Apocalypse Now is definitely the worst movie in this list. It has no tiniest relation to the actual events. The plot is taken from a book about a German gunboat travelling along some African river. Therefore the movie is full of idiocies. In example: the main personage sails two or three days up the Mekong river and reaches some thick jungle forest with weirdly looking savages, resembling some wild African tribes. In reality, if you sail by the Mekong, in couple of days you'll reach the Cambodian border, where you'll local farms and farmers looking not different from Vietnamese. If you keep sailing in one more day you'll come to the capital of Cambodia Phnom Penh. There the police would stop our personages and ask what were they doing there. End of story.
Talking about the most accurate movie. I asked my friend, who served two tours in Vietnam in the Green Berets and 82nd airborn division, and he recommended We Were Soldiers.
I agree with you. I watched AN for the first time a few weeks ago. I found it very tedious to watch. It was nothing more than a series of unrelated short stories tethered together by a river trip culminating in an old abandoned Indiana Jones archeological site. I don't understand what all the hype is about.
There were 8 battles in Vietnam all taken into movies by God. The Troops were all real American Soldiers who knew it was a movie to contain the War In Vietnam. All Vietnam Vets are British Propagandists. They were not in Vietnam at all. White Woman as Elizabeth II Essex Grandmother ran the Propaganda to say Americans were in Vietnam as 100,000 Soldiers which is a blatant lie. Natalie Helferty Hollywood Royal who filmed Hamburger Hill to take it into a Movie. There were 200 American Soldiers sent to Vietnam and all were put into the Hollywood Movies.
I'd love to have what you're smoking
Where is The Green Berets. Oh, it shows the positive side of the American effort to give freedom and democracy to the people of Vietnam. So, it would make your list. I did 2 tours and The Green Berets and We Were Soldiers are the only two movies that truly show the war and maybe The Siege of Firebase Gloria.
Of course there is valour in the soldiers who fought bravely for country but the insidious nature of politics behind the scenes tarnish the reputation of those who fight without questioning orders. Because Its a soldiers job to fight among his brothers and for country. I can respect that. The villains are those who push the pawn pieces around in their twisted ideology. I don't believe in heroic war films or critique ones. As they never address why one must fight. Just the human toll. You could look at ww2 films where every German is a nazi. But most of the wehrmacht were regular people caught between the crusade of a tyrannt and his fight to live on. Its also why Westerns are shit to me. One sided love affair with an agenda. And the film zulu hardly brings me any nationalism as a brit. Sure brave soldiers but the question of why they fight left out. Its just a us versus them cinema piece. Best look at war I've seen is flags of our fathers/letters from iwo jima. Perspective from both sides on why they fight.
The Green Berets(1968) wasn't the positive side, it was a white washed verison of the war..They covered up all the controversy and murder! John Wayne sucked..😂
Don’t you think that Christopher Walken should be mentioned in the Deer Hunter section?
