7th December 2019, Wales Comic Con, Telford.
The actor aging got solved with Matt Smith, his doctor literally dies of old age which means that he can come back at any time during his own lifetime and it still would make sense.
It got solved back in the Children in Need Special "Time Crash" where the 10th Doctor met the 5th. Sometimes the Doctors being together makes one older or wibbly wobbly timey wimey.
I've always thought that since 11 spent all those years on trenzalore

Tom Baker didn't return for the 20th anniversary because he felt it was too soon after he had left. He has since said he regrets not doing it.
But they did get him for the 50th.

If Doctor Who wasn't cancelled in 1989, he could've come back for the 30th. "Dimensions in Time" doesn't count, I'm thinking of "Lost in the Dark Dimension" which wasn't made.
I get the sense that Matt doesn’t know if he’d come back for an anniversary special, and hearing Tennant talk about why he decided to do the 50th and how sad it made him as a kid when Baker didn’t return for The Five Doctors... well, I think hearing that story kinda made Matt feel guilty and uncomfortable. That’s just the sense I get though.
Yeah, I think if David hadn't said that, Matt would've said something like wanting to move on from Doctor Who and trying to do more with his career. After David's heartfelt response, saying that would be pretty cold.
Also, it's all very well and good asking the question, but there's more to it than that, so many more variables. Will there be a special, will they be asked, will the script be enticing for them etc?
As fans, we all want to know, but I imagine it's actually a difficult decision for the actors to make.
@@moviefella9206 Quick update: I've just watched a "Virtual Pub Quiz" all about Doctor Who with special guest hosts Billie Piper and Matt Smith. It was brilliant and here's something encouraging: Matt Smith said they should get them all back for a 60th, including him. He also made a point of how much he misses the show.
Maybe at the time of this con he was more unsure but he certainly seems more willing now!

@@TheHobatron The 60th anniversary will take place almost 20 years after the reboot, so we have plenty of people and elements to do one massive thing.
Not only we DID get David back for the 60th, but also he's back in a way that we could always expect him to pop up any time and it would make sense without having to witness a nerveracking explanation for it to be possible. He's just there, with his own TARDIS, ready to have an adventure at any point and it's just brilliant.
I can't see how they could bring back Ten again, giving that Tennant is already showing his age (beautifully so), but I'm most certain that he will show up for the 70th at least, one way or the other, as Fourteen. What they could do, if they want to, is bring back Rose and Metacrisis Ten, as they would have aged since the last time we saw them and it would be so heartwarming to have them back for just one more run after all this time. At least for a tiny little adventure for old times' sake.
I hope for 60th we can get Matt, David, and Peter together.

Peter has said that his time is done, but I'm sure that if it services the story in a fun way - he'd probably do it.
Funny how David said "what if the guy running the show hates us" and now we know the 60th will be written by Russell T. Davies himself.

I don’t think they’ll say no for the 60th. But it’s not a given we’ll get a special for that or that it’s gonna be a big multi-Doctor episode.
Sadly, it's not a given, that's true. It depends on the state of the show or the story itself... if Chibnall stays after the third year (which he intends to), the 60th could be a thing due to the pressure for some extra enthusiasm, but it also depends on which actors return and what the story will be about. I'm hoping for the best because I love the anniversaries.
I think they will definitely do a 60th as for a 70th however David might say no but Matt would probably come for a 70th.
@@julianmarrison1848 I think Chibnall will stay for his 5 year plan, for sure. The 60th will be a nerve wrack to write for, but it's completely worth it. I hope David returns for a 60th or even a 70th since age doesn't really matter all that much. I really hope Matt, Peter and Jodie will also join in. The more the merrier! Just the opportunity for great banter alone is worth the special occasion. I know Peter has been hesitant too, but I hope he doesn't go 4th Doctor on this as we already have Chris's absence to account for. We never know if we have another chance at getting some of these Doctors together in an anniversary.
@Remy Indeed, and I'm aware he has been a tough nut to crack even for the Big Finish audios, but he also never said "no" either, at least not explicitly, so there's still some hope he can change his mind over time. I agree with Peter in a lot of things (and we both share the same niche taste for the Web Planet), but I disagree with him on that. I always thought the anniversaries were mostly intended for fun and allow the new Doctor to get better acquainted with the legacy. Sure, people will get distracted by old Doctors, but imho there's no better way to actually see the new Doctor than to remember who it was. As 11th once said: "you gotta keep moving, as long as you remember all the people that you used to be".

