The Sámi are indigenous people here in northern Scandinavia (and northwestern Russia). 🙂 Sami is one of the official languages in Norway, Sweden and Finland today.
After watching this, I'm very glad how respectful the movie was with regards to the Sámi, definitely the best representation of us in media in recent years. Certainly helps that the movie is also all in all excellent, not just in this aspect. As a Sámi myself and hearing there's going to be a christmas movie having Sámi representation, I first had very complicated feelings about it. Being an arctic people living in Lapland (northernmost parts of Finland, Sweden and Norway) the tourism business has since at least the 70's been exploiting our culture - especially the booming christmas tourism. The industry created a narrative for tourists that our people have very close ties to Santa, being "his little helpers" since our colorful traditional garb can be interpreted as christmas-y. The implication of that was that our people was also fictious (basically elfs), which in turn turned to open season for everyone to mimic and mis-interpret our culture to fit their own narratives (I'm looking at you, new-age shamanistic spiritualists making a mockery of our traditions and mythology). It kinda snowballed from there. It's better nowadays, but I've still met people (not just tourists but also Finns and Swedes) who think the Sámi are just a story like Santa. Or a dead culture lost to time, and are very surprised to learn we still have a living, breathing culture alive today.
I only learned about the Sámi because of this movie and was pleasantly surprised to find out that they are real life. I’m not great on geography or anything but it’s pretty cool discovering a new culture and people through movies :D
I also only learned about about Samis through this video and was surprised to figure out that the ‘elves’ might’ve been real people with their own culture and not just a fictional thing made up to visualise movies. I’m glad you guys are still alive and intact, honestly I would like to know more about Sami culture.
Fun fact: Sergio Pablos, the creator and director of the movie, was an old disney animator that work in a feel films like Hunchback of Notre Dame and Hercules. He was also the character animator of Tantor the elephant from Tarzan and Dr. Dopler from Treasure Planet (you can even recognize on Jesper's shock and scared faces that remind of Dr. Dopler)
50:36 About the ghost thingy, in theory, Santa has always being dead, “Santa” comes from “Saint” and you can’t be a saint if you are not dead, in Christianity people can only get officially declared saints after dying, the tradition of Santa Claus (not the Klaus from this movie, I mean the traditional Santa Claus that we know) is based on Saint Nicholas of Myra, a Christian Bishop who had an habit of secretly giving gifts, so yeah, Santa has always being a spirit if you think about it, haha I love this movie so much, it is my new favorite Christmas movie ever since the moment I first watched it, I always end up crying tho 😅
Klaus has become my favourite christmas movie. It's so hearthwarming, clever and a masterpiece for the style (I would see series and movies with that). I now see it every christmas as a tradition (also with Elf, Polar Express, Fred Claus and Arthur Christmas, this last a true comedy and I suggest it for the next year)

I was waiting for you guys to watch this! Interesting fact: this movie lost in the Acadamy Awards, to Toy Story 4. Most people believe it's because this was never a theatre movie, it just went straight to Netflix. And it was up against Disney.
thank you for reacting to this this is one of my favorite christmas movies ever, very underrated for me I hope more people would watch it and the animation is just amazing
I'm brazilian, and I don't remember ever writing to Santa, but in my family, we spent Christmas at my grandparents' house since the 80's (when most of the grandchildren were born) and at midnight one of my uncles or my father (mostly my father) dressed as Santa and appeared to give out all the presents to everyone (not only the kids), I'm a woman and when I was a teen, I even became Santa one year because at the time there were no kids anymore, so it was just for the laughs (my aunt was pregnant at the time and I almost made her piss her pants with laughter - which wouldn't be hard, cause, pregnant LOL). My grandparents passed away in 2020 and 2022 and now everyone spends christmas at other places, but my father still dresses as Santa to go to my cousin's house and give out presents to my cousin's children!
This movie is definitely the new all time classic that will stand the test of time. It doesn't try to play too much into the magical aspect of Santa, and told a realistic story (for a cartoon) of the origin of the Santa mythos, of how a myth form over time and through rumors. Even the ending doesn't explicitly say "And he ascend to become actual Santa." The film respect the audience enough to let them make their own conclusion as to whether the magic is real or that it simply live on in the heart and mind of others.
I saw this movie, I think around the time it was released and not that I forgot it was excellent or anything, but I had really forgotten how - I don't know, magical it felt. Your reaction made me really want to watch the movie again! I also loved how they established that larger-than-life quality to Klaus in this story; he’s someone who won’t be easy pickings for this crazy, war, blood-feuding town and I just loved how even the dogs were like - “nope not going to mess with him;” because once he warmed up - that larger-than-life quality remained, but in the more traditional Santa Claus way it has existed before. It was just, well-done storytelling.
It's set in Norway, according to the makers, which explains the Royal mail, Sami people, whaling and Smeerenburg (a historical whaling town in Norway's Svalbard archipelago).
I was just hanging out at a friend's place, when they turned this show on. I had no idea what it was, but fell in love with it! It's definitely become one of my favorite Christmas movies ever!! ❤️ It always gets me when they fill in the tree with all the figures, becoming his family 🥲
This is honestly one of my favourite Christmas movies. I don't normally cry over shows/movies but this one gets me everytime I watch it. Even just this video got me tearing up!
