Imagine Elvis was worried that the people would not come to see him after 10 years away after making movies. The fans did not even have to pay to be there
Elvis was so nervous that he almost didn't do the 68 comback special. He had to be Given a real pep talk to get the courage to go out there. Once he got out there and was able to relax, Elvis made history once again. Elvis was actually very shy and somewhat insecure off stage for the most part.
The 1968 comeback was when Elvis had been away serving in the military. Meanwhile the Beatles were gaining popularity. Now Elvis discharged from the army, thus his comeback speacial.
I dont even think he was human. No human being can look like that or have that much mojo. He was some divine creation of pure talent and personna sent here, and as Tommy Lee Jones said, he didn't die, he just went home.....
Great video, thanks.
He hadn't sang on TV in 8 years and was nervous he didn't have it still.(lol) Meanwhile it was the most definitive live performance in music history. He IS the King!
How come one man make you smile and cry at the same time?
In a hundred years, if someone asks what was so special about Elvis, all they have to do is play this performance.
It’s often been said that not only was Elvis a much better singer live than on record, but he was even better looking in person than on film!
If Elvis was alive today. We all lose our women!!!!!!
FYI…The two guys backing him up were old friends that were his original band when he first started out. They almost didn’t come due to their contempt for Col. Parker, but finally agreed to play out of respect for Elvis. The idea for that spot came when the producer of the show found the three old friends in E’s dressing room jamming and telling stories of the “old days”…He had wanted to film them there, but Parker wouldn’t permit it🙄
The part was unscripted and Elvis was incredibly nervous about doing it. But, once they got onstage and started reminiscing…the music started flowing! Can you imagine, it was like being a fly on the wall to true music history….
No Mixing boards , No special effects, No Synthesizer, No auto tune, All Pure Charismatic Talent!
Elvis was a unique blend of looks, talent and charisma. There will never be another like him.
My uncle was in the army with Elvis, same barracks, said he was a really nice guy just wanted to be one of the guys. His manager sent him $1000 a month which he spent on all his buddies.
@@elevenbucks5682 You said that his manager would send "Elvis $1000 a month". But Parker (His manager) did not and NEVER controlled Elvis's personal finances. THAT was handled by his father Vernon. Vernon handled and over saw Elvis's personal finances. Parker received his cut and Elvis received HIS. It was like that from day one. And Elvis was a millionaire when he went into the Army.
AllI know is what Elvis told my uncle, may be lost in communication, what difference does it make anyway.@@warrendelay
Forgive me, but a far better reaction video with more insight and musical intuition: ua-cam.com/video/Rmks7JtFs7Q/v-deo.html
@@warrendelay Ok Warren, ya might wanna chill just a bit. I mean is it really *that* important now?
Anything in the black leather, click on it!😎🥰
The girl in the white sitting close to him is Patty Parry, one of his hairdressers and a good friend. She did his hair for the Aloha From Hawaii concert!❤❤❤❤
There is like 60 great live song in this show/consert. This was even bigger than man landed a moon in that time. Hard to belive.
The incredible thing about Elvis was that both women and men adored him. Extremely charasmatic person on and off the stage.
I know he didn't like being called the King
But he is
Cmon is there anyone cooler than Elvis ? The king !
What a men❤ he isss soooo good not normal.
Gr from Amsterdam
Awesome! Thank you for bringing it🎶👍
It's hard to believe, that just eight years later he would pass, the way he did based on this performance.
😎👍
Elvis went for many years to fulfill his obligation to do light style movies and left the performances. He was deathly afraid they had forgotten him and hence the 68 special was his comeback to the spotlight.
56 years later he is STILL 🔥 FIRE!
This is the only performance you'll see with him wearing the black leather outfit. He hated it. He said he about burnt up on stage, it was so hot. He swore he'd never wear black leather on stage again and if you check out all of his subsequent performances, you'll see that he didn't.
