One of the finest New Wave songs of all time, by any standard.

    • @Hastur876
      @Hastur876 2 роки тому +3

It's because all that a tiny little independent band had to do was put out a single. If it was good enough, large media outlets like MuchMusic and CFNY that were very pro-Canada would ensure regular spins in one market, and then CanCon regulations provided the path from those two outlets to full radio saturation.
So we got Spoons, Men Without Hats, Rough Trade, Payolas, Parachute Club, Martha & the Muffins, Pursuit of Happiness, Max Webster, Doug & the Slugs, Northern Pikes and so on. Every one of them wrote at least a couple really brilliant pop hits, and those pop hits got the opportunity for heavy airplay in Canada without needing massive corporate backing.

My god, Gord Deppe was the most beautiful guy on the planet. I had such a crush on him! Sandy taught me that girls didn't just have to be background singers or play tambourine. They could be important members of the band not just with the band or in the background somewhere. Hugely influential band for me.

And what's up with the second drummer? They have a drum machine and their own drummer and they thought they might need MORE rhythm by adding a 2nd drummer and some guy playing a cowbell? What were they thinking? lol

Here are the lyrics which tie back to the original video of this song:
    Architects, of the world
I walk your streets and live in your towns
    Temporarily architects, of the world
    You've served us well…until now
But soon we'll be. .we’ll be on our own
And I'll sleep, sleep in your Nova heart
    As things come apart
I'll hide, hide in your Nova heart
    At ease with the thought
That this Nova won't burn out
    Gentlemen, of the world
I read your books and look at your art
    Hesitantly gentlemen, of the world
You want to educate our young
But soon they'll be…they’ll be on their own
And I'll sleep, sleep in your Nova heart
    At easy with the thoughts
That this Nova won’t burn out
    Music interlude
And I'll sleep, sleep in your Nova heart
    As things come apart
I'll hide, hide in your Nova heart
    At ease with my thoughts
And I'll rest, rest in your Nova heart
    At ease with the thought
That this Nova won't burn out.

Hi Megan. Glad you liked it. By the way, it’s Brent (one of the twins who had Gord and Sandy for our 50th)

I spent years attempting finding the album this song (Nova heart) was a track on (arias and symphonies) during the eighties. Thank you so very much for taking the time to upload it here. Stephen Wayne Reno Monday, July 19, 2010

I've got the Nova Heart/Symmetry 7". Wonder if it's worth anything today.
