Looks like you had the same amount of fun on $30 that anyone else would have had with more money. Just gotta be creative, which you are. That dinner looked amazing! Great video
One thing I do is bring PEANUT BUTTER around with me when I need a snack. Saves money, a spoonful tastes delicious, kills your hunger, and is actually pretty healthy compared to most snacky food. Lovely video as always Gabe.
here's tip for anybody coming to Rhodes Manny communitys have free host rooms!! some charge peanuts. Some big monasterys also have guests rooms. all welcomed!!
Hi Gabriel I know Im commenting on a old video just wanted to say I went travelling in 92 and stayed in Anna in Perissa Beach, or there was another hostel almost opposite I think (?).It was 450 drachmas (about 1£ at the time!) I loved Perissa as it was backpacker friendly and I loved hiking up the rock and down the other side to the beach on the other side! Lived there for few months working and having fun, before carrying on travelling. Looking to going travelling again once the virus situation cools down
I highly recommend people to go on a boat cruise to the volcano and swim in the heated waters caused by the volcano and then do a mud bath. The views of the island from the boat is magical.
i've been looking for a video like this with perfect clear information. no other video like it so i cannot imagine your book. new subscriber great video
That's awesome Gabriel! Great video, very helpful, and good for you on making it on $30/day. That's a great tip about being able to bring your bicycle on the ferry for free. I will do the same and buy one in Athens.
Sweet, thanks a lot! I'll do a video sometime about more of my hitchhiking experiences. I actually started hitchhiking when I was a kid, so I'm kind of used to it.
You would have saved a lot of money, just by carrying a sleeping bag or a small tent in your backpack, finding your perfect shadow, and sleeping under the stars! Free camping is so common here in Greece, especially in the "less mainstream" islands, which are plenty.
Please do more videos like this! I find them very informative. Maybe you can do one every time you travel to a new country? that would be amazing! Have a great day Gabriel
Thanks Selina. Yes I do generally make a video like this for every country I go to. Here's one from Thailand: ua-cam.com/video/P_UTlKvgogo/v-deo.html And Cambodia: ua-cam.com/video/NprwA0__pDE/v-deo.html And Nepal: ua-cam.com/video/RRBilhdtCQU/v-deo.html
Your awesome Gabe! keep up the shares for budget travelling. Bought the book a couple of months ago, wanted to support your efforts plus I plan on doing some overseas travels in 2018. This year and 2017 I will B travelling throughout the U.S. Safe travels and stay breezy.
Hi Gabriel, I watched this video. This is really awesome and giving some confident how to spent days happily along with enough expenses. Thanks for sharing your travel experience. It is really helpful for like me those who want to visit greece.
Just so you know if you're on a budget next time you go, people don't normally tip in Greece. You always can to be nice but it's not like here in America where it's frowned upon to leave less than 20%. Even like a 30 or 40 euro meal you can leave like 1 euro and they would be thankful. It's basically already in the price of the meal.
Ha ha, I hear you, that's definitely more typical. Also without a bicycle you'll spend more on transportation. Renting a motorbike is about 10 euros a day plus gas.
Gabe I am an audio engineer & music producer, and I do some filming. I would love to one day be your cameraman and create really cool documentary travel videos.
A few decades before this island was inhabited by less than a 100 people and there were no tourists at all. Only fishermen and farmers with their families.
Only a part of your statement is true and the other is false. The true part is that there were no tourists probably back in the '40 or '50. The false part of your statement is that it was inhabited by less than 100. Probably closer to 20-30k back in the '40 or '50 and more or less the same amount of people back in 1200 bc.
Gab your are the best budget traveler on you tube. awesome vid man because this is how you really travel not just one day if you can survive on 30 euros . you are an expert. Never been to Europe but planing on it soon but man it's expensive. South east asia is so much more affordable.
These types of videos are so useful. Do you have price comparisons for different places you have visited in a book, ebook etc as this would help travel planning.
Kudos for travelling to maybe the most expensive greek island and managing to spend under 30$ ! Except for cheap souvlaki places, local bakeries have usually a lot of cheap and freshly made things to eat for breakfast (cheesepies etc) which are super tasty.
It's better to find hostels in Fira, where all the bus stops because it's centrally located. There are many supermarkets, bakery, fast food in Fira. I walked to the next village (hard to spell in Greek!) where all the lovely villas are on the cliffs, watch amazing sunset. To reach Oia, just take a bus ride, someone told me you can hike up to Oia but will take a long time, if you are on holiday, why not? I stayed in Parissa during my 1st visit to Santorini, but the long bus ride is too time consuming. I'm going to Rhodes by ferry off the coast of Fethiye, Turkey next week, hopefully it has a decent bus schedules.
How much would you recommend to take per day for budget travelling around the rest of Europe, including Paris, Rome, Amsterdam, Budapest, Berlin, dubrovnik, etc?
Wonderful video Gabriel! (except for the dead animal on your dinner plate...) Has it crossed your mind at all to become a bit or partly breathatarian...- that would possibly save some on food expenses.
I can hear the Mandarin tour guide in the background, seriously how can you enjoy anything in a trip if all you ever think is how to be cheap and saving money!
This is one of my "How expensive" videos in which I show the costs of things for people who are interested in knowing the prices in a certain country or place. I have lots of different types of videos, most of which aren't focused on the prices.
Great video Gabriel. Everytime I head to a destination I'll check out your channel and sure enough you've been there 😁 recently Vietnam and Iceland. I'm heading to Parissa in June 2020 so thanks for sharing 👍
I have booked hotel and flight to perissa and home (Sweden) in june for one week for two people and the breakfast is included, it costed 287 dollars per person, thats a bargain :D and the hotel is 3 minutes from the beach.
