Between all of 10th's companions, Donna was the only one to not be romantically attracted to him but, ironically, still is the one who had more chemistry. David Tennant and Catherine Tate together in action should happen more times.
You have to see them together in Much Ado About Nothing. They did a version of the play and it was hilarious. Then there was the time he did her Christmas special playing a Russell Brand version of the Ghost of Christmas Present. Too funny 😂😆😆
I LOVE Donna as the Doctor's companion and LOVE their chemistry, but I have to disagree and say that Rose and the Doctor's chemistry was stronger. The camaraderie between between Donna and the Doctor though, was beyond all.
Same like they could have even had the same ending for donna (even if it’s heartbreaking) and it would have worked The show always under-utilises its best characters tho like bill and river
I think Rose’s in season 2 was the only one that hurt more but that’s my opinion. Donna’s ending really broke me it’s the fact that she did so much that she’ll never even know.
Donna’s hurt because she’ll never remember doing all the great things or her experiences with the doctor. All of his other companions will be able to remember their time with the doctor, which is why their leaving is never as sad
She really was, after having two companions who pined over him it was great to have one to be his, as he puts it best friend, though I always saw them as siblings. Donna would always speak up and always called the Doctor out when she disagreed with something he did, or would tell him to "stop going all space man " lol To me Donna will always be the best companion of Who and I'm still upset with how her time ended being forced to forget. Even her grandfather Wilf was a great companion, it was so heartbreaking when the Doctor told him Donna would have to forget all the adventures she had been on.
TheDoctorwho747 yea that’s true, loved Donna and Wilfred. I may be slightest biased to rose tho. She introduced me to doctor who and she’s my favorite, also I’d say the romantic feelings between rose and 10 were much more genuine than with 10 and Maratha. I found Maratha a bit cringey cuz it was obvious they would never happen
I think the reason they got along so well was because they were such equals. Donna never saw the doctor as a huge superior time lord so she wasn’t afraid to contradict him like others. They understood each other in a different way to rose, Martha, Amy, Clara and everyone else
Rose did tell the Doctor when he was acting like a jerk. More so with the 9th Doctor than with 10. But 10 got intense after Rose got stuck in the other dimension and he needed someone to stop him from going too far.
i feel like Clara was equally unafraid to call him out on his bullshit, and really didn’t see herself as his sidekick or anything either. that’s why i loved her and twelves dynamic so much. i totally agree though, donna is by far the best of tens companions
Well, the Doctor's track record with aliens has a surprising amount of tentacles. The Daleks, the Nestene, the Alpha Centuari, the _Ood!_ Maybe the universe favors life that evolves to have tentacles, like how species on Earth tend to evolve into crabs.
The thing that I always found so tragic about Donna was the fact that she was so beautifully written, sassy ain’t need no man type stuff, but she was also hella stubborn and hella loyal so the writers knew the only way they could get her to leave would be to make her forget everything. And man, that hurts.
Oh, yeah. A teacher of mine once was really confused, 'cause we both just started laughing. The thing is he knew we weren't cheating, it was a bloody philosophy exam. Kinda hard to cheat on those.

I don't mean to be incendiary, but this is the kind of genuine comedy that Moffat and his merry men (and women, just didn't fit the alliteration) can't seem to nail down. Right. But you do know that this was during Russel T Davies run as show runner, and point of fact wrote most of these episodes himself, like Partners in Crime & the End of time. Steven Moffat was a writer but wasn't show runner until Matt Smith was introduced
i know i wish it could go back to being like this again, to many of his companions are romantic interests or are so in awe of him they put him on a pedestal and rarely challenge him or are otherwise too engaged with their own partner, family or life to truly be there for him, they assume he can always fix everything and often make life harder for him but Donna was his best mate and equal, she told him off, told him when he was wrong, really cared about him and could read him like a book, she knew when he was lying and if something was wrong and he needed a hug and like most people she got fed up of the constant adventure sometimes and whilst he was jumping about like a kid wanting to show his mom something cool she just wanted to sunbathe and when he came back from that adventure all sad she was his comfort. she kept him well grounded making him save people at Pompeii but also taking joint control of the button to set Vesuvius off and taking equal responsibility for their actions rather than leaving all the hard stuff up to him. i really want to see the doctor get a companion that is like his best friend or sibling again (well its her now but you know what i mean) his top companions for me (of the new series) have got to be Donna, Bill and Amy and Rory and i did like River song especially the singing towers episode and also the 2 episodes with Craig (James cordon)
it was very clever of them to give her so few "serious" scenes up until the end. her banter with the doctor became so sort of normalized and expected, that tearing her away from him hurt far more than if they had given her a bunch of romantic scenes with him. Sometimes its harder to lose a mate whos just sort of always been there but you took for granted, than an intense romantic partner.
