According to Maynard's book, the riffs for this song were written with Tom Morello. He took parts to Killing in the Name and Maynard brought them here. Two great songs born from the same genius.
Some parts of the song definetly sound like a ratm song
You mean Adam brought them here? It seems unlikely Maynard had anything to do with that decision since he doesn't play guitar, at least as far as I know. In addition to the fact that Adam Jones and Tom Morello were good friends in their younger days, even playing in a band together.

"One day, Brad Wilk, a bass player named Noah, Maynard, and I were jamming and pairing riffs. Maynard was developing a brand new song called 'Part of Me.'" Back and forth, the two played, creating by turns a counterpoint and a harmony of Maynard's piece and a song Tom called "Killing in the Name." "It was pretty clear that the songs fit together," Maynard would explain. "We didn't actually create a song. We were just having fun."
Tool has been with me since I was a teenager, best believe that tool is a part of me, now and forever, rock on...💯
Opiate is such a raw and amazing EP.
This will always be my favorite Tool record.
Tool played this tonight at Barclay Center. I feel so freaking honored. These guys actually, somehow, sound better live. It's unbelievable

Tool is always great live, but seeing maynard in a small setting with original lineup with perfect circle was AMAZING.
Such a cool way of saying how strong your friendship/relationship with someone is.

now i know why i love this song, i couldnt put my finger on it for a long time but now i figured out that it just sounds so clean and precise! Its great.

This to me is their best song I really love it and that bass is lethal. This gets me angst at an unhealthy level. Chancellor is great no doubt but it's really sad that their original bassist quit so prematurely 😔

This song sounds like it was written within some narrow deadline, and its still dope.
this is how they sounded with their old bassist - their 1st 2 albums wedre shorter heavy tracks - still odd time signatures but nothing like the overdone 'prog' shit they do these days....
It's probably one of the first songs they ever composed, dating back to 1990.

I saw Tool open for Henry Rollins on the Opiate tour. They played in an old bank in Isla Vista California. They left a huge impression.

Took buddy of mine to see TOOL back in 93 in St. Louis at the American Theater for the Undertow Tour, anyway Scott asks me "Why isn't there an opening act?" After the show having to pretty much scream at each other cause was by far loudest show I till this day have ever been to, "I understand why no opening act, I still have goosebumps!" He says.We still go whenever they play anywhere close to The Lou!

Justin is absolutely amazing and I would never want anything to change in the history of the band that opened the window for him to join cuz his sound literally help cement and push forward the band sound into what they are now.. but I'll tell you what when it comes to the band's first 2 releases I'm so glad Paul was with the band . His work on the base is magnificent aggressive very very dark and sometimes scary sounding. Listen to prison sex again and how it opens up with that weird scratching noise sound that is Paul doing weird shit on the base to set the mood for the song of how dark and twisted it's going to become
