Great list! Lots of hard games. I guess you havent played Hollow Knight. Definitely one of the hardest modern games out there. I used not hours but evenings on beating some of the bosses. And when you finally beat them, an even harder one emerges.
This is honestly the hardest game I’ve ever finished. I had a much easier time with sekiro, ER, BB, etc. I picked the cowards ending just because I couldn’t handle another boss fight that may take me 8 hours to complete
And the difficulty spikes. It is perfectly balanced except for *those* boss fights. The endgame bosses were just relentless, but the first half has some of my favorite bosses of any game ever. Well worth it in the end
Should try out Enter the Guneon. Beating the Lich and getting the true ending is probably one of the hardest things Ive done in games and I've played a lot of hard games.
Yep. Tbh I remember feeling as if the game was unresponsive (I felt as if my summons were either not attacking or doing dmg even when higher in level).
@@VegaIllusion For me, it was that i was low health and didnt have any more magic for the healing spell. Repeat for another half hour until youre full health and then you wait until you have enough magic for an attacking spell
@@natef1212 I actually vaguely remember doing stuff like that. I played Ni No Kuni 1 and 2 back to back, so I kinda washed away all the bad stuff by playing the second one (which has hack and slash action RPG combat instead). But yeah, it got annoying. Very good concept and game overall but it really needed slightly better gameplay.
Ghostrunner 2 is the perfect sequel. It takes the best parts of the first game and multiplies them. And it's easier then first one due to more tools given to the protagonist. Though for me the hard part of both games started with hardmode. Base game is relatively easy, but hardmode changes levels so significantly that it sometimes becomes a pain in the ass. I have one particular level in each game with 200+ deaths on it and 90% of them were on one particular section. But it's fun😁
Nioh isn’t that difficult at all. I even have the platinum trophy. It’s the only souls game that I own the platinum. I actually got burnt out with Dark Souls 2 with souls games due to its post game difficulty and Nioh made me fall in love with these style of games again because I thought it was fair. Even if you die you don’t have to run about half an hour to reach the boss. Imo Nioh and Wo Long have pretty much the same difficulty.
Did you ever play the OG ds2? That version was actually good imo and definitely far more balanced. I actually had fun with that version of the game. It was Scolar of the first sin that ruined it.
After the nerf it's not that hard tbh. Not easy but not too difficult. I think 10% of players have the platinum for the game which is 1 in every 10 persons. Pretty high number tbh.
Dead Cells at 5BC... no contest. Sekiro was tough for me but got super easy when it finally clicked. But 5BC difficulty Dead Cells is just stupid hard.
@@forwardmoving8252apparently you haven’t played 5BC difficulty then. Sekiro starts hard but once you learn the combat it gets very easy especially on your next playthroughs
Some games I'd add for your consideration: La Mulana, Spelunky 1&2, FTL, Eldest Souls, Bloody Trapland, Celeste, Hollow Knight, Nioh 2, Lies of P, Devil Daggers, GTFO, Völgarr the Viking
Please play Lies of P It was harder than ANY Fromsoft game for me, and it is my #1 hardest game I’ve played. It’s honestly one of the best games I ever played and I can’t recommend it enough

I’m currently playing Sekiro. I got the game when it first came out, but I didn’t get too far before quitting due to me sucking at it and not being patient enough to get better. Since then I’ve played and beat Lies of P, all the soulsbornes games besides DS2 and Demons souls, and now I’ve finally come back to Sekiro and I’m enjoying it a lot now! I’m about halfway through and It feels the most satisfying when I beat a boss. After playing all the other From Soft games I’m used to trying 20+ times on a hard boss, so now I have the patience and I’m thankful I do cause Sekiro has such amazing combat. It’s so damn fun.
Decent list. I would definitely add Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze, Celeste, Doom Eternal and esepcially Lies of P to the list. Seriously, Lies of P makes every game of this list feel like a cakewalk it is like Sekiro on steroids in terms of difficulty.
@@dylankurtz8423 Crazy. Did you use Summons in lies? IMO it is definitely the hardest soulslike in case played solo against the bosses. King of puppets or nameless puppet were infuriating to me.

