Ahhh, don't count on it. Not even right out and 'away from it all' here in Australia. I'm a person that has lived out in bush camps, 'well appointed' ones, and very well hidden away too (and sometimes for very long periods at at a time), and all will go just fine and routine for months at a time, THEN, you suddenly get one or more of 'Those Days'. Yes I've even had equipment bicycles, batteries, solar panels, Gas Stoves, wiring, etc, stolen, despite my otherwise good security preparations and arrangements. And then you do get the occasional (and to be quite honest) absolute pestilence and annoyances [they must be born for it] stumble=blunder into your location. Even in temporary/weekend camps, always have one or more very special (and prepared) hiding spots (security locations) right away out of camp (but easily abd quickly accessable to you) where , money, personal stuff, cameras, weapons, or other can be hidden away, and always try to make sure that A: Unless it's real urgent, try to visit those secure locations only in twilight, night, or in the wee hours [particularly the most important/sensitive ones], and B: alwas do a bit of a quick recce around and try to make sure, and be satisfied that their is no other person around the area or surveilling you before heading to any of them.

Considering your surrounded by twigs and fallen branches, the fact that you didn't hear him until he made contact with you being right behind you tells me he had other ideas on his mind, creeping up on someone you don't know in the woods is strange behaviour, I personally wouldn't camp there again.

Life is so much different now. I love it actually. I only drink once a week now and it's my night. I enjoy it now.
I remember the first time I drank again after stopping for six months… I was drinking the same glass of wine for over two hours. I encourage anyone to take a breather if that's what their soul is calling them to do. You can go back with a completely different mindset and it’s wonderful.

I have always listened to my inner voice or as you say, gut instinct, that’s how I’ve made it to 72. I know it was a beautiful spot to camp in but you don’t want it to be the beautiful spot you died in. Find another spot off the beaten trail and turn it into your outdoor sanctuary.

Glad you got out safe enough to tell the tale. I admire your courage to go stealth camping in the first place and you come across as a good friendly guy .Also think your vids are entertaining. However stealth camping is inherently risky. I own a motorhome and would never consider wild camping in it.I have heard stories of bricks thrown through windows in the dead of night. Some seriously sinister individuals knocking around at night. Stay safe Gaz. You’ve got kids back home and a lovely little dog who need you. Also thank you for baring your soul bout your drinking A great achievement. Well done and good luck .

I dont think stealth camping is inherently risky. I've been doing it for years and never encountered anyone coming up to me. You almost never see or hear anyone else in the woods after dark. You are in far more danger walking the streets at night, or getting on a bus or train at night, or driving on the roads at any time.
This incident here is an anomaly, or at the very least unusual. Unless you go to a spot that is well known and visited by others. I personally never camp anywhere that other people have used. It would put me off right away.

The guy who left probably told a story like this "I was in the woods last night and I turned a corner and bam, there was this bloke there camping...camping in a drug area, I thought it odd but he seemed nice. He offered me a steak and some mash so I stayed. It was odd though he kept asking personal questions. Like how I ended up in life getting addicted and if I had any family. He said family can help but I think he was looking for a victim who wouldn't be missed. Then all off a sudden he jumps up real quick like and went for an axe. So while he's chopping away I make my move and hurry off. Then real creepy like he yells at me "See you laaaaater" omg this bloke was mad creepy". lol. just popped in my head.

If the woods are in a suburban area it’s more than likely he was taking a shortcut and just passing through.
Asking for a light was an excuse to make contact with you so he could suss you and the area out.
I noticed he stood far back in the dark when you were recording so his identity wasn’t recorded.
Why he suddenly left is the major red flag.
Abnormal and anxious to leave shows he had something on his mind and he didn’t care about offending you. He disregarded your thoughts.
    Very sketchy and unpredictable.

im sorry but i doubt a smackhead has neither
      A. the technology to see clearly in the dark
      or
      B. the knowledge to know that he set a trailcam up where he did
it was at the base of a tree, the guy didnt come back in the middle of the night as some kind of boogeyman out to harm and steal, if anything the fact that the trailcam was gone tells us he/someone else came by in the morning where you could actually see the base of the tree in passing, if it was the same guy he probably popped by in the morning thinking he made a friend, seen the trailcam and thought 'aww he left this, ill take it for some quick cash'
was getting out of there when he had the fear the best thing to do? yeah trust your gut, but demonising this poor homeless guy after the fact based on a missing trailcam that was definetly not take during the night in a forest when you cant see even an inch infront of you, yeah no.
if i was homeless and found a random ass trailcam in the middle of nowhere id take it and sell it on too. he might have stole the trailcam after coming by to see if our video man was still there in the morning, but hes not some psychopathic murder-junkie out to stab and commit armed robbery