It must be awkward for them. Obviously, they're fans of the show and like interacting with fans, but at the same time they don't want to see needy or desperate to come back as that might affect their careers a bit. David seems more open to returning than Matt does, and I totally see why Matt is dubious about returning, seeing as it isn't really his show anymore, like his time has passed and he's moved on. But I get the sense that hearing David talk about how when he was a kid and having most of the Doctors return for the 20th Anniversary was the most exciting thing might have got him thinking a little bit. Perhaps Matt just needs to be swayed and smooth-talked a bit more. But at the same time, they're right, it's not their place to say whether they should return as it isn't their show anymore.
Also those kind of talk shows and conventions are exhausting, and I could really see Matt be quite tired at that moment lol
I actually think it's the opposite reason why Matt is reluctant in a way...he has moved on but have the general public? Tennant is now associated with so many other great shows that returning to any including DW feels comfortable for him, what other than DW do you associate Matt with? Terminator Genysis springs to mind...and was mostly awful, The Crown? Maybe...but nothing really in the same way he is associated with Doctor Who. I think he may feel that returning before he has found that distance from the role will just solidify the association in the publics heads...just a thought
Well I think what also made it weird is they didn't want to put whoever was in charge of the special (now we know it's RTD but then we didn't) in an awkward position because at the end of the day it's up to whoever creates the story and pitches it and what not whether or not there is actual room for them in the script. So if they all go gun ho and say that we'd love to come back and definitely 100% are ready, well then if they're not brought back RTD would get a ton of hate by not doing that which means they will essentially force themselves onto the episode whether or not the script worked with it.
I agree - I really just think Matt has moved on and is hesitant to reclaim that role after the show has moved on. I think he's very conscious about overstaying his welcome. But I'm betting that if they're both asked and Tennant agrees to go back, then Matt will.
@@anniesmith5739 It still feels surreal that we are getting David as the 14th doctor for 3 specials. I’m reeeeeaalllyyy hoping somehow Matt would make a appearance at some point in any of them but considering the circumstances with him having other projects probably not

I’d like to think that if they’re like “hey it’s the big anniversary, what do you say you put on your suits, walk across the screen, say “allons-y” and “geromino,” wave and the leave” they’d say no to that. But I imagine if when the time comes they come up with a really cool script that brings them in and makes it worth their while, plus lets them pal around with 12 and 13 assuming they’ll do it, and whoever is the new doctor by then(and assuming Eccleston says yes to it but he definitely won’t) then I’d imagine they might say yes to doing it. Neither of them really needs the work, but it seems like they love the role, have fun with it, and all get along, so hopefully we’ll see something fun.
I mean recently Eccleston agreed to return to do audio books so baby steps I guess
So like the 50th basically. I imagine with RTD writing it he could find an inguintive way to bring them back, not detract from the overall story, while still displaying the intricacies of each doctor.

@@russellschwartz9687 that’s really cool. I’m not huge on the way Tenants doctor was written but I respect him as an actor a lot and Smith is tied for my fav doctor so that makes me very happy. I do hope they get Capaldi back tho that would really cap it all off.

David and Matt should be proud of their time on the program. They both left the program in a better place than they found it.
I would guess the only people who will stop David and Matt appearing in a 60th will be the guys themselves. I can certainly see David coming back ... not so sure about Matt. How can he ever top that scene with Tom Baker at the end of the 50th?
At this point, one must wonder if "Doctor Who" will make it to a 60th anniversary. If so, all available Doctors should be invited to at least pull a cameo, as Tom Baker did for the 50th and Paul McGann did for "Night of the Doctor". If Matt's worried about it, he can reprise the Curator if Tom can't make it.
Not to be the negative party because I too wish for what you have described, but I fear that Father Time might beat things to the punch, and we may sadly lose a couple of Doctors before the 60th. I'm not saying that'll happen anytime soon because nobody can tell the future.
But given the current ages of those such as Sylvester McCoy and Tom Baker himself, it does make me concerned for their health going forward.
I hope so. Next season will be out at the end of 2021 maybe early 2022 And Jodie whittaker will probably reincarnate and some 14th doctor will be brought on. If series 15 would be ordered by the BBC for 2022 the show will probably at least continue into 2023 (the anniversary year), they wouldn't kill it off right before such a big milestone right?
Assuming Tom Baker is still willing and able to act at that point we might have an episode that features 7 doctors!

Although Typing it out that sounds like a nightmare to write. You just cant have 7 main characters. So most of the doctors will have a small cameo like Tom Baker and Peter capaldi in 2013.
But hey maybe a duo of Jodie and the 14th? Or even 3? With Capaldi? He hasn't really featured in a doctor special yet.
Anyways I hope a new doctor and showrunner will be brought on for the 15th series because I feel like jodie and Chris chibnall don't quite get the numbers the BBC is looking for
It'll be cancelled soon due to low ratings, poor to abysmall plots, and the increasing competition from streaming services, much of which has a thousand times the budgets of Who. RTD had a golden opportunity which he exploited to perfection, he knew direct there was a market for Saturday programmes in a decade or so derth of any sci-fi and fantasy programmes. That's no longer our period. No one watches terrifiestial telly, the supposed group watch in front of the telly on Saturday has died a death. For sci fi and fantasy you are now utterly spoilt for choice, and crummy, hackneyed old BBC doctor who with its god awful plots, terrible actors and miniscule budgets just can't compete anymore. Sad but the BBC is being squeezed from all sides, politically from the tories, economically from everywhere else. It'll be chucked.

