Hollow Knight is the only game I’ve ever played that I will confidently say is perfect. There is nothing wrong with it. No element that feels cheap or annoying. No part feels unnecessary or tedious. It is an absolute joy no matter how many times I play it

You and I have the exact same taste in video games my friend. I’m sad that I have missed 5 of the games on your list but also EXTREMELY excited to play them. Great video and thank you.
I know my comment was probably already said, but please play Tunic, it has that sense of exploration and combat in a well built world that is diverse yet really coherent. i haven’t played Firewatch yet but i’m going to soon and i’m so hyped about it, and i thought it was weird you didn’t mention it with how much praise it gets
Can't agree more with "entering CITY OF TEARS is an experience" and not many people talk about it . The violin gives me chills , the rainy backdrop a cozy feeling , it was sooo sooo goooood , it really made me feel sad about what city of tears once was , now what has become of it..........
Apart from ori, literally the best list ive seen of indie games. Katana zero being here is crazy. If you read your comments, some of my favorite video games you should definitely play are Everhood and hyperlight drifter.
The Dishwasher: Vampire Smile may even be more insane where it concerns VERY fast-paced 2D hacking, slashing and cubic buttloads of blood. The fact that the weapons include the likes of katanas, meat cleavers, a chainsaw prostethic, a brick on a stick wrapped in spiky bits, a giant syringe, a panini iron and more can attest to that.
All your words about Ori, and especially the final ones, completely coincide with my opinion. Favorite game, favorite series. I'm replaying it again, with the same pleasure as the first time
Nice to see recommendations from someone that is absolutely my kind of gamer. Souls like /metroidvania / platformer sidescrollers - and the ones you’ve mentioned that’s I’ve played truly are elite.
Recommending everyone to try What Remains Of Edith Finch. Yes it is a walking simulator, But its the only walking simulator i have ever loved. The story telling is just so beautiful it is a must experience.
Everything I haven't played instantly went to my wishlist. Never heard of you before, but seeing so many of my favorites in this video, we obivously get each other, so I shall trust you my man
I absolutely appreciate that my friend!! 🙏 Really hope you enjoy 😊 I'm new to youtube. I primarily make short form content, but I'm trying to be more active here!
Just like indie games are a gem, channels like yours are a hidden treasure. 100% unbiased non sponsored opinion that clearly came out from the heart and brain of a true gamer, incredible accuracy with the whole list, perfect clips showing exactly what you are talking about enough to convince anyone that is paying attention, to download and play the game. Very nice writing and straight to the point every single time. An almost 20 minutes long video that felt like every second was worth my time. Liked, subscribed and going to share this with all my friends, congratulations on your work.
Great list dude. I can back up most of these titles. Here are some suggestion you might enjoy since you placede HK in 1st place: - Yoku's island express - MV + pinball, trust me, it is amazing - Astalon Tears of the earth - Another MV masterpiece, deserves a lot more of spotlight - Prince of Persia the lost crown - HK with more budget, Ubisoft didn't drop the ball here - Tunic - still think Death's door is beter, however, Tunic is going to be right around your alley Bonus shortvania - Gato roboto, 3 hours of pure fun. Cheers from Brazil!!!
Great list, just finished Ori 2 as well. My top 10 would definitely include Disco Elsyium, Signalis and Subnautica though. You played any of them? Would love to hear your opinion
I played F.I.S.T. and omg that final boss. I played every Dark Souls, Sekiro, Elden Ring, Hades, yet that I could hardly beat that final boss after dropping difficulity to easy.
For me, my favorite Indie game experiences were definitely Hollow Knight, Outer Wilds and Subnautica. The Ori games are amazing and beautiful too especially the second one. Another game that stuck with me the past few years is Soma.
Seeing SANABI appreciation warms my heart. The mirror scene is the background of my computer and Execution of the Queens Orders is one of my favorite boss songs ever. SO good
@@jacobmstevens have you tried undertale? the story is just if you told a beginner game dev a vague description of hollow knight and asked them to make it into a game, but they actually made it well and definitely just as good as hollow knight. 10$ for the best game I've ever played story-wise and music-wise
The story telling of Blasphemous franchise is just breath taking and so deep. It's incredibly well written and composed with the art style and gory vibes. We have to give credit to it. It's hauntingly immersive, the atmosphere is just fantastic.
Glad to see Transistor on the list, totally disserved and I completely agree with you about SuperGiant Games and how they mastered not only the music but every aspects of a game (art direction, story telling, level/character/enemies design as well as the gamefeel and gameplay in general). If you enjoyed transistor's dynamic OST you will love the 2nd boss fight of Hades II where you face a band of mermaid. The whole fight is a concert with enemie's attacks synced on the music and once you kill a member of the band, their track (instrument) in the song are muted.
Hollow Knight and Ori are one of the best Games out there also as an Austrian i'm proud of Moon Studios making Ori and giving some Pride to austrian Game development
So glad to see someone giving F.I.S.T the love it deserves! What a great Metroidvania with a super satisfying Platinum Trophy, same goes for Death Door playing the whole game with just the Umbrella was really cool!
