My brothers and I have enjoyed the Gran Turismo games over the years with my favorite moment being in GT6 against my younger brother. My bad driving self would max out the speed of the Veyron, hitting upwards of 300mph and then SLAM into the wall at the end 🤣. This happened nearly every time I got to the end of that straightway, which you actually have to slow down considerably as there was a hairpin right turn into a tunnel. We kept sliding into each other's slipstream, which would launch us temporarily past the other. The final stretch to the finish line was another straightway so we kept going back and forth of who was in first. Finally, we both crossed the finish line at what looked to be the same time...until I came up as the winner. That was awesome enough, but then I hear the ping of winning a trophy for PlayStation...and saw there was one for winning a race by 1/1000th of a second. That made both of us cheer and high-five. That was what I cherished most about that moment. Couldn't have done it without being pushed to drive better by my little bro 😊. Really wish I'd have saved the replay, it was hilarious.
@@Davinhomx To each their own, I don't have much of an opinion on the world of racing games, lol. It's just what my family stumbled into and so, out of familiarity and fondness, it's about the only racing games we get (well, and the odd Need for Speed game when we had our PS2).

As someone who drives 12 miles to work every day, hearing that about the weather modeling thrills me to no end. The idea of racing from sun through rain and back to sun is absolutely awesome. 👌
@@Pinkblack-r9g it just means "this specific thing speaks to me personally." as someone who frequently feels frustrated by people not understanding seemingly obvious things in youtube comments, your confusion over why people say that stuck out to me lol
“That sounds great” Luke says to Mike as Mike describes the acoustic enhancements … cut to their faces and I see they both missed the pun so mighty you could’ve used it in an engine swap with a Bugatti Veyron! Luke… being punny even subconsciously. Look out Ellen, he’s coming for your crown.
This could be the racing game of the year for me, if I really get a game with good (cosmetic) tuning, GT6 Level of car selection and when I get bored of being a tuner, I can go and have a clean high level Gt3 race. Also the little animations are great.
I love that even though Luke has been converted to the side of racing by Mike, there are still some areas where Mike is much nerdier about car stuff than Luke, like with the star map (which is something that I personally enjoy)
I am so saddened by always having to choose between 4k or ray tracing and 60fps. While the star thing is cool, as is the reverb, and the weather, and the dynamic clouds, I would turn all of those off in a heartbeat if I could have ray tracing at 60fps. This was supposed to be the console generation that did that : (
Loved this video despite having little interest in playing the game. It's not enough to say people talking about what they're nerdy about is what makes this entertaining but also your personalities and dynamics with each other makes this video shine so much. It's mimicing the type of relationships I want to have more of in my own life. To just laugh and nerd out and make jokes. I can't tell you how much this video made me smile. More of this please!
As a huge nerd of certain things, but does not know anything about this nerd-world, I'm excited for you. It's great hearing people talk in detail about things they love, even if I don't understand any of it.
has there ever been a car that you've like or that has stuck out to you? Have you yourself ever sped in a car, or gotten the ass end sideways in a snowy parking lot or ripped around on a back road? Because those are usually the things that make us car people into lifelong lovers of everything automotive. That or a parent who's into those things
@@jacobl6714 the only time I've ever gone sideways on an icy road, I spun my car 540° and ended up in a ditch facing the wrong way. For me, cars are a tool to get from point A to point B, and as long as they work, I'm happy. My nerdiness is more in entertainment/hobbies. I'm glad we can all love what we love and encourage one another in it!
What I'm hoping for is 24h races in realtime, and then the option to save progress from that race. So you can do bits of one race. Either gt6 or gt5 had that option
Mike getting all excited and car nerdy about the fine intricacies of jamming different engines into cars warms my cold, dead petrolhead heart Edit “it has to be direct drive” *happy broadbent noises
I don't know about or play racing games, BUT I love listening to people talk about their passions. And Mike is clearly passionate about racing, therefore I am delighted to listen.
Great video, guys ^^ Also regarding point 4: I've been playing Forza Horizon 4 on my PC...First I started using the DualShock 4, but then after getting a PS5 I started using the DualSense...It makes a MASSIVE difference! The more advanced stuff like trigger resistance doesn't come into play (maybe because features like that are very PS5-specific), but the controller works like an extension of the sound, through the vibrations...Definitely work trying out, if anything, to get a sense (pun intended) of what to expect with driving using a DualSense ^^ Also great for massaging hard-worked hands XD
I'm a Lando fan and though I'm not a Verstappen fan, I wanted Hamilton to not win just so we can get a different winner (nothing against Hamilton, I just don't like domination in sports). That was a double whammy of hurt. I cried when I saw Lando crying in the post race interview.
