The little Saami girl, Margu, is actually speaking Saami. Some of her lines are pretty funny because she _absolutely_ can understand English, she just can't speak it.
For instance, when Jesper starts saying 'I feel like such a... I behaved like a...' she finishes his sentence with '...a dummy head?'.
The second time they meet, he happens to say something that sounds like an answer to her question, and she gets excited and says 'really? You'll help me get a toy?' And then responds with what is to her a non-sequitur, to which she says '...I don't think you understand me at all...'
When she is running up the dock, she really is yelling "Jesper! Don't leave, Jesper!"
You can find versions of her scenes with translated subtitles for her. You will NOT regret it... she'll be all the cuter to you if you do!

      @drdewott9154 Місяць тому +11

True. I actually didnt know there was a real place named Smeerenburg but the fact its on Svalbard makes perfect sense! The whole setting and the people in the movie with everything from location designs to the names and cultures all seems very Scandinavian coded, especially Norway. And across the Nordics there are several different myths for where Santa claus has his workshop. The Danes say its on Greenland in the inland ice sheets, Finland says its up in remote areas of Lapland. Of course in North America they say its on the North pole. But having it be essentially in Svalbard is like a genius compromise across them all.

@@senritsujumpsuit6021 Actually its not 3D at all surprisingly. Its an extremely advanced and detailed version of 2D animation with tonnes of shades and highlights. The movie was animated by an animation house in Spain run by Sergio Pablos, a former 2D disney animator who worked at Disney during the 1990's as one of their premier animators in their Renaissance years. But Pablos always felt 2D animation had potential to grow far beyond what DIsney was doing by the time they stopped doing 2D animation in the 2000's.
Afaik this movie has been Sergio Pablos only full length feature from his own studio, and essentially a passion project of his. I know that the studio has a youtube channel where you can find several animation tests and breakdowns of them, how each individual layer was done from sketches all the way to textures and highlights.

I'm fairly certain that one of the main people who worked on Treasure Planet did this movie. You can really tell from some of the posing and mannerisms if different characters.

Yup. Sergio Pablos, the owner of the studio that made this, SPA Studios, is a former Disney Animator who afaik was the lead animator on Treasure planet. As well as doing big work on other Disney movies around this time like Tarzan, Hercules, and the Hunchback of Notre Dame.

Oh yeah, this is a modern classic. Love it. I know it aint that old yet but I have watched it every year on christmas since it came out.

  • @does-it-really-matter-who-am-I

This movie is a masterpiece. How visually stunning it looks, how inspiring it sounds, how it develops, how it feels in so many moments... In the end, you just look back to the story you watched and cry from nowhere, because it was good. The movie I would recommend anyone to watch.
Ps. Nothing against TOY STORY 4, but Klaus should have won the 2020 Oscar for Best Animation.

I did honestly think Jesper was going to end up becoming Santa Claus at the end. Especially after Klaus taught him how to make the toys and he grew a mustache of his own.

Ho Ho Ho 🎅 Merry Christmas 🎄 Movie
    - Instead of being from a riches Jesper was originally going to be a poor chimney sweep
    - Fun fact this isn’t J.K. Simmons first time playing Klaus in fact he worked as a mall Santa when he was pursuing a career in acting
    - After they crash the sleigh you can see “A113” on a create as in the same Easter Egg in Pixar Movies
    - The Sami girl Margu is voiced by Neda Margrethe Labba did not speak any English so the director Sergio Pablos traveled all the way to Tormsø, Norway to where she lives to do her recording

    21:35 Yeah, you basicly right.
Origins of Santa Claus are quite simple, actiualy:
As far as I remeber, old man, that in time became known as Saint Nicolas took pity on poor family that wasn't able to by any food on Cristmas(not even talking about selebration diner), which is most importaint holyday for christians. He secretly gave them his money.
Google it. I haven't read this story in ages, so I might be forgetting some details

I've really been enjoying your LotR reactions, and previously the only movie reactions I've ever really watched are LotR. But _Klaus_ is my favourite Christmas movie that takes itself seriously (because my other favourite Christmas movie - one that DOESN'T take itself seriously - is obviously _Die Hard_ lol) so I randomly wondered if anybody had reacted to it. And lo and behold! Here was a reaction from a channel I already knew I loved.
Ant it's because you guys are just so damn wholesome! Whether LotR or some scandalously underappreciated Christmas movie, you lot are not afraid to feel the Big Feels but also not make a big deal out of it either way. Thanks so much, and happy holidays, guys!
(P.S. I convinced some friends to watch _Klaus_ in the past by describing it as _The Nightmare Before Christmas_ meets _The Emperor's New Groove_ so it's really funny to see you make those exact same references!)

YES!!! Arthur Christmas is not just my favorite Christmas movie, it is my favorite movie, PERIOD. There is so much more to it than just a funny kids movie. So many messages about family dynamics and how you treat people affecting how they see themselves. I watch it whenever I'm having a bad day. 🩷💛💙

I love this movie, my one and only complaint is that Alva and Klaus must have made the fake toy plan before learning of the real reason why Jesper was there so it’s weird he didn’t also know.

In posr sovetian countries santa claus (or дед мороз, which translates as grampa Freeze) is not accompanied by elves, but rather Lapplandans, people from Lappland, and that his residence is somewhere in Finnland
So this tribe is actually dressed in clothes that is similar to Finnlands national clothing
