Regarding the Class Lights White: Indicated an "extra" train not shown in the timetable. Green: Indicated that, while the train displaying the lights was a regularly scheduled one, a second section was following behind it. Red: Indicated the end of a train. A train, be it a single engine, a group of engines, or an engine(s) with cars, must have a marker on the rear end. Over the years they've been phased out, but older CN Locomotives still have them. But they're probably going to be removed once they've been in the rebuild shops.
To expand on what Nolan said, the green and red lights indicate that there's multiple sections of a scheduled 'train', so another train can't proceed untill the last section goes by. for non-train geeks a 'section' would appear to be an entire train, Baiscally, it's a scheduling 'trick' to move multiple trains together. it's been phased out in favor of 1 big train running MUed engines, and not using a Time Table, but rather treating every train as an 'extra'

I grew up in Oakville, and can say that many of the buildings and trains are actually accurate, especially the train stations and bridges. They did a good job on this one.
I couldn't agree more with your thoughts about a true "Cold and dark" scenario, Jeff. They don't model that stuff very much and essentially want you to jump in and start the service without setting up lights and such. Marker lights on the Cal-Train DLC is a big offender of this.
@20:40 the aspect for the signal is Limited to Clear since this is CN. The Canadian Government has a set of rules called CROR (Canadian Rail Operating Rules) that all Canadian based railroads must follow to the T.

The MU2 valve 26 position is for the type of Brake equipment the locomotive is equipped with. Type 24 is on older first generation diesels. They have a channel on youtube called locomotive systems. The guy in the videos talks about the air brake equipment on modern diesels.
02:24 Hey Jeff, I was created the majority of this mission for the game. The companies logic for not having you do the headlights etc. is that it gives you stuff to explore and learn how to do instead of spoon-feeding you everything

I'm still pissed that there's no GO or VIA services on this DLC and although I live 5 mins from Oakville station, I refuse to buy another DLC from them until they add passenger services.
Pretty accurate in every way. There are a few things that were off some. I will say this though, you probably would have snapped your train in 2 pieces after you took a full service to get down to 15mph and then started to throttle back up almost immediately once you reached your target speed. It takes time for the air to build back up (brakes release) and if you start trying to throttle up too soon you will get a broken knuckle or worse.
The cars carriers Jeff is picking up are from the Ford Plant in Oakville Ont like other have said this also part the Lakeshore west GO line use to ride that train everyday when I was doing recert for the TTC since it was pain in the ass driving home to Hamilton in all that traffic on the QEW.

I'm going to guess that the morning and dusk lighting in games as of late is very much tied to when the image was taken for the skydome or IBL if they're using such light data, since the majority of photographers seem to operate around the principle that the best (read Dramatic) natural light occurs at those times. Not that it's terribly difficult to capture a nice HDR in mid-day, but in PBR rendering, I will attest that the maps I use/make have better color in the same time ranges.

