- My Polychromos are back out and ready for a beautiful adult coloring book by Hanna Karlzon! I can’t believe I didn’t buy one of Hanna’s coloring books sooner. And since filming this video, I’ve bought 4 more.
So if you’re like me and haven’t already discovered Hanna Karlzon’s amazing coloring books, today is your day! I’m coloring a page from her first adult coloring book, “Daydreams” (originally published in Sweden as "Dagdrömmar") as my contribution to #supporthannakarlzon while she faces the difficult health challenges mentioned in my video.

Here in Brazil as well. And since her books are imported from the Netherlands her books are really, really expensive. But very, very popular.
I own several of Hanna Karlzon's books, including Daydreams and her newest ones Tales from the Forest Kingdom and Tales from the witches cottage (Swedish version available at Book Depository). She's definitely well known and is one of the top artists in the coloring book community. There has been several groups who got together for color-alongs to honor her exquisite work. This has been going on for several months. I'm glad you are acknowledging her on your channel too👍.
Hanna’s illustrations are amazing! Her hardcover books have the most amazing paper and each has with fully unique pictures or some of her past works are included - which is wonderful for giving additional opportunities to retry using different media or color schemes. I own one or more copies of each of her books and have preordered her newest book which is scheduled for release in October. Finding her books in alternate languages is a treasure hunt I enjoy participating in because of the small differences in the covers and papers inside. I really agree that the oil based pencils - Polychromos and Brutfunner pastels . While I own Luminance pencils - they still intimidate me a bit - I think knowing that they are so expensive and it’s one of my favorite gifts from dear hubby - as are the Polychromos but I’ve finally relaxed a bit to use them.
I guess I can understand why Johanna Basford leads the popularity contest as she basically helped to kick the adult coloring book hobby into high gear. I enjoy Kerby Rosanes’ books are wonderfully intricate and can be a huge challenge and I enjoy just looking at his work. But, Hanna’s books allow plenty of room to add your own interpretation especially in the backgrounds. There is usually plenty of open space to be as creative as you wish - or just to work on the primary images if working on backgrounds aren’t your thing.
And I hope you will add Hannah to your list of favorite illustrators - and add your best wishes / prayers that she is able to beat her health issues.
Underrated!? I would say Hanna is one of the most popular!
It maybe depends on what country you are from. I hadn't heard of her (UK) and maybe she isn't as popular in Austrailia either.
The stats I’ve found are all from Amazon.com and Google- which is worldwide.
I had other stats too that I didn’t include in the video, all which should have been much higher for the quality of her books and how much everyone loves her art.
Not seeing her books in the top 100 in almost any subcategory of coloring is crazy.
I had seen her plenty of times before, so I was surprised at how underrated she was too.
I’ve been a Hannah karlzon fan for years. I have all of her books and I think I love them so much not only because her art style appeals to me, but the paper in the books is thick enough to take watercolour paint. I sincerely hope all of our good wishes reach her and gives her the strength she needs. 🤗🇬🇧
I bought about six books of hers when I heard about her struggle. I’ve looked at her books many times and felt intimidated. I’m a newbie at coloring. But, I bought her books to give her support. When I received the books and finally see and feel the pages in person, I felt inspired! She is under rated! Her illustrations and the books themselves are so beautiful. I am looking forward to finally having time to sit and color a page in one of these books… I just have to decide on which one… 🙂
Just bought my first Hannah Karlzon book, right BEFORE I watched this….and it was Daydreams, it will be here Sunday, so very excited! I am a huge Kerby fan, and Johanna and now I will see about Hannah, I just started coloring in 2022, so just finding good artist to color! My mother also passed from cancer, Pancreatic, in 2007. Cancer sucks….

I had been eyeing off a few of her books and I now have brought them all. I too lost my mum to cancer and colouring was one of her favourite pastimes while receiving treatment. I pray Hanna wins her battle.