I think the only people my mom loved more than Elvis were my dad and Jesus. I have her old records of his, albums included. I think she had them all. My dad took her to Graceland every year while on vacation. My dad doted on mom and tried to always please her. The last two years of his life he retired and tried to take her everywhere she had ever said she wanted to go. He passed of liver cancer in 1993 and from then until June 6 2014 when my mom passed, not a day passed that she didn't mention how much she missed him. I know I'll see them both again when I get to heaven. Hoping Elvis might be there too. He was troubled but, he was also a very spiritual man so, he may very well be there.
I suggest y'all check out my mom's favorite Elvis song, "His Hand In Mine."
This song and the way Elvis performed it with most of his original group... my oh my they rocked it. I first heard this song in 1976 at only 6 years old. And STILL remember how good it sounded. Sadly, a year later he passed away.😢
Love your channel and you must realize by now, after seeing how many genres Elvis can sing Majestically in, that is the true GOAT as to being a vocalist!!!
I haven't even watched the new Elvis movie, because I've been a fan since 1955, and I'm pretty sure I already know everything there is to know. The Elvis movie was more for newbies that don't know much about Elvis. I don't even like Elvis tribute stars. Been to Graceland 4 times. I always enjoy the real deal all the time, anywhere, anytime with 600+ mp3 Elvis songs on my cellphone or in my 13X17 Elvis room on my lower level of my house. Tons of albums, tons of cds, tons of dvds, tons of collectibles filling shelves and on the walls.
You have to see the movie! I have been an Elvis fan for 58 years and saw him twice in concert. I thought the movie was fantastic. I saw it 5 times in theater. I never do that. The cinematography, costumes, makeup were startling good. The actor playing Elvis did such a good job. It is 90% about his career. Not his personal relationships. The colonel acts as the narrator. Watching it is like being on a roller coaster. Not a typical biopic.real footage of Elvis is cut into montages of concert footage.
An Elvis room. So cool. Since the Elvis movie, I have bought so many FTD albums. I was able to get one that is the actual recording of one of the concerts I was at. I’m going to need an Elvis room soon. TCB.
See Elvis even got himself excited, jumping out of his own chair..So if can't maintain himself, how can we possibly?? One n only, they'll never be another..Love this guy.. Thanks for your reaction..
I remember watching the 68 comeback special with my daddy. Nothing better ❤️
😲😲😲 Strong strong você my god !!!
i am that old that i remember watching this on TV in 1968 (i was 11) - the show was amazing start to finish - my whole family big Elvis fans and always will be
Elvis, commonly referred to as the '68 Comeback Special, is an Elvis Presley concert special that aired on NBC on December 3, 1968. It marked Presley's return to live performance after a seven-year period during which he focused on his film appearances.
I was lucky enough to belong to the generation that saw this in the real time what an unforgettable man and artist nothing compares
Nobody Better
Nobody
Elvis can never be touched
He'll be the King
Number one Forever
He could do it All
And did
One of a kind for Eternity
❤❤❤❤ My favorite ❤❤
Everything from the 68 Special is gold.
I’m fifty nine in my life there is no one that even comes close to Elvis and it is because he had the whole enchilada the voice the heart compassion and generosity he gave so much example do you know that if it wasn’t for Elvis the Pearl Harbor monument would not have been completed donated benefit concert 1961 and donated it you should watch documentary a generous heart and the echo will never die. No other artist can compare
He needed to MOVE to that music!❤❤❤
The only Goat! the whole package! Thank for keep him alive! Please do more!
Elvis said many times he rather play music like in this jam session than on stage. He didn't like the fame.
This part of the show was what inspired MTVs Unplugged.
Wow…… just WOW!
One of the only artist who not only matched his studio recordings live but often surpassed it
Totally agree! I love his live versions better, cus he sounds great and really adds a special spice to it!!❤
Absolutely agree!
No one of ...... But the only one ......
Not to offend anyone, but Elvis was a muthafuckin' badass!
@@rong805 you got that right!!!🔥🔥
Oh no , that damned black leather suit again ... no sleep for me tonight ... takes me days to get that image out of my mind LOL ! TCB forever !
Fun fact : The guy supporting Elvis playing Tambourine sitting on the side of the stage ( black shirt ) is Lance Le Gault, who went on to star as Col. Decker in " The A Team ", he was the Army Colonel who was always trying to catch them ...
I’m 62 and was lucky enough to see Elvis perform live in 1974, 1975, and 1976.
