You're spot on about having Goldeneye for the holidays. I went to my brother-in-law's for their Christmas gathering yesterday, and I was hoping the game would be out in time to play it with everyone there, as I know they loved the N64 original. That of course didn't happen. We did play some Switch Sports, but I would have preferred to blast Oddjob away.

You are absolutely not over hyping goldeneye. It was a massive deal when it released and it still has mechanics that just are not present in games today. The impact it hat, and will have is HUGE.
I agree that they ideally should release this before Christmas Eve. This brings back memories for so many families. Maybe they're having problems but they should have had plenty of time to work things out by now. Hopefully it will come out in the next few days like you said but I kinda doubt it. It'll probably be mid-January or something.
There will never be “overhype” for goldeneye. It’s footprint in fps has left a great impression that very few have adequately achieved.
A release between december 20 and 25th would be one of the greatest plot twist ever.

I have been googling about Goldeneye news for over 10 years now.
Hearing that Goldeneye is coming was a huge win. But the silence is deadly.
I don’t care about multiplayer, but I can’t wait to play Goldeneye on a modern console and bask in the nostalgic glory!
It’s so disappointing that we don’t even get a real version on switch.

Goldeneye definitely scratches a different itch from Perfect Dark.
The prototype build of Goldeneye was an on-rails shooter and it shows, the levels are very linear and the game is all about making the player feel good just spraying bullets.
Perfect Dark on the other hand is the "Gadget Simulator" and focuses on complexity of mission objectives and the cool ways weapons can be manipulated for a variety of gunplay styles and strategies. Both games stand on side by side on individual merits.

Yes. Perfect Dark is nice but Goldeneye Bond themes made it more memorable.
Perfect Dark was great on Xbox one X . That would have been the perfect time to have had Golden Eye as well.
With GoldenEye 007, I suspect that January is when it will arrive, just like with Banjo-Kazooie before it. As for Advance Wars, maybe the February Direct will answer the question?

I remember buying a green N64 and goldeneye like in 1998. Took it home and I was soooo happy. However my TV was so old that it didn’t have those white, red, and yellow ports so I couldn’t connect it lol. It only had those screw on anthana things 😂

@@kennypowers1945 "but not back then" yes back then. Hence why I said "officially existed" why would Nintendo make an RF adapter after the N64? They knew people would have this problem. You'd go to the place you got your N64 and tell them it doesn't work on your TV because it has the antenna screw, where they would refer you to an RF switch.
I want both so bad, I was hyped for Advance Wars and was pissed when it got delayed. I doubt it's canceled as there's already physical copies made and it'd just be a mega waste of money.
Goldeneye was the pinical of childhood games for me, and I'm super excited to be able to play it again.
I’ve never got to play Goldeneye ever. At all. But I really want to and if this comes out within December, that’ll be the best Christmas present ever I swear. I loved the movie especially and this game makes me more hype for its release on switch and Xbox.
It’s very strange since the announcement in September..not a scrap of news regarding Goldeneye since. I really thought this would get released during the 60th anniversary of Bond. I also thought we would see the entire Bond collection released on 4K Blu-ray too. Too much to hope for!
Love both Goldeneye and Perfect Dark, but had way more fun with PD. Excited for Goldeneye, and hoping for PD later. Release this game already. Christmas gift to us maybe?
I think for first play through GE was better cause PD was so confusing/convoluted. But for additional playthroughs and multiplayer PD > GE

No one can ever overstate the impact of GoldenEye! Still one of the best games of all time. Even if they didn't improve the AI and only the graphics and frame rate, it would be one of the best fps's to come out today

Quake is the golden standard for retro FPS remasters (Powerslave Exhumed gets props too). I would hope Goldeneye reaches those benchmarks.

I think everyone is in agreement here. Goldeneye is the perfect game for the holidays. It would revive lots of nostalgia with people, and if its released in January then I feel it was a wasted opportunity to be honest. What also worries me too, is there a certain length of time that we can play this game for, like is the license only gonna be for a couple of years?

Looks like they’re doing the same thing Dotemu did with TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge. They didn’t mention its release date until days before it came out. Hopefully they’ll release 007 before Christmas, on Christmas Day or at the latest by New Years.

Today is the 25th anniversary of the film release of Tomorrow Never Dies, and would be the perfect time to announce/release the game. 25 years ago I was a senior in high school and the 1-2 punch of the game and the movie coming out was a huge moment for me as a Bond fan and video game fan, second only to the 1-2 punch of the Wii being released at the same time as Casino Royale in 2006.
The bond games after pierce brosnan were trash tho lol. Only brosnan had the good ones

Well Goldeneye 007s 25rh anniversary came and went with no news, then James Bonds 60th anniversary in film came and went, no news on Goldeneye....
They don't care about being thematic with their info and release. Due to legal stipulations, the release of the game is on its own schedule.

The Japanese Nintendo direct in September had Goldeneye for a 2023 release. But it said coming soon for the US direct... I would assume the game would launch globally at the same time, so not sure why it said coming soon for one direct, but 2023 for another.