I love her and here in Sweden you can find her books in our grocery stores, where I first saw them. My favorites are the Witch’s cottage and forest kingdom. I just love how much of a story there is in each of her pages.
Greetings from south of Sweden! My daughter gave me my first adult coloring book in 2015-2016 and it was Hanna Karlzon´s Daydream. I have always loved to color so when she and her friend introduced me to adult coloring I went bananas :D I love Hanna´s illustrations and I am confident that Hanna will beat the brain tumor
Hanna's books are so high quality, I was so afraid to ruin a page but I absolutely should have just done it! I have only two of her books, Magical Dawn and Seasons, and even when you 'mess up' a page, it still looks great because of her style! Everyone should own at least one of her books!
As a swede myself, she was the first colouringbook i ever got. This one exactly. Theres a book called guldkorn which kinda is like her bigest hits + a few new ones i you wanna get a feel of her as an artist thats always a good one. If i remember right my faves is seasons and summernights. And out of the newer books i actually like both the witches cottage (a lil more) and forestkingdom. Not so keen on the first one in that series but i have it and i will pick up the new one that drops here very soon. Thank you for giving her some love ❤

Good morning Sarah, I’m a 64 year nana, I started colouring about 11 years ago, the only artist whose books I have are Hanna Karlzon. I also like polychromos pencils they are my go to favourite, then Pablo then luminance. My 10 and 8 year grandchildren are also into colouring and have some of her books too. I live in New Zealand so it’s always a long wait to get them but boy are they worth it. The kids and I colour most days as we all live together and it’s great to see them learning about blending etc. thankyou for your video it’s great to see you acknowledge Hanna.
I'm so happy you've shown her work here, Hanna Karlzon is an amazing artist and I would not have thought of her as underrated at all. I've seen her coloring pages on pinterest ever since I started coloring years ago and there have always been soooo many finished pages out there from a lot of different artists. Her books are some of my favorites because they allow you to be so creative with each image. And her whimsical style is awesome!
I just came across your videos recently they cheer me up a lot! I immediately broke down into tears after hearing her story. That’s what I’m going through too. I was recently diagnosed and I lost all sense of purpose. I recently started taking up art again and hearing her story made me want to work harder and pursue art from a whole different point of view! I went and followed her. She’s amazing for what she’s doing epilepsy makes you weak and feeling helpless but she didn’t give up she’s amazing!

I have a few of Hanna’s books and I’m an addict. Best paper quality for pencils and watercolours. A great, inspiring artist.

After my stroke, then a month later a heart attack, I am having trouble getting back into colouring as there is so much to do with new people owning the bldg and etc. Now the arthritis is turning into rheumatoid arthritis in one of my fingers but I am not going to let that stop me. Lately, I have really been raiding Etsy finding so many good things that appeal to me and not have a lot left over in a book. I will check out Hannah. God bless her. So many bad things happening right now. Even my good friend down on 7 had her cat, Montana, crawl into her lap on the 27th, look at her, pat her twice on the hand with her paw and die. So many people and places to pray for...I need to get back in my colouring to calm down. Thank you for being here every week, Sarah and Shane.

I was under the impression Hanna Karlzon is right up there with the popular artists, as I had seen her books in a lot of coloring book artists videos. I didn't own any of her books up until a few weeks ago, now I have all of them (Forest Kingdom and Häxans Stuga are still on the way) , except for Grains of Gold, which is a compilation book.

I bought some colouring books and alcohol markers like 1-2 years ago. Only to be disappointed that most of the Colouring books are not really usable with alcohol makers regarding the paper.

I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer this May of 2022. What I thought was bursitis in my right shoulder irritated by me knitting a lot over Christmas was x rayed and showed “lesions” there. More scans showed lesions all down my spine, knees and feet. Since it is too painful to knit, I have found you, Chloe Rose and Rae Dizzle. (But in opposite order)
I have your book, Coloring through Cancer, since this will be my second time through. I learn so much with your videos. Thank you for what you do. You actually teach something with every thing you do. Blessed be.

Many years ago, when I was teaching, I had a Scottish girl in her final year of high school, who had the most beautiful auburn hair I have ever seen! She wore a simple teal dress to her school dance and was hands down the most stunning girl in the room.
Thank you for introducing her to us. I lost my mom to Cancer in August and I’m still trying to process it. Bought one of Hanna’s books and a starter set of practice sheets from her Etsy. My condolences on your own Mother’s passing as well.