Obviously haven’t played Spelunky 2. One of the best and hardest games ever made. The 7-99 challenge in this game is absolutely one of the most challenging “true endings” any game has ever had, and even the basic ending is really hard. Incredible game
Despite how hard sekiro is, my experience playing the game was a lot different to most, because it took me about 10 hours of gameplay to beat the first boss, and I thought the game was impossible, but after I beat genichiro, who I did as my second boss, everything else in the game was basically a breeze. Most bosses after that took me 1 or 2 tries, with the biggest exception being the demon of hatred which took me around 1 hour 20 minutes. I've now done mortal journey (every boss in the game in a row) without getting hit so I think I'm decent at the combat but the game never really felt that challenging to me after I figured out what I was doing.
I played hades two days ago for the first time and got to the styx 4 times already in only 20 runs, almost always reaching elysium. Thought dead cells was harder. Was stuck at 2BC for ages
Crash 4 is probably the most ridiculous game I’ve ever attempted to play and in my honest opinion I really don’t think it would be such a challenging game at least to the level it is if the mechanics and control/camera wasn’t as wonky and didn’t feel as bad as it does in my opinion.
You did beat inner owl , inner ishin and inner genichiro ? They are in the gauntlet chalenges after beating the game , when you do the chalenges, there is in the final a inner version of a boss that you did beat , that inner version is way harder with a diff mouvment and skills + more RNG. So you have to try tbh
Sekiro remains the only game that has ever broke me to the point of throwing my controller on the floor and breaking it. Never come close to doing that before Sekiro and never come close to doing it since. I had to take roughly a 6 month break from playing it, came back and eventually got the platinum trophy.
Sekiro almost broke me, kept trying to dodge like in Bloodborne, but I came back and it finally clicked and I love it. Still my favorite FromSoft game just over Bloodborne and Elden Ring.
@@deanlowdon8381 Personally i found Bloodborne way harder than Sekiro but I have never being so close to quitting a game due to difficulty than with Lies of P. At least without summoning that is, the bosses 1:1 are the hardest I have ever done especially pre patch. And I have beaten every souls game, Elden Ring, Bloodborne, senior, Jedi fallen order on highest difficulty, cuphead, Celeste etc.
Good list. But I actually thought AC6 was easy once you figure out the right build. I platinumed it and the 2nd and 3rd playthroughs were easy boss-wise once I realized I could throw on the gatlings and use Dark Souls tactics (ie. get right up on the boss's ass and stay there).
Armor core 6 is ridiculously hard. Especially since they nerfed pretty much every good weapon. I can’t beat the fight against Snaill in one of the final missions of the first play through. It’s the only souls game that I haven’t been able to beat yet. I just can’t find a build that can beat him. He’s too damn fast and that damn beam attack with the static lightning is crazy
Elden Ring and Dark Souls 1 are really good places for people interested in starting those kind of games. DS 1 is easy and Elden Ring has a hard start but you can just explore and kill some mini-bosses to level up.
@@deanlowdon8381 I have been stuck on Friede on DS3 for half a year. And it's not like I'm not trying haha...Looking forward to the ER DLC so much! Only Miyazaki and maybe Oda, the author of One piece can say that and I 100 would believe it
The problem with Nioh, or at least one of many when compared to a Souls game, is it took so much straight up grinding, hours of it, to keep up with the level of a mission/enemies
I’ve found Sekiro to be easier on my steamdeck compared to my series x with wireless controller…I don’t know if the button inputs register faster or not but I could not beat Ashoka Genichiro for the life of me for over 3 years on Xbox but I beat him on my second try on my steamdeck.
I think that cuphead shouldn't be as high as it is, I've done practically everything in the game and yes it was very challenging but not as much as people make it out to be. Can't say nothing about sekiro because I've never played it but the one game that is missing from this list is celeste. In my opinion it's the best platformer ever and one of if not the hardest. You would expect that people would do the main game and then drop it but no many of them including me go and do the harder ,optional chapters just because the game is that good. And as a sidenote fully conpleting celeste is even harder than 106% crash 4 and I'm not even talking about the golden strawberries which are pure insanity. In short play celeste
Bloodborne is my favorite game of all time, just started NG+ with Ludwigs Holy Blade. Have beat them all but Sekiro & Lies of P. One day I will return and take them down, this I vow.
