MASSAGE FOR WRIST FRACTURE-After cast removal

  • Massage therapy for when the cast is removed after a wrist fracture can be very effective. When a joint is immobilized in a cast, there will be bone healing but there will be associated joint hypomobility/stiffness and muscle atrophy, tightness and weakness. Massage can help with mobilizations to increase joint range-of-motion, soft tissue release work to loosen tight muscles and teaching a patient strengthening exercises to restore strength and function.

    Thank you for your sharing. I had a total broken ulna and distal radius in my right arm for 6 weeks after surgery done next day. I am in pain and recovering through exercises and massage from these similar communities that I am learning.

    I broke my wrist 3 months ago. My therapist changed the style of massage today. She did something similar and I can tell how much it helped me. My wrist is much stronger than it was before... I will try to do it myself as much as I can.
    Thank you so much for sharing ❤👍😍

    Thank you...after 6 weeks in a big cast after breaking my wrist I have been in pain trying to get my hand moving again. I am still waiting to get into the physical therapy on Tuesday. I hope they will massage my hand, wrist, and up to my elbow because mine is swollen and painful too. I am doing as you showed for myself the best I can. 😊

    I was in a cast for almost two months, sadly, I didn't know i had to keep my fingers moving. They are so stiff. I wish I could get this massage.

    • @MotionRestoration
      @MotionRestoration  10 місяців тому +6

      Oh no, that’s not good! Sorry you weren’t given a protocol to follow with your fracture and cast.
      You can start doing massages yourself to get them moving, it works great after putting your hand in warm water for 2 min, cool water for 1, warm again for 2 min, repeat 2x for a total of 10 minutes. Then do a hand massage and move your joints. I know it can take some time though and I wish you the best of luck!!

    I sustain a lot of injuries in my line of work, and my left arm in particular still gives me jip after being shattered one time. Massage like this would have been fantastic after the cast came off from that, but it almost seems like there is some sort of law in the UK restricting all massage to a half-hearted squeeze of the shoulders and rub of the upper back. I might just have to come to Canada specially....

      I’m really sorry to hear that, I know there are different standards for massage therapy throughout the world, if you would like me to film a video on “how to massage your own wrist after cast removal”, I can do that for you!

      @@MotionRestoration That would be great, Miki - thank you! Although my main problem is with my left elbow: pretty much full functionality has been restored, but the muscles all round the joint feel very stringy and uncomfortable, and there is ulnar nerve pain right down into my hand.

    • @MotionRestoration
      @MotionRestoration  Рік тому +2

      @@hugojames85 ulnar nerve pain is awful! I really hope you can find some relief from that!

    • @hugojames85
      @hugojames85 Рік тому +2

      @@MotionRestoration It's more constant discomfort than measurable pain in my case. I found one MT ever who agreed to hard-massage the stringy muscles around the elbow, and I think that was only because she had just been stiffed out of a massage scholarship in America and was angry at the world. I also found an acupuncturist to set up an "over-stim feed-back loop" by needling either end of the damaged ulnar nerve, but then she appeared to flee the country rather than go through with it.

      @@chaitrachaitra2222 thank you for your comment, it depends on many factors; age, severity of the break, diet, level of activity, if you are doing rehabilitation stretches and exercises (physio/massage) and how often you do them, it comes down to your willingness and the effort you put in to your recovery.

      @MotionRestoration  10 днів тому +1

      @@chaitrachaitra2222 5 weeks is best case scenario, meaning; you followed your rehab protocol, you didn’t have a severe break, your not over 60, you eat a clean diet, etc... I have had many clients with fractures who are still in pain 2 years after the break, but they didn’t follow the rehabilitation plan for their injury after cast removal. Again, it’s the effort you put in after removal of the cast can indicate how you recover.