There's nothing wrong with giving credit where credit is due. Hanna Karlzon is one of my most favorite artists for coloring books - she's right up there with Johanna Basford. Her artwork is AMAZING! And she continually puts out books! Personally I don't think she can be given enough praise for what she does!

I loved watching this! You are such a kind human being! I wish there were more people out there showing love and support just because it's the right thing. Also this is a beautiful color pallet.
Not sure I'd consider Hanna Karlzon as underrated, she's one of the biggest sellers on Amazon and usually highly recommended in all Colouring Groups and has had a Colouring Heaven magazine dedicated just to her work.
But the more publicity the better imho!
She’s actually not one of the biggest sellers on Amazon, that was the whole point here. Her books aren’t in the top 100 coloring books. Only 1 of 2 are even in the top 100 among the subcategories at about #80-90. And they SHOULD be.
I was surprised too. That’s why I dug a little deeper into Google, and that’s why I’m saying she’s underrated. Anyone who knows her knows she should be one of the biggest.
@@SarahRenaeClark here in the UK she's very well known and appears on all the Amazon recommended lists. Maybe it's an Aussie v US v Europe thing? Plus Amazon obviously also takes into account the stats and interests of the person doing the searching, as does Google. Your results will be different to mine based on our internet usage etc.
I'd also guess a lot of it is down to Amazon keywords as well, the No1 book in the UK Best Sellers in Colouring Books for Grown-Ups category on Amazon UK is a mass produced "studio" book without a named artist called You Are F****** Magical and it's been sneakily put in the Typography in Graphic Arts category.
So, I guess the point I'm making is that Hanna's very well known within all the colouring groups I've been involved in for the past decade and I'd say she's one of the top recommended when it comes to actual named artists versus just the publishing house colouring books. But, as I said, more publicity for Hanna the better, especially with her current situation.
@@Mirrigold you might be right about the UK book rankings, but the stats I was using don’t take my own searches into consideration. They aren’t recommendations, they are based on sale and search data. The Google data is worldwide, not just Australia.
I also compared her total book sales in the USA (using the Amazon best seller rank) so that keywords wouldn’t affect it.
I’ve just checked the Amazon UK rankings, and her Daydreams book is #64 and Forest Kingdom #89. Her other books don’t rank in the top 100 adult coloring books. This is based on current sales stats and doesn’t take my own searches into consideration. So she’s definitely more well known in the UK. But I’d still love to see her sales and searches much closer to the numbers of Johanna or Kerby!
@@SarahRenaeClarkWe're in total agreement there, I think a lot of the problem is that Amazon is flooded with mass produced "publisher" cheap colouring books that get higher rankings because they're often incorrectly categorised using "dodgy" keywords 😁
Hanna Karlzon is HUGE in the US as well! Her and Johanna Basford are EASILY the top 2!
Hanna is my favorite. I own every book and multiples of a few of them. Her art style is totally my Jam.
I am one of those people who are a bit scared to pick up my colouring supplies. I like the idea of it, but I’m not great at it. I purchased a couple of Hanna’s books off Amazon this week. I love them. They’re beautiful drawings, that don’t feel intimidating to colour. I’ve done more colouring this week than I have in months. Highly recommend

absolutely loved the way you colored that page! ❤ a little personal tip on skin as someone who does portraits on the reg; try mixing a little warm purple in the shadows & make some of the shadows have clearer and more well defined edges 😊

Underrated?! In the coloring community (worldwide), she is a popular name and her coloring books adored by many.
Stumbled across this video a few days a go when I was searching for coloured pencil reviews (Ended up going with a set of 36 polychromos & a 120 set of Castle Art Gold.) Got given some colouring books for christmas (Mythomorphia - Kerby Rosanes & Gothica - Francois Gautier) Went on a bit of a binge of your videos. This book is beautiful. I may have gone and brought it right away when I watched the video even though I had been brought two new books for Christmas. The images are beautiful, not too hard but not too easy. That perfect midrange. I am 100% going to be getting my mother a couple of her books for her birthday in Jan. She's another avid colourer.
I started coloring with Hanna, Johanna and Kerby's books. She holds a very special place in my heart... 💕
Lady, Karlzon is everything but underrated. She's one of the most successful and popular coloring book artist.
The stats say otherwise.
Get her books back in the top 100 coloring books, give her more than 40k Instagram followers, and get those Google searches up- and then we can revisit this comment.

