Summer of '83, staying with friends in Lockport NY. First heard CFNY. Where else could you hear New Order's " Everythings Gone Green," ABC's first single "Tears Aren't Enough" and Martha & the Vandella's "Quiksand" within a 20 minute set? Just like free form, late 60s and early 70s radio. Best one I've heard and I'm a DJ.
Can't forget David Marsden, best dj on CFNY during the 80s. That station played eclectic stuff like John Otway's Body Talk, Streetband's Toast, and boosted the careers of many Canadian artists such as Blue Peter, Art Bergman, Rough Trade, Demics, The Diodes, Teenage Head, Jane Siberry, Parachute Club, dozens more. The true "spirit of radio".
I heard this song for the first time this weekend while at Niagara Falls...glad the announcer said the name of the band, and even happier that I found this video, thanks for sharing!
I heard this song for the 1st time in the very early 80's on CFNY 102.1. It was THIS song that drove me to buy my 1st synth, Roland JP-4 (RIP) Wish I seen this show at the Mod Club.. It would have been surreal. Thanks for posting !!
For those those that are interested, the Spoons just released a new album "Static In Transmisssion", it came out last week.and they are currently working on the video for the first single "You LIght Up" . The albums is fantasic, you can pic it up at most record stores.
I did sound for a band called Zip Zip 4. We so looked up to these guys. Thanks for the great 80's memories in this seemingly prophetic song! I will rest in their Nova Heart in part due to your awesome hearts....
Here are the original lyrics which map to the official video: Architects, of the world I walk your streets and live in your towns Temporarily architects, of the world You've served us well…until now But soon we'll be. .we’ll be on our own And I'll sleep, sleep in your Nova heart As things come apart I'll hide, hide in your Nova heart At ease with the thought That this Nova won't burn out Gentlemen, of the world I read your books and look at your art Hesitantly gentlemen, of the worldYou want to educate our young But soon they'll be…they’ll be on their own And I'll sleep, sleep in your Nova heart At easy with the thoughts That this Nova won’t burn out Music interlude And I'll sleep, sleep in your Nova heart As things come apart I'll hide, hide in your Nova heart At ease with my thoughts And I'll rest, rest in your Nova heart At ease with the thought That this Nova won't burn out.
I spent years attempting finding the album this song (Nova heart) was a track on (arias and symphonies) during the eighties. Thank you so very much for taking the time to upload it here. Stephen Wayne Reno Monday, July 19, 2010
The girl you speak of is Miss Sandy Horne who took her guitar lessons from singer and guitar player Gord Deppe. :) They work so well together and have played together since they he was a senior and she was a junior playing together in the Aldershot School band. The only thing about this clip that disappoints me is the absence of original drummer Derrick Ross and original keyboardist Rob Preuss.
The one thing I like is when a band does the song exactly the same as they wrote it. Beautiful song.
I'll play this at every important moment in my life❤️
I honestly think this is in my top 1 song of all time ;)
Not kidding, either.
I'm there! 🇨🇦❤️
They seem to play off each other so well. They were/are amazing.
My first girlfriend made me a mix tape of The Spoons in 1984, ahhhhh sweet memories. This still sounds great.

Architects, of the world
I walk your streets and live in your towns
Temporarily architects, of the world
You've served us well…until now
But soon we'll be. .we’ll be on our own
And I'll sleep, sleep in your Nova heart
As things come apart
I'll hide, hide in your Nova heart
At ease with the thought
That this Nova won't burn out
Gentlemen, of the world
I read your books and look at your art
Hesitantly gentlemen, of the worldYou want to educate our young
But soon they'll be…they’ll be on their own
And I'll sleep, sleep in your Nova heart
At easy with the thoughts
That this Nova won’t burn out
Music interlude
And I'll sleep, sleep in your Nova heart
As things come apart
I'll hide, hide in your Nova heart
At ease with my thoughts
And I'll rest, rest in your Nova heart
At ease with the thought
That this Nova won't burn out.

Brilliant! CFNY music..love it after so many years it still sounds soooo good,

I heard this song on Stingray Remember The 80's at the mall. :)
BPM faster than release, amd still great version. That melody is killer.