About Hotline miami 2: There are some custom campaigns (Like the Hunter campaign) with stupidly difficult levels. Victory, for instance. Or, Beyond Death Wish, the hardest custom campaign for HLM2. There are also singular levels like Inferno which are very hard. Much harder than the base game.
I'd pick most of these games too, but in different way and would add Witness. Witness is difficult, because it so much bs puzzles and many times when you learn the puzzle types, it is easy to misunderstand the idea of the puzzle and really hard to try and learn it later. Sekiro is not as difficult because it is full of "exploits" and you don't have to learn patterns if you can find a workaround.
You should try Monster Hunter World/Iceborne. The bosses/enemies are generally really challenging along with the incredibly deep and complex weapons designs to master... then there are 2 Monsters that put things like Isshin, Malenia and Orphan of Kos to shame in terms of difficulty..... Alatreon and Fatalis 💀🔥
One of the hardest games I’ve beat is code vein. It’s a rather great soulslike with insanely aggressive bosses and relentless enemy placement. It feels like it should be co-op, and for the most part the game gives you a follower character that you can choose whether or not to keep at your side. But I recently did a no follower run and the game took me 3 months to beat, the second 2 of which being the post game content and dlcs
Putting hades in this list is absolutely criminal. It's literally the easiest roguelike ever. Like, I wonder if anyone ever used the "God Mode" setting. Luckily Hades II isn't such a pushover anymore. And yes, I know you can make the game ridiculously hard, I mean only the base no heat difficulty.
I've played most of those games so far..and I can say I agree With you 100% they are quite haaaaard...the Good thing is that make you a better player. After playing them the average games are PRETTY easy to master
I love your content tubalar Jonathan! Watch like all the videos. I do wish you wouldn’t put all the picks in the thumbnail, kinda spoils the video for me and makes me click off sometimes cause I know what’s gonna be on the list. Maybe if it just had like 3-4 of the options it could keep the mystery better, just a suggestion, love your content brother will stay tuned
The brainsuckers from Bloodborne made me almost throw the controller a few times when they’d stun lock me, then stun lock me again as soon as I got up. I yelled at the screen all the fuckin time
It's always funny to see how player struggle in different game. I found returnal really easy died only 8 times to finish my first run, but next to this i could not beat the spider in Demon's soul
Maybe it’s just me and I’m not here to be the “get gud” guy. I just want to put out my opinion that returnal is not a hard game in the slightest to me, by run 6 I had chapter 3 completed, failed my first run chapter 1 then won, did the same chapter 2, then never really lost again until I started challenge running the game beating chapter 3 in 2 back to back chapter 1-2 wins Idk maybe I’ve just got a decent rythm for those types of games but returnal in particular FOR ME was really easy. But again not trying to degrade others experiences, just adding my own. Also a majority of roguelikes are actually more about skill and rng manipulation than they are about real “luck” this is why people are able to go on win streaks in them that span hundreds of runs so they definitely can belong in this video. Great video!
Escape from tarkov. While yes not a fighting game it is easily the hardest video game to date. The learning curve to getting decent is like 1000 hours.
He was easily the hardest thing for me. But for the most part, I was not raging at much. Hardest fights of course the final boss was just gross, the woman who is the first skill check and owl
definitely try out Spelunky 2 if you haven't might be the hardest one I've played. Just finished all trophies + the true 7-99 ending and had almost 400 hours on the game
You can cheese some bosses in Sekiro, but yeah we're the same Sekiro is the hardest game I've ever played and I think it will remain that way for a very long time 😊
Of the games I've played I think celeste and doom eternal could join the list. Haven't played hollow knight yet but I've heard it's tough. Also alien isolation completely destroyed me
as a dmc player, the main complaint about dmc5 is that it was way too easy, i could get through the entire game with A or S rank on stages by just mashing mindlessly. Only on the harder difficulties which you have to complete the game to even unlock did the game actually get fun for me
Bullshit. I went into Devil May Cry 5 button mashing in the first 5 missions because it was my first Devil May Cry game ever and only got 1 S Rank. And that was on Human mode. Then the combat finally clicked with me and i became the most stylish fucker in that game, which made me bust all over my TV. I also got my ass beat by Vergil (the goat) around 20-30 times (and yes, i used nearly every single Gold Orb) then i went into Devil Hunter mode and finally started killing demons with full style on every single mission and i came on my TV, yet again. Also, fuck mission 18. (In short, the was not easy at all. Even after playing it for 86 hours, i still get my ass beat) HIDEAKI ITSUNO!!! GIVE ME DEVIL MAY CRY 6, AND MY LIFE.. IS YOURS.
