You could add enough river to the edge of the map so an opponent (or allied reinforcements) could park a ship or two from which to begin their assault. You could make another table to represent the basements, dungeons, sewers and catacombs below the surface of this map.
The name of the Tavern in my WHF roleplaying game that my players frequent is 'The Pikeman's Lament', as it's set in a farming area which sees it's populace often be conscripted as front line soldiery for the Empire, i think it definitely matches the theme of the town you've built!
Journeys End Inn comes to mind. The Hanged Man from DA game. Giggling Marlin Inn-(Bar in Cabo Mexico). The Captains Quarters Inn. Maniacal Mermaid. I'll stop now since I am starting to annoy myself. Cheers!
You could call it the Forsaken Inn in a little nod to the terrain pieces being LOTR kits and your homebrew lore being that of an abandoned/forsaken town, making it a forsaken inn in the eyes of the Bretonnians who discovered it
Looks great and really enjoy the addition to using a stone wallpaper. For a project like this you can get some straight pieces of sprues glued together for cemetery stones and markers.
Thank you 🙂. I’m going to be setting most my games there I think, so I think I’ll be doing more. It will be quite generic I think, old lore seems to suggest that the lands cover most types for swamp to almost desert in the south, wastelands and grasslands as well.
Ahhhh, me nostalgia!! Simply fantastic! You've got me inspired to gear up and get all my old Warhammer armies pulled out of the closet and rebased. I feel so fortunate to also own one of the Warhammer Mighty Fortresses with extra wall sections. I really love what you do with terrain and the color schemes you use, you've got a keen eye for aesthetics!
Very nicely done. I like the setup and the history you are giving to your town. As for the Inn I like "The Shield an Stain" as it shields the travelers from the weater and provides ample sustenance to all ;)
Awesome video, great inspiration for my future board! I have been collecting various pieces over the last year and you gave great examples of buildings I can use.
One of the most inspiring projects I've seen on UA-cam! It looks like a World of Warcraft map in real life, and so conveniant to transport and store. Well done! :)
Great looking board, the only thing I'd suggest is some scatter terrain. Hay bales, boxes, barrels etc. Maybe a set of stocks? Easy compared to the work you've already put in
That’s a great job! I’m late to the party but recognised this from another UA-cam with Jordan Sorcery at Warhammer world. It’s really nice to see how you created such a striking and ambitious project.
Thank you Martyn 🙂. I definitely aim to bring it up to WHW, just need to organise times and date, sadly might not be till the new year. I agree on lack of minis, I think it’s because my Warbands aren’t finished yet, but I probably should have used some of my Bretonnians for the pictures.
All walled coastal towns need "somewhere you can go to buy your fish and watch a hanging at the same time." 🤣 Perfect complement to your town! Great work. I'm doing much the same using 3-D printed buildings behind Zvezda fortress ramparts and gates. You get a similar look at a greatly reduced price. I guess it's a shame I won't be able to compete in any official GW contests using competing components and minis... or not.
Wow that is an amazing terrain setup!👍 So many interesting techniques to try; thanks for sharing the process. I am really intrigued by the mat. Portability but with that texture is really great. The pub? Well, a previous landlord had an expensive sign painted with a Black Swan. Many years have passed and the sign is very worn. Most patrons now just call it the Dirty Duck 😀.
This is exceptional work. Also, I too, am theming my Old World army in line with two Mordheim warbands. My buddy is setting our next campaign in Kemri, itself. Thank you for this inspiration.
Im sticking with "The Stoned Troll". 🤣 Great work as always Stu, and done in a frighteningly short time too! Agreed with what others have said, a little scatter terrain will be great. And it still needs a well! 😊
incredibly inspiring! the pigment powder and texture paint on the houses is such a nice touch. love it! :D an idea for the name of the inn could be "the merry mermaid"... :D
22:00 Looks like birds pooed all over it! 😅 The board looks gorgeous btw. You could aso try painting white in between the leading on some of the windows then using Iyanden yellow to make it look like there is candle light inside!