Okay, tipping at 30$ a day is awesome! Just one thing: You forgot the price of the bike (divided by the days you had it, of course) and the price of the ferry (divided by the days you spend on Santorini), assuming that Santorini was part of a bigger tour around Greece. So it will be more than 30$ - but still not that much I guess! :)
I bought the bike in Athens, so there was no daily charge for it, and I didn't take a ferry on the day that I made the video. But yes those are certainly expenses to keep in mind.
Why dont you just pick two souvlaki, its only cost 2e (each) or 2.2 and its much more food than these plate you call ''massive plate of food'' which is not, and the beer is expensive when you sit at a place, you can buy beers cheaper from a minimarket have your souvlaki's take away and enjoy your meal at the beach or at your place or where ever you want
True. But I work on the computer in the evenings and do my video editing, so it's nice to have a restaurant to sit down in and even have wi-fi. But yeah buying a beer from the supermarket is super cheap, some are less than 1 euro for 500 ml. I don't like to eat gyros every meal though myself, a bit too much bread and potatoes. Prefer them as a snack during lunchtime.
great video. i love to travel cheap as well and its nice to see other people enjoying new places instead of new things at those places. have you been to greece in october? im taking my boyfriend for his first international trip in october and was wonderin if you knew some good places since its getting later in the season. thanks
October is a great time to visit Greece, less crowds and lower prices. I went to Santorini in October actually, another time and it was perfect, rooms were much cheaper. But a lot of businesses were closed up. You can really go to any of the islands then, it will still be pretty warm though it might depend on if it's starting to rain in some places.
Gabriel, I suggest your next stop in Greece be Rhodes/Rodos. I have been travelling to Greece for many years and it is all around, the best. I got married there too.
My father is actually from Imerovigli, Santorini ............but believe it or not, I like Rodos better. The beaches are alot better as well. We actually own Anitas Villas in Imerovigli. Not a budget place to say though. Obviously my youtube name is not my actual name lol. If you need another budget location in Greece.......Matala-Crete and Agia Galini-Crete will fit your bill, fantastic beaches in both places too and they aren't far from eachother. I did that budget trip back in 92 with my cousin and it was great. I have more suggestions on other islands if you need.
I see, cool, I really want to go to Crete. I've been to 19 Greek islands in my three trips to Greece, so I've seen some good ones! But fortunately there's always more to explore.
How much was the ferry from Athens to Santorini and how long was the journey? I have a budget for renting a car BUT do you think I need it for Santorini or Athens? I plan to stay on Santorini but definitely visit Athens. I also plan, if possible to visit Mykonos but it's not a must.
Hi, I forget exactly how much I paid, but I show the whole ferry journey and how much the ticket cost in this video: ua-cam.com/video/4ntJOAKrJwk/v-deo.html
So you actually BOUGHT a Bike in Athens? Where did you buy it? How long were you in Greece? What did you do with your bike? Did you sell it when you left the country? Where did you sell it? Im asking because it's a Fantastic Idea and I go to the islands in 3 months.
Gabel, really enjoyed this video. How long do you plan on being on the road this time? Indefinitely? If you are staying in Europe, I suggest heading up north in to the Balkan countries if you really want to stretch your budget. And if you want to stretch it even more I suggest the eastern European countries of Poland, Ukraine, Hungary, Romania etc. Eastern Europe is such a beautiful place, and the women are just... wow.But it is just so cheap, maybe even cheaper than SE Asia. You need t go to Krakow and Budapest.
I'm seriously thinking of heading in that direction, i.e. from Greece to Albania, Macedonia, Croatia, Slovenia, and who knows where else. That area sounds really cool. But not certain, my traveling is completely open-ended and I'm feeling somewhat like heading back to the U.S. before the summer is over. For now just enjoying Greece and then in a couple weeks will start thinking more seriously about where I'll go next.
Lpool FC Yeah, a little actually. And I have a truck waiting for me (my brother gave me his old pickup) that I can go road-tripping in, so that would be cool exploring for summertime. Here's the truck if you're curious: ua-cam.com/video/Vw1285zRmSY/v-deo.html
Wow you are on a budget of $30 and still giving tips? respect man.
Looks like you had the same amount of fun on $30 that anyone else would have had with more money. Just gotta be creative, which you are. That dinner looked amazing! Great video
You met budget and had an awesome looking meal. Solid stuff brother.
One thing I do is bring PEANUT BUTTER around with me when I need a snack. Saves money, a spoonful tastes delicious, kills your hunger, and is actually pretty healthy compared to most snacky food. Lovely video as always Gabe.
Exactly, that's a good one. I have a bag of peanuts but not as good as peanut butter.
no peanut butter in greece only taxini
jothegreek
What's taxini? Oh I think you mean tahini.
*****
who makes taht peanutbutter ?
True Mexico does your dog like peanut butter.
I just love the Indigo Blue water of the Mediterranean
Totally.
bicycling is the best way to travel. you should do a bike tour of europe and camp . that would be epic!
here's tip for anybody coming to Rhodes Manny communitys have free host rooms!! some charge peanuts. Some big monasterys also have guests rooms. all welcomed!!
which monastery please? and how to find the hosting communities? is it only during low seasons? thanks
Hi Gabriel I know Im commenting on a old video just wanted to say I went travelling in 92 and stayed in Anna in Perissa Beach, or there was another hostel almost opposite I think (?).It was 450 drachmas (about 1£ at the time!) Wow, that sounds super cool. I'll have to do that the next time I return to Santorini.
I love your videos please continue doing amazing work for those of us who love to see the world and don't require luxury accommodations
Please contribute money to help him continue to do exactly that!!
I was in Santorini last week. It must be one of the most expensive islands in greece, and that you made it on 27/day is very impressive!
i've been looking for a video like this with perfect clear information. no other video like it so i cannot imagine your book. new subscriber great video
Cool, glad to hear it. Also see this more recent video from Greece: ua-cam.com/video/oUvBGiW1jlA/v-deo.html