As we can see in the footage (which is darker than reality), it was clearly bright enough for him to see everything when he first arrived, including the trailcam which was in the direction he was facing when he was filmed. You are completely misunderstanding something here.
You don't know the person or the people he's hanging out with.
The mere fact that a person follows the smoke to ask for a light is very strange and at this point everything could only have served as an excuse and to find out what's going on there.
I don't know how remote the place is and I don't know this UA-cam channel either. But I don't walk into the woods to ask for a light.
Also, the person said something about himself, which makes it even weirder, he's a drug addict, where lives on the street and got stabbed by his mates in the past.
And the next thing is that he just walked away without saying anything, GrizzlyGaz then decided to leave the place based on his gut feeling which was exactly the right decision. The person himself or also other colleagues of him could show up again to rob him, threaten him or whatever.
And when the camera is gone where he left, confirms that someone has come back.
First of all, I don't understand how you can think that no one would see the camera, maybe someone had a lighter or a cell phone or flashlight? It wouldn't be that unusual. Drug addicts in particular often have lighters with them and knifes.
I don't think anyone would then want to stay in this place, let alone sleep without having an eye open.

I've done a lot of camping in urban areas in the past. And forests nearby, but also a little further. You wouldn't believe how many people move through the woods at night. Especially homeless people and junkies, the worst thing is when they take your camping spot. It's really no joke. Since then, I tend to go to more remote places or to the mountains. And at least it's a good idea to always carry a knife.

You're really affable, and I love that you won't sell out...nothing wrong with making some funds to support your channel, but you're not pushing items you wouldn't use yourself.
I live in the mountains of East Tennessee (yeah, American...hope u don't hold that against me too much) and it was great to see you respect the wilderness the way you do.
Do be safe out there on your own, it's definitely sad but the world has become crazy, and we never really know what the other guy is gonna do...especially the lone junkie living in the rough.

You were absolutely right to listen to your instincts. Please, do not go back to camp there again! I'm a firm believer in instinct. Just May 6th, I survived a near death experience. I live in a senior apartment complex that is gorgeous. I just moved in last October. Brand new buildings. I bought all new furnishings, and it was going to be my forever peaceful place. It is set back into the woods and is quite lovely really. A man and woman came around several times asking about how to get in as tenants. Immediately I had just a terrible sick feeling. And every time after that they came around. I began to purposely avoid them. They managed to get into an apartment this last January. On May 6th of this year, they drove through my apartment and almost out the other end, while I was standing in the kitchen. They drove a full-size pick-up truck. I am still healing and seeing several doctors for different injuries. I lost everything and have had to start all over again. So, please Griz, don't go back there. Take your warning seriously. I never dreamed this would happen to me. I just thought he was a creeper.

Greetings from Florida, America! Every time I didn't listen to my gut, I ended up regretting it. Good call on pulling up your stakes and getting out. That sort of thing is why I'm armed when I go camping. I don't worry so much about the 4 legged critters - I had a bear wander through my campsite once and didn't do more than sniff around and smell bad. It's the two legged beasties that I worry about. It's a shame to feel like I have to consider that angle, but the number of back country encounters is on the rise and I'd rather not become a statistic.
The more I think about it, the more disturbing your encounter was. He shared your food and ate at your table while planning your harm. Smart move getting out when you did. Avoidance is always best. You've got nothing to prove and everything to lose. I just subscribed. Looking forward to seeing more of your adventures!

I remember my first trip in UK when I was 18. I camped in an isolated meadow, when night fell I saw lots of lights moving in the woods. It was getting worrying and I decided to go and see. The closer I got, the more I heard screams, groans of pain, footsteps in the leaves... until I saw a face emerging in the middle of a bush and staring at me. It was terrifying and I turned around very quickly to come back, there I saw a guy riding another guy at the edge of the woods, maybe at five meters away. The next day I was actually told that this place was known for its murmurs and its thousand-handed bushes as soon as the sun went down. When you set up camp, you need to cut off a bunch of long small branches and lay them around your camp, and down trails leading to your camp, so if anyone is walking around your camp area, you will hear branches breaking, as they are coming your way, also, trail cameras have a place where you can run a small steel cable through them, so you can lock your camera to the tree, so it won't get stolen 😁👍

Its boobie trap alarm you can set up anywhere. I use them as well as cams for night time creepers on two legs. You can set them high enough that your doggie could pass right under but the people creepers will touch them off. You should take a peek at them online. Totally worth it...Stay brave stay camping.