This was a great list and honestly solid picks but coming from my own subjective experience, I would have Inside in my list. I have gained a deeper appreciation for story telling and video game production because of that game coming from Insides phantasmagorical concept of visual representation and its sound design is just peak. Your channel is so underrated my man, you deserve more recognition 👏
Inside is also incredible. I totally understand!! And dude, thank you so much that means a ton to me 😁 I have been slacking posting consistently, but I am hitting it hard this year!
I’m addicted to indies too lately, most of the games I want to buy are indie. Hollow Knight is potentially my favourite game ever! I really love some of these, f.i.s.t is really fun, nice to see it mentioned.
I'm currently digging into the anniversary edition they put out a few days ago you should play it. Tons of commentary, new artwork and apparently new levels but I have yet to play those
Cuphead and Ori and will of the wisps are propably my top 2 indie games I've played. I mean... Holy shit Ori's graphics and how brautiful and detailed everything was. That's how to make a sequel that tops everything and adds even more. And Cuphead. Well, there's nothing that hasn't already said 😎🤘 Loved the hand drawn 2D animation and hand made backrounds, difficulty etc. Plus music was spot on to every level and occasion 👌👌
Super Meat Boy and Limbo opened the door for my love of indie games. But a few I’d like to shoutout that weren’t mentioned in the video/I haven’t seen in the comments: FTL: Faster than Light, Into the Breach, Slay the Spire, Neon White, the Swapper, Tinykin, and Olli Olli World. Great video.
Some great games here. Hollow Knight is also one of my favorites ever. Blasphemous, Cuphead, and Transostor are great too. I would add Shovel Knight, Outer Wilds, and Celeste as indie games that would be in my top.
Video games seldom make me cry, but Ori, partly also due to the amazing soundtrack, make me tear up on so many occasions. I don't want to spoil anything but man, definitely a tear jerker at times.

@@jacobmstevensif you enjoyed the puzzles in endgame Tunic and also like Outer Wilds you could try La Mulana 1+2. Insane games with really high challenge but they're up there with Hollow Knight imo if you enjoy deep exploration.
Great list bro!! I almost played all games and my fav are FIST, Hallow knight and Ori 🔥
i haven’t played Firewatch yet but i’m going to soon and i’m so hyped about it, and i thought it was weird you didn’t mention it with how much praise it gets
YES I love Firewatch! It was just outside my top 10. Incredible game!
Firewatch is great, love its artstyle and how the story is told
Can't agree more with "entering CITY OF TEARS is an experience" and not many people talk about it . The violin gives me chills , the rainy backdrop a cozy feeling , it was sooo sooo goooood , it really made me feel sad about what city of tears once was , now what has become of it..........
Apart from ori, literally the best list ive seen of indie games. Katana zero being here is crazy.
If you read your comments, some of my favorite video games you should definitely play are Everhood and hyperlight drifter.
Thank you so much man! 🔥 And oh absolutely will be adding these man! There are SO many to play 😁
The Dishwasher: Vampire Smile may even be more insane where it concerns VERY fast-paced 2D hacking, slashing and cubic buttloads of blood.
The fact that the weapons include the likes of katanas, meat cleavers, a chainsaw prostethic, a brick on a stick wrapped in spiky bits, a giant syringe, a panini iron and more can attest to that.
so you dont like ori, why is that?
Cool list. My top 5 is:
5. Celeste
4. Tunic
3. Enter the Gungeon
2. Hyper Light Drifter
1. Hollow Knight
Hades, celeste and dead cells shouldve been there in my list
Hades and dead cells arent even the best in their genre tbh
hades and dead cells overrated
Great video dude. I’ve played 6/7 of these and loved them all so I’m stoked to try out the other ones. 👊🏼
Awesome!! I appreciate that a ton man!! 🔥
i love how you talk about games with so much passion!
God that makes me so happy to hear man! 🔥 I genuinely just love video games, and Indies are such a huge passion of mine!!
Man of culture right here. Transistor was an absolute experience!
Just tried Valiant Hearts thanks to this video, absolutely in love with with the first hour, thank you! Great list and great video! ❤
Oh thanks man!! I appreciate that a lot! 😁 So glad you are enjoying it!
All your words about Ori, and especially the final ones, completely coincide with my opinion. Favorite game, favorite series. I'm replaying it again, with the same pleasure as the first time
They Always Run, Black Skylands and cloudpunk are some awesome indies
@@jacobmstevens I will for sure keep an eye on the channel. You deserved it, fellow OST enjoyer! 😁
I just wanted to say this completely made my day!! Thank you so much for the kind words man it means a TON 😁
Great list dude. I can back up most of these titles. Here are some suggestion you might enjoy since you placede HK in 1st place:
- Yoku's island express - MV + pinball, trust me, it is amazing
- Astalon Tears of the earth - Another MV masterpiece, deserves a lot more of spotlight
- Prince of Persia the lost crown - HK with more budget, Ubisoft didn't drop the ball here
- Tunic - still think Death's door is beter, however, Tunic is going to be right around your alley
Bonus shortvania - Gato roboto, 3 hours of pure fun.
