Legend, that did the trick. Just fixed my shoulder buttons this way. I really appreciate all the closeup shots - makes it so much easier to understand what's happening.
Didnt really need this since I brought my ds lite back from retirement to simply play pokemon so I don't really need to use L and R. Did it anyways just to keep my childhood console in best condition possible and this worked perfectly, thank you!
Dude, I have 2 DSi's and 1 Ds lite and all of them have issues with L & R buttons. I tried to clean them a lot but sometimes the buttons don't work properly, I didn't know you could open then like that. LIFE SAVER, THANK YOU!
I followed your tutorial step by step except for the part in which you detached the screen to sand the contacts. Now everything is working smoothly. Thanks for all the tips now I'll probably order a new case to finish the restoration.
Why no IPA to fix the buttons? That seems to work absolutely fine and doesn't require sanding or other damaging....scraping and sanding is NOT required!!!
IPA does not work, and scraping and sanding is not damaging, especially when done the way I showed.. Someone else asked on another one of my videos why I don't use IPA, so here's my copy and pasted response; Hi! Glad to answer, so IPA would never work to fix the button contacts - what makes them not work is black grime that rubs off from the black circles of the gray rubber membranes over the years, especially from when the DS is in heat and humidity. Sometimes it doesn't even look like much, but it's still there, preventing from the button from working with a light press. It can't be wiped away with anything, even IPA, even a melamine eraser - it is mended to the gold contacts, and you need to physically scrape it off. Which is why I use sandpaper, or my dremel - it works like a charm. Using the sanding bit on my dremel just speeds up the process of using sandpaper, and since this is my job, where I've fixed a few thousand DS Lites, it really helps save time and to speed up repairs. The dremel does an even more professional job than the straight sandpaper, since it's extremely precise. I assure you, scraping or sanding IS required - if it wasn't, then I would not have shown that's the way to fix the buttons. This is my job, I've fixed thousands of these over years for customers, I promise you IPA doesn't work. I've tried countless times and it never worked, but sanding those gold contacts works 100% of the time, like an absolute charm :)
Ipa can show you the difference with things, sometimes I mig weld mine when they are faulty works with things every time, if it doesn't I just angle grind it for a few mins, if it's still glitchy then I just pour a litre of ipa on it.
The backing doesn’t snap on where the ds cartridge opening is. I tried movie the black wire and even had it off . It is a 3rd party Pokédex shell so what could be making it not shut all the way?
is it common for one of the shoulder buttons to become a bit dodge on reassembly? tried taking it apart and refitting it several times but now it's like too "inwards" to the console to be able to click without pressing it in hard i've got a spare (broken) ds lite to salvage parts from in case i've somehow completely broken the shoulder button lol but yea just wondering EDIT: managed to fix it by literally holding the button as "up" as i could at the same time as screwing in the screws nearest to it :')
You know that weird goup that forms on PS/Xbox controllers? Like a light tan colored goup... some people call it finger cheese 😭 I honestly think that's what it was
Bro , u are a true hero. My left corner button wasnt working at all and i was thinking about replaceing it. Now its perfectly fine

What cleaning products is it safe to use for cleaning the grime below the buttons and other such crevices? Thank you 6:15
You can also fix this by pressing on above the X and above up arrow hard and it should work
Just ordered a repair from you!

@RetroRevolution what is the tiny metal thing in the L/R button that makes it click. I broke one of mine.:(
Or can you just link to somewhere to buy them. It would be greatly appreciated.
Yes of course, I can sell you one for cheap, what exactly are you looking for? The tiny little round metal piece that goes inside the shoulder button?
Yes I do mean the tiny metal circle in the shoulder button.