Remy / That standard length is not 4, not one doctor has had four seasons yet. The contract is for 5 because they plan ahead, they booked christipor Ecclestone for more but he only did one. I just doubt that Jodie will get to four seasons because we ratings are lower than the other doctors. Maybe 3 seasons.

Tom Baker was supposed to do the Gallifrey scenes and Peter Davison was supposed to follow Richard Hurndall's 1st Doctor around. Sarah Jane would have accompanied TB and Jo Grant was paired with Jon Pertwee but all that changed when TB declined to appear 😢😢😢

Doubt Eccleston could come back, though this could leave the door open for the 4 Doctors, or if they really wanted to the 9 Doctors.

I seriously doubt Eccleston would do it. As far as McGann, I'd love to see it myself, but I guess that would depend on what the showrunner at the time has planned. If he/she just wants New Who Doctors, then McGann wouldn't be asked to participate.

@@retnavybrat Paul would definitely do it if asked. He said he'd come back for the revival in 2005 if he had of been asked and he's done a lot of Dr Who audio since. As for Chris, he's stated he doesn't want to be known for that role only and he hasn't done any Dr Who audio so I reckon he'd turn that down. Capaldi would definitely do it since he's quite a fanboy of the series ever since he was a child.

The inside jokes were so spot on. I really want all those classic Doctors to return for an actual special (maybe for the 60th?), especially Colin and Syl (the only two remaining Doctors that never got another take at the role). Peter would be interesting (for the sake of a banter with 10th) and Paul would be nice too (since there's not enough televised material out there). After Tom's appearance in the 50th, I just doubt he'll come back. I don't know why, but I feel that was his final goodbye to the show with various unsolved mysteries left by him, but who "nose". I just hope most of them can come back, and tbh, I think Five, Six, Seven and Eight would benefit from a re-visitation (no put intended).

I want to know if he would return to the show as the next incarnation, not an aniversary. The show hasn't done any regenerations were they regen into a previous incarnation. If they did do that and I hope they do, it has to be Chris or David. Revive the show and have that shock back into the show, have the audiance gasping. Drops hints of the next Doctor but not reveal the actor.

I understand not wanting to come back as an actor especially when it’s already been done not so long ago. It was special with David and Matt because it happened a long while after the first time they had a past and present doctor appear. It would start to feel more repetitive if they did it again and not as special. I mean don’t get me wrong I feel as though this new writer would try it to bring more viewers since he hasn’t really done well so far, but I don’t think Matt would want to. Maybe he will for old time sake who knows, but I wouldn’t want to do so soon after they already did it not that long ago you know?

Yeah 🤔 I'm not that familiar with him, so not sure how he usually looks or acts. He seemed to have a good time, I think it appears worse on video than it felt live - maybe he was just tired after a long day or that's just how he looks when concentrating 🤔 or maybe he was just really bored 😬😅 people do tend to ask the same questions, afterall.
@@TytteBale Yeah, it's hard to say. Maybe it's just because David's panels are usually so much more lively. Matt does seem to cancel his appearances a lot, though.
@@daffy8995 Oh yes, that's very true, David is definitely less lively than he'd normally be, but guess it's just difficult to bounce around when he had to engage with Matt and the interviewer throughout rather than take questions from the audience - on the positive site it was slightly easier to record 😅 my video from last yeah was a complete mess as he moved around constantly! 😂
From what I've seen, Smith is uncomfortable in most interviews, where he looks nervous or simply distracted. Here he looks genuinely tired, like he might be jet-lagged. Maybe this is a combination of both? Add that he's been answering these questions for ten years now, AND in the video where they talk about regeneration he emotionally stumbled trying to put leaving into words, and I would even add that it's still fresh for him on some level. There are behind the scenes of Smith crying through read-through AND on the regeneration set. I think it's still emotional for him. But, I'm just guessing.
@@OzBaxter I kinda think Matt doesn't really like doing these things. It was a job. He has moved on (but they make really good money). Unlike David, who I think genuinely enjoys these conventions. He was a superfan of the show since childhood, he still subscribes to DW Magazine, recorded Doctor Who audiobooks before the show even came back, and was posting on Outpost Gallifrey just so he could talk Doctor Who.
