My only constructive comment on this video would be that I don't think you stressed enough that people should not expect initially to be able to do anything close to what was shown in the video. In other words, people need to understand that when they first get a cast off they should only be moving their hand and wrist as much as is possible without creating actual pain. A certain level of discomfort is one thing, and that is to be expected during physical therapy or occupational therapy. However, when people are recovering from a wrist fracture and now have the cast off, they should not feel disheartened because they cannot do the exercises as they are shown in this here video. Any level of movement that they are able to accomplish is a good thing, and with each subsequent session of exercise they should try to push themselves a little bit more each time and eventually they will indeed see that they have a wider range of movement. But again ,you never want to do anything such that it will create actual pain for you.

    Hi Bob & Brad
Thanks so much for your videos. I've had my cast off three weeks ago. I'm in England & I didn't manage my post
-cast expectations very well. I'm in my late 50s & had no idea that i'd be in such discomfort & would have such nerve pain & soft tissue issues. Your exercises are very sensible & I'm tackling them reasonably well. I was prescribed gabepentin but so far I'm managing without. Love you guys.

Will do these slowly, taking breaks (no pun intended) during the process. Hopefully wrists will strengthen again at some point. These exercises are helping so much. Many thanks, from Virginia.

2 months ago I've involved with a motorvehicular accident and because of that my wrist got broken (distal radius, dislocated, closed, comminuted, fractured). I went thru closed reduction operation and the Dr. wrapped a cast from my wrist to my elbow. It took for 6 weeks before they conduct cast removal.
Today my cast have already removed and the status of my wrist is 70% healed but I need to undergo therapy after a week. The Dr. gave me 3 exercises (move the wrist forward and backward, tilt the wrist sideways and bicep curls). It really hurts and I cannot tolerate the pain. However as the time goes by the agony will be lessen if I get used to move my hand.
    Thanks for the informative demo.

Thank you soo so much, i had broken my wrist about 6 years ago back when i was 9 and about 3 months later after having the cast in (i genuinely dont know why i had to keep it in for 3 months when it wasn't broken that bad) but i removed it and i didn't do any wrist exercises right after at all, i just went back to my routine as normal but always found it strange how i was struggling to do a hand stand without my wrist feeling a bit of pain or rather not cooperating with me properly and the same thing has happened in this current time and these exercises make my wrist feel better and much stronger so thank you❤

I would love to do the exercises but cast off today and to be honest i was almost in tears from the pain even on gentle movement. I think these exercises must be for weeks after removal of cast . I am contacting my physio and will ask them what i ought to do. GP prescribed me codeine due to the pains, I never take painkillers ever. I think though the videos are really great and most helpful for the weeks/months to come thank you.

if I got it correct, you do exercises above and try as much as you can and no one expected both arms work the same. The idea is your broken arm will follow another in the end motion by motion, and you'll get its functions back.
It's my first day after 8 1/2 weeks, it is painful but I want it works.

Hi Sorry for the late response. I say, it healed very well, it was hard and painful in the beginning but i did it consistently but slowly, not overdoing it. I was worried then because of the pain between the knuckles and the wrist and the pain pulling your hand sideways towards the thumb. I just continue with the exercise and after 2 months i saw great improvement . Wishing you all the best

I’m glad there are people like you. I broke my wrist and had surgery to put a plate and 11 screws in it. The VA (Veterans Administration) hospital orthopedics took my cast off after 7 weeks with the break still broken (per X-ray). I was still not able to move my wrist at all and it hurt a ton. Over a month later in a brace, the pain is going away but I can’t move my wrist. They told me that when I return to ortho 9 weeks later they will then decide if I need pt. I hate the VA with a passion. I’m trying to find exercises to do on my own to get my range of motion back.

    • @suddendallas
      @suddendallas 4 роки тому

@@eddie4321 Well that all depends on your physical therapy. I chose not to go to physical therapy, but if you are consistent with exercising your hand it should go back to mostly normal in 2 months. I was having some people tell me wait 12 weeks before starting strenuous exercise like push ups.
It also depends on how much of a risk taker you are because even though I know it's fully healed at this point I still feel like if I crack my knuckles it'll shatter or something. xD

I have a distal radius/avulsion fracture in what I believe is called the traquetrum (?) bone in my wrist. After seeing the xrays of my hand, the doctor concluded that I only needed to have a cast for three weeks. Today the cast came off and while I have little to no swelling, I can't move my wrist like my other healthy wrist. Im speaking about my left wrist (thankful I'm a righty), I can't fully extended upwards or downwards, only a limited range, and the same goes for side to side. I experience light to moderate pain if I try to move the wrist in any of those directions. Hope these exercises work.

Will this help me regain full mobility? I've had my scaphoid surgery 5 years ago and PT didn't really help me, but I guess this will do since the exercises shown here are 100% different to what my PT gave me a few years ago.

today is 31March2020 - fell and broke my right wrist about 2 weeks before thanksgiving. i'm now able to type but using the shift still hurts so forgive lc only. the pt was twice a week until the coronavirus and now have missed 5 appointments. the ortho doc also cancelled 4/3 appt until june. so ... left to my own devices: i have been lax on exercising. it was easier to do the knee replacement exercises than doing the wrist. it's a good thing i am ambidextrous because my left is actually used more than my right - and i can write cursive/print with my left. whew!
i don't have a table like you show - so on what should i place my pillow?

Thanks for the video. I am from Morocco, my cas as follows; I had a broken wrist typically on my scaphoid; i had a surgery with bone graft from the hip; putting two wires within my scaphoid; and i have been in a cast for three months; then i removed the cast and the wires. now. I wonder how can i get back a fully bending motion of my wrist. would you mind telling me some useful exercices to do ? Much appreciated!

Thanks for the videos. The finger exercise was no problem but the very first wrist exercise in this video was a little painful for the wrist (radius) that was fractured. Should I continue to do these exercises lightly or should I stop and put the splint back on?

After wrist surgery and a plate 4 weeks ago SO painful still, thumb still numb and everything is just on fire. I guess it's to be expected? Surgeon said don't overdo what physical therapists demonstrate in therapy, go slower. I can see why he told me that with this mess of a wrist. How long will this take to decrease pain?