Perfect video for a lazy Saturday afternoon, while working on some terrain myself. Awesome looking table, so much effort, love that little fishing shack, oh and the name for the inn, how about the Rusty Hook? 👍🏻
Last year I bought two Citadel Fortresses, and was surprised how little they went for on eBay. I strongly recommended buying two as you can make a castle four times the area, big enough for several buildings. If unassembled the towers of the first set should be corners, if a second set is bought I recommend you assemble them with doors on opposite sides so they sit between double length walls.
@@MiniatureRealms Back in the day people bought one set to start but the word to those who knew was buy two. You can do so much more and have enough towers to make corner and side towers enough for many shapes of fortress. The most useful is similar to what you have, and L shape wall sectioning off a portion of the 6'x4' for a siege assault battle. But you cant make that and have the basic square castle with the same towers. Also look for the following Tabletop Workshop Castle ua-cam.com/video/UFEuVGPXFIw/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/vSyL4jH8pqU/v-deo.html - You will need to extend the tower doors, keep them narrow for defence purposes but make them a tad taller. You will have plenty of spare doors to do this, chop two to make one. Zvezda Medieval Castle/Stone Fortress ua-cam.com/video/cdaQrSETBV8/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/_JEs3QAAVFY/v-deo.html - Shop around, try to get the advanced castle if you can, it has extensions which are useful. It is listed as 1/72 scale, it isn't, only the doors are that scale. It is 28mm but needs new doors. Zvezda also do wooden castles, a Russian d and a roman one, both also work for 28mm. If you buy multiple sets you can easily make it modular for RPG's and you should ignore Wargames illustrated advice to glue it. All these sets are available with a careful search, The Zvezda sets are more easily bought if you can plug into French or German ebay, I paid far less going there. Tabletop workshop sets are best available from the UK. I could say where but I don't know if I can post trade links.
I like how you’ve blended everything together, clearly lots of effort in this! For the next upgrade consider leanto buildings against the walls that can be themed, eg fletchers, blacksmith, animal sty Mordheim themed Pub name = the nailed fish
Fantastic looking gaming table, Mordheim rules fit anywhere, wouldn't bother me where you set a campaign as long as we get to play. Nice fisherman's shack from left overs, bet that roof lets the rain in .. wonderfully miserable, perfect for the old world. Like that inn .. how about The Flying Hogfish .. yes, thats a Jabberwocky pun, great movie. Look forward to your updates, scatter terrain barrels, crates, barricades, notice board, maybe even another piece of castle wall you could ruin and swap out for variety. I'm sure you'll think of lots of cool ideas.
Love Jabberwocky, wonderfully dark, very early Warhammer feel to it. I’ll add that name in the mix. Scatter terrain is a great idea, definitely need some of that. I do want to add a ruined wall at some stage as well, will be very hand for siege games.
It’s a very good idea, one that enough people have mentioned that I think it might have to happen. I was planning on adding one for siege games anyway.
Inn name suggestion: The Goblin's Armpit For the Artis Opus drybrushes, you can pickup the actual brushes from Rosemary & Co without the branding and markup, since R&Co produce those brushes for AO ("model dry brush set").
Like that name, will add it to the poll. I’m big fan of Rosemary & Co, been using them for years, I wasn’t surprised when I found out they made Artis Opus.
Incredible work 🎉🎉🎉 congratulations on this. Absolutely stunning. For the inn, maybe a Bretonnian feel like “The Sword and Shield “, “The Wild Stallion “, or “The Lady’s Chalice” maybe? Great work 👏👏👏
That looks proper cool. Has turned out really nice. Regarding the return of the old world, it is going proper old school. Only vaguely remember the last time Brett’s had a BSB on foot!
Wow, just an amazing job on both the town and the video Stu. Really looking forward to seeing something on the Mordheim warbands you are working on. Something to add to the table would be a wagon and a couple of carts. In a campaign I'm writing I have an Inn called The Lucky Duck and I think it would work well here.
Thank you Don, I hope you’re keeping well. I had loads of fun with this, looking forward to getting my first warband done. Good idea on the wagons and carts, I definitely need some scatter terrain. I’ll add The Lucky Duck to the poll.
Great looking terrain, my self is in the progress of building a table. Pitty the buildings arent playble. I also started using the gondor kit to create a “wealthy” part of the town and then I will have to make some other buildings.
