How many total war players are seriously going to buy into this? There was backlash over dlc prices. Pretty optimistic to think that they’ll pay hundreds of dollars for this.
This is for people who want to collect and paint.
Yeah, don't believe it's going to be a whole lot.
Total War Warhammer got me into this hobby back in 2014/2015. Was happy to hear the old fantasy range was coming back. Guess I should have known GW would make it unaffordable.
Honestly the grail knights seem like they could be converted pretty easilly out of the Mounted Knights of the Realm and their new on foot box bits.
True
The models to me are more important than the rules but they are also important particularly the lore. A bit of a shame the prices are going to be pretty high but I’ll just be happy to see them available again. As a long time fan of the setting and IP I do really like the fantasy minis. I’ll confess that some of the plastic kits aren’t my favourite sculpts vs the metal ones but it does depend a lot on the era and range. Metal absolutely has its faults but it also offers a number of advantages that some people overlook. A bit of rage has been bopping around about the metal but isn’t that better than finecast and just not having access to that unit or character. It seems obvious enough that GW doesn’t want to invest a lot of time into creating new stuff at least for now and given the size of the ranges of a game they killed off it would be hard to blame them at this point (sure when they killed it off but not now)
I’ll support the game provided you can find the stock and prices don’t go beyond realms of fairness
Like the idea of old world but gonna wait till they release other armies. In the meantime will stick with AOS and conquest
I'm looking forward to putting together a Bretonnian army, but I will be sticking to the plastic, except perhaps a resin damsel. I simply enjoy working with plastic models more than with metal or resin. Hopefully the game will be popular enough that they will decide to do plastic versions of the models currently in metal.
Good to hear! So happy that this is coming back!
Just buy some core plastics (+ characters & stand out units) and 3d print the rest. Highland Miniatures "not brets" are particularly awesome
Thanks, will have to give that a look!
The corebox at my local store is $199 and $230
A great deal!
It is all about individual value. And for me, the nostalgia isn’t strong enough to want these old af models for these prices. The new models looks fantastic.
I will probably only get the core book, and a couple of new minis, and wait to see how the release looks for armies I would be more interested in.
This game will get the same resources allocated to it as the Middle Earth game. And will stay a smol game.
At least no new book every few years
these types of banners. (Painful I know) but drill them and brass rod them, well worth it! :)
Good advice!
Remember when they first announced this and kept teasing new factions? What happened to that???
Maybe that comes later
Or never if the game bombs.
I’ve seen two shows that did all the math adjusting for inflation to 2003, and every kit is less expensive now adjusted for inflation than it was then.
Don't tell GW! 😂
I need to see that video.
The models weren't 20 to 30 years old back then.
Sounds "totaly" beliveable... not, for very old stuff.
@TooMiniModels
It was one of The Outer Circle's recent videos, the guy has tons of deep dives on GW pricing over the years.
The problem is, the niche group they're aiming this at already has most of these models.
I want a god damn necrosphinx. Im fucking happy
The most important thing to me is that it is the best game out for me so far that seems to be the case so I would be willing to pay double this as long it’s the best in the world for me
Are you still playing conquest? remember seeing your painted armies a few years ago.
True and agreed, for me, the most important thing is the hobby aspect and the models, rules can be change far easier and I don't think they can please everyone with rules as people value different things. Thanks for the comment!
@@tervindar507 I absolutely love conquest love love, but I am so burned out begging people for games over the last five years. My group grows up to 10 to 20 then half the people stop playing. Everybody only wants to play on a certain day. I just need a game where I don’t have to hype the group every week to get people to show up I’m tired.
Oh man, totally agreed and that was part of the reason I stopped being a vanguard. Trying to get people to try it was literally pulling teeth on top of driving hours to other stores. I adore the game though, it's my favorite, and thankfully I have a buddy locally that I get to play it with.

Not sure why people re surprised about the prices.
GW can't keep up with the production demands of just 40k, let alone 40k and all their other games. Why would they decide to spend that valuable production time on less valuable models? That's what they're charging for, not the 20 year old sculpts.
ill wait until the rules come out, but im going to play, ill just print them. The prices gw is trying to charge to cash in on nostalgia is terrible.
I see what you mean
I'm new to the warhammer, will people in the community allow printed or will they enforce GW?
I bought the core for 255, however the rest of the minis are overpriced for being resin. How much is authenticity valued over having casual games?
Any advice would be welcome!
Vast majority of older items come in under inflation. Not sure why anyone is surprised by the prices either - it's GW. Strange arguments coming from people honestly - the age of the model has nothing to do with pricing, supply, distribution and production doesn't suddenly go down. Mould cost has nothing to do with it.
