The good people of Oakland who have tried for years to make Oakland the East Bay Jewel it once was have had enough. I grew up in the East Bay. Going into Oakland or San Francisco for dinner, shopping, the Arts, Children's programs.....my heart is just broken when I look at what is now as opposed to what was....of course there have always been problems. No era is perfect. However we have got to be able to reclaim our cities from this....My prayers are with you in your effort!
Same. I grew up in the Bay Area back in the 90s and early 00s, traveling frequently between SF and Oakland, going to the games. Never did I feel unsafe. When I moved away during the end of the 00s, things started getting bad. Just poor policies to please a certain crowd...

I’m not an Oakland resident so I can’t sign or I would. However, I’m an Alameda County resident, so I have signed the petition for the DA recall. We need serious leaders who will take serious, meaningful measures to get our communities headed in a positive direction.

A year is long enough for a good leader with a plan to make changes in the right direction. Yet, all we get are excuses and finger pointing. Time to find someone else.
Maybe the mayor has only been on for a year but failing to apply for the funds to fight retail crime and firing the police chief and not having a replacement are both failures that can't be blamed on her short tenure.
However, not just the mayor, but everyone from the DA to the judges need to be changed. If anything, I think we need to err on side of going too hard on criminals then pull it back bit by bit instead of doing things gradually.

Yes. The crime was there before she took office. But it’s getting a lot worse. At the very least she could have kept the crime rate the same.