Scary. I would definitely make a recon of the entire area before I decided to camp again anywhere. The big knife you had for splitting wood would come in handy if he showed up again to harm you, but the right thing to do if you wanted to stay would be to leave the campfire and bed down a good distance away like the cowboys on the plains in America did, within sight of your camp so you can see who sneaks up. You got an interesting channel and I like it that you don't take paid sponsors. A good one that I watch in America is Outdoor Gear Review. He gives honest reviews on products and let you know if it's good ir bad. He also has some really good camping. You're camping in some dangerous areas. Take precautions.

Your previous videos show that you have really good instincts. Always trust that. I am so very happy that you and little Fendi are safe!! Although it is a really good camp site, I don’t think that it is safe for you two anymore since it appears that homeless addicts are camping near by. I really enjoy your videos and I would really hate for you and Fendi to be in harms way. It’s much better to be very safe than sorry. I will continue to keep you both in my prayers. God bless and protect you and sweet little, adorable Fendi!! 🙏 😊

Ex addict here, don’t tar every addict with the same brush pal, I was on heroin for 17 yrs& not once did I steal off anyone& worked to support my habit& out of all the junkies I knew only a few were like that& you’re in far more danger from drinkers or crackheads( they won’t be in the woods though, they stick to areas that have crack…funnily enough),all the best 👍

I agree but I noted Gaz unconsciously, intuitively did too. The way he stood, his facial impression and laugh became "forced" to a degree. Didn't help the stranger standing in the shadows the furthest end from the camera.
Not all down on their luck will bite the hand that feeds them... But the actions preceding this and then trail cam being missing shows in this case intentions were pre meditated. Glad Gaz packed up regardless of the hour.

Such a good job you left. Our instincts are rarely wrong. I did wonder in the previous video if it was you in the poncho giving us a little scare, but now we know it wasn’t, that video is even more creepy! I don’t think you should go back there, keep you and little fenzel safe! Great vid as usual 😊

You had some good instincts on this one, my friend, glad you got out of there when your gut told you to. Just found the channel and I'm sticking around after this! Also, if you're ever seriously concerned about your fire smoke being spotted from a trail for fear of something exactly like this happening, look into how to dig a Dakota Fire Hole or Dakota Fire Pit. It's a bit more work than your standard fire pit above ground but it burns hotter and generates less smoke. Looking forward to more adventures, stay safe, brother!

Breaking camp was a very wise decision. It feels like that camp spot is well out of the way, so very suspect when someone other than an outdoor enthusiast appears from nowhere without even Fendy alerting you. Stay safe both of you.

Bug off BUGS! Or is it Bugger off BUGS! Yes indeed -strange behavior from Martin where he just left like that. Here you were nice and shared your food with him, hopefully he'll remember that and not cause you any grief later -always look out for yourself. Enjoyed the video especially when you talked in the high squeaky voice - that would be a great character voice;; you can make extra money doing that you know ;)

Wow that was a close call Gaz. Definitely right to break camp and get out of there on this occasion. I suspect you were right about your hooded friend returning either alone to take you by surprise or with his mates. Who knows, he could have been reccying your camps for weeks, weighing things up. Those noises you heard could well have been him and his mates testing the water as it were. I wouldn't go back there alone definitely, and if you did I'd go with a group of you at the very least.
I'm always extra careful on the solo camps to conceal myself, go full stealth and use camo netting, camo tents etc, stay well away from paths etc just cos I'm so paranoid about someone creeping up on me etc.
Stay safe. I'm glad you decided to listen to your instincts and leave. ATB Dan

I love your video for several reason. One, you have a lot of respect t for the outdoors and you always take the time to clean up so the environment benefits. Two, you are a really generous person, I don’t know any other UA-camr that would feed a complete strange because he was homeless and third your love for Fendy. Your videos deserve a lot more subscribers and views on your videos.

I had a similar situation happen to me on the App.Trail, and a couple of guys came into my camp asking a bunch of questions with no gear whatsoever. They didn't have any weapons that I could see, which was good for my piece of mind. They just gave off this creepy vibe from the get-go. I had brought enough food for me and my dog, so I didn't have any to feed anyone else. I've got a German shepherd, and they just kept going on and on about him. He's trained to obey my commands, so if they had made any negative movements, he would have eaten them alive. They wouldn't take any hints that I was ready for them to leave. I went in my tent and put my holstered 45 on, and they left not long after that, and we didn't see anymore of them.