Also, I would be excited by accurate tides in a game. I've spent quite a bit of time by the sea; having inaccurate (or no) tides is like having a day/night cycle where there's no colour or brighntess shift at sunrise or sunset, just the sun appearing and disappearing and instantly fading the brightness levels to 'day' or 'night' values. It's fine, but at the same time it really does hammer home that this is only an abstract representation of a thing, rather than an attempt to depict it as it actually exists.
Under halfway through the video and already have learned things I've not learned in dozens of other videos. Well done guys this is a tremendous little video!
9:02 Sounds exciting. Unfortunately, I typically play racing games with the assists switched off as default. Can't appreciate the feedback from the ABS if you don't use ABS in the first place.
There were multiple instances in this video that I legitimately could have been fooled to think the footage was from real life. That's truly mind-boggling.
When I watched the State of Play (where this footage is from) I'm pretty sure my mouth was open in awe for a good portion of it. I really had to convince myself I wasn't just watching actual track footage instead of a gameplay capture. The details with the puddles and such are especially convincing.
That beetle made me nostalgic for the old 90's green "vocho" taxis in Mexico City, they were an icon and a very cheap and versatile car, also very bad for the air quality.
I'd say the Porsche 911 engine into a Beetle is more to do with the fact that they're both rear engined rather that owned in partnership by their two perspective companies 🤔😀🤘 .
Speaking of DD wheels, there's a new "package" from Fanatec that offers 1k+ pound quality force feedback and hardware in a 500-600 pound package. Wheel base: CSL DD Wheel: McLaren GT3 V2 (for formula series), WRC wheel (for other driving) Pedals: CSL pedals (if you want a clutch, it's generally recommended to buy the Load Cell brake and convert the original CSL brake pedal into the clutch). The ClubSport pedals are pretty good too.
It's great to see Mike nerd out about cars IRL and in video games, because it gives us a glimpse into the diverse interests and knowledge all the OxBox cast bring to the channel besides their love of video games. One of my favorite segments is Mike and Andy at E3 2016, discussing the (then) new Project Scorpio aka XB1X. Mike went into the technical aspects and what it meant for the future of games as well as the uncertain future of MS, at the time. I wish they'd let Mike do technical videos that explain things like Ray Tracing, SSDs, anti-aliasing, etc. because his background was a technical consumer electronics reviewer before he joined OxBox.
I don't think it's so much "let" as constantly having to chase views. UA-cam is brutal at punishing you for videos that don't perform so putting time into something that may get them little to nothing back is a risk.
To be fair, a lot of people who ARE rich enough to drive three-quarter of a million pound supercars DO dress like Mike. I mean, have you seen how half of the rich dudes in Silicon Valley dress?
3:31 you could do this on GT 5 with certain cars, I remember I loved doing it in online races, mostly when I was ahead of the second but something close so he could see me doing it, it was a way to show off
I know that it is not in the game until a later update, so it doesn't really fit this list, but Sophy is probably the nerdiest thing ever added to a video game full stop. Arguably the most advanced Machine Learning program on the planet will be driving cars around in a video game.
For a moment I wondered how Mike had gotten Luke and Ellen away from the purple couch. It seems he only fooled Ellen, as he told her that her autographed copy of Kingdoms of Amalur Remastered was at the door. Sneaky Mike- really sneaky...
They may have ray tracing, but do they have tray racing? Can I finally live my dream of breaking loose from the IKEA refectory and tearing a hot lap around all the furniture sections with one of those weird little servery trolleys they have there?
Thing is I'm crap at racing games and don't really have much interest in cars at all but I absolutely love hearing people talk about how cool racing games are because the sheer passion and detail that goes into it is mind boggling. Also it seems like a cool thing to get my dad because he's definitely a car guy even if I'm not haha
@@toymachine2328 it's out on PS4, so worst case, those are easier to find. Gran Turismo is also PlayStation's most profitable series, so compared to other exclusives, I could see it on PC
I really wish demo's were still a thing. Next best thing for Gran Turismo (on PS4/5) would probably be checking out GT Sport, it goes on sale often, it's not got the same depth of features as a main series entry but still has a significant amount of single player content, despite being focused on online play. I've found it enjoyable enough even without PS+ and I've probably put as many hours into GT Sport as any of the main entries in the series (mostly because it's been the only GT game on PS4 but still). The one big potential downside of GT Sport is that it is always requires an internet connection and PSN account (not PS+, just a basic account) even if you never touch the multiplayer content. Unless you have pretty patchy internet it's not really an issue, but something to be aware of.
