no way, the dumbest cheater ever will never be beaten, that's the guy who took the busses then claimed it was legit because he was still running in the busses. that's a level of dumbest cheating nobody will ever be able to surpass.
This has blown up on the news in the UK. He tried to double down by manually uploading a GPX file frome the race to his Strava, unfortunately for him he had uploaded the 2022 course which took a slightly different route at one point. It's also been alleged that he cheated in a road relay race for his club a few weeks prior to Cardiff half as well.
It's hard to comprehend the thinking here because he is, to use the cliché, only cheating himself. I guess it could be ego or a wager with a friend or another runner but really it is just a bit pathetic. He's obviously a good runner but now he's tarred with this for ever.
I don't know if this would be a dishonorable mention but there was a model name Bre Tiesi who did a half marathon in Temecula, California. She claimed to have finished the half marathon without any formal training in 1:58:22. However she crossed the 10km mark in 1:31:29, which meant that her final 11.1km was done in 26:53, which is a clear sign that she cheated, intentional or not. Not to mention that her split around 11 miles was missing as well. The most outrageous part was that she still tried justifying/defending herself even after all the evidence has been played out, which is not only absolutely ridiculous but downright hilarious to watch unfold at the same time.
I think that I was able to hit a time below 2 hours in the half marathon before actively starting to train my endurance, because I already had a good base endurance, given that I ran all time everywhere as habit and made races with busses and stuff like that. I would probably be able to run below 1h20min now.
If I remember correctly, there was was a double-looped part of the course that she completely missed. Being a first-timer, it's plausible that she was oblivious to this, and thought she ran the full race. She eventually changed her tune.. Johnny Football's girlfriend, wasn't she?

A yr1 (5 yrs old) runner lagging so far behind everyone on a 400m grass oval track that at the start/finish line he decided to make a right angle turn and run straight across the middle of the oval and catch up! So funny to see but it highlighted something that's inside us all :-)
The dumbest marathon cheat ever is the guy who flagged down a bus that was carrying race officials from the start to the finish of the Seaton marathon in 2019, rode it for 2 miles then hopped off and carried on running to finish the race in 3rd place. He was disqualified and banned from competition after people who had shared the bus with him spoke out, but appealed against the decision claiming mistaken ID. The GPS data he submitted to his appeal showed him moving at 30mph over part of the course, but he still insisted he had been running the whole time.
I live in Cardiff and ran this race. The bit he cut is pretty much exactly 2 miles, it's a well known training loop around the lake with a slight rise and fall on the way back. It's a popular spectator spot, there was live music, etc so pretty easy for someone to get lost in the crowd and cut across the junction to head to the final mile.
@@centaurw8lifting Very very difficult to go off course, even for a first timer due to barriers, crowds, excellent organisation but the runner in question had run before. It's basically been the same course, with minor deviations for over 10 years.

It took me only 3 months of training to run 3km in 9:54min, only three weeks for 1km in 2:59min and and only two weeks for 400m below 60s. If you find a good way to improve fast you get it done easily and once that fast improvement phase is done, switch to jogging long distances to get much better.
