- Today we’ll take a look at my dunk progress from not even being able to touch the rim, all the way to my first between the legs dunk. This video took almost 2 months to make, but I’m very happy with how it turned out!

im 14 and 5'9 and i grabbed rim for the first time on 10 ft about 3 weeks ago. ever since then ive been trying to get my bounce up and have gotten pretty consistant. ive kind of hit a stop in my progress but watching this definitely boosted my motivation and i will and i mean WILL dunk by july. great looks man

Windmill tutorial 🙏🙏🙏 Your growth was insane with windmills and I love how consistent you are now, I touch about 11'2 as a 6'0 dunker, and I wanna get my first windmill!!! Tryna get like u
If you are breaking 11ft, could probably get a windmill with enough practice. At 6ft I got very close to touching 11ft when I was still healthy and in my prime but for some reason, I got nowhere close to getting a windmill but also never had practice on low rims

Windmills aren’t hard, just practice throwing the ball fast in a circle using your off arm
I moved from Ireland to florida in the 90s when i was 14 and fell in love with basketball. By the time i was 16 i made my freshman highschool team. I could never jump high off two feet but like you just kept dunking on smaller goals and when i was 19 i could dunk 10'5 my elbow was over the rim. Theres no better feeling than dunking in a game and dunking on someone. Great vid bro.

Amazing job, what are the exercises you did to reach such vertical?
i started training my vertical at september, so about 0.5 years now, i made a progress from touching the middle of the net to touching the 10 ft rim, i now do a tennis ball dunks at a lower rims, like 9 ft 7, being able to dunk at young age is cool, imagine doing poster dunks at 13 lol

used to be able to hold on to 10 foot w/ both hands off one step but broke the same ankle twice in 2020-21 and tweaked the other 22, fast forward to 2024 i can only touch rim :/, ima lock in for this vid and get my first dunk, y’all wish me luck for me and ankles
What was ur vert at the time you hit your first dunk? I got my vert to about 35 inches (touching 10’5) at 5’10 not too long ago and I was curious if that was enough
What other vert exercises did you do other than low rim dunking?
Wow this was a really good watch. Like you said, dunking from a young age is invaluable. I didn’t have that love for basketball when I was still growing, but I was always jumping around on the grass (and more importantly trampolines) from a really young age. I honestly can attribute my jumping ability to my tendons, cause my lifts really aren’t all that impressive yet. Keep up the great work, you’re gonna be an awesome pro dunker in the future.

A lot of lifting. Not much plyos besides dunking

What exercises are u using to work on your vertical ?
show me what workouts you did that increased your vertical the ones that actually increase it cus im the same age as you but im 6'5/6'6 i should be ddoin allat but im over her nearly dunking but not yet and it will help me with my defense because i should be blockin alot of peoples shots unless they hit fades but i should cook them on that too but i can cus my 23 inch vertical about i need 24 to dunk a regular dunk but if i get my vert up to like 35 or even just 30 id be aii for now maybe not the highest i can go but that will be fine very fine my goal is to touch the top of the square on the backboard but anyway if i get my vert up it will increase my hang too helping me with my fadeaways to start doin them like mj were he would jump and the other guy would go down before him ngl i should be dunkin cus i can grab the rim were at the most my hand goes above the rim up to the middle of my palm but i cant dunk yet

wow, im 5'9 (15y/o) and can touch rim but not quite dunk, dunking on low rims is a method i havent heard much of. I'll give it a try! 🔥
I’m hoping you’ve made progress. If not, look up some plyometrics exercises that suit you, then try lowering the rim to the height where you’re most consistent. Master that height, then raise it an inch. It’s just like weightlifting; use progressive overload to your advantage. You will go from 8ft to 10ft in almost no time, as long as you put in the work. Don’t overdo plyometrics, as you will put a lot of undue stress on your muscles. 2-3 intense sessions per week is perfectly fine and your bounce will increase tremendously. Good luck homie!
@@UniqueHandles Thanks for the advice! I'll definitely look more into plyometrics, I've done them before but might've went overkill on them (it would explain why my knees were KILLING me for like 2 weeks lol). However, practicing dunks on the rim in my driveway definitely helped. I can now do 360s, windmills, and lots more (keep in mind the rim is 9ft). But here's the problem: the hoop i practice dunking on has a MAX height of 9ft since it is rather old. So the plan right now is to try plyometrics and practice at my local park (always open to suggestions). Thanks for the tips and encouragement!

im 5'9 14 and got really close to dunking but over christmas i got really sick and lost like 15 pounds and came back and i couldnt jump and now its been a little over a month since i was really back into it and i can barely grab rim on good days any advice for gaining the muscle in my legs back?
You could try eating more and going to the gym more just target your bottom body if you got no access to the gym do Squats with a bag with stuff on it, work on your aproach jump without jumping
I just turned 14 and I am 5'6 and my highest ever touch was 9'6 idk if thats good considering you were dunking at 14 but how much longer do you think I have before touching and eventually dunking on 10

they definitely do, but it’s worth it. plus they’ll adapt overtime

It definitely helps! If you’re jumping/dunking on low rims WITH GOOD FORM and INTENSITY, plus incorporating some type of strength training you’re setting yourself up for success!
