Hands down ruining it. Incredibly frustrating. People buying everything everywhere and selling for 2x-3x the price. People who don't give a shit about the cards. Didn't know I'd go broke as an adult buying myself cards
It's hard to be a card collector if you can barely find the cards
It’s also that the so called investors act like scalpers. They say they buy some boosterboxes to hold longterm but sell when the price spikes a little. Every small deal they buy for so called investing but sell it very quickly after
AND! People need to stop paying these crazy prices for cards that cost 25 dollars but paid 60. So tired of it
Yes, it´s not even a question. Same thing with lego, you have these ´´investors´´ who buy up all the stock and then pretend they are somehow better than scalpers.
as someone that collects and invests, the worst part is the people mass buying the sealed product and keeping it for a long time instead of buying a smaller quantity of sealed product as investment or bulk buy the stuff that nobody is buying most recent set is shrouded fable
The truth is that it has been one of the symptoms of the problem, only now it’s on steroids
I wonder what will happen when all the youtubers keep talking about, How much Pokémon cards are worth? How much certain boxes are worth And then the same youtubers go around and complain that people are buying it to make money. How about you just open packs Enjoy the cards and remove the values
Stellar crown is one of those expansions that are fun and cheaper to open with the squirtle and bulbasaur illustration rares as a nice hunt
We have ended up with the smart play being not to buy any packs for opening. Picking up singles. Giving up on collecting master sets. Buy sealed and sit on it for 10 years. Rather less fun
It would be cool if prices died down after the hype but that's rarely the case. All this poke stuff goes up in price relatively fast. Like I can't buy a 3+year old booster box without paying like 300+ let alone a collectors box (ETBs, etc.)
I agree with you man, the hobby is alive and well. I hope they print TONS of these newer sets to bring the prices down. Those of us who dont want them now, can wait and pay msrp later :)
I think for pokemon to keep pushing the envelope of coming out with banger sets, they need the investors. If it wasnt attractive and only kids buy the cards, pokemon wouldnt sell much nor be what it is today (kids have no money).
And honestly, there's a lot of cheaper sets we can buy and open in the meantime.
I remember back in 1999, packs were 4.99 (canadian). To buy packs for $5 now or "hot" sets selling above msrp for almost double, that's still well below what inflation has done to other things 😅 and the cards nowadays are waaaaay nicer then the boring base/fossel/jungle set arts and holos.
If only we can get pokemon to come out with a good video game 😂 their games really suck LOL
There's my 2 cents.
Merry Christmas to you doc. Thanks again for your insight!
I'm with you. Merry Christmas!
Might be me but saying to go for Surging Sparks or 151 instead of Prismatics Evolutions is just gonna lead to the exact same issues. I’m a person who’s trying to collect Surging Sparks cards and right now legit unless you’re buying second hand for marked up prices you can’t even find those cards. It’s brutal
But singles?
@ even singles, right now every shop near me is sold out entirely of Surging Sparks and 151. I heard there might potentially be a restock in Feb but it means not collecting for months just to get them. That or paying 10-60 more than normal for the bundles, boxes, or booster boxes
Well 151 has been out for well over a year. It was etbs and upcs were available for a long time at msrp from any number of online stores.
Surging Sparks, just wait.
it the company that is cause all this with their slow drip of the product, you need to have investors keep it going, I don't believe they reprint anything since it takes time to do it and their already on to the next set they have a warehouse that has tons of the product sitting there waiting to be put out in the tins and other box formats. the bad thing is one idiot who throws out a stupid number to buy one, which causes the biggest issues because now everyone wants to cash in. it is a hard balance in collecting since you want value in the stuff you have but also be able to buy it at a reasonable amount.
Blame pokemon company for finally making good sets 😂
these are the thoughts 💭 I have :
Investors care about holding sealed product and selling when it’s reached its peak. Which means not enough booster boxes on the market. which means kids aren’t getting product. which means a whole generation of kids are missing out. which could kill the hobby long term.
That may be true but you’re missing out one major factor, these are kids. Sure it was cool to pull Zard back in the days but no one really attached it to monetary values, at least not immediately. Kids can just be as happy opening a mix mystery pack at the dollar store or a surging sparks booster pack. So then what about the people holding onto these products? Most of them are in the state of 30s-50s and highly likely to have kids as well. Most hard core collectors/ investors offsprings do naturally take interest in some of the parents first hobbies. They will then carry the torch and it’ll be a different kind of interaction surely, but it’s there. Every event there are both parents and kids attending and participating in the game. You’ll just have to be better now at sourcing and trading.
