Have the Jacks started running where you are? Do you use a spinning reel or conventional when throwing lures at the jetties?
Puro conventional!
@@RubenakaChupacabra alv old school jetty rat.
Spinning bro. That drag screaming is sensational
@@1093lilsmoke Yeah I do enjoy hearing those spinning reels scream but we didn't let our Jacks run that much we tightened up our drags early on.
Matt's Saltwater Fishing only bad thing is I can’t tighten the drag too much. I lost jacks b/c of that. (Still Learning how to fight them)
Great action at the jetty
Thanks! We're waiting for Spring so the Jacks can start showing up at the jetties again.
great video
Thank you!
That's power SON!!!!
That's power!!! 💪
Nice! I need to hit the jack run. It looks like so much fun.
Yes sir, get them while the getting is good! We had a blast out there, the walk back was a different story. lol
@@MattsSaltwaterFishing What time of the year is the Jack running?
Cool page man! Liked and subbed. Its cool how yall out in Texas get the same fishing as we do here in North Florida. Those things always fight so hard.
Thank you I really appreciate it! Yeah our fishing down here in South Texas is pretty good, the water isn't quite as nice as Florida but it's nice enough lol. Sorry for the late reply but I didn't get a notification.
Recently moved here (C.C.) from the PNW, and I HAVE to go do this soon! Already making plans... great video. Big thumbs up!
Oh wow that is quite the move! Thanks for watching. Currently they are doing repairs to the Port Aransas Jetties so it seems to be closed during the week but open on the weekends. Another spot you can try for them is the Packery Jetties but those jetties are smaller and get packed. Good luck out there!
What do you do with all those Jacks?
Shark bait.
Great video! Nice
Thanks for watching!
What was the weight of the spoon?
3 ounces.
Keep up the good work
Subbed from uk 🇬🇧 channel
Awesome thank you!
I use both. My gear is heavy so I have to use 3oz to 5oz spoons to really get a good cast. my spin reel has 50lb of drag. Conventional has 35.
With the Harrington 724 I'm using the lowest weight (to load up the rod) I can use is a 3oz, the sweet spot for that rod is 6oz. What spinning reel and conventional reel do you use?
they are running in freeport and galveston too.
I saw some pictures where they tore them up in Freeport and off 91st.
Badass bro, can’t wait to get some action at the end of the month.
Thank you! Good luck out there!
What rod is that ?
Harrington 724 (10') and an American Rodsmith 4-8oz (10').
Great video I need to hit the jetties but I'm working my four nights I'll be out there tomorrow
Thank you! Good luck out there!
@@MattsSaltwaterFishing appreciate it 🤙
Nice
Thank you very much!
Dammit! Y’all had a blast..need to make my way that way since pack is closed
Sorry for the late reply but I did not receive a notification. Port Aransas Jetties and fishing on the beach in Port Aransas is banned at the moment. Packery Jetties is supposedly still open from 8am-8pm but I heard if there is too many people on there/close by eachother then CCPD will be called out and break everyone up.
Those Jacks make you work for it impressive
Yes the Jacks keep fighting till the end. Where as a Kingfish has 1 good run and that's about it.
Thank you UA-cam for suggestion this in my inbox today again. Bad to the bone Jack'em up session
Solid sesh there man! Great haul
Thank you, we appreciate it! We had a blast out there.
@@MattsSaltwaterFishing When do the kings run out there bro? I gotta knock that one off the bucket!
@@gulfcoastfishing5522 I know they start running at the pier around May so I would say around mid April or May at Port A.
Sweet man ill have to make a trip out there see if i can get on some king action! Thanks 👊
@@gulfcoastfishing5522 sounds good best of luck to you!
i need to go to Port A to catch these monsters
Yes you do! They are pound for pound 1 of the hardest fighting fish.
There's the 724.. I was looking for the video. I'm excited about getting my new/old rod next week. That rod handled that jack pretty easily. See you got a Sealine 50 on it. Nice reels
It's a great rod for handling those Medium sized fish. The only downside is that it gets a little heavy when you throw lures with it all day. If you're still on instagram send me a pic of it when you get it.
