- A group has launched a recall effort for Mayor Sheng Thao just one week after an Oakland police officer was killed in the line of duty. They say the mayor has failed to control crime and that the city needs new leadership.

Oakland is already filled with way too much crimes and thefts before the current Mayor took seat. No previous Mayors could solve these criminal acts and no current or future Mayors will be able to solve these issues.

I'm confused, they do arrest those trash but the issue is the Judges who let them go. How does a Mayor have any say or power to tell a Judge to do thier job? This seems more of a judge and DA issue and nothing that a mayor can do unless she has the power to tell judges they must give a minimum sentence to criminals for certain crimes.
She promised making hiring police dispatchers her priority then shortly after that freezing permanent dispatcher positions.

I heard those who attempted to file recall blaming mayor fired police chief. That's the first approaching to solve chronic crimes in the city, she has to take action to remove policechief first. We don't know how long that police chief has been there and couldn't reduce crime. Second, she needs to search for the best police chief to replace him. Those who wasted time to recall, why not just come together as taskforce to search for a new police chief who has the ability to combat crimes? Those are the best solutions for all in Oakland.

Today's people only think of recall to solve their social issues. Yes, the Mayor is a person to complain but recall is not and will not solve the problem. I would recommend that all citizens in their constituent need to be patient and will be elected a new leader when her term is up if the city's problem is not solved. Oakland needs new leadership. The mayor is the city. The city has been gentrified but it looks worse than it ever has. Homeless encampments, trash, graffiti, outsiders committing violent crime. Even during the 90s.

As a public administrator myself, Mayor Sheng Thao has been viewed as well spoken on City Management on local television. It is time to clean house and get rid of the old administration, that's politics. The Mayor and the Police can not do it alone, communities has to united to improve the quality of life in Oakland. Recalling or impeachment is the new trend even for Democrats or Republicans Presidents. Instead of wasting time and expenses battling each other, everyone should work together to serve the community better.

She clearly doesn't have the experience to get the job done and the city hasn't had a real mayor in God knows when.She wasn't even around during Oaklands glory days.She is from Stockton and she's only what 38 years old.Oakland needs someone who knows and understands Oakland.She wasn't even born when the Raiders beat the Eagles in the super bowl back in 1981 and she was just starting school when the A's made their last world series appearance.I don't live in Oakland anymore because the city has gone down.Loosing all 3 pro sports teams and a number of businesses made me pack up..I will always love the old rebels of Oakland.

Sheng Thao specifically used Black women City of Oakland employees to illegally work on her mayoral campaign, hired another one, demand one go to Juneteenth (that she didn't want to attend BUT wanted Black votes) and then hired at least one of them. She was corrupt even before she was mayor. She fired THE BEST CHIEF OF POLICE (A BLACK MAN) & WHEN THE INVESTIGATION VINDICATED HIM REFUSED TO REHIRE HIM & RETROACTIVELY. @@teeconsigliano7631They need 25k valid signatures in a short timeframe just to get it on a ballot. That's about 250 volunteers getting 100 signatures each. Then around 90k votes may be needed to win. Will it also be a ranked choice recall. lol. Happy 2024.