At 12 years old. You are lucky!
you just had to live in that time from 1st grade 55 til he passed in 77 his voice was always on the radio i was married and had 2 children it was like he was apart of your family all the girls and guys loved Elvis my mother was the same age as Elvis she liked him too it was great living in that time I liked all the music in the 50's 60's 70's it was great.....
This is where talent meets charisma = star power. Put it in an all-leather suit and you get the essence of what made Elvis uniquely popular.
Well said.
Never again!
The most complete package ever assembled!
Your mom was right all along…go deeper still…more.more more
Elvis was trying to regain his former glory when he came back from his army stint. This was his reintroduction to his fans. They actually had to go out to the streets to round up an audience. Needless to say this re-launched his career!
He came out of the army in 1960, 8 years before this.

Bingo
Elvis was and is and always be the King! Love your reactions!
No auto tune or over dubbing here, just the reality of Elvis - what you see is what you got
He is sorely missed every year!
He will never happen again, ever
Elvis Presley was a series of performances over the 1968 period. His comeback after being in the US army, it was in the USA army Elvis got into prescription drugs. Elvis was trying to bring back his early days live performances.
Elvis looked as good as he sang. I saw him four times. We were in Hawaii when he
performed. He was staying at the same hotel. Very nice,
Also, you guys should check out Elvis and the Black Community, Elvis Presley generous heart, Elvis Presley king of kindness and of course countless other songs etc.
My mom LOVED Elvis! She was orphaned by the time she was 5 & grew up living with different family members (depending on who had room for her). There was rarely extra money for fun stuff. She worked as a waitress part time after school when she turned 16: the manager of the movie theater next door would come over every afternoon for his coffee break. He would leave her movie tokens for her tip, so she was able to go see all the Elvis movies! She would stay & watch them over & over…
My dad took us to see Elvis in concert when I was 7. I’ll always remember!!
Elvis close to his fans? Wait for "Love Me Tender".
This one is my favorite! I laugh too he just makes you smile and laugh! I'm addicted to watching Elvis, he's my stress releif!
اعظم فنان على مر العصور لم ولن يتكرر الملك بدون منازع
To continue finding out about Elvis Presley, look into Elvis, a generous heart. King of kindness, Elvis and the black community....many Gospel songs, and the fact that he's on a short list of singers that have been inducted into numerous Halls of Fame!!
Actually, 23 halls of fame, but not all are related to music.
he is the only artist in the world to have had 23 Halls of Fame
Back to live from years of movies
Oh, and this part of the special was a set featuring songs from his early years, hence just a few guts and him performing stripped down.
Elvis was truly the King...
That's why Elvis is the King baby, thank you very much.
Elvis was so good in concert that people would stay at the venue after the performance hoping for an encore until they’d famously announce “Elvis has left the building”.
This is where MTV in the round came from
That's why he was the king ! ✌️❤️🇨🇦
Wow! Fabulous Elvis. Never tire of his music. He is still loved worldwide and will never be forgotten. 👍⚡🥇🎧🎙(🇿🇦)
I've watched this performance countless times, and I'm still sitting here fanning myself. He was by far the sexiest man in every way. 😍
Yes!!!❤❤❤❤❤
Agree!!
Elvis started in fairs and on stage, then he was drafted. He did a few movies before the Army, but after the army it was all movies. Then in 68 on live TV he did a concert that said good-bye to movies, and he went back on tour. Once he was touring, that brought out the white leather.
Elvis is so so special unique the whole package. ❤and handsome.
The 68 comeback was his “comeback “ after making movies.
I think my favorite Elvis story is when he met Steve Martin. It's interesting because it was Elvis who went to visit Steve instead of the other way around. o
He told Steve, " Young man, you have an oblique sense of humor". 😂😂😂❤
@@jennyjorgensen9935 I had to look up oblique after seeing that interview 🥰
Comeback special was going back to his music and performing for his fans at concerts where his live truly was. Elvis was in contract doing movies was not able to get out until after contract ended. After went back to his love of music and performing live again.
Elvis was and will always be the best
Finally people that see the talent in his vocals ability.
