"We're gonna change your action because you're gonna fall asleep someplace back here", such a brilliant way to describe tempo and speed in short game. Oh man. What a gem.
Wow wow one of those uploads that you just don’t want to end, it’s one where you could have taken a seat on the grass to watch and listen to everything unedited. Thank you TXG Thank you Gareth. 👍👍👍
"Striking the match" revolutionized my sand game. Literally transformed it in one practice session. I went from struggling to even move the ball to being confident I can get it out in one swing everytime. I never thought to apply it to pitch shots. I'm looking forward to experimenting
Took this idea out to the course today and I can say that with minimal practice and minimal prep it worked great. I got up and down 4 or 5 times today using this technique. I'm very happy that I watched this video.
😳wow! I ran into this video last night took this drill @ 5:45 straight into my golf round this morning without practicing it, and it was amazing, easily shaved down at least 5-10 strokes off my game 👍 thanks a lot for this video, my golf game appreciate it tremendously 🙌👏
It took me years to figure out this very pitch swing before the internet. This is one of the most important lessons for most golfers. Replay as necessary. Ian figured out the sternum forward was the key and he is so right!
Love that the guests are back! Dont get me wrong i love all your content, but i love to see you get better and helping others get better ! Cheers from denmark 🍻
Many thanks to you and Gareth for presenting this valuable pitching lesson to the masses in an understandable way. After watching I walked over to a local field and applied the technique the best I could remember. Very pleased with the results. The first group of 18 balls placed 16 in a 10 foot circle at 15 yards, with no gross mishits. This is a huge step forward. Looking forward to more solid instruction content that does not require a launch monitor, a glossary, and a physics text.
Was yipping with two hands. Went to one handed on the course and now using it permanently. Anything from about 50 yards and in, including bunkers. Complete game changer for me.
TXG, Ian & Gareth thank you & did I say thank you. This short game video is the holy grail, man I am one of millions likely of the short game yips, head scratches and swearing. This video is worth everything. I had have put all this into practice and my lawn has felt the brunt of it lol! But I tell you i feel it has completed my game. Many thanks and Stay Safe.
This actually makes so much sense ...short game is feel and vision...feeling the clubhead literally just drop onto the ball creates incredible control and spin ...it just takes confidence to do it on the course rather than revert to type
Wow! I just put these techniques into practice on the course today and what a difference it has made to my short game already! The most informative and useful video for golf I have seen on UA-cam. Thanks so much and keep up the great content.
This may not have been intended but, as great a lesson this is on chipping and wedge game it, it was also a great lesson on how to provide feedback during a lesson as a learner. Sometimes in lessons I feel very passive, trying to actively receive knowledge and instruction but I don't really provide feedback unless prompted. Love all the content guys, thanks you!
Great video guys. The flicky hands i learnt in the garden chipping over the pool when young are exactly what Gareth articulated there. Yay something in my golf game is good! 🤣 Thanks Gareth and Ian.
My coach has been asking me to practice one handed and I’ve struggled to manage my low point consistently feeling my left hand has far too much influence. Really fascinating and will try Gareth’s advice. Looked real good. Many thanks
Ian you're such a good golfer. Thanks for SHARING your knowledge of equipment. No question you'll get your SG sorted if you only have the time/space to work on it. Harvey Pennick once said the diff between a scratch golfer and a 6 is that the scratch makes the time to keep sharp. Clearly you're a strong golfer it's probably the lack of time that's impacting you the most. I'd be curious to hear any updates on your SG development as we go. Thanks again for all the knowledge.
@ianfraser thanks for your honesty in posting this as a vulnerability. Finally a small section of your game that I'm not completely envious of!😁. Great stuff, and thanks to Gareth
Nice content. Had been spending time in the house on the door mat and area rug with a gap wedge and wiffle practice balls. Similar thought process helped to manage low point. Was complimented at the pitching and chipping area at the golf course (which was a switch). When he asked how I learned, I told the guy (a relative beginner looking to get more serious) to make sure he was maintaining speed through impact and becoming more aware of and managing low point. Glad I didn’t steer him wrong.
