    I'm also 5'7". I had big dreams of dunking all the way through junior high and high school. I worked on my vertical a lot, and by my Junior year I had the best vertical on the team. On a good day I could maybe dunk a tennis ball. Watching this really makes me wish I would have put the extra effort and made the dream a reality. I'm 27 now and a far cry from what I was then. For any kids out there watching this, give it your all and don't give up. Don't look back on these days and wished you'd worked harder. They are over in a flash.

    I was 5'10" in high school and I'll never forget the first time I went up with both hands and hung on the rim. I was surprised cause the closest I ever got was barely tapping the rim. Even my friend had a shocked look on his face. That was my junior year. I peaked at age 19. I was 6'0", had a 40 inch vertical. Threw down some hard dunks and that was enough for me. Never got close ever again. Wish there were readily available camera phones back in the 90s.

      BTW, the way I built my leg and calf strength, I would love running up stadium stairs at my high school. Would love the burn of over working them. Jumping was so effortless after. But you have to be light weight. If u are over weight u will pull your calf muscle.

    take it from an old dude. I used to triple jump and long jump in high school on asphalt runways and I could dunk at 5'9", you need strength and technique. I like how you went at it and got yourself to your goal but from an old dude to a youngster ease up on the dunking on concrete, that is mostly what we had back in my day, but you can preserve your knees by mostly dunking inside the gym on wood floors it will prevent you from having to get a knee reconstructed like I did. Keep ballin'

    This is impressive, but what is even more impressive is that he dunked as a two foot jumper and a one foot jumper. Not many athletes have that type of agility. Most are either a one foot jumper (David Thompson) or a two foot jumper (Dominique Wilkins.) Michael Jordan, of course, is an exception, able to leap equally well off two feet or one foot, so can this young man.

    • @l2leader156

      @rell6837 5 років тому +9

      tighebrother I agree with you, but I don’t think he was saying that to make himself feel better, just saying it to state a probability. However, it doesn’t really meatier if he grew an inch, because that gap between the tips of his fingers and the top of the rim are definitely more than an inch on his last dunk

    I remember training like this back in 2001 at the 24 Fitness Center in Dallas. Taught myself how to dribble with both hands full speed up & down the court. Next faze, how to grip the basketball with one hand. Next; jump shooting. Releasing the ball at the top of my jump. I then realized, the higher I jumped, the lower the basket became. Started knocking down 3's with ease. Finally I started trying to lay the ball in the basket with the back of my hand touching the top of the rim. Got it! That lead to me being able to grab the rim😀. I started dunking with a tennis ball, then move to a females basketball. I was nearly there (dunking with a official size NBA ball) until I cracked my ankle playing on a outside basketball court in my old neighborhood. I went up for a put back dunk and came down in the concrete cut-out that the goal post was positioned in. That set me back 6 months. Glad you met your goal👍

    I've seen it asked "How he trained" and I wanted to point out, IF you are dedicated enough and you try hard enough and never quit. Almost anything is possible.
    I might be a bit taller then him at 6'3" and at this moment, I doubt I could touch the rim. But when I was playing basketball every day and actually using the muscles needed to do it. I could dunk. I played every day for almost 8 years. At least 2-4 hours a day. When I first started, I could barely touch the net. Within 6 months I was grabbing the rim. It is all about DOING IT!!
    Long story short;
    If you want to dunk. Continuously practice jumping.
    If you want to hit a base ball. Continuously practice hitting.
    If you want to throw touchdowns. Continuously practice throwing a football.
    If you want to be the best guitarist. Continuously practice playing the guitar.
    ETC. ETC. ETC.
    As the saying goes "Practice" makes perfect. You take ANY professional athlete and ask them how they are so great at what they do and every one of them will tell you they put in the time. PRACTICING!!
    Good Luck to all who have a dream and the determination to achieve it.