Pure entertainment he was, awesome cool song from him, good review 👍😎👍🎸
This was a tv special with numerous settings.....was 2 hours long. This was set as a jam session with a round stage in the middle of the audience with the fans surrounding them all. It was called Elvis , was later dubbed The Comeback Special because Elvis spent most of the 60's in Hollywood making movies. He got so discusseted with the scripts that as soon as he fulfilled his contract he left and started touring and doing his Vegas residencies pretty much immediately.
It became known as the '68 Come Back Special because it was his first live performance since his service in the Army. While he was gone the Beatles and the whole British invasion changed the vibe of rock-n-roll music and Elvis wasn't sure his fans would still be with him because he'd been away from the scene for so long. The songs he sang (including this one) during this "sit down" portion of the special were his old hits from his early years and, in my opinion (as an Elvis fan since his beginnings in the 50's) he pulled them off even more powerfully than he did in his original recordings. If you watch Baz Luhrmann's 1922 epic biopic, "ELVIS", you'll get the background on the heated behind-the-scenes drama that was unfolding during the production of this historic TV special.
I’m 63 years old and I seen Elvis in concert in 1976. I’ve been to Graceland 7 times. I’ve been diehard fan since I was 7 in 1968.
Wow if anyone can match that I would like to see it!!! Jackson,Mercury, beatles, sinatra, etc all very very good/talented. In my opinion Elvis Presley another leauge above.
The King!
Elvis has been dead for 45 years and still has an unprecedented effect on women who are seeing him perform for the first time. There is not a single male performer alive today who can come close to competing with the talent and sexuality this man exudes when he performs. Women of all ages seem to find him just as irresistible now as they did almost 70 years ago! He truly is a phenomenon the likes of which will most likely never be seen again. There are cheap imitators but no one with his talent, heart and soul!
THEY ARE CALLED HIS BACK UP SINGERS
When Elvis sang he had the audience in the palm of his hand.
One ofthe only times you ever see Elvis sing and play elecrtric guitar
No comment about the guitar? Killed it.
Just Elvis and some friends in a circle. This special really showcased his charisma and talent.
This 68 comeback special was the result of Elvis having been out of the limelight since the late 50's early 60's. Elvis was in the Army for a couple of years , then he was contracted to do a series of movies which took away much of his creative musical talents that made him so popular in the 50's. While this was happening, the Beatles, Rolling Stones and the rest of the British invasion happened further pushing stars like him and Ricky Nelson out of the minds of young music fans. So Elvis put together this comeback special to reintroduce himself to the newer generation of music fans.
I’d have tipped his chair backwards and taken my one chance at him if I’d been that close to Elvis. But alas, I wasn’t even born yet! 😊❤
Me too!! Same I was only 1😢.
68 come back .after he came back from the service he started doing movies and other thangs, then the beatles came out and they were beating him in the charts,68 comeback was a two hour live show,it was shown all over the world
The ultimate entertainer
🎉Elvis had been in the army. And didn't know how the fans would like him
Check out a video called “I sang with him”. The Sweet Inspirations honestly believed that Elvis was an Angel…I know, but check it out. There were other divine things that Elvis was associated with. I believe it and I’m an atheist. Bottom line…Elvis was, no doubt, a good man.
Elvis with the Unplugged before the 1990s MTV Unplugged ever came around
Guardiamo e ascoltiamo anche "Fever"?❤😊ciao carissimi ragazzi...
The 1968 comeback special was a TV special filmed in front of a fairly small audience. Elvis never looked or sounded better, and I'm not even a huge fan, although later in life I have come to appreciate his voice, stage presents and charisma.
The first unplugged setting
Elvis’s comeback performance in 1968; returning from Vietnam War!
The 68 comeback special wasn't a single show. It was more like a full multi set program. This was the jam session part where elvis sang his early songs with his band in a layback environment. There was also a stand up segment where he was alone on stage standing up to the audience and rocking it out. A gospel section where he showed his gospel roots in an 8 minutes monster moment. A tribute to his movie careers with some different sets similar to his films where he sang and acted at the same time And the if I can dream song was the closure
Full-time showman!
Saw it live
Lucky you❤