Ah yeah, the second i saw this pop up in my notifications, i was like " I can't wait to hear Mike talk about cars for 20 mins while others smile and nod"
I‘m currently thinking about getting a new racing game and this one seems like a pretty good choice…but I couldn’t find out about one crucial detail…do you have to play in first person mode from inside the car or do you have the option to use third person view??? And is there a open world to drive around in for fun outside the races???
Ngl, that accurate star mapping is insane. Imagining playing this in VR, I might just crash endlessly just because I'm looking at the sky rather than the track, lol.
I feel as though Mike Channell will appreciate this, a friend of mine was teaching me the ins-and-outs way back when Forza 3 was fresh on the release calendar and they had already put enough time in the game to put a GT-R engine into the Datsun 510 and SMOKED me in a drag race

@@Davinhomx To each their own, I don't have much of an opinion on the world of racing games, lol. It's just what my family stumbled into and so, out of familiarity and fondness, it's about the only racing games we get (well, and the odd Need for Speed game when we had our PS2).
Old timey authentic racer: "this track only seems to go one way, but I must stop and use my trusty sextant to navigate this racing world. The tracks have lead my astray before, but never again..."
Gazes pensively off into the distance as he gets lapped for the 100th time.
@@Pinkblack-r9g as someone thats recently farded and shidded, i agree
“That sounds great” Luke says to Mike as Mike describes the acoustic enhancements … cut to their faces and I see they both missed the pun so mighty you could’ve used it in an engine swap with a Bugatti Veyron! Luke… being punny even subconsciously. Look out Ellen, he’s coming for your crown.
This could be the racing game of the year for me, if I really get a game with good (cosmetic) tuning, GT6 Level of car selection and when I get bored of being a tuner, I can go and have a clean high level Gt3 race. Also the little animations are great.
This wil be the racing game of the decade
Today I learned what anti-lock brakes actually do.
OX: Informational AND Educational!
Also in GT6, you could actually drive the Lunar Rover on the Moon, with micro gravity and everything. It was quite challenging actually.
This was supposed to be the console generation that did that : (
I'm so happy for Mike that he has been able to drag Luke into his niche F1/Video Game corner and share that love.
Listening to Mike talk about car games is weirdly one of my favourite things.
I cannot wait for this,I have it downloaded already on my PS5
What I'm hoping for is 24h races in realtime, and then the option to save progress from that race. So you can do bits of one race. Either gt6 or gt5 had that option
O thought that mike dressed like that because he spent all his money on a 3/4 of a million super car
Mike getting all excited and car nerdy about the fine intricacies of jamming different engines into cars warms my cold, dead petrolhead heart
Edit “it has to be direct drive”
*happy broadbent noises
I don't know about or play racing games, BUT I love listening to people talk about their passions. And Mike is clearly passionate about racing, therefore I am delighted to listen.
I feel like I could watch a show solely based on two characters having a Mike-Luke dynamic. Just brilliant.
2nd star to the left and straight on to the finish line
I feel like if Mike was a billionaire, he'd still wear exactly the same clothes.
still feel that pain for Lando to this day and I'm a Lewis fan
Ellen laughing in the background was the best part of this video
You guys are such a fun bunch. I love tuning in each week to see what you all are up to.
This is great, for all of those into cars, romantically.
I'm with Ellen, I can't even drive. Always nice to watch people nerding out though.
Almost at 1M subs!😮 Congrats in advance
After watching that, is anyone else really worried that we might just all be carefully modelled NPCs living in Gran Turismo 12?
Worried? I'm hoping now
That beetle made me nostalgic for the old 90's green "vocho" taxis in Mexico City, they were an icon and a very cheap and versatile car, also very bad for the air quality.
You should check out Forza Horizon 5, if you haven't already.
I'd say the Porsche 911 engine into a Beetle is more to do with the fact that they're both rear engined rather that owned in partnership by their two perspective companies 🤔😀🤘 .
For the accurate star mapping, you forgot to mention how much the moon will affect lighting in the night races.
Force feedback is so important for grip. I can't drift without it. Gotta feel that edge.
Thanks. I now got to see ads related to car racing. At least they're better than those deeply weird mobile game ads.
Speaking of DD wheels, there's a new "package" from Fanatec that offers 1k+ pound quality force feedback and hardware in a 500-600 pound package.
Wheel base: CSL DD
Wheel: McLaren GT3 V2 (for formula series), WRC wheel (for other driving)
Pedals: CSL pedals (if you want a clutch, it's generally recommended to buy the Load Cell brake and convert the original CSL brake pedal into the clutch).
(me) "Gotta watch all the car videos so Mike knows his skills and interests are appreciated"
To be fair, a lot of people who ARE rich enough to drive three-quarter of a million pound supercars DO dress like Mike. I mean, have you seen how half of the rich dudes in Silicon Valley dress?
