Ingenious! The creator must be an engineer. Only one point of correction, though, and it’s a pretty major point. The shears in the video are bypass pruning shears and the section on sharpening is incorrect.
First, you do not need to sharpen the lower arm of bypass pruning shears. Only the upper arm does the actual cutting.
Second and much more important, you should not sharpen both sides of the upper arm of bypass shears. For anvil shears, yes, but not for bypass shears. It will damage and dull the shears if you do. You should ONLY sharpen the angled (beveled) side.
Once you are completely finished sharpening the angled side, you make ONE swipe on the other side - the flat side - with whatever you used for the final sharpening on the angled side. This is to remove any possible burrs. But that’s all. Some experts say not to even do that much - that just opening and closing the shears will remove any burrs on the flat side.
Aside from that, I loved the video. The section on sharpening should be redone and the video titled, “A Geek’s Guide to Pruning Shears.”

I'd heard that old Navy mechanics had insisted on keeping hemp oil in their inventory. The bottle I bought at the health food store, went rancid, so I oiled up a rusty pair of shears. A years worth of rust, they wouldn't open, dissolved. Hardens wood handles on my shovels and rakes. Now I'm on the look out for more rusty stuff.

Its called: electrolysis, make sure you use only a 12 Volt power source for safety! When you connect the wires, shine the metal parts up to make a good connection. 120/220 volts would function as well, but not safely!

if you attach a light bulb in series to the + wire, should the anode ever touch the cathode, instead of sparks, the light will come on. This is useful when doing this to the inside of a gas tank or using a power supply.

Never use electric tools for sharpening anything unless it is on a designated sharpening tool!! Especially for curved blades.
Never grind or sand the lower "blade" -- only the curved angled blade -- and only on one side of bypass pruning shears.
    Incorrect "sandpaper" for the job.
I've been using my great grandfather's steel pruning shears since I inherited them in 1971. All parts are 100% solid steel, made in 1868.
Only sharpened 4x in 53 years of steady work. It's been almost 100 years since tools were made from that type of steel.

He took the shears apart and soaked them in Cola. After one or two days, the rust was gone and the shears could be sharpened with a whetstone.

You could do the same with an orbital sander so why waste time glueing sandpaper to drill. 😂😂😂

  • @sloanlance
    @sloanlance 5 місяців тому

First, the clickbait. Why does the cover photo of this video show cutting a battery with the shears? That never happens in the video. Are you recommending we should try it?
Second, why would anybody glue sandpaper onto a sleeve on their drill when they could get a reliable grinding stone attachment for the drill.
Third, why would anybody use a battery in a drill as a surface for polishing compound? Why not use a piece of pipe or the non-grooved part of a large drill bit?
Finally, thank you for the electrolysis part of the video. That was interesting. I'm not sure whether a salt solution is the best idea. I've used baking soda instead.

Why does this dude have a hard on for destroying AA batteries? Totally unnecessary in this video. Naval jelly and a bench grinder get the same results in half the time.

Ten film powinien mieć tytuł " Jak nie ostrzyć sekatora" .... ;) .