@@Mycoldyourdone point taken
The "sealed investors" use the cope that the products there anyways You've had your chance to buy it while they sit on thousands and thousands of unopened cards in a closet and they forget that they are just one piece of a very large web of people that do the exact same thing as them there are millions of cards sitting in unopened packs and people's bedrooms across the entire country that will probably almost never get open because at some point it just becomes people buying seal product from other people that buy sealed product and nobody's actually opening the cards so yeah it does ruin the hobby and make it harder for the people that actually just want to crack a few packs and have a good time without spending four morbillion dollars
Buy pokemon center etbs keep all sealed on shelf!!! Then just Buy 1-3 of all items released if i can available and just open one item of each product then i keep 2 on shelf for long term and i wait for next set to do the same but over hoarding and buying all the stock is just insane
Pokemon is not like food
ppl out here wanting to control the market and price points for products by scalping or hoarding but eventually ppl will just move on to the next set when its difficult to find products at msrp before release smh
To be honest its opened up new avenues for me, I can now make a decent income without having to work and I struggle with both physical and mental disabilities. These people keep the value in the cards and that means I can make an income doing what I love :)
not income until u sell
@ yes mate I recently started buying and selling cards its going really well for me :)
But Pokemon is a good investment long term & it’s the scalpers that are making the products expensive
Blame pokemon for making their company investable. They could easily reprint vintage and destroy everyone’s confidence in holding as a long term investment. But they don’t because they care about the investors too.
They care about their products selling
Well yea. A healthy game is one were it's great for investors and cheap for players. Guess what we have now?
surging sparks 210 a booster box, prismatic 100/etb...investors are ruining the ability to buy sealed and crack em with you brothers/sisters.....AI bot scripts scalping every black Friday deal and any other deal on sealed......costco 151....... these people are ruining any chance of opening packs at a deal.
Don't forget about the Charizard UPC and Classic collection that ppl thought they could invest in, how are those doing? So many factors to consider here also, just know Pokemon doesn't exist in a vacuum, markets like vintage video games, shoes, and comic books are in rough shape so much money is leaving those places and going into the card markets
What ive noticed since the 2020 pokemon collector boom.
1. Sealed product is "harder" to find.
2. sealed prices have gone up.
3. Singles have dramatically gone down.
This is probably the best state the game can be in. There is real value to collecting and investing right now. And the game is at its cheapest point ever.
I remember playing the game casually back in 2016 and the tier 1 decks were north of $300. Staple cards were around $20 - $50. Even basic items and supporters were running $4-$10.
As for collecting, many modern sets are usually on shelves for a while when they are released for MSRP or around it. Stop letting the salt consume you because you couldn't buy any of the sealed Prismatic evolutions and think of the hobby as a whole from both gameplay and collecting. The singles will be pretty cheap for the majority of the set.
I remember when normal EX cards would go for $2-10 depending on the mon and competitive ability and FAs would go for $30-50 or more. Now it's .50 for ex cards and $2-5 for FAs and it's the secret illustration cards that make a run for your money lol
I do like snatching up hyper rares, trainer FAs and ex cards for dirt cheap though lmao
Like Cynthia's Ambition for $10? Woo!
100000000000000000000.1% YESSSSSSSSSS....I can't stand it...I'm tired of hearing about investing....open the packs🎉🎉🎉
If the sets are easy to get, nobody wants it. 151 was a example half a year ago. Could grab it anywhere for under msrp. Sometimes 50% under. Was sitting on the shelves. Now, when the prices are high, everybody and their momma wants it. 🤷
Because it’s actually hard to get globally in other speaking nations like Australia. Where you can buy it for 60-90 dollars aus and sell now for 300 dollars.
The flippers bros do not participate in pre-release events. I’d also suggest putting in some effort as a casual collector and learn to play the game to participate in those events. An option is to wait for the later waves when the hype shifts to the current set, or, enjoy the sets no one wants to invest in. Those are totally still on the shelves right now!
You're making valid points. Playing casually is so fun so easy at pre release
I just started and I can only find sparse crap and occasional surging restocks. I want to get 151 and it stinks I can't find it. I did get surging for 20 percent off msrp yesterday.
Well 151 is well over a year old by now.
