Michael Shannon developing his on-camera mean streak that served him so well when he played Richard Kuklinski in The Iceman.
This is why this scene is so well done. You see all the guys giggling, laughing and thinking it's "normal" to torture another human being because they're 'the enemy' and they distance themselves by using racist derogatory names for enemy soldiers. Bozz sees right through that and calls the Sergeant out on it, which causes his fellow soldiers to initially react with confusion and contempt.
But when one of them is suddenly on the potential receiving end of this torture they suddenly realize how inhumane and disgusting it really is. The only ones who were still okay with the whole situation were the Sergeant and Wilson - who clearly wasn't mentally stable.
You can't really afford to show the enemy a shred of humanity or weakness because they will use that against you, you have to be as brutal and ruthless as your enemy if you hope to win
@@sniperviper4922 ...said every authoritarian regime ever about those they want to demonise.
@@sniperviper4922 torture more often produces unreliable information than any that's worth anything
@@andrewroberts7428 than keep going till they produce reliable information
@@andrewroberts7428 The Vietnamese didn't torture to get info from allied POWs, they systematically tortured to psychologically break the POWs.
The TA-312 is a Field Telephone, not a radio. It requires wires to connect to other TA-312s.

I was at Tigerland in July of 72 I guess I missed this station.
I was there in September of 72
It went both ways. Veterans repeatedly told stories of how they felt they were going to get overrun and were told to save a round to kill themselves with because it was better than being tortured to death by the VC/NVA who were experts at it.
yeah and the US was much much kinder then the VC, they were not held by any rules and did whatever they wanted to the people they kept.
The difference is that the GIs were invaders. The Vietnamese were defending their country.
@@cat_city2009 Their country was in a civil war. We were technically defending one side as well, but yeah. According to the legendary Marine sniper Carlos Hathcock, in his account of his experience in Vier Nam, apparently there had been one Viet Cong female soldier/leader of some type, that was notorious for torturing captured GI's. If I recall correctly she would pull out all their finger/toe nails, sometimes peel their skin and usually dismember them. At which point they would be set free to run back to their base, knowing quite well they would bleed out long before reaching safety. Hathcock personally took her out. Pretty crazy stuff.
@@warrens.5933 The US were invaders. Just because they were propping up a regime that was losing *hard* in a civil war doesn't turn them in to defenders. The US invaded Vietnam and lost.
@@Lex-dw7ng I'm not disagreeing with you.
The TA-312 is NOT a radio...it's a wired handset
I have two Swedish and one Soviet field phone. The magnetos generate ~90 volts. Ouch!
So Penguin, Detective Burke and General Zod join the Army.
The sergeant conducting this class is wearing the Ninth infantry division patch on the right shoulder
Pro tip for anyone who is thinking about enlisting. Making life harder for your fellow soldiers is only going to end badly for you later on.
Better tip; Don’t stand by like a coward and allow anyone to violate their oath or the UCMJ.
@@TJBUSMC1973 you mean an oath they didn't sign up for back then? teaching information works a hell of a lot better than beating it in them physically like a bad dog. not even the seals today train like this, and they could clean the floor with these instructors in making more efficient fighters that don't involve violence.
@@capcom7794 Do you think I’m for or against this type of behavior/training? I would like to make sure before I reply, because there may be some confusion here.
Pro tip: Don't enlist.
The TA-312 was a telephone, not a radio.
A difference without a distinction
@@jacoblape There were no wireless telephones in the 70s, kiddo
I'm so confused. Words like "fuck" have to be censored, but "gook" and "slant eyed" are totally fine?
Yea
What's even more ironic is a story a RAF bomber pilot told, he said in world war 2 his flight officer got pissed as hell when he painted the word "fuck" on an airplane because its derogatory and inhumane. inhumane to write that on a plane that's on its way to bomb and kill hundreds of innocent civilians.
Or Showing torture.
Land of the free and the home of the brave sir. Where up is down and down is up, where the average schmo doesn’t know his ass from his elbow.
Perfectly fine
Horse shit!!!! The TA 312 is not a radio, it’s a phone that uses small gauge two wire to communicate from one phone to another. It’s powered by two D batteries, it cannot zap like a car battery.
I used to ask troops gullible enough to hold the exposed two wire in the air to catch a signal. Then I’d crank it. In fact I still have a couple of 312’s I keep around the house and let the kids play with them, because they’re harmless.
@@hawkeye31k I am not a signals man nor am I that old… yet. But I filled the position of a 25 series. I am still active. My first unit had a ton of these and used them as secondary communications. Which sucked because I had to drag and cover the two wire all over the place. Plus it wasn’t realistic in a modern combat scenario.
funny how all the swears are beeped but all the racism isn't, what a world we live in.
America runs on racism
I know, The american Anthem is even ran by Racism.. screw america.
Feel free to leave it anytime
@@williammclaughlin2946 Even you know it is done... Can't even say the name and used an indefinite article "it"... LOL
That's American media for you. Same with gratuitous violence being passable but don't drop a profanity. lmfao
If this be even half what we did to our own troops no damn wonder they come home broken even today
TA 312 Radio? reallly? sparks? really? , scratch this one off.
He will tell you the minor league baseball scores if you ask him. That is why torture does not work.
He will tell you anything he thinks you want to hear.
Plus un lake je connais pas se film
one will be a general and one will die for a general.. guess who they are?
this is how we talk shop at work, beautiful. real men shit.
I really hate Wilson.
They should make a new Tigerland movie with the same script, before it's the end of the world

Editing out the curse words but using racial terms. Amazing.
Cry about it
This sergeant is dead with me, if he play at this...
Boz is so edgy.
Terrible southern accent.