1:45 I would stretch out my BMW until its as wide as the track so no one ever passed me.
The M8 has entered the chat
Love Luke's face at the beginning. "Luke, there's a lot of information..." and Luke goes: "Oh, sh...". Good video, BTW.
3:31 you could do this on GT 5 with certain cars, I remember I loved doing it in online races, mostly when I was ahead of the second but something close so he could see me doing it, it was a way to show off
Thank you Mike. Cars might not be my thing, but it is cool to see someone talk about something they clearly enjoy so much
All that pain and heartbreak came flooding back when Mike mentioned Lando Norris. I cried seeing him cry in the post-race interview.
Just got recommended the channel, excellent video, Subscribed!
If anyone other then Oxboxtra had posted this I would absolutely not have watched this. But I'm glad I did. It was fun, educational, and hilarious
I wish I had Adaptive ABS. This lockdown gut ain't gonna look very appealing at the beach.
Mike nerding around about cars made my day so much better 🥰
Looking forward to Failrace playing with the suspension tuning to see which cars will flip reliably.
You can even see astronots heading to the moon.
I'm kidding, love the detail in this game.
All of this New features are cool, but did they change the Ugly sound that tires make when they lost grip?
So happy to hear about engine swaps being implemented. That's a good start and hope that it gets in depth over time.
I hope they make a demo for this game, since I'm massively tempted, but never played a Gran Turismo lol
I hope they port it to PC, too, I haven't picked up a PS5, yet.
@@NihilistCrab ironically enough, Cyberpunk just put out a demo. I'll have to see if Sport is easy to come by at some point for me to try, thanks
In my mind transportation peaked with the penny-farthing and has yet to be topped, however I genuinely love hearing Mike talk about cars, the pure glee is infectious
Me: This looks great. Will it also be fun?
Sony: What do you mean?
I love how Mike is passionate about cars!!
Them using Gran Turismo 6's ost is giving me nostalgia
I'm getting Gt7 on Ps4 on release date, when i eventually get a Ps5 will all the extra Ps5 features, eg the Ray tracing and ABS feedback etc be available or will i actually have to buy the Ps5 version too?
Have to say, was not expecting accurate astronomy!
Thank you Mike n Luke. This was an awesome review (sneak peek) for GT7. Now I gotta get me a PS5. I been playing GT6 on PS4 pro and I think I've been under-experiencing the goodness of this game (esp the haptic feedback vybe) Watching this made me feel I been missing out on alot. Its the real, ideal racing simulator. Y'all made great key points. Kudos fam, please do more reviews like this 🙏 Greetings all the way from 🇰🇪... & and a big S/O to Ellen n the rest of the team. Cheers!!!
Andy on seeing the video "My God, there's two of them...."
Having started on Pole Position, GT 7 is completely and utterly MINDBLOWING. I’ve never felt luckier to own a PS5.
I loved watching this, and I'm hoping we'll see some gameplay/reviews from Mike and/or Luke when GT7 releases. I've been holding off on getting a racing game, but the small car nerd part of me is very excited for this game. I don't think I'll spring for a pre-order given I already did that for Elden Ring and should save money for a bit, but I am very much looking forward to GT7 and what people, mainly Mike, think about it. The State of Play for it was awesome, and I like the nerdy car history/cafe part as well.
I also want to see how the game is when not playing it multiplayer since I don't have a desire to get a PS+ account (I don't play games with mandatory multiplayer).
I didn’t realize how far GT graphics have come until I saw the exact interior of my Mazda, right down to the UI of the digital display.
Clicked on he link expecting to see Mike. Wasn't disappointed. Got Ellen's cameo, a pleasant surprise. Thought, ok why's Luke there too? Then watched enough to realize they were getting Mike to talk cars to Luke enough to get him to 13:26.
That was the best advertisement for Play Station 5 I have seen. If I could find one in a shop I would definitely buy one.
What I'm getting from this is: Mike has a three-quarter of a million pound supercar.
Hoping for an Oxboxtra race series, similar to the Mario Golf tournament a while back.
Its basically gran turismo remastered. So much nostalgia lol. Even the animations when you upgrade the cars lol.
Yes Luke! Some drivers do prefer to navigate by the Pole Star! That’s why races always start with one car in …. THE POLE POSITION!!!!! 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
Ive been waiting for a full fledged gt game for the longest man i cant wait
The replays were edited to the music in GT4. Just select "synchronised replay" by pressing square.
i love when people include GT music int there videos. especially GT 5 music
I haven't played racing games for years, but I might have to check this out