This is my favorite Christmas movie, and one of my favorite animated movies of all time. It's very beautifully animated and such a well-rounded and well-written stories.
the film is majority 2d with some 3d elements like sleighs and buildings, the 3d lighting effects were achieved using an interpolation software called "Klaus Light and Shadow" created for the film. here's an example of the animation before and after applying the software the director said they wanted to mimic the style of original Disney cartoons to create a nostalgic feel
I love this movie... every time I watch it, it makes me tear up. Even when I'm just watching a reaction... even one that I'm watching after _another_ reaction to Klaus, which _also_ made me tear up. The part that hits me the hardest is right at the end when it says, "All I know is that once every year, I get to see my friend." I also love that the matriarch of the Krum family was the villain from Adams Family Values XD
If I remember right, this was Norm MacDonald’s last role. Outside of that sad fact, what a fun, beautiful, and cozy Christmas movie to watch every year.
I barely remember seeing this on netflix advertised when it came out and never got to it but man i am SO GLAD you guys checked it out bc i LOVED this movie so much! Teared up multiple times lol Deff one of my new favorite xmas movies! I was so surprised.
Easily my favorite Christmas movie. The animation is gorgeous, the story is so heartwarming that it gives 3rd degree burns, and the message about selfless acts leading to a better community is something that the holiday season *should* be about.

If u were wondering, the Sami r one of the many real indigenous groups of Scandinavia, their culture revolves around reindeer even having multiple reindeer deities, they were most likely the first people to ever domesticate reindeer
So glad you guys reacted to this! It remains one of the best-animated movies for me and I always get so emotional watching it. From the graphics to the story to the music, everything in this movie is just amazing!
I always manage to keep it together for the entire film, but Jesper's delivery of the very last line makes me burst into tears.
this is easily one of my favorite new christmas films and has been added to my list of holiday films to watch every year.
This came out the winter I finally got Netflix (mainly to watch the Witcher) and was the second thing I watched on the platform, I loved it so much it has replaced any other film as my go to Christmas movie! It’s so good!
after i watched this i try to watch it every year
I first watched this movie a few years ago, and I already consider it a classic. It's quickly becoming my favourite Christmas movie each time I watch it every year.
I'm so happy you finally watched it! It's my favorite Christmas movie, I cry every single time I watch it, not kidding. I actually cried watching the reaction.
I was waiting for you guys to watch this!
Interesting fact: this movie lost in the Acadamy Awards, to Toy Story 4. Most people believe it's because this was never a theatre movie, it just went straight to Netflix. And it was up against Disney.
The director of Klaus was also an animator for treasure planet. You can actually see the references from jesper's appearance to margu's sled.
4:45 RIP Norm McDonald 🙏✝️
Normie lives on in this beautiful film and his comedy!!
thank you for reacting to this this is one of my favorite christmas movies ever, very underrated for me I hope more people would watch it and the animation is just amazing
I'm always on the watch for more reactors giving this a chance. It deserves so much more attention.
I am so glad you reacted to this. One of my favourite animated movies and definitely my favourite holiday movie.
this movie is a masterpiece
This is my favorite Christmas movie!!!!! So glad you decided to react to it 😆
I was just hanging out at a friend's place, when they turned this show on.
It´s a hidden gem, loved it
i’ve watched this movie SO many tomes and i still cry my eyes out,, so happy you guys got to experience it!
This is my favorite Christmas movie, and one of my favorite animated movies of all time. It's very beautifully animated and such a well-rounded and well-written stories.
Thank you for watching this, easily one of my favorite movies of all time. I cry EVERY time I watch it.
This movie is sooo beautiful and i cry everytime i watch it. Everyone needs to watch it.
This movie is so good, I am glad you reacted to it. One of my favorite Christmas movies.
You handled the ending much better than I did. It totally wrecked me.
Fun fact: Pumpkin is voiced by the movie director!
the film is majority 2d with some 3d elements like sleighs and buildings, the 3d lighting effects were achieved using an interpolation software called "Klaus Light and Shadow" created for the film.
here's an example of the animation before and after applying the software
the director said they wanted to mimic the style of original Disney cartoons to create a nostalgic feel
I love this movie... every time I watch it, it makes me tear up. Even when I'm just watching a reaction... even one that I'm watching after _another_ reaction to Klaus, which _also_ made me tear up. The part that hits me the hardest is right at the end when it says, "All I know is that once every year, I get to see my friend."
I also love that the matriarch of the Krum family was the villain from Adams Family Values XD
Such a great movie! The video of the team reacting to the Oscar nomination is so wholesome too!
If I remember right, this was Norm MacDonald’s last role. Outside of that sad fact, what a fun, beautiful, and cozy Christmas movie to watch every year.
The Sami is a real people, they are natives of Norway, Finland and other northern countries.
They might still know them only as Laplanders, if I have to guess.
I barely remember seeing this on netflix advertised when it came out and never got to it but man i am SO GLAD you guys checked it out bc i LOVED this movie so much! Teared up multiple times lol Deff one of my new favorite xmas movies! I was so surprised.
I'm so happy you guys reacted to this. its a hidden gem that I always recomend to everyone I can, I love it so much.
Easily my favorite Christmas movie. The animation is gorgeous, the story is so heartwarming that it gives 3rd degree burns, and the message about selfless acts leading to a better community is something that the holiday season *should* be about.
If you like the art style, check out Pascal Campion. He helped Sergio Pablos with the pitch book and influenced the art direction. His drawings/paintings have the same feel as the movie.
This is my absolute favorite Christmas movie. I'm so glad you watched and enjoyed it!
Fun fact, John Goodman DID play santa in the Goodtimes Entertainment version of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer!
Hope will get around to watching Violent Night at some point. Either around this time even though it’s past Christmas or by next Christmas