Fantasy didn't fail. GW killed it. Massively different. This is a specialist game like hous heresy - not some flash sale. They know better data than google is showing you.
Good points!
I think you are right, sometimes when speaking off the cuff and giving my initial impression, I don't use perhaps the most nuanced arguments.
They didn't have to pay anyone to design the models though. Also, other companies manage to offer way lower prices with lower volumes which makes the models more expensive to produce.
Just because a model is old doesn’t automatically mean it is bad. The Brett range was my favorite fantasy range because of the awesome detail in the plastics and metals. I’ll certainly take metal over resin any day. So, it may take me a while to save up for each unit, but I’m going to support this release to show GW that this was a good idea. I might just revert back to my kitbashing days to make plastic questing and grail knights from KotR and Foot Knight kits.
Right on!
Right on!
Just got into warhammer and building Brett army, bought the core to support and build.
I may supplement with STL files with similar models, hopefully people aren't too upset I'm not looking for official tournament. I will slowly build up the army based on what mini I can buy and want to build
Amazing price tbh
Ouch, rather proxy. Not going to play in store anyway.
i mean
I would disagree: the niche already has bretonnians.. we are not talking Chaos Dwarves here, I have a ton of bret. knights lying around somewhere unpainted from the bretonnian/liazrdmen starting box era. This is a 3 years in the making repackaging and repricing of old stuff and it will fail. GW's core business is models, not rules and in any case we have both perfectly functioning rules and models already. Old world should have been the rebirth of Fantasy Battles not this thing whatever it is.
also the problem with fantasy was lord of the rings which apparently became the n1 product for GW undermining fantasy. They decided to drop one fantasy line and they dropped the one that made less money. For us EU people it would have been unconceivable but for the US and the global market there was no 30 years attachment to Warhammer Fantasy. So now Lord of the rings is dead and fantasy can get back to life. In my op. this is the very simple explanation but of course now they have age of Sigmar so again 2 fantasy lines.... and we are opening another war for succession (which for Old World is lost from the get go giving the way this is being handled).
I just got into this and it's scary to hear, as someone with experience how would you suggest continuing on? I like old world because of Brett I never owned before and don't see myself playing AoS, any advice?
3d printer go brrrrrrr
They must have fallen of a swing with these prices
I can't get into skirmish style games, rank and flank ruined 40k for me. That said, you said 'niche' many times and I'm sure that's what the community will be, very niche. Par for the course for me.
Yes, it's too expensive.
GW is crazy if they think I'm paying 60$ for three 30 year old knights. lol
Eye of the beholder
@@TooMiniModels I guess?
Like I'm sure boomers who grew up with these derpy models arr more than happy to pay the outrageous prices for them.
As someone who doesn't have that attachment, I will not be given the plethora of better looking and better priced proxies.
Alternative to buying GW could be STL for resin printing no? I find it hard to justify the cost otherwise I'll buy a box and cast it.
Any ideas for someone starting out?
@@malencor2364 Elegoo has their new Mars 9k printer on sale for valentines day. It's 260, or roughly the price of the bretonnian box.
Not a bad place to start. Last Sword miniatures and Highland Miniatures make fantastic alternative Bretonnian sculpts at a reasonable price.
Im sorry, they let their customers spend buckets of cash and time building these armies, then dropped it completely. They want to re-release them 20 years later with current release prices, because there's been a popular PC game and some executive thought they'd make money for old rope. Go buy recasts, this stinks even for GW.
Im glad you're excited and hope you and others enjoy it
No. The fact that GW simps are gobbling up 20 year old kits just for a crumb of whfb shows how desperate gamers are for a GW game that doesnt blow.
Conquest is a way better game, coming from an old whfb dwarf player.
Thanks, will have to look into it.
"No". There, I just saved you 15 minutes.
Yes.. do you even know how much some the same amount of Brett's would cost on ebay? Easily 500+ 76 for 120 uk price is absolutely worth it for Brett's...
@@jacobdoughty3528 Actually, no. You're looking at the box set as having "value" because it's a slightly less grossly overpriced way to get models that are slightly more grossly overpriced on their own. At the end of the day they're still grossly overpriced.
@ThermalGoguh you joking its 100+ for 5 knights on their own on ebay....
@@jacobdoughty3528 Literally reread what I wrote
No, just seen battle report 🙄 no objectives just bashing all over table. Again Brain 🧠 dead gameplay.
I think, and hope, that there will be better scenarios than just killijg each other