Cheers from Brazil!!!
Katana zero was incredible!
Wish it was on playstation so i could platinum it
I FEEL this!! 🔥🔥
@jacobmstevens They said it would be released on it a long time ago, hopefully we'll see it after the dlc!
@@newuser5851 That would be amazing!!
I got a dream nail tattoo last week, so Hollow Knight has literally become a permanent part of me. That's how good this game is.
I am DYING to get a Hollow Kight tattoo! I already have bloodborne, last of us and uncharted! That's next up!! 😁
As someone who's favorite game of all time is hollow knight, you've earned a sub
Few minutes in I must subscribe your taste in games is great 😃
You are incredible 🔥🔥
I'm not gunna lie this is probably one of the best game lists I've ever seen.
I dont understand how I never see INSIDE on any of these indie lists. Game is a masterpiece
its because little nightmares exist
For me, my favorite Indie game experiences were definitely Hollow Knight, Outer Wilds and Subnautica. The Ori games are amazing and beautiful too especially the second one. Another game that stuck with me the past few years is Soma.
People should talk more about dead cells the combat, the map locations, the music everything is great in that game
Great list. I think Shovel Knight deserves to be somewhere in there
Yes I agree 100% Shovel Knight is easily on of the best games ever. So much detail in the mechanics and so much free dlc
was hoping for both guacamelee 1 and 2 to be on the list but it’s still a great one
Oh gosh those are SUCH good games! I could do a top 20 and they'd all be bangers still haha 🔥
I made a similar comment including these. The OST is an awesome mix of nostalgia and mariachi that is incredibly unique.
Our tastes aren’t exactly aligned but pretty close. Definitely going to try the couple of games you mentioned I haven’t played before. Thanks!
Awesome man!! Love to hear that 😁 Thank you so much!!
You aboslutely need to play SANABI. One of the best written stories Ive even experienced, and gameplay is also really enjoyable
I just googled it and it is going on my list RIGHT NOW 🔥🔥 Appreciate that man 😁
Seeing SANABI appreciation warms my heart.
Katana zero, mo astray, hades, hollow knight, ori, carrion, hotline miami are my indie picks
im gonna watch the vidoe but im already sure this video is gonna be great
I appreciate that man!! 😊
@@jacobmstevens love your content
The story telling of Blasphemous franchise is just breath taking and so deep. It's incredibly well written and composed with the art style and gory vibes. We have to give credit to it. It's hauntingly immersive, the atmosphere is just fantastic.
You should try Tunic as it is similar to Deaths Door.
Oh I LOVE Tunic!! 🔥🔥
Mark of the Ninja
Hollow Knight and Ori are one of the best Games out there also as an Austrian i'm proud of Moon Studios making Ori and giving some Pride to austrian Game development
If Outer Wilds is not in that list then you haven't played it. It is the only game I would put before hollow knight.
100% agree
If I could wipe the memory of any game to experience it for the first time, Outer Wilds + EotE all day
So glad to see someone giving F.I.S.T the love it deserves!
Dead cells deserves a place in this list
💯
How does dead cells deserve to be in a list of games that changed HIS life? Lol
Nope
I think my fave indie game is Carrion - simply amazing game! great concept and great ending!
People always forget about Braid, that literally kicked off the entire indie scene we see today
I'm currently digging into the anniversary edition they put out a few days ago you should play it. Tons of commentary, new artwork and apparently new levels but I have yet to play those
I think that would be cave story
It's almost strange not to see outer wilds in a indie game tier list
How is inside not on this list?
Transistor felt like something aliens made for us. Absolutely love that game
It's literally incredible!! 🔥🔥
where is the outer wilds ?? its a rule man you cant make a best indie games video without outer wilds brother
I need to finish it 😭😭😭
Annapurna is indie, but really weird to classify as indie. They release so many games per year like a AAA studio would, but still are indie.
@@jacobmstevens I'll be waiting for the outer wilds video when you finish it man!
Me too
Cuphead and Ori and will of the wisps are propably my top 2 indie games I've played.
18:50 blud didn't beat the 5th Pantheon
I do have the platinum on Hollow Knight 😁
@@jacobmstevens and you still think there's no bad boss in hollow knight? That's crazy
@@P-xM22AbsRad
@@WhatISawJuly7ththat's literally the best boss in the game. people only hate that boss because they suck at the game
Fck markoth
Nope: TUNIC is #1.
No undertale 😐😐😐
):
I mean undertale didnt change my life either i found it just an ok game
Do you what does "personal opinion" mean?
Btw, undertale is mid at best
@@pooyaaminy3135 true
Great video man. Easily my fav is Deaths Door, Hades, and/or Little Nightmares.
I also prefer Transistor to Hades! Thanks for a great list!
I bought a switch to play Zelda botw. I discovered hollow knight and have barely touched Zelda. Ori is awesome and I’m looking forward to playing FIST after watching your video. Thanks for sharing!
Great Video! It's nice to be reminded of some of these games as they fell off my radar with all the new releases!
Thank you so much man!! I appreciate that 😁