Thank you for the reminder that we don't have to spend all of our gold, frankincense, and myrrh on the newest sets.
ha ha ha
Been ruinned for 20 years.
always hate mongering bro
Clean your ears out, there’s zero hate in this video, or did you not bother to watch it before commenting? Either way, appreciate the boost
I mean I get investors though like I had 4 old boxes I wish I kept sealed to sell (HGSS, Aquapolis, Unseen Forces, Skyridge) but my obsession to find a mint condition card let me to ripping them packs up 😅
But ngl the new investors really pissing me off with how they just buy up everything. If it was like buying 1 or 2 boxes to hold for 10 years, that's fine, not like product was getting picked much anyway but the cunts that actively buy out new sets really suck
Merry Christmas!
The video I saw before this was titled “the key to Pokemon investing is not giving a f$ck”. I chose to watch this instead
Oh lord lol.
Bro I love your thumbnail. You got balls of steel. They coming for you. Possum is their guard dog and will be coming for you
lol. Literally JUST changed it to a Differnt one to test for an hour becuase the video is performing so poorly. If the new thumbnail doesn’t boost performance I’ll change it back hahah
This comment section makes me sad
I think the supply just needs to catch up to the demand a little bit.
I think the demand is over inflated imo
@@DrApplesauceTwoOr, stop giving streamers the majority of the product.
@@DrApplesauceTwo I do think investing and flippers have made it over inflated true but until pokemon prints a good set to oblivion there won't be a downside for flippers and the demand will continue to balloon.
As someone who has been in video game hobby, action figure, and Sports card hobby... Pokémon is very undervalued. Plenty of cheap packs to open, people just like to play the victim card as they try flip 151 from target. I understand as a collector we want everything but if the stuff was worthless, most people wouldn't be collecting it to begin with.
Wrong
Idk man. I think a lot of people would dip if there was no value, but there would be plenty of people who stay
@@DrApplesauceTwoI stay cause if it wasn’t for tcg I wouldn’t have met so many otaku anime nerds then found out about conventions
@@DrApplesauceTwoI played Yugioh Pokémon Magic everyday at my old card shop then we would go Barnes n noble have done coffee tea And play in a group so many memories
@DrApplesauceTwo if you look at 2006 - 2016 ... Pokémon wasn't hard to find or buy .. everything was dirt cheap compared to today. Then evolutions brought a boom. I think the hobby will continue to grow. Prices may increase as a result of it. Great video man, keep up the great content. Always nice sharing opinions and thoughts.
Im mad greeedy yo.
as someone who just invested 2k on prismatic etb, idc.
this is life, if you want to invest in something and believe in it, go for it.
also, if the demand as you say will go down, even normal fans will lose profit of their current collection.
so, the more the better.
1) Pandemic boom.
2) Influencers pump Pokemon cards as a way to “invest.” Normal buyers call it collecting.
Don’t matter either way for me. Just one box of each Pokemon set and leave it sealed and call it a day.
Yes.
The issue is the casual collector only care a bout a set when its popular. In other words the casual collector isn't the heart and soul of the hobby.
Sea & Sky is right there... They cared when scalpers were getting them. Now they're sitting for weeks. Oh because the crowd is talking about Prismatic.
Interesting point
Sea and sky boxes are in and out of stock, and now are limited to 2 per order. If they were just " sitting" then why limit the purchase amt? Why are they all over market place for $65 and up?
Yes they are. I just got back to collecting Pokemon half way through 151 release. I have yet to pull a charizard sir and I can’t find packs anywhere for a reasonable price. The amount people have stock piled in their closets in my home town makes me sick. I really hope I can get my hands on blooming waters. Feels bad and definitely makes me want to stop all together. Can’t even get anything for family either. I’m not an endless money pit.
It sucks, but I hope you can get your hands on that set!
You can blame no one but Pokemon Company. They need to get with the program. They are idiots.
That makes zero sense.
@DrApplesauceTwo oh so you think them not handling distribution wouldnt help? Then why are allocations so bad. I expect you to have the answers since it makes no sense to you then because as manufacturer's that shouldnt be a problem to begin with.
I reckon the allocations are so bad becuase the amount of “stores” opening distribution accounts has multiplied exponentially, the the point that even if Pokemon has doubled or tripled production, there’s just not enough to go around.
@@DrApplesauceTwoMaybe, you should have to own a brick and mortar to be able to het thousands of ETB’s. I’m sorry, but I don’t think it’s ok that the majority of the product is going to rip and shippers. Insane. I mean, this is a children’s game, and they’re not old enough to get on these streams and get Pokemon. And, they shouldn’t be, because most of these people just gamble with the product.
