RE-PLATING A NIKASIL TWO STROKE BARREL

- The Nikasil plating on my Lambretta TS1 barrel was very worn and needed to be re-plated. After searching the web I found Langcourt Advanced Cylinder Technology. These guys are specialist in any type of Nikasil plating for HIGH PERFORMANCE CYLINDERS and they carry out SPECIALIST REPAIRS & PLATING. As it says on thier web site "Langcourt Ltd. was established in Banwell (near Weston-Super-Mare) in the South West of England in 1984 to offer a repair service for chrome, nikasil™, and electrofusion™ coated engine cylinder bores. Most of the cylinders that we saw in those early days were from road racing bikes, dirt bikes and gearbox karts. Over the years, we have developed our processes but have kept to our speciality of cylinder plating and repair work. The range of applications has grown, but we have resisted the temptation to get involved in porting, crank rebuilding and other specialised “tuning” work to focus on what we know and understand best!

@@Shedtune_Russ just reading up on there website always handy companies like this.Looking at it you can tell they have taken a lot of care doing the replating of the barrel.Look forward to hearing how the barrel gets on once fitted.Cheers for posting 👍👍

A good few years ago , one the scooter mags had a wee review of replating and if memory serves me ? This company was replating the same cylinders over and over for a reason, and that was because they thought the coating was sub- par!
If memory also serves: a certain Uk Scooter tuner and parts manufacturer decided to go with another company/coating for their barrels! (MB?)
I could be mis- remembering this , but it was definitely a UK replating company!
I remember seeing small pin- like holes in the coating and the company replied " a two-stroke barrel is full of holes, so this is not a problem" !

Back in the 90's when I last owned a TS1 barrel, I had it replated at a go cart firm. Summing up I could just as well have bought a new barrel...

We've got two companies that do cylinder repair and replating, too, but they're both in my home state of Wisconsin, more than 2,000 miles away. Both companies charge almost twice what you've just paid to have your cylinder done!

Yeh I didn’t want to throw away a TS1 barrel especially when u can’t get them at the moment
The trouble is you can not get NEW TS1's at the moment. On the AF webite a NEW TS1 kit is £686 inc head

How long does the plating last for Russ?did the price include the tuning you had done?
It’s the same playing that the TS1 kit comes with so in theory it should last 10000+ miles if it don’t get damaged. The tuning was extra money on top of the plating
How much was it,I had a ktm one done a few years ago it was £100 then
£198