Sekiro is so special because you can become a bad ass once it clicks for you and it kinda becomes easy then but you never forget where you started.

You should try Lies of P
When i got crash 4 platinum I almost cried of joy
underrated pick but has anyone played ni no kuni? Oh my fucking god, even on easy mode some of those battles were harder than any dark souls boss
Yep. Tbh I remember feeling as if the game was unresponsive (I felt as if my summons were either not attacking or doing dmg even when higher in level).
That's mostly because your teammates are stupid and everything is a glass canon.
always wanted to try it! Didnt know it had some hard moments!
@@VegaIllusion For me, it was that i was low health and didnt have any more magic for the healing spell. And the magic regenerates so slowly. so basically you have to run around for 3-5 minutes straight avoiding the enemy attacks or you die if you get hit ONCE. and after 3-5 minutes you have enough magic to cast a healing spell.
Did you play the Project_Hel DLC for Ghostrunner 1? It's so good
@@idakev I didn't but I know it is good.
@@kenethernandez6246 I played DS2 when it came out. Never played the DLC.
I cant wait to see you play Lies of P and see it is the most difficult modern game you'll ever play
i played a lot of hard games and although lies of p is one of the greatest games ever made its not close to being one of the hardest
Post patch definitely not. Release version was very hard even as a souls vet
Its hard but not that hard. Sekiro, Returnal and Elden Ring are much harder.
After the nerf it's not that hard tbh. Not easy but not too difficult. I think 10% of players have the platinum for the game which is 1 in every 10 persons. Pretty high number tbh.
Returnal is the most difficult
Your in my top 10 youtubers of all time
Dead Cells at 5BC... no contest. Sekiro was tough for me but got super easy when it finally clicked. But 5BC difficulty Dead Cells is just stupid hard.
Took me 3 years to get the true ending
It was such a journey love dead cells
That game is a joke compared to sekiro difficulty-wise
@@forwardmoving8252apparently you haven’t played 5BC difficulty then. Sekiro starts hard but once you learn the combat it gets very easy especially on your next playthroughs
Some games I'd add for your consideration: La Mulana, Spelunky 1&2, FTL, Eldest Souls, Bloody Trapland, Celeste, Hollow Knight, Nioh 2, Lies of P, Devil Daggers, GTFO, Völgarr the Viking
You research, write and present very well. Props.
First video ive seen and im impressed def subscribing
Please play Lies of P
It was harder than ANY Fromsoft game for me, and it is my #1 hardest game I’ve played. It’s honestly one of the best games I ever played and I can’t recommend it enough
Completing a run for the first time in Hades was indeed incredibly satisfying.
Yeah, it took me about 25-30 attempts, but once I’d done it once I could do it pretty much every time.
i beat it on my phone it’s so easy
@@loopy227good for you
the other games i can agree but dmc V is actually super chill
It is actually so easy that the community considers the normal difficulty to be the easy one
But once you get into the higher difficulties it is kinda hard
Yeah I didn't really get what dmc V was doing here
LIES!
I completed Crash 4 to 106% twice (PS4 and Switch). My 1st playthrough I raged so many times because of the platinum and N. Sanley perfect relics.
Rain World and Cruelty Squad, awwwyeah!
I somehow beat Lies of P but couldn't beat a single Souls Game even after playing all of them
@@dylankurtz8423 Crazy. Did you use Summons in lies? IMO it is definitely the hardest soulslike in case played solo against the bosses. King of puppets or nameless puppet were infuriating to me.
Why donkey Kong? I’ve heard of it but never thought it would be that hard? Is it actually hard?
