We've been waiting all year for this day! Finally we got on some Jack Crevalle with Ray from South Texas Fishing Fam. If you have any questions leave them down below. Thanks for watching!
Thank you, Mike! We've been fishing the jetties since March trying to get on the first ones that came in, finally it paid off! Good luck out there and hopefully you jack 'em up!
@@MattsSaltwaterFishing Just got done watching the whole vid and I didn’t even skip the ads! 😂 You sure did sound disappointed when you caught that first Bull! 😂 Looks like the spoons were the ticket. Y’all didn’t catch any on the the poppers? I plan to go back to get on them Kings. I’ll be in touch!
@@MADFISHINREELS Thanks bro, we appreciate it! It's gonna help recoup the cost of the spoons I lost. lol. I LOVE catching Bull Reds but I really thought it was a small Jack because that's how the one I caught felt. Ruben and I started the morning off by throwing our poppers. Literally everyone was hooking up on silver spoons around me so that's why I switched to a silver spoon early on. Ruben kept at it with the popper and didn't get a single hit. It was weird though because a lot of the hook ups I got (as well as others) we had the spoon near the top of the water, yet the Jacks didn't want to hit the poppers. Sounds like a plan!
@@MattsSaltwaterFishing Ya I hear Ya ... Still nice Fight! I'm from up in Jersey so I'm more familiar with like striped bass, Bluefish and Albie's! Some quality fish though, what do you do with the jacks? I've heard some people eat them but most use them for bait?
@@66shaggy77 Thanks! The last few Striped Bass down here were caught around the Great Depression. We get Bluefish down but I haven't seen them as big as they get on the east coast. We personally use the Jacks for shark bait, I spoke with a gentelman from The Bahamas and he said they would smoke them over there. Sorry for the late reply but I thought I replied to this 2 days ago.
Yeah man I hear you! We missed out on last year's run. They should still be around, the conditions have to get a little better after the past few windy days.
Always present from Maluku Indonesia follow and watch video Extreme edge fishing, but there is a big yellowfin burbara fish strike. amazing my friend, and the last result is 6 Strikes 👍🏿👍🏿.
I’ll be there next weekend for the 1st time fishing the coast. What is your setup for catching jacks and preferred lures? I currently have a penn battle 3 surf rod and 8000 reel with 50 Lb braid.
I'm using a Penn Slammer 3 6500 with 65lb Daiwa Grand J Braid on a 10'6" Breakaway Omega, Ruben is using a Penn International 975 LD on an American Rodsmith 3oz-8oz rod. The backup reel was a Penn Spinfisher 5500. For Jacks we like throwing 3oz spoons at Port A and of course a Popper like the Tsunami Surface Blaster or Halco Roosta Poppa, if the bite is slow I might use a different lure like the Rapala XRAP SXRL14 which is my prefered lure for Kingfish. Good luck out there!
@@MattsSaltwaterFishing I go to packery when I can now, I have the gear just have to learn the fish. My largest ulua was 53 lbs! It’s a blast tight lines bud
Unfortunately they do not, Darlene. The meat is very bloody and most of the people that I spoke with that have tried it said they didn't like it. A majority of people that keep them, keep them for shark bait. Thank you for watching!
@@darlenechung8664 unfortunately the wind has been pretty high the past few days and surf has been rough. It's that time of year where you're probably not gonna get the large number of Pompano that we were getting a few months ago. This time of year we tend to focus the jetties for Jack Crevalle and Kingfish and we might do an occasional beach trip here and there.
Damn it boy!!! Your were bombing that spoon a mile. Geez.. Yeah you were right this video is non-stop action 🔥 Are yall using mono leader for the spoons? And what kind of rod was Ruben using the one with the greenish black wrap?
Thanks, Carlos! Yes, Ruben and I run ~10 feet of 100lb mono for abrasion resistance and to grab to land fish. If we get frays then we cut it down accordingly. The rod Ruben was using is an American Rodsmith 10' rated 3-8 ounces. Thanks for watching.
@@MattsSaltwaterFishing as soon as I fully recover from my aching pains and broken ribs from a car accident I'm definitely going to run down there hopefully in a couple of weeks.
The Jacks just started showing up in good numbers last weekend, however during the week we had 30+mph winds for a few days so that messed it all up. They should still be around but the conditions have got to get better. The big schools will probably start to break up in the next month or so.

At a good walking speed it takes roughly 15 minutes. The walk isn't as bad as it used to be since they added the new rocks.