White, in terms of classification lights (a bygone era), was indicative of an “extra” train not on the timeline. Green was a regular train with a second section following. Red was end of train. In situations of one or more locomotives with a car at the tail end of a train, a marker was used. In relatively rare situations with a locomotive bringing up the rear, the locomotive bringing up the rear would have the red classification lights active. Today, classification lights are a bygone era, but some railroads like Metra, Septa, AMTRAK, and New Jersey Transit (NJT) use marker lights to indicate the end of the train and emergency lights to indicate an emergency stop. I played this exact scenario on PS4 but once I got out of Oakville the train won't move from the spot outside of Oakville like I had to get it to notch 8 and then it tells me wheel slip
I had this same exact question. The game looks amazing, I am guessing maybe an RTX 3080 or at least a RTX 2080Ti or maybe nothing less than an RTX3070. As for his gaming rig processor, I would guess maybe an AMD Ryzen 9 5950X with 32GB DDR4. Plus maybe a NVMe 1.4 PCIe4 Samsung 980 Pro (or EVO Plus?) or maybe a Sabrant Rocket 4 Plus M.2 NVMe SSD. That’s my best guess, but the graphics do look amazing!
@@markmalewski Sorry for the late response, but he has a sponsor for his set up and you can check out his specs under the About section on his channel page.
I've been up near the Oakville yard. I gotta say that the map of the yard looks accurate as well as the scenery. Looks like you picked up from Ford's Oakville assembly plant.
I can't speak much for the CN Oakville Sub, since I'm not familiar with the operations or equipment common on the line, but it is most definitely a bummer to not see any Canadian unique locomotives, like a Canadian Cab GP40 possibly. Knowing Dovetails unwillingness and lack of care towards the community, its unfortunate we'd most likely never see such a thing.
I need some help. When in the cab, there is typically a little gray dot to see where your cursor is at so it is nice and easy to get controls My little gray dot dissapeared and it is a pita with out it. Anybody know how to get it back? I can't figure it out
Hey Jeff, there's an early access game called Railroads Online! That is being developed by actual railroad workers and train crew that I think you might enjoy taking a look at if you ever get the chance. The dev team are all on UA-cam as well!
Many locomotives back in the day especially in Canada had class lights. After doing some research I found what the other colors mean. Keep up the good work with all your videos. White class lights - extra Green class lights - regular schedule *Red class lights - end of train (you got this one)
So how does the rear engine sink up with the front engine? Is there a throttle cable or something or does someone else have to be in the rear engine to control the throttle?
Hey Jeff i have been a really big fan but most these games cost money but on Xbox I got train sim for free I just need help on learning when it's a good time to use the breaks when coming into a station I always am not stopping in time or I am stoping to earlier any advice?
I watched a DTG stream a few weeks back and Matt Peddlesden said something long the lines of they were unsuccessful in finding the true meanings of the CN marker lights since apparently they vary from other railroads, and therefore they didn't want to make things up and tell people a system that's not true, but still kept the system available for the players to play around with. I find that a bit odd cause I think it is very self-explanatory as to what they each mean and I think they could have easily contacted someone from CN to get background understanding for those. Either way, they do have bigger issues than that, such as getting the physics a bit more correct and continuing to build the sim so we could potentially have a route/scenario editor and steam workshop integration.
I have been asking for a route/scenario editor for such a long time! It was the main reason that I wouldn’t buy TSW because of no editor! But I had FALSELY heard that TSW2 was supposed to have an editor and then after purchasing I am upset to find out that after all these years we still don’t have a route / map editor and we still can’t create our own maps and track layouts and routes! No route editor, nothing! Even the new livery editor is a complete joke and is pre-defined decals instead of allowing us to use customized graphics/images to create real liveries like BNSF or Norfolk Southern. I really wish DTG would finally agree to release a SDK Editor (like the Squad SDK editor) so we as a community can start creating our own content and game mods for TSW2!
I am an aviation enthusiast but I also like trains and other simulator games. And I am also from Canada 🇨🇦 and I really like those locomotives. Also, the AN-225 which is the biggest plane in the world (not a train 😉), came to my city a few days ago and I made it my new profile pic. 🙂 This was a super enjoyable video Jeff and have a good evening. Big like! 😀👍
Almost got the class lights down. The white is for an extra service not in the timetable and Green is for showing there are more trains behind in the same timetable. Realistically, CN don’t use the class lights anymore due to modern signaling and dispatching no longer requiring trains to be dispatched and switched by line of sight-dispatchers know what trains and how many are coming long before the train is even visible.
Also, if the rear red marker lights are active, you do not need the rear headlight on under FRA rules. The rear headlight is only for if you don’t have rear red lights.
I have been watching Jeff’s videos and he drives/flies/pilots EVERYTHING! One day I am watching FS2020 and the next day I am watching TSW! I love it! I have wanted TSW for quite some time, but watching Jeff’s videos has made me finally purchase TSW2 yesterday! I also picked up ATS and ETS2 because of Jeff’s videos! Everything he plays looks amazing and now I am in love with watching the TSW videos! The locomotives look so realistic and I love Jeff’s commentary and knowledge about driving the locomotives! It really helps us noobs that are just learning or getting our feet wet or preparing to purchase or play the game! Jeff’s videos are the absolute best!
I once read an anecdote in line with your comments on why you like this game. The author had decided to take sailing lessons. The instructor wrote something. on his board He then said if anyone didn't understand what he'd written he would refund their money, no questions asked. He then turned the board around and showed them his message: "I can teach a man how to sail. I can't teach him why."

Hi jeff
I am an aviation enthusiast but I also like trains and other simulator games. And I am also from Canada 🇨🇦 and I really like those locomotives. Also, the AN-225 which is the biggest plane in the world (not a train 😉), came to my city a few days ago and I made it my new profile pic. 🙂 This was a super enjoyable video Jeff and have a good evening. Big like! 😀👍
Only the red lights are still in use. White/green are the class lights and aren’t in use anymore.
Jeff favignano am from Canada and I see those trains all
Almost got the class lights down.
Just bought this game! I can't wait to play it! Keep pushing out the amazing content on the DLC's of this game and for your GTA RP's!
Jeff, how much experience do you have with trains?i only have really eatched you play GTA and air games but where do you get yourtrain knowledge?
Love the zebra stripes on the locomotives
I once read an anecdote in line with your comments on why you like this game. The author had decided to take sailing lessons. The instructor wrote something. on his board He then said if anyone didn't understand what he'd written he would refund their money, no questions asked. He then turned the board around and showed them his message: "I can teach a man how to sail. I can't teach him why."
this is new... never seen the town I live in, in a video game
Awesome video,it's such a great hobby and something awesome to do to keep you calm, keep em coming jeff!
Cool Train Simulation Game.
My question to those people that ask about train sim is, What is there not to enjoy about it.
Jeff, you need to play Derail Valley, it is a really cool train sim game. Open World Sandbox Train Engineer. You do manual coupleing, stunting, logistics, freight, types of certifications etc
You'll absolutely love it
How are the graphics? Is it a new/modern game using Unreal Engine 4.26 or later?
Hey Jeff great episode