@@MattsSaltwaterFishing sorry bro im not on it no more. But I'll figure something out:)
@@johnnycortez46 sounds good. Do you know the condition of the rod? O you plan on fishing with it as is or getting it rewrapped?
@@MattsSaltwaterFishing going to fish with it. And scale 1-10 ill give it a 8.
I think I'll make it one of my bullred or drum rigs..
@@johnnycortez46 the 724 is perfect for that. I hope you enjoy it and put it to good use. 💪
Get some mojo on that UT rod!!! Make it bend!!!! Hook em up!jack em up! Catch em! Up!!! Great job!
Thanks for watching, Chris! We planned on putting the UT rod to work down PINS next week but due to the cold front, high winds (25mph+) and the modelo bug going around we're now unsure.
Matt's Saltwater Fishing ever clear is the cure!
@@chriscothren8170 lol I'm more of a Jack and Coke guy.
That jetty workout, drag ~100 lbs of Jack's down the jetty. Gonna have to patent it.
Lol yeah no kidding... get a jetty rat body in 90 days or your money back.
Good catching... What size of test line are u useing on Jetty's?
Thanks. We were using 40lb mono on the Sealine and 65lb braid on the International 975.
Awesomeness!’nn
Thank you!
What type of leader set up did you use for those 3 oz. Spoons in those jacks... nice videos and great action. 🎣🎣
Ruben was running a 10' 100lb leader tied with an FG knot to 65lb braid and I was using a 4' 100lb leader tied with a double uni to 40lb mono.
@@MattsSaltwaterFishing 👍🏽 thanks.
@mattssaltwaterfishing was this during the week??
Yes sir it was. Thank you for watching.
Did yall see any bonita?? Aparently they were around for a day or so. They usually linger south padre alot
There was a little school of them running up and down the jetty at the same time.
Bonita are good shark bait too! That 724 putting it in. You don’t need no water break on the jetties man! 26” Red and a Mack! It’s going down. If I don’t get some Jacks, I know where to go for one! 😆 You need to rent a jetty mule to haul that stringer out of there. DAMN
Yeah we would have had a better chance at them with a 1oz mann-o-lure. Lol throwing that heavy rod and reel gets a little tiring! Good luck out there, those Jacks are a lot of fun! It's so rocky at Port A that if we brought the jetty cart we would have to pick it up to hop the rocks and that would be a pain in itself.
Matt's Saltwater Fishing Y’all boys got plenty of bait now man!!! Jacks and Rays.
@@MADFISHINREELS Yeah all we need to do now is go shark fishing and hook up to a monster!
Would a tranx 200 and a 7’11 rod rated up to 3oz work for these fish?
We have caught and have videos of us catching them on 200 sized Curados spooled with 30lb braid and Trout/Redfish rods. That being said a larger reel would make the job a lot easier.
I use a old 300 ej with a 711 phenix m1 inshore 20lb braid to 30lb leader never have any issues
Oh wow, how I miss the sea and fishing with friends. #FishingBDGo
Hopefully you get to fish with your friends soon. Thanks for watching.
Jack em up 😂😂😂
Stop 'em or pop 'em 💪
@@MattsSaltwaterFishing 😂😂 good stuff brother
@@genesisnkaidence8519 thanks and thanks for watching 💪
Have all gone out to port A now that’s it open
Not yet but I heard the crowd the past 2 days was insane.
pura pinche pesca perrona!!!! I like to watch your videos I'm from San Diego, what is your instagram ?
Thanks for watching! I think you have commented on some of my videos a while back. Instagram is @akamattikins
How are conventional reels at the jetties? I have a 5500 slammer and 5500 passion that work awesome but have never tried a conventional reel.
Thanks for watching! A majority of people use spinning reels for throwing larger lures so they don't have to worry about backlashing and winding the line with their thumb. I had to wind the line on the Sealine and Ruben didn't because his Penn International 975LD has a worm. We use Ambassadeur 6500s and Curado's for our smaller jetty setups.
