    I am really struggling with anxiety since i remember myself. Especially the toilet anxiety was by far the worst. Since i was a toddler i remember that many days i was calling my parents to pick me up because of that. I felt the need to visit the toilet almost all the time. I have reached my 23 years of life and i am struggling every single day to enjoy things cause this feeling always interupts me. I have been watching a psychologist for 8 months now and its not doing much. I have arranged an appointment with a psychiatrist and it feels like my last hope to get a normal life. I literally DON'T KNOW how life is without anxiety and especially toilet anxiety.

    I'm so glad I found this. I had an IBS flare up last year that made me have a full panic attack bc I didn't think I would make it to the rest room on time. That triggered more anxiety to the point that I was afraid of leaving the house. I've been doing cbt and hypnotherapy to help with the mind-gut connection "malfunction" and its helped a lot. I'm less fearful of being out but I still struggle with the fear and anxiety which really sucks. I just want to live a normal and anxious free life.

      Check out Fibre Fuelled By Dr Will Bulsiewicz as it could prove helpful. I would also continue to work on reducing pressure on your nervous system, through stress and anxiety. My holistic approach is talked about a lot in my podcast Mindset Change.

    I am struggling with this, I’m a teen. And when going out, all I can think about is what’s going to happen. My head then begins coming up with scenarios. What happens if I sh*t my pants? I really don’t want to live with this. I would do anything to get rid of it. I go out somewhere every Saturday or Sunday, and I almost go to the toilet every time. I get this weird feeling in my stomach and then I begin to get the feeling to go to the toilet.

    This is something I really struggle with. Going out in the car, going somewhere new, some days just even going to the corner shop is really a challenge. I find it hard to talk about because nobody seems to understand. More so, I worry about letting others down because of my ‘safety behaviours’ ie going to the toilet 2/3 times before leaving the house. I do at times feel like a burden to others as I will always stay in my comfort zone (I.e. at home) rather than going out. This weekend I’m pushing myself to go out on a day out with my gf, about an hours drive from my house. It’ll be a challenge but I know if I can do it, it will help massively. This has controlled me for nearly 6 years and it’s time I started to reclaim my life and not be led around anymore by this horrible, debilitating illness. To anyone else out there experiencing toilet anxiety - please do share tips/advice. You’re not alone ❤️

      I really feel for you, I'm the same. I've suffered from this for over 25 years of various severity. These past few years has been the worst than now I'm practically housebound. I can't leave the house without having to go to toilet numerous times before and even then my stomach is churning. I have no idea how to stop it, even a 5 minute taxi ride to shop has became a big deal where I'm in toilet lots and ends up with my taxi driving away. I've had a few accidents outside and have been humiliated so it's a very real fear that it can happen again. I've been on different anxiety meds over the years and no relief. I'm stuck in my house now with no end in sight 😩

      @@lyndac6678 thanks for sharing Lynda! It’s incredibly hard to deal with isn’t it. I have tried mindfulness - where if I am struggling (mainly when traffic is involved, I hate being in a car and not moving, or being in a car and not driving), I look out the window and focus on something else which helps to take my mind off of things for a bit. I also have a phrase that I repeat to myself which has become a bit of a mantra for me which seems to focus my mind too. It’s horrible isn’t it, not being able to just get up and go out. So much thought and planning going into ‘simple’ routines. How did it start for you Lynda? You can get through this though. Nothing is impossible ❤️

      @@a.k.6869 hey AK, same here - some days are good, some days are not so good. I celebrate my successes - good days when I’m able to get on top of my thoughts and not think too much about it. Going to new places and testing myself are also celebrated. I think I also benefit from thinking about what success is. It’s unlikely I can wake up at 7:00 and by 7:15 be in the car and drive 100 miles. Some can do that, I can’t. I try to set smaller goals for myself and take things at my own pace. People who I want to know about this, know and I’m fortunate that they are incredibly supportive. It’s not easy to deal with. We are in it together and I know we can all beat this! 👍🏻

      Hi Mat, this is something you can work with and reduce. The key factors are learning to help calm down your nervous and limbic system, help reduce tension in the body and begin brain training to help the mind know you are safe so you can begin to expand your comfort zone when it comes to bathroom comfort zones.

    11:44 I struggle most with diarrhoea… At one point in my life when I was stressed beyond belief 2 years ago, my anxiety would trigger my IBS instantly and to an extent that’s difficult to put into words. Id have to use the bathroom first thing in the morning and then Id have to go every 5 minutes until I was completely empty. Funny enough the diarrhoea wouldn’t stop, but there would only come out a kind of clear liquid. I didnt eat much either because I was so nauseous, and if I did eat it was only maybe rice or noodles. I was still in school at that time, and most days Id have to go there although I was in no condition at all. I chucked a bunch of Loperamide every day because otherwise it wouldnt stop, but Id also only take it after I was sure my gut was empty. When I was at school I actually didnt have to go to the bathroom, but the toilet anxiety was still crippling of course. It was the only thing I could think about. I lasted a year and then completely collapsed, chose to quit, and Im thankful I did because I actually think I was very close to doing irreparable damage to my body if I kept going.
    I dealt with this for years before the anxiety and especially IBS/ diarrhoea completely escalated, and now Ive noticed that around that time I was put on SSRIs. I dont know much about them, but I do know they have something to do with seratonin. Is it possible they made me have too much serotonin in my gut causing my body to go haywire? They were supposed to help, but only worsened my condition tenfold.

    Hello and thank you for your great video, your tips are very useful. Do you have an advice for those momentos when you actually have to go to the loo and "you are not suposed to" I mean when you are on a meeting and Can't leave ir when you are in a car with Someone... Those embarasing momentos when you have to go and you don't know how to deal with shame ? Fear of judgment....

    • @Mindsetchangeuk
      @Mindsetchangeuk  2 роки тому +1

      Great question! I would focus on where you have learnt not to ask for what you want. Somewhere you have learned not to get various needs met without some form of rejection which felt shaming. This old program is something which can lead to feeling anxious which can trigger the need to use the loo and then feel to embarrassed to ask. It could go around in a cycle and needs you to learn to challenge and interrupt it. Basically you need a upgrade!

    I paid for an aisle seat on a plane in September, there was a woman across from me in the other aisle seat and her friend was on my row in the window seat. They said 'oh it's fine you can just switch (meaning me) and we can be nearer each other'. Never seen someone shut up so fast when I told her I had raging IBS and COULD shit myself.😆 On a serious note it is debilitating, it's affected my personal life, career and is so exhausting.

    My anxiety only hits when I'm surrounded by traffic (it's a combination of a road traffic accident we had in 2000 and being stuck in non moving traffic for 3 hours holding my bladder a few years later). What I experience is a very physical reaction and I have soiled myself. I never avoid these situations, I just pray we don't get stuck in traffic. When we are stuck in traffic I have managed to control myself until we can find a motorway services. But it's absolutely awful. I hate it. My safety net, for many years, was to sit in the back seat of the car. But that is beginning to fail. I have started CBT but I am unsure if it will work for me.

    • @Mindsetchangeuk

      CBT can be very helpful to challenge the thoughts that trigger anxiety and create a sensitive stomach, bladder. You can train the body and mind to relax more often, this could be done daily for maximum effect. Mindfulness meditation will help you greatly. Keep in touch