That’s a great idea using the Gondor terrain. I’m going to be leaning into the ‘Empire in Flames’ rules for the narrative here, so much of it is sneaking about in the town and it’s surroundings with the buildings inhabited rather than ruins, but I will add a couple that are playable.
I am magnetizing the terrain - partially to create multiple options and have a « flatter » packing. For the more medieval feeling I am looking for different options.
I bet the ebay scalpers are crying now the fortified manor is available again for around £74 from GW (when it's in stock). Your terrain is looking fantastic.
Thank you. Odd your the second person to mention the chimney’s in as many minutes, must admit it didn’t spring to mind at all, but now you’ve mentioned it, odd they’re not in the design (though I guess the design was copied from The Hobbit films, so not a GW thing).
A lovely board, but for Mordheim, you want some open ruined buildings that your guys can occupy or shoot out of windows from. Only one or two of them should be closed in on all sides like the ones you have. Mordheim was designed to be played on a board full of husks of buildings with lots of levels and lots of walkways. You also want to make a few ruined walls that are actually ramps for multiple warriors to walk up - the rubble becomes a ramp and the gap becomes an opening to get around the wall. I have played Mordheim with those walls and they end up being a bit of a pain for everyone if not used correctly. If you don't put gaps and breaks in them, then everyone gets stuck with their side of the wall and unable to deal with the other side of the wall. If you are "outside" the walls and climb a ladder onto the wall, your guy is basically dead, as there is no cover on them and usually only two directions to go from there, which will lead to areas of no cover on the wall. They are also going to be all by themselves as you can't get many people up a ladder at the same time. A rubble wall is a good fix for this. I would also suggest making some buildings that widen the walls and add cover to them on the other side. Like a building that is built up against the walls and has an entrance at that level, as well as expanding the wall where the entrance is. If that makes sense?
Thank you. I’m definitely going to be adding a ruined wall (I need that for siege games as well), as well as some lean to buildings, scatter terrain. Planning to maybe add a building or two that is under construction, as that might help with the levels, the whole point of the setting for my campaign is that it’s not ruined, it’s not Mordheim etc. I’ve been directed to Empire in Flames as well, as that’s obviously rules for wilderness, and a different kind of ‘Mordheim’ game.
Lovely work! Your shading with the airbrush is something I'll have to try on my upcoming terrainprojects. You might want to add some scatter terrain for breaking up line of sight and adding some cover, a slight issue I ran into when I finished my city board. A wall breach could also help open up the sides of the town for more playability. You could name the inn: 'The Realm of Stew' haha ^^ Nice work mate!
Thank you. I agree on the scatter terrain, definitely something that’s needed, and a breached wall would be great for the reasons you’ve said, and siege games. Love the name, will add it to the poll.
Excellent board, you may find it a little open for mordheim, a bunch of carts and other things around the market would help. As would a couple of fountains or statues. Along with this it might be cool to add some more remnants of a higher ground level, much like the chapel is placed on to add some dynamic verticality. Perhaps also in this regard some roof balconies on the houses. some ladders going from rooftop peak to rooftop peak too. The flow of gameplay on this table also may play in a very divided way. In a siege scenario this isnt so much of an issue, but in a mordheim game, I suspect much of the outside space would be unused. Therefore being able to replace a wall section of the fortress wall with a broken one, (perhaps collapsed in to rubble in the middle) would allow the external space to move in to the internal through more than just the gate. An alternate option may be to create a sewer like entrance through the bottom of one of the side walls, with a big circular/arched grate (broken/openable?) sewer grate. External space might also benifit from some farming details, a field or two, rows of tall corn that figures can fit between, with fences coming away from the fortress walls, this would also allow for some cover for aproaching forces in gameplay. Regardless of all of my suggestions this is a really wonderful build. And as for the tavern, The Lady of the Lake Inn.
Thank you, some really excellent advice there as well. I was definitely conscious of lack of the some of the vertically of the board, but also wanted to keep the ‘setting’ on theme, but you’ve definitely given me some ideas. Fields are a great idea, and I’ve got plenty of those knocking about ready just to add. Also scatter terrain, I’m building a list of bits now. Another wall section to build as collapsed is already on my shopping list, but I also really like your sewer idea, and that should be very easy to add. Thank you again.