Every set eventually has a large allocation. As far as sealed product. It's always on the shelves
This is a great video. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks! I’m glad you enjoyed it!
Yeah... this is not a real concern and anyone who says it is is either A) Mad they didn't pre-order or B) being snobby. People RIP A LOT and sell the bulk like crazy at very reasonable prices. There are always base set versions of the super duper premo expensive cards to access with absolute ease. So you want to play the game? Ezpz. You want to collect everything but the top 2-3 chase cards no problemo... you'll probably spend less on buying singles than you would on packs minus the top 2-3 chase cards.
bingo
I want to open packs not buy singles from hoarders
@Laurboy97 Shrouded fable is available all day everyday.
Old thumbnail gang wya 😤😈😂
Hahaha
Merry Christmas dude
Merry Christmas to you too!
Investors don’t ruin the hobby but rather they ensure the cardboard you collect can have some more value. I collect things that have little value and some things tied with more value. The people ruin the hobby are the flippers and scalpers that go to the store, buy everything and then sell it on the second hand market for double msrp.
cope
I do both, sealed and open. It doesn't ruin the hobby, it makes it more attractive. People need to get involved more or maybe be faster in ordering. I just pre-ordered 2 etbs of Prismatic for $80 each just yesterday, got to know where to shop :)
$80 each ain’t very good when they should be $50 my friend
Besides, not all people (like children) pre-order products. They buy few boosters when going to store. If boosters costs too much, they do not buy them and not join the hobby.
@@DrApplesauceTwo Canadian$ lol...im in Canada my bad
Ahhhhhhhh
Cant find product. Ive just started buying master sets from ebay and even started collecting japanese.
Graded cards are worthless to me. Why is a card in a plastic slab worth more because some 300lb whale in a office says its better?
Right now 151 is $10 a pack... i just picked up the whole master set for under $150. Thats 15 packs. Lol
Italian cards are super cheap, if you are collecting them just for the art.
have you lost weight?
Yeap. Almost 50 pounds in 3 months
@@DrApplesauceTwodude incredible, what is your strategy? I would love to do the same
@ yea I noticed, you look good 👍🏼
Stopped eating garbage.
Meat, fruit, veggies, water and black coffee.
No sugar, nothing from a box, bag, or can.
I literally ate Meat, butter, bacon and eggs for the first 60 days ( carnivore diet ) then have been slowly adding in some veggies and sweet potato over the last 30
@@chriscsongor2571he also joined a twerking fitness class, I am his instructor sergio de la nalga
Short answer. Yes. Yes, "investors" are ruining the hobby
All people do is cry about it. That's all people know how to do. You can bring awareness to whatever you like but complaining serves no purpose because these scalpers and "Fake investors" and people who think they're investors, don't care about opinions since they're well off to do whatever they please. Society made it impossible for people that make middle class or lesser wages to enjoy anything without money. And society normalizes those behaviors because they think it's okay
Ayy Mr hexagon
should we start counting how many times he says 3 times msrp until prismatic releases ? we get it brother you’re upset you can’t get what you want how you want it when you want it move on 😂
Take a shot every time I do, report back later.
I already ordered what I want of prismatic for msrp.
Love how everyone just assumes I’m upset, even when I say it’s not the end of the world if you just have to wait and just move on.
Congrats on either not watching all of the video, or not paying attention before trolling 😂😂😂
Easy answer: yes. I was looking forward to opening so much Prismatic product, but I’ve barely managed to order anything. It’ll also be difficult to justify opening anything because I can foresee sealed skyrocketing in value on release day.
Buy a few sealed to open for fun. Buy the singles you want. Simple.
@@tuongpham7609 I know that's the answer, but there's no fun in that - the point of this video.
No….
Evolving skies was my best investment. Bought 30 sealed cases. Opened 10, sold 10 and still have 10 sealed cases left. Good times indeed.
Good lord. Smart
If you bought 30 cases of ES, I imagine u bought about the same amount for the other sets. What era did u start buying into pokemon and when did you start buying $20-30k worth of cases? Sheesh
Yeah right!
@@v_token1377 I bought them from Pokenerds when they first opened. The had BBs at $100 a box. Most of the case came from them.
@@v_token1377 I only went big on Evolving skies and Vivid Voltage. We all know what happened to vivid Voltage so yea I got wrecked but at the same time got saved by evolving skies. I like Rayquaza so that is why I went heavy on it.
Yes.