Megduck Random I had hope in sometime, somewhere, some alternative timeline or planets, Donna found herself someone who truly loves her like the man in the library. But the way they portray her ending, it seems she settled for someone because she didn’t believe she could anyone better. 😭
Ten and Donna were by far the best duo on Who. It's a shame they shoved Freema into so many of Donna's episodes instead of letting Catherine shine with David on her own and even more heartbreaking that they gave Donna the ending that they did. She should have been with him at the very end and she never should have had her memories of him erased and been returned to mediocrity. It was such a shitty end for such an amazing character.
10 and Donna are my favorite pairing hands down and I’m still salty about how Donna left. Every other companion gets a happy ending and most get to see the doctor again but not Donna the best companion..
Could not agree with you more, Donna was the best and David and Catherine worked so well together. I was so pissed with her ending it was heartbreaking. And not only did they shove in Freema but Billie too and all the others, but still Donna was the one who saved all life in the universe so you cant get more a shining moment than that.
Whoa! I thought I was the only one still pissed at how they ended Donna’s life in the TARDIS. They could’ve just killed her, IMO. That would’ve been a really magnificent exit for her character. Not go back to square one.
I completely agree: I didn't like when Freema and Rose (and others from the past) were brought back during Donna's episodes. She and the Doctor didn't need ANYONE else; they were perfect together, always, and in every way. As for Donna's ending, it was one of the most heartbreaking things I had EVER seen on TV or in film. Still makes me all teary every time I see it. If Ten and Donna had been given one more season together, I truly believe their relationship would have developed from best friends to something MUCH more. The chemistry between them was palpable; they belonged together.
Same! After her Christmas episode, I dreaded the idea of her becoming a companion. Ten minutes into Partners in Crime, I was like, "... Okay, I kinda love her."
in Journey's End, Dalek Caan LITERALLY refers to Donna as "the most faithful companion" and Ten literally calls her his best friend so I think that Donna was truly such a good character and it was just really refreshing to have someone in the show who really humbled the doctor and had true platonic love for him. I love her. Truly.
I’m the “I’m alright too” scene, when The doctor says come on and grabs donnas hand, that just gets me... they were such good friends and they loved each other so much as friends. I feel like Donna also helped him heal after Dose more than Martha ever did bc Martha wanted something she couldn’t have
I love how she was the leader in the relationship she never fell for him or got undermined by him she was always straight talking and if he tried it on with her shed smack him one and I love ittt 😂😂🙌🏽
I feel like the "I just want a mate" scene sums up their entire relationship, Donna isn't ment to be a romantic interest, she an the Doctor are FRIENDS! Her whole job is for them to be friends, and Donna is older then Martha and Rose so she is more aware of her emotions and they are such good friend and ahhhhhhhhhh Especially I love when they hug and protect eachother ❤❤❤❤
They were so good for each other, honestly. She brought out the best in him and kept him a bit humble by not taking any BS, and traveling with him helped her grow so much as a person. Not to mention you could tell they just genuinely had fun together and liked one another's company. My favorite Doctor/companion duo by far.
I've always wanted to see Donna with other Doctors... she Would Not put up with 9's sulking(and lead to loads of banter), get annoyed with how 11 tends to ignore his emotional problems, get along like a house on fire with 12, and Donna and 13 would be too much sass for anyone to handle
Donna and 10 had such a wonderful chemistry and such a special relationship with each other, and i think the fact that it wasn't romantic but that they were just really good friends made it even better cause it didn't feel forced, just genuine. I'm really happy they'll (hopefully) team up again this year (yeah, David Tennant is the 14th Doctor but you know what I mean)
my favourite exchange is the "alright" being code for "really not alright" one, because it really shows that they're on equal footing with their friendship and understand each other
3:20 It was at that moment that it clicked. There they were; Lance, Donna, Doctor; riding Segways down a green-lit tunnel. It really does not get any more bonkers than that.
I like to think they kept that version of the scene because Catherine’s natural sense of humor made her lose it (woman in wedding dress riding Segway? Come on! Who wouldn’t laugh at that!) And during edit, everyone fell in love with her completely free whoops of laughter (plus how it infected David :), they decided it was just the perfect version/take, regardless of what was actually in the script.
“Taking a big space truck with a bunch of strangers across a diamond planet planet called Midnight, what could possibly go wrong” Cue my favourite episode of Dr. who of all time.
