I bought a second hand DSi XL on market place. The seller told me is fully functional, but he lied. I got liquid damage. I saw a lot of coffee or coca cola stains inside the case and where the L button is. No store in Aliexpress had the L button flex cable in stock and I can´t solder. You are a genius and hero, just saved my DSi XL. You just made my whole week. Thank you so much.
took about an hour and was really scary, but i not only managed to fix the buttons, i learnt a lot about how the insides of buttons and stuff works 😊 thanks
So glad I found the one video on UA-cam dealing with this issue that wasn't just a basic and obvious fix. This was the only one that solved my woes. Thank you so much! 1st bit of supplemental advice: when scraping the tiny little disc clean, don't lean too hard on any one side, or it'll fly off into oblivion. I spent around an hour on my hands and knees looking for the damn thing on a thick gray carpet! 2nd piece of supplemental advice: it's fine if the housing comes off (as long as it's intact as one tiny piece of shielding), as you can reattach it with some tweezers. Just place over the button in place, pull the button through the hole if not all the way, and squeeze the two side panels in place. What a job this was for a rookie, but it worked! For the record, I used fine-grip tweezers for handling/scraping the grime, a light-up magnifying glass headset, IPA and WD-40 contact cleaner.
Heads up for rookies: do not bend the metal braces that hold the little button and disk too much. The metal is very thin and WILL break and you WILL have to solder it back on. Mine snapped after bending a bit too much, but it wasn't even that much. Just be very careful. Great tutorial, got my buttons back working! :)
I honestly can’t believe this worked! My R button was 100% dead for years and I finally found a solution that worked! Thank you thank you thank you bro. My DS was my whole childhood I’m glad I can play with it once again. I broke the metal thingy but managed to tighten it without soldering. I thought I fucked up but it worked out in the end. Thank you again man.
Thank you so much! Took me longer than expected, but I pushed through. Now the R button works perfectly and the L button works if I push a little hard. Before doing this, they didn’t work at all, so it’s an improvement haha
thanks, I'm just done repairing a dead dsi just to found out that both shoulder button are dead. this method works like a charm, buttons now works with every single taps
Im in the process of modding a DS lite with a broken hinge into a gameboy “micro”. Ive already bypassed the top screen check at boot up with a conductive pad taped over the necessary contacts in order to fool the handheld into booting up, but I’ve yet to remedy the L and R buttons. Im not confident in my ability to handle components as minute as this but this video is so in depth that it gave me the confidence to attempt it on my own. Thank you!
thank you man, shortly after i got my nintendo dsi the l and r button stopped working and now finally after over ten years i'm able to enjoy all games on it again, again thank you very much and i wish you all the best ;)🤗
Very helpful and very clear! Could go along with the video step by step. Will save you lots if you just have a little time, did it within 15 mins and got it up an running. Would recommend you have no distractions (kids and animals) as you can lose the little parts very easily.
Great work! Fixed my dsi right up. Hardest part was I had issues with the triggers not being clicky. I had to reseat the components in the back housing and I pressed down on the metal piece hard when I put the parts back on the trigger.
Thank you for the tutorial. Definitely be careful with the buttons! I broke one of the metal cases, but was able to solder it back on relatively easily. Now they function very well. +1
THANK YOU so so so MUCH! This worked like a charm, simple to do. Requires just a good set of glasses or magnifier and a somewhat steady hand. This revived my DS back to new!
Great, I just wanted to replace the entire simulation, or to replace the micro-motion welding, but I just saw this video, it seems to be disassembled and cleaned, thank you
You’re my fuckin’ HERO !!! ❤️❤️❤️ Thank you very much for you info/tuto ! I was back in 2011 I was waiting for a legit way to fix this problem an BAM there it is ! 😭
my left bumber is not clicking whatsoever after removing the metal piece/gray button and cleaning the inside. I put everything back properly but am now confused as to how I can go about making it click smh
Could you have accidentally touched the potentiometers? I believe they’re also on the same connectors, you might be able fix this by adjusting the “screws” under the battery compartment! One controls the top screen and the other one controls the bottom screen.
thank you, in others videos only whash the button with alcohol, but that doesnt work for me opening the button and scratching the little piece with a screwdriver solve my problem
fucking lost the little metal left dome :| I heard it fall off my tweezers into the clean mousepad & never saw it again, do they sell just the domes? ;

Wish I read the comment before hand 😅, although, after a tedious hour, I managed to make it work with trial and error!
I bend it to much now it’s snapped what can I do now

Wow thanks so much dude! It worked perfectly and it was easier than I thought! I think we can all be qualified surgeons after this lol xD
Great work! Fixed my dsi right up. Hardest part was I had issues with the triggers not being clicky. I had to reseat the components in the back housing and I pressed down on the metal piece hard when I put the parts back on the trigger.
thank you so much, the shoulder buttons felt new again 😭
This is by far the best fix. Alcohol works, but that only last for a couple months.
Thank you for the tutorial. Definitely be careful with the buttons! I broke one of the metal cases, but was able to solder it back on relatively easily. Now they function very well. +1

i ended up breaking the right metal bracket but it still works hahahah
It worked great thanks!😁
Hey so there's a rubber nib covering the screw on the back left corner of the DSi, I can't seem to remove it.....
A 1.0 sized flat head or a pair of really sharp tweezers I also had this problem but with 2 nibs
Can you do a vid with soldering?

This same thing happened to me. I have tried to put the little metal piece back in both different ways but nothing…
@@Prozem Also same happened to me any solution you got??
What did you use to clean it? Alcohol?
Ispropic alcohol
I tried this and now my screen is very dim and fuzzy. Does anyone know what happened?