So awesome. When watching Ian, he seems very robotic in certain parts of his game/moves. Since he knows so much about this stuff, I think that makes him think too much and results in a sort of rigidness in his game. Glad to see Gareth get some flow in there!
Any chance reviewing some short game shafts for the more budget conscious of us in the UK - such as the KBS one step putter shaft as a £60 alternative to the BGT stability shaft? Great video. Love it when Gareth pops in. His advice and drills are invaluable. Keep it up boys!
Great video lesson. This was the same issue I’ve always had, to long and low on takeaway making my low point all over the place. I’m anxious to test this method.
Really interesting lesson thanks for posting. I see many players with lack of loading and unloading in the wrists to create speed on short shots. This was really interesting. Thanks again 👍
Great videos. So many different ways to tackle the short game. I love learning all of them. I'm a hardcore handle dragger so this feel would be completely foreign to me as well.
Funny that we use the same lawnmower feel for different reasons - I need some scapular retraction on the takeaway. I think we also struggle with resistance to the "flip" since we've been taught to "hold the angles." We power all motions with the body and makes us a bit stiff. Interested in seeing how this progresses. Thanks, Ian.
man ian this one hits hard for me. i’m a hand dragger too. i’m terrified of setting club and letting it release from such a short distance. tyler mcghie and i will be working on that this year. it’s the biggest blight on my game right now, but i’m also scared about committing to the practice and process. i’m looking forward to following your journey!
@@ianfrasergolf could you plz give me a nudge in the right direction. Which did you guys prefer between sub 70 699s and haywood signature? Even if you send me a message or anything it would be much appreciated. It's a lot of money that I'm ready to spend and would love the input. I wasn't too fond of the rounded shape on the bottom of the face into the sole on the 699s but wondering if you guys got anything else for me. Much appreciated again!
As a decent driver and ball-striker with an absolutely abysmal short game, I felt this one in my soul. Also, the Frankenwedge has some gears moving in my head, thinking I might chop shop an old 60-degree sometime soon.
Means to keep the grip super light, at the point where you might let go if you gripped it any lighter. Leads to less tension and a nice flowing arc for the club head
Very good drill. That said, one's interaction with actual grass will also play a major roll in sticking the ball with proper impact. Hence, managing heal strike and leading edge dig will require attention.
Awesome video guys, thanks! Curious, does that new technique make you think about wedge shaft weight any differently? Or just the same to allow the weight to drive the motion?
Lol!!! Great spot Kyle!! 👏🏻👏🏻 The reason Gareth was swing his club so quickly is that it's 1.5” shorter and half the weight of mine. We discuss shaft weight in the next video. 👍🏻
I think the only thing I'm missing from this lesson is the "Why." What shot am I trying to produce with this method? More spin for a lofted shot? How reproducible will this shot be compared to the initial longer swings from the beginning of the video?
Let your hips turn after contact then you wont look so flippy. I like the loose grip at impact thing. I do that with my driver and irons on good lies. It generates more speed. I also only grip with pinkies and ring fingers so the wrist is more free like a finely lubed bearing letting the shaft freely whip. Squeezing even lightly with middle finger tightens wrist. Squeezing with index finger severely puts the brakes on the whip. These are swinger tips. There are swingers and there are hitters.
Guys I have a big question that I need help with. About to purchase iron set, and if you wouldn't mind telling me, which did you prefer between the sub 70 699s and the haywood signatures? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks and keep up the great work!
I don't understand how this isn't the biggest golf channel on YT. One of the only ones actually delivering useful content.
Now we're talking! Gareth is back... he's been excellent in previous videos Ian/Matty. Thanks! Thanks Gareth!

what a great comparison to striking a match and allowing the club to fall down... something to try out over the weekend!