I came across this by accident but now I am inspired to make an Inn and possibly a blacksmith building for my Cities of Sigmar army I had 2 lake town houses I didn’t know what to do with now I will work on a city of my own
Looking good! Also, hooray! Tower toppers! For the Inn name, how about: The Bored Prince The Lady's Room (because for the Lady!) The Breton's Knee The Sword & Board The Prancing Lancer The Flower & Dealy (fleur-de-lis) The Drunkard Rampant The Horse's Trough The Steed in Need Bed-for-a-Knight (known locally as 'the Bed') The Damsel & Dress (which dress? Dis dress) The Resting Knight (questing knight) The Ale Knight (Grail knight) Ye olde Ale Grail The Pint & Peasant The Castle Walls (common local call to arms amongst off duty troops being 'man the walls!') I'm sure there's probably more but that'll do to start!
great video. In the last few month(and after alle the witchhunter models that where released for the AoS range i often thught about doing a Mortheim project too. Idea for the name of the Inn. The drunken minstrel
Thank you. I’ve been collecting those together as well, along with some other bits for conversions, video coming in a couple of weeks I predict. Love the name, I’ll add it to the poll.
Really nice table. Honestly, it looks amazing. Mordheim is a good game, I haven't played it for a while, but I had a lot of fun playing it. The Tavern could be The Realm's Flagon.
That looks absolutely amazing! I’ve always wanted to play Mordheim. Hopefully with the Old World coming out soon I’ll have a chance. If you are still accepting name recommendations for the inn, the inn for my 9 year old niece’s D&D campaign is The Grumpy Puppy. She got a good laugh out of it when she first heard it.
absolutely amazing board m8,,,u've done a grand job on it....i am interested on what paint u used on the inns roof as ive struggled with getting a decent hay/thatched roof effect.
You could add enough river to the edge of the map so an opponent (or allied reinforcements) could park a ship or two from which to begin their assault. You could make another table to represent the basements, dungeons, sewers and catacombs below the surface of this map.
I love both of these ideas.
The name of the Tavern in my WHF roleplaying game that my players frequent is 'The Pikeman's Lament', as it's set in a farming area which sees it's populace often be conscripted as front line soldiery for the Empire, i think it definitely matches the theme of the town you've built!
That’s a really good name, also a name for some ECW rules I think.
@@MiniatureRealms it was also a tribute to the ECW system! I used to run tt battles at 15mm at key plot points
That is a great reference!
Journeys End Inn comes to mind. The Hanged Man from DA game. Giggling Marlin Inn-(Bar in Cabo Mexico). The Captains Quarters Inn. Maniacal Mermaid. I'll stop now since I am starting to annoy myself. Cheers!
😆 Some great ideas, thank you.

Absolutely glorious, I would be so proud to have made that
Thank you very much 😊
It’s so grimdark and beautiful! Amazing job!

Very impressive work! I'd love to see more terrain set in the Border Princes, it's such a classic idea for a WH campaign
Thank you 🙂. I’m going to be setting most my games there I think, so I think I’ll be doing more. It will be quite generic I think, old lore seems to suggest that the lands cover most types for swamp to almost desert in the south, wastelands and grasslands as well.
The Inn of the Last Home.
The whole project looks amazing, excellent job!
Thank you, love the Dragonlance reference, I’ll add the name to the poll 🙂
Cheers to another Stuart!
Cheers to the cruel some silly world of Mordheim!!
Cheers Stuart!
"A place to buy your fish and and watch a hanging..." You made me spit my coffee at that moment. 😆

Love the painting system you have used and show off here. So simple but so effective and effective! Great work!

What a spectacular build, I bet that will be amazing to play on! Great work Stu, really inspiring stuff!
Thank you Jordan, we need to plan on that gaming day at WHW now.
Turned out amazing mate!
Thanks mate 😊
The Inn should be called The Left Leg or The Jolly Rodger
Like it!
absolutely excellent watched it twice!
Thank you Paul 😊
The town looks great! The only thing I can think is maybe it needs a water well? Or a gallows....
Thank you. I might have to add a well, that would look good. It has a gallows, couldn’t resist that.
