Get to 32k with his cheating tactic and then use whatever lifelines left and take the free shot at 64k. And the guy helping him got greedy too. Just stop coughing after 32k and leave him on his own. Not knowing that nano refers to a very small quantity of something, and then miraculously choosing the right answer...taken with everything else, the defence really didn't have a leg to stand on.
A nanomole would be a bilionth of a mole though. And a mole is 10^23, so a nanomole is 10^14, which is a lot less than 10^100, but still I wouldn't call it tiny in isolation.

@@giannis5250 In 2001, those were all things most people didn't know. Among average people on the street - non-quizz-wizzes - only people who took at least A Levels in Biology or Chemistry would know what a nanomole is, even now, and only nerds and IT workers would have known what a gigabit was or have heard of Megatron. If you listen to news stories from the late nineties and early 2000s, university-educated middle-aged journalists sounded more clueless about technology than most working class 100 year olds would today. They phrased things like an old person would, e.g. "computer websites" because people didn't know what the Internet or world wide web were, and scoffed at the idea that mobile phones with colour screens or mobile games more advanced than Snake would ever be more than a passing fad.

According to “QUIZ” the 2020 re-enactment of this incident, it shows that they were in debt and the whole reason for going on the show in the first place was to win the jackpot to pay it off. That would explain why Dianna, her brother and Charles all went on the show and they were so desperate they eventually resorted to cheating their way through to the end.
I think MANY people are living paycheck to paycheck, and would like to win $one million. It’s not just because they were in debt, as their driving desire to be on the show. (& cheat to win) Many people have a credit card debt. So the fact that they’re in debt, is the main culprit for them cheating. I think $1 million would change 95% of the people life’s. (regardless if you’re in debt already or not) Someone who’s not in debt, i.e. a low income earner would also have a desire to cheat as well.

Openly admitting to never having heard of 3 of the answers, being sure it was A1 and then flopping onto Craig David is massively suspicious. He should have had enough awareness there to think the jig was up. Walking off with 32,000 would have been enough.

192 coughs were picked up in the studio that night, some for right answers, some for wrong ones. Celador put the tape together, enhancing 19 of them to make it seem obvious. I don't "know" that they are guilty, but there has to be some element of doubt. Coughs sounds were also turned up in this video.
The audience audio channels would have to turned up to analyse them. It’s likely that Ingram’s and Tarrat’s mic channels had ambient noise cancelling and for final broadcast audience would be set to much lowers levels.

the sad thing is that he had quite easy questions to win the million. Also, he seemed to have the right inclination up until 250k so he could have gotten away with it
After humiliating himself with the A1 segment, he should've gone up to $32k, free guess, and then stopped at either result. He made himself look foolish even his wife is looking at him like an idiot. He's like a bank robber wearing bright orange clothing and wielding a kitchen knife as his weapon
He should have walked away with 125k or 250k. During the 500k and 1 million questions, the cheating was just too obvious, he clearly had no clue and somehow choose the correct answer.
In multiple interviews Chris Tarrant is adamant he heard no coughing and that there was a fair bit of noise. The audio here has been heightened for the jury, however the producers picked up on it within a couple of hours after the show. All fine until your last point. It wasn't "totally obvious" that they cheated. Extensive analysis of the footage was conducted to prove that they cheated. This was the only real evidence you've listed. Everything else was circumstantial and didn't actually prove anything.

you don't need to know what googol is to figure out the answer, just eliminate the others by knowing some basic science and who Megatron is.

It's clear that he's cycling through each answer one at a time, waiting to hear the cough.
A nanomole would be a bilionth of a mole though. And a mole is 10^23, so a nanomole is 10^14, which is a lot less than 10^100, but still I wouldn't call it tiny in isolation.

yeah but many people knew what a nanomole, a gigabit and who Megatron is. Or at least what giga- and nano- stand for in science. It's very basic knowledge for a million dollar question.
My teacher taught us what a googol is in 6th grade, back in 1992. That was an easy question.
(regardless if you’re in debt already or not)
Someone who’s not in debt, i.e. a low income earner would also have a desire to cheat as well.

I know, my 8 year old son learned that the other day in school
It was 2001, the average adult was much less likely to be familiar with those words than today.
How they can cheat what are they using??

After humiliating himself with the A1 segment, he should've gone up to $32k, free guess, and then stopped at either result. He made himself look foolish even his wife is looking at him like an idiot. He's like a bank robber wearing bright orange clothing and wielding a kitchen knife as his weapon
he shouldve let the cheater won so he could cure his wife's cough
He should have walked away with 125k or 250k. During the 500k and 1 million questions, the cheating was just too obvious, he clearly had no clue and somehow choose the correct answer.
If he’d have stopped at 250k or a lower number he might have got away with it.

It literally says he doesn’t recall hearing any coughs my guy
In multiple interviews Chris Tarrant is adamant he heard no coughing and that there was a fair bit of noise. The audio here has been heightened for the jury, however the producers picked up on it within a couple of hours after the show. The Larry contestant even didn't clap because he knew something was wrong.

They called Charles a week or so later and he didn’t get the money.
It’s so painfully obvious especially in a game show choice answer situation. What were the people around her doing?? Hahaha did they really not notice it for the whole show
the funny thing is they probably could’ve gotten away with it if they stopped at around 50k or maybe even 250k. their greed exposed them