New sub here cool video I miss port a lot I dropped a video of Surfside jack run this last week they got hot
Thank you I appreciate it! I've seen some videos on Facebook of people hooking up over there. I'll be sure to check out your vid.
Think they’ll still be around after this front? Planning on fishing tomorrow afternoon/evening
They'll probably still be around, I just checked the water temp at the Port A station and it's 71 degrees at the moment. Good luck out there!
They span through March end of may
@@quantumaquatic1767 yes sir that's usually when they are there.
Matt's Saltwater Fishing Thanks! I saw y’all leaving right as I got there yesterday. Caught one small bull red and hooked a jack, but it got me in the rocks.
@@skiddieleet should've said hi! Glad you caught the Red, yeah once those Jacks get close to the rocks you gotta lock it down and pull them up to the top of the water. We were there for a couple hours, we didn't plan on going it was a last minute thing. During the few hours we were there nothing really happened.
Do you like to eat Jack?
No, we use them for shark bait.
Why do you keep the Jack fish? Aren't they real bloody and boney?
Great question! They are a very bloody fish which makes it great shark bait! Thanks for watching.
That is some extreme jetty cowboy stuff and I love it! Con la spoon!
Lol thank you! We had to get those Jacks in for a shark fishing trip coming up soon.
team conventional! some people underestimate the reliability of mono and star drags. i have lost a lot of fish using braid and spinning reels.
I'm using a Harrington 724 and a Daiwa Sealine XSHA 50 with roughly 300 yards of 40lb mono. I figure if I cast 100 yards I still have 200 yards to fight a really big fish 5'+ Tarpon and what not. I think braid is good when you really need the line capacity whether it be for big fish or smaller reels.
What brand and oz. spoons were you using?
Just the no name 3oz crocodile spoons from ebay.
@@MattsSaltwaterFishing Thanks for the response brother. Great videos. Looking forward to seeing more.
@@jmend1970 you're welcome and glad you enjoyed the video. I got some Kingfish videos if you haven't seen them yet.
That's the way to skin the fish with no need for a knife!
lol yeah no kidding.
Does the jetty still open?
Unfortunately they closed it down a couple of weeks ago.
Does the packery jetty still open ?
@@khounkhmer1449 no they closed it tonight till Monday.
@@MattsSaltwaterFishing for good or for a while
Do y'all eat the Jack's
We're going to use them for shark bait. The Redfish was for dinner though lol. Thanks for watching.
@@MattsSaltwaterFishing yeah no problem my wife and I always watch y'all's videos jack em up tight lines
@@leonardespinoza4475 thank you we really appreciate it! Hopefully I can go shark fishing soon and make a shark video 🦈
When next cool video 👏
I just came out with another video where we catch a Jack and Kingfish.
Should have been throwing a 553 with a sx 🤦🏿♀️
I think a Jawbone H542 with an Avet MXL would be better.
why not use a spinning reel instead of a conventional?
Most people do use spinning reels but we prefer conventional. We are considering getting a spinning setup just so we can switch hands when we get tired.
Matt's Saltwater Fishing I got a BG ocean master combo that works wonders out here at surfside and Galveston m
@@yuelex2070 I was considering the Daiwa BG, Penn Spinfisher, and Penn Slammer.
Matt's Saltwater Fishing I hear all good things about the slammer, but I still like the BG, feels like they’re all pretty similar
@@yuelex2070 yeah the BG for $100 seems hard to beat for the money.
I think you should dispatched first before dragging them alive across the jetty
Oh they were dispatched shortly after the initial drag.
Do you think that next time you can dispatch and bleed those fish right away? It is better for the taste of the meat and far less cruel. Especially if you have a cooler with you, it should work out well for you.
Unfortunately that is not the case. We were out here for 6 hours without an ice chest with an hour and a half walk back. If we would've dispatched them as soon as we caught them then they would be spoiled by the time we made it to the truck.
That can't be good dragging them like that..
They are for shark bait and they died pretty quick. We didn't have any other way to carry back 100 pounds of fish 3/4ths of a mile back to the truck.
