Larnell, I was one of two drummers for a jazz improvisation class 20 years ago at a local college in St Louis. The professor was an upright bassist, and told us that with the drumset being a non-melodic instrument it could not stir people to deeper emotions, nor move people to tears. I have to tell you that you he was absolutely wrong. You, Elvin Jones, and Tony Williams have all made me cry from pure joy and amazement at what the human mind is able to communicate with art. Thank you for cultivating your God-given talent and simultaneously retaining a spirit of humility and gratitude. I've seen Snarky Puppy twice in Portugal (besides the screening for Family Dinner Two), including the first time they played here, and it's a life changing experience. Seeing Larnell in action, a few feet away from you, is everything you'd expect, and more! As a drummer, it's simply life chaning! I've been a huge fan for the last 6 years and the quality never drops, Such a nice ensemble of musicians and, above all, great people! I hope to see them in action, very soon!
Saw Snarky in Florida this year for the fifth time and was super disappointed you weren’t on that leg of the tour 😭. Keep posting these though, they are making up for it. Literally the best combo of technique and musicality I have ever seen in a drummer. Inspirational and motivational.

I swear to god, every time I watch Larnell solo I think to myself "I've seen it all", and every time I get proven wrong. You can always count on Larnell Lewis to raise the bar, not just with every solo, but with every measure you hear him play. The impressive part about this solo isn't the crazy fast fills (although they are insanely impressive), it's how he hits each figure perfectly. He doesn't just play in the pocket, he IS the pocket. It's extremely satisfying watching him stray away into a poly-rhythm utterly confusing every mortal watching, just to seem him come back PERFECTLY on the one. His use of dynamics, story-telling, contrast, energy, groove, power, and showmanship is unmatched by any other drummer alive today. The only person that comes to mind that is even remotely on this level, is Nate Smith in my opinion. I know you don't need to hear it from me, but Larnell keep up the mind-boggling work!
100% agree with this, completely on the money. I'd only add Benny Greb into this mix of drummers (Larnell Lewis, Nate Smith, benny Greb) that have that ultimate mix of flair and dynamics anchored in rock solid groove.

You know it's a amazingly great musician (and musicians/band) when it sounds THIS GOOD with such poor audio quality!! Damn, that was my go to excuse when a recording from a phone or whatever didn't sound as good as I would like (of my own playing). BUT, that honestly makes me more inspired actually, so it turns out it only was a great wake up call!! :)