My suggestion for the inn would be “The Prancing Pegasus”.
A nod to both Bretonnia & LOTR (since you used some of those kits). Great video, thanks
Great idea, and thank you.

great video and amazing table! Great idea texturing the mat, it makes such a difference.

the mat looks amazing. can you make in the future more tutorials about mats?
Thank you. Yes I think I might, having done the mat for this, I’m tempted to do a 6x4 for my Old World Games that sort of matches.
I wonder how much of the old citadel WHFB range they are going to bring back for the old world. Stuff like the inn and watchtower and such.
I really hope they do, I’d argue they need few suitable pieces of terrain available, AOS doesn’t have anything to ‘steal’ these days.
Incredible outcome!
Thank you 😊

Thank you, and glad you enjoyed the video as well. Like that name, will add it to the list for the poll.
You're fast becoming my favourite UA-camr!
Thank you 😊
Simply fantastic work! Well done!
Thank you 😊
Last year I bought two Citadel Fortresses, and was surprised how little they went for on eBay. I strongly recommended buying two as you can make a castle four times the area, big enough for several buildings. If unassembled the towers of the first set should be corners, if a second set is bought I recommend you assemble them with doors on opposite sides so they sit between double length walls.
I’m definitely tempted to add more walls and towers, good tip on the towers.
Also look for the following
Tabletop Workshop Castle
ua-cam.com/video/UFEuVGPXFIw/v-deo.html
ua-cam.com/video/vSyL4jH8pqU/v-deo.html
- You will need to extend the tower doors, keep them narrow for defence purposes but make them a tad taller. You will have plenty of spare doors to do this, chop two to make one.
Zvezda Medieval Castle/Stone Fortress
ua-cam.com/video/cdaQrSETBV8/v-deo.html
ua-cam.com/video/_JEs3QAAVFY/v-deo.html
- Shop around, try to get the advanced castle if you can, it has extensions which are useful.
You should be really proud of that. Brilliant job! 👍 How about a tipple in the Ogres Nipple. :D
Thank you 😊, love the name too, I’ll add it to the poll.
I like how you’ve blended everything together, clearly lots of effort in this!
For the next upgrade consider leanto buildings against the walls that can be themed, eg fletchers, blacksmith, animal sty
Mordheim themed Pub name = the nailed fish
Thank you 🙂.
The lean-to buildings are a great idea, thank you. Love that name as well, will add it to the poll.
Cool as always.
Thank you 🙂
Beautiful work!🎉. Love the wood coloring.
Thank you very much 😊
Fantastic looking gaming table, Mordheim rules fit anywhere, wouldn't bother me where you set a campaign as long as we get to play.
Maybe make a ruined wall section (where the extra black wall was) so that in games its easier to move into the town?
It’s a very good idea, one that enough people have mentioned that I think it might have to happen. I was planning on adding one for siege games anyway.
Inn name suggestion: The Goblin's Armpit
For the Artis Opus drybrushes, you can pickup the actual brushes from Rosemary & Co without the branding and markup, since R&Co produce those brushes for AO ("model dry brush set").
Like that name, will add it to the poll.
I’m big fan of Rosemary & Co, been using them for years, I wasn’t surprised when I found out they made Artis Opus.
Awesome!
Thank you 🙂
Incredible work 🎉🎉🎉 congratulations on this. Absolutely stunning. For the inn, maybe a Bretonnian feel like “The Sword and Shield “, “The Wild Stallion “, or “The Lady’s Chalice” maybe? Great work 👏👏👏
Thank you very much 😊. Like those names, I’ll be adding them to the poll.
That looks proper cool. Has turned out really nice.
Regarding the return of the old world, it is going proper old school. Only vaguely remember the last time Brett’s had a BSB on foot!
Thanks mate.
The reveals today were very good, can wait until next year.
Would love to see a game on this
Thank you
Amazing ❤❤😮🎉
Thank you 😊
Wow, just an amazing job on both the town and the video Stu.
I don't know if it's too late but my favorite name for a fantasy tavern or inn has always been the drunken beaver
Not too late at all, like it, I’ll add it to the list for the poll.