    Hey man, thanks for the inspiration. Im 5.11-6ft and im 14. As a kid i used to be really athletic...but around the time i was 10 sadly i was consumed by stupid shit like video games... and it really fucked me up physically. I probably couldnt even do 20 laps on the school pacer test, let alone 10 pushups for awhile. Gotta say i was really ashamed of myself, felt pretty damn pathetic. But later in the year when i was 13 i started playing basketball, it was the first sport i found which i truly enjoyed. Since then i have really been working hard to become athletic once again, currently i would say i went from being in extremely poor health to a mid-tier athlete. Alot of people say that i have the persistence and potential to become something big. But its like im still no-where near satisfied, i had trouble with my shot,even layups. But i kept practicing and they became better, i mean currently they arent "good" but they are better than nothing (not many indoor courts and its been freezing outside every day for the past four months). But im keeping at it, and it seems like at this time my skills are improving GREATLY every single day (yes i play in the freezing cold lol). My running has become excellent (i have asthma so my breathing isnt quiet there yet!), as well as the strength of my upper body. Well... excluding my arms im currently working almost every other day to improve them. (XD those 3 reps of 40 pushups in the one footed training program might be pretty hard). Currently i cant touch rim, im maybe about....7 inches away. But i hope to change that with this program! lls sorry for talking so long, its just been a REALLY rough time for me. Being constantly criticized, or laughed at. There were a few times where out of nowhere, from being criticized my skills (i think i was angry) suddenly increased TREMENDOUSLY everything increased... even my jump. But it was only temporary, except seing myself doing that good (knowing i can be that amazing, at times like that people often compare me to Larry Bird lol) really pushed me forward and inspired me to keep going, as well as my love for the game. My point is you have to be extremely determined, willing, and persistent if you really want to get better. And i feel like i can relate to this. Anyway... thanks for your help! Once i get my basics up a little bit more im definitely going to start working on this training program! I appreciate any tips you veterans can give me. Keep grindin bro

      2zelda1trh hey man dont kick yourself im 5-11 and havent grown in 8 years (im 19 now) i dunked the ball for the first time when i just turned 13, in an official rim. i understand you are working hard a lot and i respect it a lot!!! i hope you keep doing so! i just want to tell you something i recognized the second my last game in high school finished and where i realized the basketball career was over or you got to do something new. and no one knows how it feels until you are at the last second of the last game youll play with an official team for a school regardless of you going on to college. what im getting to is that you shouldnt place blame on videogames or anything because at the end of the day its you, and how much you want it. i was there when FaZe first started as a call of duty clan and tried out made the cut then my house was robbed the next day so i played videogames but that didnt stop me from school or basketball or life. i graduated summa cum laude of my high school ranked 47 in the state of Florida in basketball and i still play videogames. im not lazy either i have fixed cars, drift cars, learned the piano, french and now learning spanish and have done a lot of things. but the real thing i want to say is dont let the thought of something take over just be you and everyday work hard to be 1 percent better. because in 100 days guess how much better youll be? this video is great to show progress but it doesnt show the actual work behind it. from my point of view of playing basketball and seeing many ballers come and go id say if you want to get hire work on your abs and legs. and like Han said in tokyo drift you learn by doing it. so even if you cant dunk everytime you lay up the ball jump as high as you can and give that backboard a good slap. work on your foot work as well. besides that do squats but dont stress the weights too much, its about the workout more then the muscle gain. its hard work but worth it. and why i chose not to play for a college is because i honestly dont feel like doing the day to day routine anymore and actually want a degree because not to many in our family have one. im learning computer science hopefully i can learn to dunk in that field one day. and just being honest hope you read this with real sincerity to the message this wasnt me boasting about my self, i just want to help you or anyone that reads this out. stay positive and grind. another thing if you get injured, just stay off. ive pulled my groin and fracture acl and i wish i had this advice(took the advice). just stay off until it is healed and get it strong again.

      Daniel DX yes dude if you are 9'11 you will probably be dead cause the tallest man in the world was 8'2 something and he die on the age of 22 because of blood pressure from early gravity

      Bryan Betancourt I dont understand why people are so stupid to really think im 9'11 its fucking sarcasm and a joke because 9/11 you know.. and 9'11 is same as 10 foot..

    Amazing stuff. I'm 5'7" and never had a prayer of dunking. A HS buddy of mine was 5"9" range and was the state high jump champ. He had small hands and the only dunk he could do consistently was to go with two hands but off a run, so no "legal" dunks. He did jam a few offensive rebounds in practice (was during the dunk ban age, mid 1970's. So none in competition).

    Good job dude. I´m 6´3" and barely could dunk it when I played basketball about 10 years ago, being in my best shape. I´m sure I can´t do it anymore with the extra weight I have now and a f*cked up right knee.

      It gets worse, bro. I'm 40 and can barely get the rim anymore. A torn meniscus makes it even worse LOL