I love most of the Doctor's companions in one way or another, but Donna will always be my favorite. She's like the Doctor's big sister, a great buddy, and I absolutely adore it.
0:00-1:15 Save you all the trouble. DOCTOR: Donna? DONNA: Doctor! DOCTOR: But what? What? What? DONNA: Oh my God! DOCTOR: But how? DONNA: It's me! DOCTOR: Yes, I can see that. DONNA: Oh, this is brilliant. DOCTOR: What the hell are you doing there? DONNA: I was looking for you. DOCTOR: What for? DONNA: I read it on the internet. Weird. Crept along. Heard them talking. Hid. You. (Then she realises that Miss Foster is staring at her and the Doctor.) MISS FOSTER: Are we interrupting you? DOCTOR: Run!
I really wish they continued on with the Pompeii episode with the twelve doctor having to cross his time line and telling the tenth doctor and Donna looked like siblings
I remember thinking I would absolutely hate her after that first episode she’s in. But she literally is my favorite companion in the whole thing. She is such a savage and a great duo with the Doctor.
I will ALWAYS love the Doctor/Donna! With Rose and Martha, they were always swooning over him. Whereas Donna was his best mate and someone he needed to stay grounded and compassionate just as much as she needed him to help her see just how amazing she could be! Their ending broke my heart especially after Wilf breaks down!
I love their relationship for the simple fact that it's amazing but also because it always reminds me of how there's another doctor out there that acts like Donna and I think that idea is so sweet.
Interesting take. Unfortunately, his existence is ruined for me by the idea that Rose is expected to see him as interchangeable with the man she loves. Much as I’m not a fan of Rose’s obsession with him (and genuinely don’t believe/can’t stand the idea that he could possibly be genuinely in love with her), I hate that part of the problem with her character is they TREAT her like a child. If that’s genuinely Billie Piper’s personality, why cast someone so childish in the role? Don’t get it. Very disappointing. Can’t stand the childishness - the little tantrums, whining, foot-stomping. “The worst day of my life” - come ON! I don’t know if they actually wrote her that way, or if that’s what Billie’s actually like. She may simply be too young (meaning, inexperienced) to stand up to him properly. I always imagine Catherine Tate keeping the writers straight, telling them “I would never say that!” when they get something wrong about what her character would say or do.
Wireless? Maybe the signal comes from the bottom or something. Maybe it looks like handsets for some kind of future human nostalgia. I mean come on, most of the future people tend to be human (or look human) and most sound British.
The thing i liked about donna was that she wasn't in love with the doctor she just wanted to be his friend and her face when the doctor and rose finally reunited she looked so happy and proud that hes getting to see rose again
They had fantastic chemistry and she was so funny. I really liked them together. Edit: plus “Silence in the Library” is one of my favorite episodes in the series
It was a nice change of pace to have Donna as his companion. Both Rose and Martha were in love with the Doctor, and Donna just wanted to be friends. Having Donna as his companion was awesome!
Donna is my hands down favorite. She was his friend and companion in the truest sense of the word without messy emotional entanglements. You included in these clips one of the best scenes of their relationship which cemented this for me…when the Doctor was agonizing over the necessary destruction of an entire city and Donna placed her hands on his so that he wouldn’t carry the burden of his decision alone. 😭❤️
Were you at Wales Con by any chance? XD I met her in December and she was one of the loveliest people, hands down. She panicked a bit because she thought she'd misgendered me for a minute, but she had a good laugh with us once I got it straight :P

i know i wish it could go back to being like this again, to many of his companions are romantic interests or are so in awe of him they put him on a pedestal and rarely challenge him or are otherwise too engaged with their own partner, family or life to truly be there for him, they assume he can always fix everything and often make life harder for him but Donna was his best mate and equal, she told him off, told him when he was wrong, really cared about him and could read him like a book, she knew when he was lying and if something was wrong and he needed a hug and like most people she got fed up of the constant adventure sometimes and whilst he was jumping about like a kid wanting to show his mom something cool she just wanted to sunbathe and when he came back from that adventure all sad she was his comfort. she kept him well grounded making him save people at Pompeii but also taking joint control of the button to set Vesuvius off and taking equal responsibility for their actions rather than leaving all the hard stuff up to him. i really want to see the doctor get a companion that is like his best friend or sibling again (well its her now but you know what i mean) his top companions for me (of the new series) have got to be Donna, Bill and Amy and Rory and i did like River song especially the singing towers episode and also the 2 episodes with Craig (James cordon)
SO RIGHT. I couldnt watch after season4 . Heartbroken into the next episodes of 5.
