These how a spy thinks videos has improved my spy 10 fold. Spy is my least played class, about 15 hrs and these videos are so good. You’re a good teacher and the gameplay is perfect.
Spy main/youtubers are the most intresting. Got half that are informative and play spy like how they supposed to play with little risk like Mr.P, Goldin, Woolen sleevlet and the spy mains who takes risk and make trickstab compilation that honestly never gets boring and make you want to learn it like Mr.Swipez, StaryKrow, and a lot more. And every single one has different personality. And after watching one it makes you feel "Damn mr.p sucks cuz he cant blablah" or "damn stary cant hide at all cuz blahblah". As if it is impossible to master this class. Unless your name is stabby but.... yeah
It hurts to look at old videos and see the un-nerfed Dead Ringer. I started playing after Jungle Inferno so I was never able to experience that power. It slows me down even more than the Cloak and Dagger which is really sad. As it stands though I still have great fun as Spy, so I’ll give a big thanks to you Mr. Paladin; even if the older videos make me hurt inside when it comes to the Ringer the lessons are still applicable. It’s been fun becoming a better and better spy main to the point a few recognize me in much later matches.
I know this is a late comment but the reason you can just uncloak right on a spy most of the time is a mix of the tuning out that you theorize and also because so many people assume it's an audio glitch. TF2 is buggy in a lot of ways and so if i'm spy and i hear an uncloak and it's vaguely around the same time as mine (or even on a disguise) i'd just assume the audio is tripping out but a lot of times I might not even hear it at all because my brain expects to hear it a lot and so i tune it out so i can focus on more pertinent game noises.
My overall favorite loadout hasn't really changed much. Spycicle, C&D, stock sapper, and L'Etranger. Lets me pick and choose my targets and I love how the ice statues cause paranoia. It's definitely my favorite for hanging around the enemy spawn.
i got into tf2 last year because a friend reccomended it to me and gotta say ive been hooked since. my first class was spy i knew a little about spy and his invis and stabs but didnt have the game sense i went to youtube looked up spy tips i found you. watched all of your how a spy thinks and have improved drastically and you are the reason i have now nearly have 1900 hours in the game now, so thank you for teaching me how to spy and keeping my interest in the game.
I firmly believe the standard Inviswatch is the best watch for pub play. It gives the Spy a great deal of control over when and where he's seen (fixing the main weakness of the DR) but still forces him to be productive in some way, either uncloaking to make plays or at least steal ammo packs in the enemy backline, eliminating the "I'm just gonna cloak in this corner until further notice" problem of the CnD. It keeps the player on their toes and helps them form and execute plans quickly without being cheap.
I love your vids. You made me become a better spy. I always tell my teammates that 1 good spy is perfect for 12vs12, any more than that and it just becomes overuse of the class. Yes, not having a spy on your team means the enemy team does not care about checking their backs. Having more than 1 spy though leaves your frontal forces weaker. This is something i have noticed over the course of 7 years of playing TF2.
I was playing koth and my team had 4 spies, so I asked someone to change class and some guy answered me:"I just wanna play my main" then I thinked about the old MrPaladin video about stocking classes.

There are lots of graphics configs that let you run the game on very old or slow hardware. Edit: Graphics configs (configurations) are basically a bunch of commands that make the game look slightly worse, but run better. If you know the specifications of your laptop, I could let you know what sort of graphics config to use.

My spy cosmetic loadout consists of the harmsburg, the blood banker and the dictator. Its a stylish look and the cosmetics fit so well. You can also use the cosmetics similar to those for halloween. I generally use stock, accept for my revolver. The stranger is a nice one. Quackenbirdt all the way
One small note for the last set, there is one small synergy that they do have together, albeit a very situational one. The Enforcer only gains it's damage benefits from being disguised, so stabbing someone and then turning around to shoot someone behind you loses the bonus on any other knife except the YER. So that makes it exceptionally good at one specific thing, when 2 snipers are standing in the same nest and only one of them has a razorback on, you can stab one sniper and 2 shot the other one! Other than that I suppose you could kill a med's heal target and then potentially 3 shot the med. Other than a couple of those specific situations, yeah they're p much garbage together.
I haven't played the game in about three years, and when I did play, I almost never chose Spy because I was so bad at it. But one of my favorite loadouts was the Diamondback, the Kunai, and the Stock Invis Watch. I used it as a sort of "training" tool for myself to incentivize me to learn Spy's game-sense. Diamondback to incentivize me to not only go for backstabs, but also get the saps. Kunai to teach me that Spy is supposed to be fragile and needs to be careful when he first spawns. Stock Watch to teach me the rhythm and flow, since I feel the choice of watch most heavily influences the way Spy plays. Only time it ever really worked reasonably well for me, though, was when I was playing against a friend on KotH maps, because I'd stalk them the whole match.
thier was a dumb spy when i was playing tf2 today. He attacked another player next to 2 sentries (with my included). But its nice to see these vids again. Im getting better as spy.
what I like to do is a full stock loadout (for weapons) (can have reskins) and go for sniper/spy disguises mainly(many people say scout is a great disguise but I dont like it,and I never plan to pick it unless I'm using the eternal reward),I usually change my disguises according to which enemy is the least experianced/least involved in a main fight,if my disguise isnt being played by an enemy I try to get the random name picker thing to not use one of the good enemy's names if it does I retry the disguise,I never go for the same disguise twice in a row and I usually play the part for atleast 5 secs before killing someone,ofcourse by doing that I lose many opportunities for trickstabs,normal kills or surprises but it's usually worth the target (meds,heavys or groups of enemies which dont turn around often).If I get seen I do random things while invisible and dont go for a medkit or ammobox until I'm sure that the enemy who has seen me gave up searching and I usually stand in friendly fire or places where our snipers can see.I dont like the letranger cause of the decreased damage and like the stock knife,so what do you think of my playstyle?
I think on some videos it's both, on others it's a mix like this one because he cuts parts of the footage and the voiceover is left out so that implies that he is recording individual commentary.
- I use 'The Stranger', as it allows me to be cloaked for longer, giving me more control of certain situations - I use 'Pretty fly... For a kunai', so I can sap the health of my victims, giving me more survivability - I use the stock Invis Watch to extend my cloak duration further, not only because it doesn't have the minus cloak drain rate like the Cloak and Dagger, but I can pick up ammo for cloak while I am invisible. - haha bread go chomp!!!

2 good spies can sometimes be very cool also. But only if they watch out for each others moves.

why not L'etranger with the dead ringer? they work together, because it replenishes the cloak when you need it

With the DR I usually decloak as soon as I am safe, probably because I play more aggressively. E.g. 10:59 as soon as I fall
Can someone help me? I set my cl_interp to 5 but I cant get it to switch back ti normal. It’s really messing up my gameplay of all the classes. Please help :(