@@Jumogas TF is very challenging especially in case you want to 100% it. It is also commonly known as a very demanding game, I am a bit surprised you never heard this :)
@@FelixS. I’ve seen reviews for it and none of them said it was super hard so I never thought it was hard
Crash Bandicoot 4 Platinum makes tryhard trophy hunters give up, it's absurd how difficult it can be
Compared to say FF7 Rebirth's platinum, how hard we talking?
@@lukegarner6948 cradh bandicoot 4 is way harder than sooo many games, i havent played rebirth but harder than all other final fantasy games it is
Obviously haven’t played Spelunky 2. One of the best and hardest games ever made. The 7-99 challenge in this game is absolutely one of the most challenging “true endings” any game has ever had, and even the basic ending is really hard. Incredible game
I won’t lie, Ultrakill with its prime sanctums gets pretty hard 💀
Great video bro!
You deserve more Subs
Good luck 😊
You should play Ultrakill and try and do the p rank missions they are insanely difficult and the game in general is just amazing
You need to try hollow knight , pretty challenging game but it’s one of the most beautiful
Sekiro almost broke me, kept trying to dodge like in Bloodborne, but I came back and it finally clicked and I love it. Still my favorite FromSoft game just over Bloodborne and Elden Ring.
You should try Lies of P next, imagine Sekiro times three in terms of difficulty.
@@FelixS.That sounds horrible! 😂
@@deanlowdon8381 In parts it is 😂 it is really really brutal but it is a phenomenal game.
@@FelixS. Sekiro was already pushing the difficulty close to the edge for me, not sure I could handle anything tougher! 🙂
I watched your video with pleasure👍I like the list- it's inspiring💪
Good list. But I actually thought AC6 was easy once you figure out the right build. I platinumed it and the 2nd and 3rd playthroughs were easy boss-wise once I realized I could throw on the gatlings and use Dark Souls tactics (ie. get right up on the boss's ass and stay there).
I couldn’t even beat the first boss. No builds available. And I’m a veteran souls player.
Yup sekiro shadows die twice is a souls borne where it takes a while to git Gud at
7:11 Silent Hill 3 jumpscare? Coulda warned me at least!
11:20 Breath of The Wild jumpscare
Armor core 6 is ridiculously hard. Especially since they nerfed pretty much every good weapon. I can’t beat the fight against Snaill in one of the final missions of the first play through. It’s the only souls game that I haven’t been able to beat yet. I just can’t find a build that can beat him. He’s too damn fast and that damn beam attack with the static lightning is crazy
Mess around with your AC, go for test drives and see which one was the most efficient against that boss.
AC isn’t a souls game though
Elden Ring and Dark Souls 1 are really good places for people interested in starting those kind of games. DS 1 is easy and Elden Ring has a hard start but you can just explore and kill some mini-bosses to level up.
Plus you always have the option to summon some help if you’re really stuck.
@@deanlowdon8381 I have been stuck on Friede on DS3 for half a year. And it's not like I'm not trying haha...Looking forward to the ER DLC so much! Already bought it and I never pre-purchase anything. But Miyazaki said it was gonna be even better than the base game. To quote him when they won the award "And we have even better things to come".
Only Miyazaki and maybe Oda, the author of One piece can say that and I 100 would believe it
I couldn't agree more with the first two games on the list
Sifu for sure belongs on this list.
The problem with Nioh, or at least one of many when compared to a Souls game, is it took so much straight up grinding, hours of it, to keep up with the level of a mission/enemies
I was actually shocked by how easy most of Sifu was for me. Then again, I have platinumed Sekiro, so, that probably plays a role there lmao
I’ve found Sekiro to be easier on my steamdeck compared to my series x with wireless controller…I don’t know if the button inputs register faster or not but I could not beat Ashoka Genichiro for the life of me for over 3 years on Xbox but I beat him on my second try on my steamdeck.
I’m up at the end now past owl father. I just beat the true corrupted monk and am at the giant koi fish area.
I would recommend the new donkey Kong tropical freeze, looks simple but is super challenging
I Love indies. Challenge and wonderfull games in my opinion:
Dead cells, rogue legacy 2, HOLLOW KNIGHT, Thymesia (souls like).
You forgot Extremoth and AT Velkhana.