it helps that David and Catherine have incredible comic timing and superb chemistry
it was very clever of them to give her so few "serious" scenes up until the end. her banter with the doctor became so sort of normalized and expected, that tearing her away from him hurt far more than if they had given her a bunch of romantic scenes with him. Sometimes its harder to lose a mate whos just sort of always been there but you took for granted, than an intense romantic partner.
the beginning of the video: **memes**
the end of the video: **tears**
Megduck Random I had hope in sometime, somewhere, some alternative timeline or planets, Donna found herself someone who truly loves her like the man in the library. But the way they portray her ending, it seems she settled for someone because she didn’t believe she could anyone better. 😭
ozpin hi by the way how are you doing
@@jessealvarado7796 omg a fellow rwby and doctor who fan !! hi!!!!
@@kidpickarus1967 yep that's me😁
I love this, Donna and the Doctor's friendship has always made me smile. No romance just a wacky, wholesome friendship.
The way they shoved in Billie Piper was a lot more annoying than the way Freema was brought in imo
I love how Donna says "Oi!" Gets me every time!😂😂
I'm from the southern part of the U.S. but I use the word excessively because of Donna 😂
"Watch it spaceman!"
When she first showed up, I thought she was abrasive and annoying. She grew into my favorite companion, ever.
Same! After her Christmas episode, I dreaded the idea of her becoming a companion. Ten minutes into Partners in Crime, I was like, "... Okay, I kinda love her."
6:36 is such a subtle moment and I love that he openly admits that she is his best friend.
in Journey's End, Dalek Caan LITERALLY refers to Donna as "the most faithful companion" and Ten literally calls her his best friend so I think that Donna was truly such a good character and it was just really refreshing to have someone in the show who really humbled the doctor and had true platonic love for him. I love her. Truly.
4:18 “... you’re not clever ...”
Oh ho, I beg to differ, Doctor. She was one of your cleverest companions.
I’m the “I’m alright too” scene, when The doctor says come on and grabs donnas hand, that just gets me... they were such good friends and they loved each other so much as friends. I feel like Donna also helped him heal after Dose more than Martha ever did bc Martha wanted something she couldn’t have
Always appreciate a friend who sees through your "iM fInE" moments without pushing you too hard to spill your guts about it
Genuinely one of my favourite friendships in television.
I loved their dynamic so much, they were genuinely funny and had great chemistry 😂
1:49 you can really hear David’s Scottish accent peaking through here 🤣
Yeah that’s true I hadn’t noticed 😂😂😂😂😂
1:17 - I firmly believe this is 12 going back in time solely to fuck with 10.
That last bit.... you didn't have to... Honestly just hearing that music bring me to tears
“…You’ve got three fingers.” remains one of the FUNNIEST lines in this show to this day
Donna: "I'm in my wedding dress!"
Doctor: "Yes! You look lovely. COME OOOOON!"
I love how she was the leader in the relationship she never fell for him or got undermined by him she was always straight talking and if he tried it on with her shed smack him one and I love ittt 😂😂🙌🏽
I rewatch doctor who multiple times just to see this duo
Same

I feel like the
"I just want a mate" scene sums up their entire relationship, Donna isn't ment to be a romantic interest, she an the Doctor are FRIENDS! Her whole job is for them to be friends, and Donna is older then Martha and Rose so she is more aware of her emotions and they are such good friend and ahhhhhhhhhh
Especially I love when they hug and protect eachother ❤❤❤❤
They were so good for each other, honestly. She brought out the best in him and kept him a bit humble by not taking any BS, and traveling with him helped her grow so much as a person. Not to mention you could tell they just genuinely had fun together and liked one another's company. My favorite Doctor/companion duo by far.
My wedding dress will have pockets
mine too, thanks Donna
You bet it will...
I've always wanted to see Donna with other Doctors... she Would Not put up with 9's sulking(and lead to loads of banter), get annoyed with how 11 tends to ignore his emotional problems, get along like a house on fire with 12, and Donna and 13 would be too much sass for anyone to handle
I would pay money to see Donna as 12’s companion… i wonder if anyone’s written any fics about that?
i really loved the scene when she told him she's poping home for a visit, and he gave her a farewell speach
Donna and 10 had such a wonderful chemistry and such a special relationship with each other, and i think the fact that it wasn't romantic but that they were just really good friends made it even better cause it didn't feel forced, just genuine. I'm really happy they'll (hopefully) team up again this year (yeah, David Tennant is the 14th Doctor but you know what I mean)
my favourite exchange is the "alright" being code for "really not alright" one, because it really shows that they're on equal footing with their friendship and understand each other
3:20
It was at that moment that it clicked. There they were; Lance, Donna, Doctor; riding Segways down a green-lit tunnel.
