of context (still not a good thing) but people kept calling him a racist and he got fed up and just went with it to the people in the crowd saying he was. Not an excuse for a bad thing but i dont think he ever was truly a racist.

We called him to ask about the interaction he had with Anselmo before Phil went onstage: “Yeah, Phil kissed me,” Pinnick laughs. “I hadn’t seen him since Dime was killed, but I walked backstage and he got up, hugged me as hard as he could and whispered in my ear, ‘You are the greatest human being I’ve ever known.’ That’s just how he is. He’s over the top about everything. I love that guy.”
Not that Pinnick condones Anselmo’s actions onstage that night. “He shouldn’t have done it. I can’t stick up for what he said. I think he was trying to be funny and controversial, but he doesn’t have a racist bone in his body. Confederate flag wasnt seen as something racist (even tho the motives for the confederate army to fight were), anyone that grew up on the south flew it and thats what it meant. Dime died while it was still somewhat okay, Vinnie during his HellYeah years swapped the confederate flag for a Texas one and flew it high and proud.

They have a past of being very vocal about not being racist. Even the people defending Phil dont have a clue when this all started, why, and how it came back 20 years later.

@Johnny I’m actually surprised you didn’t bring up Phils ‘white pride speeches’ AND that members of Pantera EXCEPT Phil collaborated with country artist David Allen Coe who become infamous for using slurs in his music. The project was called Rebel Meets Rebel. You should look into that.

1. (Most people) use the confederate flag as a symbol of rebellion against the United States because how woke it is and a rebellion against the government.
2. This was a time and era (before gen z) when people didn’t care what you said or what you believe and simply just ignored it but again people are more sensitive than snowflake nowadays and simply don’t know how to NOT GIVE A REACTION.
3. The Dixie rebel is a legendary guitar and you saying it is cringe is cringe within itself without you realizing it.
4. I listen to both grindcore and NSBM which are on the totally different side of the political spectrum but why can’t you ignore the politics and the message and listen to the music, it that impossible or something?