I have almost all of Hanna Karlzon’s coloring books. I love the paper in them so much and her pictures are magic. I also love Maria Trolle who I feel is another under rated coloring book creator in America. Both of them never disappoint with their books. I’m hoping Hanna Karlzon gets through her medical issues without any complications.

Love your work. You make me laugh. I have 3 of Hanna's books and have done lots out of Daydreams, which was one of the first books I bought. Haven't done this page yet though. I really like Hanna's work. I have that exact same book and I am absolutely gutted because I totally messed up that page you did in this video trying to do a blue/green skin tone so I may have to get another of her books.
There are sooo many incredible adult colouring book artists that are extremely underrated! Bennett Klein's older books are really cool and are a really good alternative style with lots of more gothic/horror based images. I have a bunch of different colouring books by some amazing artists so I will comment in the morning (it's 1.30am here in the UK) and give you some of my favourites!
I can understand what you mean about the stresses of the moment - we were given 2 months notice a month ago to move house as our landlord needs the property back for his sister who has broken up with her partner and needs a home. Finding a place big enough (I live with my sister, her husband and their 3 kids aged 7, 12 and 15) and within our budget is proving an absolute nightmare and trying to pack all of our stuff when we have nowhere to go yet is super stressful! I am planning on putting together an art kit tomorrow with a few colouring books, some coloured pencils, a travel watercolour set and water brushes, a sketchbook or two and some drawing pencils so that I can pack all of the rest of my art supplies (there's a LOT 😂) and not go completely crazy in this stressful time with no artistic outlet! 😂 Now the hardest part will be choosing the colouring books and deciding which set of pencils/paints to keep out! 🤔😬

She is one of the most famous coloring book artists.. so I am a little confused to see her referred to as underrated. :) But I am very glad you finally discovered her. She is amazing!!
I was surprised too… but I was going off the actual data I found in her book rankings, sales and Google searches!
It might have helped if her name was spelled correctly for the Google search? It's Hanna, not Hannah. Also, I think a lot of colourists buy her books in the non-English editions, because they come out earlier, so she'd probably come out much higher at somewhere like bookdepository. She definitely isn't underrated in the colouring community, although she might not be as mainstream as Johanna Basford. I'm always amazed how many colourists only ever colour in Johanna Basford books!
@@psyraven76 you’re right that I misspelled her name, but I’ve since checked the search rankings again with the correct name and the results are the same (Google obviously recognizes the typo and the intended search)
I agree with you about the multiple languages though. This is a good point relating to the Amazon rankings and means her sales are split up against multiple books. They would probably rank higher if they were combined.
I own 2 of her books and picked them out from 100s of coloring books at a large book store near my house years ago when adult coloring books started becoming a thing. So I am also surprised that more ppl dont know about her

I have Seasons by Hanna and I must say that it intimidates me big time. I bought it to support her too but I guess I'll get to it when I feel more comfortable. I seem to be stuck on my Kerby books at the moment anyway :) Hanna is pretty awesome though

Beautifully done! I bought 2 of Ms. Karlzon's books recently after learning of her journey. I am new to coloring, and although you encourage us all to just go for it . . . .lol, I'm a big chicken. I only have 2 completed coloring pages ever, and one was a color along. The other, was using the exact palette you used here. Thank you for that! My confidence grew 10x over.

Greetings from New Zealand. I have recently discovered your channel, and separately, Hannah's books. The pictures are so gorgeous! I was really quite surprised to see them so far down on the Amazon search. Anyway, I am getting 4 of them this week - daydreams, magical dawn, city among the stars, and witch's cottage.
I am so sorry to hear this news about Hanna. I will keep her in my thoughts and prayers for a full recovery. I received her books the first three and a set for Christmas but I have never felt like I was good enough to color her beautiful work. To honor her I will start on her first book and work my way through each and every page of all three books! Hannas pages Are absolutely amazing and she is in my top three favorite artist!
I have Magical Dawn, I bought it right before she posted her announcement. I was told it was classic Hanna.