I dont think is happening until they really optimize it, The switch on the virtual console will be only using 1020mhz cpu clock speed, and even on 2ghz in android it runs bad.

The advanced wars delay was stupid. Especially when stranger things was able to release their season with no issues. As far as goldeneye, they never officially said it was coming out this year.

I thought that it would be out by now. Maybe Nintendo thinks that Godeneye would satiate gamers too well and they wouldn't want to purchase games this holiday season.
when the trailer for Goldeneye said "coming soon", it may as well have said "we don't have a release date in mind at all. stay tuned". i'm going to be getting it on Xbox as it will be included in the Rare Replay collection which i already own and likely NOT on its own. it will have a smoother framerate (that doesn't mean it will be 60 FPS though). sure, it'd be dumb for them to not have it run in 60 fps but then again it'd be dumb for Rare to not to release the proper leaked remaster of the game too but here we are.
Yeah, I was going to mention this. I believe the Xbox version will be 30fps. If it was going to be 60fps, I feel like they would have just said so because that is something you do when you know your game runs at 60. And they specifically felt that it was important to say it will run at 4K. Why would you feel the need to point out that it will run in 4K but not go into specifics about the framerate? To me, that sounds like they were trying to highlight the good news (4K) and downplay the bad news (30fps). I despise Nintendo for how this has turned out. I actually just ordered my first gaming PC in over a decade and one of the main things I plan to do is play the leaked version of Goldeneye Remastered.
@Therealgamer For the same reason there is no online play. For the same reason we aren't getting the remaster. For the same reason Microsoft wanted to release this in 2007 but we had to wait until now. Because Nintendo said so.

Nintendo not releasing Advanced War is just virtue signaling. Plenty of other game similar to it, heck even COD came out, so there's no reason for Nintendo not releasing Advanced War.

Adding multiplayer to a game that is 20 years old is going to be a challenge. The multiplayer part of the game is probably going to be completely re built so mid 2023 seems to be the most realistic timeframe imo
Goldeneye was confirmed a while back it would be put in 2023. Advance Wars, as much as I want it also, was also noted to be 2023 earliest.
Seems to me, they are holding all these games for a new system. Donkey Kong,TOTK, advance wars, 007, Metroid prime remake, Metroid prime 4, twilight princess, wind waker, 2D Mario, Harry Potter, call of duty,
Disney illusion island, kid Icarus, LOTR Gollum, overwatch 2,Star Wars hunters. etc.

I'd bet Golden Eye is buried in some license issues. It's the reason why the 2011 Xbox live one was never released, as the leaked one appeared to be complete/almost complete and fully running. I have been thinking about re-playing the N64 version for over a year but, I am another one waiting it to show up on the Xbox.

It's finally officially coming and the 2008 version (being called 2011 for some reason) will never release due to it being developed without all rights holders knowledge.

Your right, after so many years of non use, they expire but, James Bond movies come out all the time, never mind the music in the game is copyrighted (and every time they use it in a newer movie, it renews the rights). It might not be the license with Goldeneye itself, it's James Bond with the 007 theme music and that would STOP it unless they have the rights to re-release it. The game would not be the same without James Bond.

Honestly I would have much rather had the unreleased Xbox arcade version with the updated graphics over the original.. Even if it was that version which is basically outdated now, but still would have been sweet to have a different version of the game!

The Japanese direct literally said goldeneye was releasing in 2023, just expect it in june or july once they get through their other announced n64 games

Just found out about this remake in 2023, really surprised there hasn’t been any word since September of 2022
Personalty I don't think goldeneye needs texture enhancement it already have smooth texture and look pretty good on emulator in 8k@60fps. I would like to see 120+fps and online multiplayer + splitscreen. For bot multiplayer I use a patch called Goldeneye X beta project actualy is perfect dark but with goldeneye theme it feel en play like goldeneye got all original maps(and more), sound and music + reloading animation for all guns
Right on. As minimalist as the Xbox version might be, it's still gonna be a smooth running N64 game.

The 'coming soon' release isn't even the issue. Its the fact it's not going to be the remaster. It's just the N64 version with a bit of upscaling.
Makes zero sense when we all know that the remaster exists and is fully playable.
There is all sorts of legal stipulations Goldeneye is tangled up in. Nintendo doesn't want the Xbox version being the far superior remastered version form 2008 while they port the N64 version to their service. Nintendo are clenching the publishing rights to anything called "Goldeneye 007" for dear life it seems.

@@sperrin Unfortunately there are several reasons. The remaster was made under Microsofts order without telling Nintendo. I'm sure the Switch could run it, but there is too much red tape around that version to ever see an official release.
@@PP7Silenced Of all the red tape surrounding this, letting Nintendo have the remaster is the easiest to cut through.
If between Microsoft, Nintendo and MGM/Ion, they can allow the Bond license to be used, clear all the actor's likenesses. If MS can finally get Nintendo to give up and share their involvement with MS. Having the remaster on Switch is nothing by comparison.