Celeste is one of the hardest but most fair games ive ever played. Namely some of the B, some of the C sides and the entirety of Farewell DLC
Now play Lies of P, you'll love it and it's maybe harder than Sekiro
I've played most of those games so far..and I can say I agree With you 100% they are quite haaaaard...the Good thing is that make you a better player. After playing them the average games are PRETTY easy to master
A solid underplayed game with average difficulty was SteelRising. The french soulsborn with robots that isnt lies of p.
Played it, was good but felt like the pre alpha of lop
Sekiro is soooo fun, but it's so difficult to jump back into because of the stamina mechanic.
You mean the fact you have unlimited stamina?
@@danielmccargar5385 I mean, when getting hit and deflecting, you have to manage your bar telling you how much longer you can block the attacks.
@@titaniumcranium3755that’s why you gotta parry! The game does always take me a few hours to get back into
@@titaniumcranium3755just perfect parry every attack and you don’t have to worry about it
Returnal is harder.
Getting everything, not beaten but completed in Crash 4 made me have almost no soul
I second this! I know this is kind of your thing but in the long run you will win more by keeping the mystery. Listen to us!
Hades isn’t really hard. It’s a rogue like. You level up and you get better. It doesn’t stay really hard.
Your sense of difficulty is very strange to me 😆but nonetheless, awesome video!
I remember when I first got 200% in cuphead, what an achievement, and then the dlc dropped and it was now the road to 300
I played Nioh as my first souls like game and wow that was hard but once it clicks such a enjoyable game 🙌🏼
The brainsuckers from Bloodborne made me almost throw the controller a few times when they’d stun lock me, then stun lock me again as soon as I got up. I yelled at the screen all the fuckin time
It's always funny to see how player struggle in different game.
I found returnal really easy died only 8 times to finish my first run, but next to this i could not beat the spider in Demon's soul
you have to be very raw to beat the Elden Ring DLC
"You'll look so raw" damn I haven't heard that slang in a long time lol. Used to say it way back when, now it just sounds weird lmao "raw".
The last boss in sekiro is longer to beat than some indie games
He was easily the hardest thing for me. But for the most part, I was not raging at much. Hardest fights of course the final boss was just gross, the woman who is the first skill check and owl
I had to give up on the final boss in the end. Attempted it 35-40 times and just couldn’t do it.
I've played Ghostrunner. It's not hard at all. It just requires a bit of thought. I never understood why people on the internet say that it's hard
Tf are those timestamps my guy
The hardest game i have ever played is the game I suck the most at and it is crypt of the necrodancer
I know from experience because I faced lady butterfly she's a hard boss as well as guardian and headless ape and the owl father
definitely try out Spelunky 2 if you haven't might be the hardest one I've played. Just finished all trophies + the true 7-99 ending and had almost 400 hours on the game
You can cheese some bosses in Sekiro, but yeah we're the same Sekiro is the hardest game I've ever played and I think it will remain that way for a very long time 😊
Ghostrunner 2 is a bit easier than first. I liked it more tho
Of the games I've played I think celeste and doom eternal could join the list. Haven't played hollow knight yet but I've heard it's tough. Also alien isolation completely destroyed me
Doom eternal could be difficult but you can change the difficulty in the settings. Wich makes the game not that hard compared to other games.
Yeah bro Ultra Violence on controller was brutal, couldn’t imagine myself doing a difficulty higher
Fighting Issac frost in fight night champion gotta be the hardest thing I have ever done even on the lowest diff
You said you've played 2k games. Do you have a spreadsheet or use an app to keep track?
Nah, i just remember the good ones
@@unapcgamer9042 whaaaaaaaaaat? You don't write everything you've ever done down?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? lol
I beat Armored Core but can’t really get into the Souls game because of the way the checkpoint in those games work.
Thymesia is damn fun.. highly underrated..must play for souls fans
as a dmc player, the main complaint about dmc5 is that it was way too easy, i could get through the entire game with A or S rank on stages by just mashing mindlessly.
Even after playing it for 86 hours, i still get my ass beat)
HIDEAKI ITSUNO!!! GIVE ME DEVIL MAY CRY 6, AND MY LIFE.. IS YOURS.
@@blackreaperkaneki9900 ok
i tried all nioh1 subquests and i think because of the snowprincess and the samurai boss at the same time, it is for me the hardest souls game.
