    Great to hear a teacher say the most important thing is "can you aim your putter". If you're not aiming your putter where you think it's aiming nothing else matters. Fantastic video.

    Thank you Gentlemen, I have played golf my whole life, on 4 different continents, and have learned, since I started to follow TXG, how little I really understood the nuts and bolts of the game. Gareth is a gem, and you guys are stars for putting all of this great, extremely interesting information out to us. Thank you kindly.

    Another excellent piece of content guys. Gareth provides such simple ways of checking/altering fundamentals that can influence everything that comes after and his explanations are so clear they are very easy to understand and replicate. I just spent 30 minutes using these alignment and face angle checks and discovered a simple correction almost immediately. The big discovery was that my set-up put my eyes too far forward (past the ball). Because I was always missing to the left (RH golfer) I had developed a habit of aligning to the right of target. Using Gareth's alignment exercise I found the correct set-up and eye position and now there is no second-guessing the line. All I need to do now is practice it more to embed it as my new set up. Pleasingly, I confirmed my ball position, stroke and choice of putter seem pretty good - I can consistently keep the ball on a 27" x 3/4" ruler. A quick 10 minute session and I didn't miss my target (an egg cup) once from a 10' to 15' range. I reckon I'll save up to 3 puts a rounds with this simple correction. I'm stoked. Would love to see more content with Gareth. Loved the two chipping sessions too - real game changers for me. Cheers.

    I have been missing a lot of short putts to the left as I have been pulling my putts. I believe that you have confirmed what I have been thinking that it is the ball position in my stance. I'm really going to practice on getting that ball in the middle of my stance more consistently to see if that helps address at least one aspect of variation in my putting. Thanks guys!

    Ian - when you fit my own putter to me it made a world of difference. Basically took 2.5 degrees off my Scotty Cameron so the ball started rolling quicker and not launching it.
    Everyone - if you haven't had a putter fitting, I highly recommend seeing TXG or another qualified fitter. Can't say enough about how much it helps. Then it's just everything else ;)

    Great insights. I have often found that my stroke feels pretty good and my line ends up actually pretty consistent when I close my eyes and just putt based on feel and muscle memory. However, when I try to line up the same putt, I often find myself pushing putts and missing right. Now that he's mentioned it, it does feel like I'm manipulating the stroke a bit to compensate for a perceived alignment issue. Will be good to put this to the test during the next practice session.

    Wow, another great video. My issue is that I am able to align myself really well for long shots, but I must be getting some sort of parallax alignment issue on short shots. I can hit it dead straight along the ruler, but the closer I am to the hole, the more my alignment is off. Any tips for that? Use the ruler test to calibrate my vision for various distances to see how the short ones differ?

    Mat (or Gareth you can pass this along to him)...I'm 10 minutes in and TO GET REPEATABLE ON SETUP--- what you can do is put the tip of the putter at the edge of the ball closest to you then take your putter again from the bottom of your putter and measure the distance from your tips of your toes to the other measurement. THEN you have a repeatable setup when on the course.

    I’ve been fighting this for years!!! My eyes line me up left of target (righty golfer), then I stroke putt after putt from 10’ grooving a push to the hole. Then, using line on the ball with line on the putter “looks” right of target to me so my brain does all sorts of awefulness to my stroke (especially) as I get closer to the hole. Moving away from the ball for me has helped, and I’m currently trying to retrain my eyes at home this winter with a putting mirror, laser and camera. This video pops up and confirmed everything! Hope all my hard work translates to the greens this year and I’m really looking forward to the upcoming putter head and neck videos to hopefully confirm what I think I already think I know🤣. Or maybe it opens me up to try something else that even works better. Silly game

  • @justinm4801
    @justinm4801 2 роки тому

    I tend to be fine aiming and aligning on putts that break left to right (im a lefty) but on putts that break right to left I always tend to think I am not playing enough break and I tend to miss short putts by over reading it. I find I have somewhat fixed this issue by using a line on the ball and training myself to just trust it but I must admit that is still difficult to trust the read all the time.

    Is there any benefit in having a shorter putter, given that Matt is standing closer to the ball? Or does optical alignment suggest that tour golfers prefer to stand slightly further from the ball and as such, have a more fluid putting stroke? Is a centre shafted putter a better option if focusing on the hosel improves alignment? A very interesting and.informative session with Gareth. May there be many more. Thanks guys.🇦🇺👍

I've been to a putter fitting as well as a few lessons, and it was suggested I play the ball 1 ball forward as it works with my stroke (I get the proper loft coming in, and start it on-line better). So is that an absolute? Or varies per stroke