That's awesome Gabriel! Great video, very helpful, and good for you on making it on $30/day. That's a great tip about being able to bring your bicycle on the ferry for free. I will do the same and buy one in Athens.
Hitch hiking would freak me out!! Anyway, I'm a new sub, love all your vids so far, seriously amazing!! Can't stop watching!!

Please do more videos like this! I find them very informative. Maybe you can do one every time you travel to a new country? that would be amazing! Have a great day Gabriel

I loved this video Gabe! Thank you :)
Maybe I'll meet you one day and tell you how great you are in person!
Great, thank you Letitia, glad you enjoyed. :) You are from Greece?
No Mauritius!!
I see, very cool! Mauritius sounds nice.
Yes do it! You will love it!
My budget for Greece would probably be 60-70 €. Single rooms and more beer!
Ha ha, I hear you, that's definitely more typical. Also without a bicycle you'll spend more on transportation. Renting a motorbike is about 10 euros a day plus gas.
Linus Wärn you are rich man
I've learned a lot through that video, thanks! I'm planning a trip to Greece soon (Athens, Mykonos & Santorin), it will be helpful.
Sylvain Gingras-Demers , what’s the best and cheapest way to get to those islands from athen. ?

I love your videos. You have given me a lot of info about travelling on a budget
Excellent, thanks.
Btw before you got on the bus at Perissa and asked "Oia", the guy said "Fira Fira" :)
Thanks, yeah I understood that actually. He was saying that I had to go to Fira and then from there I could change and take another bus to Oia.
Thanks for sharing your experience. I also noticed that at your dinner's dish the fly comes for free!!!
Kudos for travelling to maybe the most expensive greek island and managing to spend under 30$ ! Except for cheap souvlaki places, local bakeries have usually a lot of cheap and freshly made things to eat for breakfast (cheesepies etc) which are super tasty.
The ultimate definition of a "Tourist Trap" There are so many more Greek Islands where you can get value for money and also a better ambiance.
True. Lots of amazing Greek islands to explore, many of which are barely on the tourist map.
Nice video. Some useful tips for our stay in Santorini soon. Thanks 👍👍
one of, if not, the most beautiful place in the world.
it is its own place
Wow - that place is beautiful!
hey thats my home country....going to mykonos in a month..at paradise beach guys..

Awesome!!! :) I can't wait to visit Santorini, Greece real soon! :)
Hey, how much was your bike? If you don't mind my asking.
Solace C.E. In one video he says he bought it for like 60 euros.
How much would you recommend to take per day for budget travelling around the rest of Europe, including Paris, Rome, Amsterdam, Budapest, Berlin, dubrovnik, etc?
In greek the word sunset translates to "the time when sun becomes king".
Sunset =η δύση του ηλίου
Wonderful video Gabriel! (except for the dead animal on your dinner plate...) Has it crossed your mind at all to become a bit or partly breathatarian...- that would possibly save some on food expenses.
Great video, enjoy Greece and stay safe from a greek born fellow Canuck.
Thanks. I'm flying back to Greece tomorrow.
As you probably know this the best time. Tourists are leaving and prices go down. My brother is leaving for Greece on sunday. Enjoy