It really does not get any more bonkers than that.
And Donna in her wedding dress!
You’re not mating with me sunshine 😂
“Taking a big space truck with a bunch of strangers across a diamond planet planet called Midnight, what could possibly go wrong”
Cue my favourite episode of Dr. who of all time.
Hid. You.
(Then she realises that Miss Foster is staring at her and the Doctor.)
MISS FOSTER: Are we interrupting you?
DOCTOR: Run!
Oh thanks, I understood the beginning but not the end (I'm French)
I really wish they continued on with the Pompeii episode with the twelve doctor having to cross his time line and telling the tenth doctor and Donna looked like siblings
That would have been kinda cool but that would be weird since that guy had a family
It would be weird considering that he took the face of this exact man on purpose to remind himself that it is his duty to save people.
@@GameBreaker1055 it's funny because actually he was just a good actor and they went "oh shit we've used you before"
@@theescapist9450 They did no excuses for Karen Gillan, though, from the same episode...
That would have been HILARIOUS!!!!! Especially if later on he revealed himself to be the 12th Doctor…
Their friendship remains to this day as the best one in all of New Who
Rewatching that end bit about her being with him forever hits different after the 60th anniversary cus in the end she got exactly that 🥲
3:28 I love how they became best friends in their first episode together
We all knew Tennant was appearing in the 60th, but now we know his best companion is joining him.
My favourite combo. The best of the “new” doctors, and the absolute best sidekick EVER.
"Donna" was a fantastic adition to the show, and the pair generated some of the best moments of the series.
She was so necessary to the show and she nailed the whole function of the companions "sometimes you need someone to stop you "
13 years later, and she's still the best modern companion
One of the best fictional QPRs out there, I swear to god. Donna will always be my favourite.
THEY'RE BACK!!
They’re coming baaaack
2:16 Donna is talking into a disconnected handset.
Michal Nemecek Space headset
It's the future.
Wireless? Maybe the signal comes from the bottom or something.
Maybe it looks like handsets for some kind of future human nostalgia.
I mean come on, most of the future people tend to be human (or look human) and most sound British.
4:10
"I NEED MY WEDDING RING!!!!"
"Yes, you look lovely! COME ON!!!" 🤣
Love how you can hear her "Doc-tahhhrrrr" in that first clip even without a sound
0:21 me and my friend trying to communicate across the classroom after my teacher split us up
the silent scene at the start is one of the best funniest moments in a doctor who history not one day goes by, and I don't think about this scene
The thing i liked about donna was that she wasn't in love with the doctor she just wanted to be his friend and her face when the doctor and rose finally reunited she looked so happy and proud that hes getting to see rose again
I think both she and Martha were genuinely happy for 10 when Rose came back, they knew how desperately he’d missed her.
They had fantastic chemistry and she was so funny. I really liked them together.
Edit: plus “Silence in the Library” is one of my favorite episodes in the series
My favorite duo. Absolutely loved them together!
It was a nice change of pace to have Donna as his companion. Both Rose and Martha were in love with the Doctor, and Donna just wanted to be friends. Having Donna as his companion was awesome!
Love how the angrier he gets the more Scottish he becomes 😂😂
So glad Donna and the Doctor get a happy ending :]
I love this duo!!
I met Catherine Tate at a Convention and just started sobbing. She's brilliant 💜
Were you at Wales Con by any chance? XD I met her in December and she was one of the loveliest people, hands down. She panicked a bit because she thought she'd misgendered me for a minute, but she had a good laugh with us once I got it straight :P
@@notmarypoppins she is so fun to chat with! I met her at Atlantas Dragon Con. 😁
Isn't she the sweetest??? I met her two years ago and we joked about the Catherine Tate show a ton!!!
this is soo funny and a bit nostalgic
1:17 i can never un-see this scene as 12 messing with 10 XDDD
They were my favorite duo. Such wonderful, fun, caring chemistry. I want a friendship like this.
Just had to break my heart with that last scene, hey.
Donna is the best companion. Ever. Don’t fight me.

I agree 100%. Their friendship and “luv” for each other was perfect. Donna’s kiss to him to “shock” him was awesome. He cared deeply about her and it broke his heart to have to erase her memories. My fave pairing ❤️
DoctorDonna was and is and will be the best ❤️😭