This build turned out awesome 👍
Thank you 😊
'The Inn Hospitable' suits mordheim well ;)
Like that a lot 🙂
Thank you, and yes quite a few resellers having to drop their prices considerably.
The inn: Dice roll Inn. Thinking of the series Rome, with Titus Pullo rolling dice.
Excellent one, thank you.
The table looks very nice. I'm struck by the lack of chimneys though.
Thank you. Odd your the second person to mention the chimney’s in as many minutes, must admit it didn’t spring to mind at all, but now you’ve mentioned it, odd they’re not in the design (though I guess the design was copied from The Hobbit films, so not a GW thing).
Board looks amazing! Great video! We asked Warhammer World if we could bring our own terrain for Mordheim and they said no! 😢
Thank you.
Oh dear, that doesn’t sound good, was that recently?
@@MiniatureRealmslast year! They said only Official GW terrain
That’s fair enough I guess. They had no issues with this when I took them t thankfully, but I guess it’s made from GW kits.
Cool. Be great for D&D as well ...
That hadn’t occurred to me actually, great idea.
Mousillon is an undead city, we played Mordheim in there with Bretonnian, skaven and allsorts
That sounds awesome, perfect location for games of Mordheim.
looks great mate 🤩 might get some news on the old world tommorrow
Thanks mate 🙂, I’m looking forward to 14:00 to see what we get.
Ha! we might have bid on the same Chapel. If I lost it and it ended up here I can't be too upset.
Sorry 😬😅
@MiniatureRealms cheers, It went to a good home. Here's to hoping we both find that Fortified Manor one day.
@MikePawlak Hopefully they will bring it back and drive those crazy prices down. If only I hadn’t sold mine 🙄
Thank you again.
amazing board I know i'm late but how about the Dew Drop Inn for a name
Thank you, and not late at all, the video has not been out for long, will continue to get names for the poll for a week or so.
I'd call the in the Hanged Fish. Little nod to Mordheim
Very good, I’ll add it to the list for the poll 🙂
I came across this by accident but now I am inspired to make an Inn and possibly a blacksmith building for my Cities of Sigmar army I had 2 lake town houses I didn’t know what to do with now I will work on a city of my own
I’m glad you’re inspired, those would definitely be perfect to accompany a Cities army.
Looking good! Also, hooray! Tower toppers!
For the Inn name, how about:
The Bored Prince
The Lady's Room (because for the Lady!)
The Breton's Knee
The Sword & Board
The Prancing Lancer
The Flower & Dealy (fleur-de-lis)
The Drunkard Rampant
The Horse's Trough
The Steed in Need
Bed-for-a-Knight (known locally as 'the Bed')
The Damsel & Dress (which dress? Dis dress)
The Resting Knight (questing knight)
The Ale Knight
(Grail knight)
Ye olde Ale Grail
The Pint & Peasant
The Castle Walls (common local call to arms amongst off duty troops being 'man the walls!')
I'm sure there's probably more but that'll do to start!
Some of those are amazing, thank you. I’ll likely pick my favourite from that list and add it to a poll to choose the winner.
I’d call the inn “the flopping fish”
Very good, I’ll add it to the poll 🙂
I reckon the pub should be the dancing donkey....
Thank you, I’ll add it to the list for the poll 🙂
great video.
Thank you, I’ll add that name to the list of potentials 🙂
@@MiniatureRealms no need to send me anything if I win, the postage is prohibitive. Just really liked your table.
As a call back to the OG Warhammer Seige, BA maybe call the tavern ‘Marmalodi’s End’ to honour the fine treaties on Seige warfare
Oooh I really like that one, that’s a good idea.
Thank you 😊
Love the name, I’ll definitely add it to the poll 🙂
The Tavern should be called the "Just Swan Inn"
Like it, will add it to the poll 🙂
absolutely amazing board m8,,,u've done a grand job on it....i am interested on what paint u used on the inns roof as ive struggled with getting a decent hay/thatched roof effect.
Thank you 😊. The thatched roof is a zenithal base, drybrushed white, then Nazdreg yellow contrast, then some Model Color Iraqi sand after.
@@MiniatureRealms thanks for the reply,,,i'll hav a go with those colours , cheers
