I did a beautiful job fracturing my left wrist! Ugh! My birthday is in a few days. I went 35 years without one fracture. I have to go see a doctor about some orthopedics next week! Thanks for going to school to fix us people who are clumsy 😂
Hi, Dr. Zal zal. You were my first surgeon I saw about my arthritis in my legs. I ended up getting 2 knee replacements before I was 50. Unfortunately now I have broken my left wrist. I’ll try and see if I can send you my xray. I did a full frontal body slam on pavement trying to save my cat. No joke. So I fell and broke my left wrist. My wrist looks like it almost came all the way apart.
I fractured my wrist a few month's ago, went from splint to cast and now a brace. I've been flexing a lot, range is still struggling especially side to side. Still having pain in wrist, elbow and shoulder same arm.
I just came across this video at the right time having started my PT today. Oh yeah, I fell (pulled) down backwards as my granddog was enjoying a sudden exciting moment behind me and my hand was in the leash loop. :( I picked up Vd3/k2 drops yesterday thinking it would help with the healing. Thanks again rockin talkin Docs! Subscribed a while ago. 😊
Im 14 years old, and I broke my arm (closer to the wrist) playing basketball on Easter Sunday. I got my cast off around May 20th, and my wrist still hurts everytime I try to do something. What should I do?
Broke my wrist - radius and ulna. Plate and 9 screws. Can't even get close to any of these things; not even assisted. Typing with one hand. Guess it will take a LONG TIME!
@@teepee1938 Much better. I’m still in therapy. Everyone is different and it depends on where and how the break is I think it also depends on how knowledgeable the therapists are as well as patient compliance with doing the exercises given. I’m functioning, but still stiff and can’t put weight on my wrist as in doing a plant. Doesn’t even bend there yet. But there’s progress all the time even though slow. I encourage you to keep doing what you can and don’t give up. These take longer than typical.

Hi, I fell 6 weeks ago and was only put in a splint. I seeked a second opinion, and that doctor said he would have absolutely put me in a hard cast all around and to a longer length of my arm. My wrist still throbs and hurts so badly 😢. I'm so worried my distal radius fracture didn't heal right. Please do you have any advice?
thanks for this video.... I did have physio for two weeks(start 2 weeks after wrist fracture surgery, metal plate and screws) , 3 times a week . The last treatment was with hot towels for 15 minutes around my arm and then some more "aggressive" stretches of my wrist, more painful. That weekend after that I could do a lot more and without pain. After the weekend I got another therapist, because of vacation. She put ice on my arm before the exercise and then a few more exercises like in your video, but 3x more painful than before the weekend. After that I had a bluish swollen arm for a few days and I slept badly, it bothered me. I've stopped for a while now, do my exercises. Wait for the other physiotherapist to return in 1 week. Anyway, all in all, this seemed a bit too pushy to me... ?I'm now 4.5 weeks post surgery.
Hi Terry. Every patient and therapist combo is a bit unique. Sometimes some trial and error is involved. Best of luck to you. Thanks for watching and subscribing
had a scaphoid fracture surgery with 2 screws in.. after 4 weeks of cast my fingers r stiff as hell. cant strengthened them. I'm having a wrist brace on for another month.. will definitely do this... starting with my fingers. thank u
You are very welcome coats. Yes fingers can get thick and swollen for sure. Good luck with your physio. Thanks for watching and subscribing if you did.
Hi from London UK. I broke my wrist Dec 17th 2022. It was a nasty fracture CT showed it going right through the joint. I had to wait 20 days before an ORIF was done, prior to which I suffered extreme pain. Post surgery, extreme pain continued which developed into CRPS and infection. Pregabalin 50mg twice daily with 10mg Oxycodone is managing the nerve pain but there's always breakthrough pain. Unable to so phyaio properly claw hand remains. Unable to make a fist. Another surgery was done 4 weeks ago to remove plate and screws and carpel tunnel decompression. Nerve pain is still through the roof. When I do physio fingers swell, and pain begins.😢😢 Struggling with it now and very scared will lose the use of my hand as I am unable to grip or form a fist. Using anti inflammation meds and oramorph PRN. Taking turmeric, vit c, zinc supplements. I need a second opinion. Please assist me here. What do I do. I realise my situation is complex.Thank you!
Hi A. Sorry to hear this but it can happen for sure. A second opinion locally is a great idea but it sounds like you are doing everything you need to. Often just time. Best of luck
Hello doc, I had volar barton fracture on my right wrist 2 weeks ago . Orif with plate and screws were used to fix it 2 days after fracture. Cast has been removed and i have been given splint and told to keep moving my fingers . From next week my physio will start . I have always been active in gym and calisthenics. I wonder if ill ever be able to get back ? Whats your opinion about it (My age is 22 btw(

Hi Srikar. So it really depends on how bad the fracture is. Often younger people return to almost normal function. Thanks for watching, subscribing and sharing with someone if you did.
Is there any exercises I can do with my temp cast on. I don't want to be behind when i get this off but i also don't want to damage it more or not have it set right. I have been weight lifting can I continue with leg exercises or will the blood flow to my arm be affected while pumping weights? Thanks Drs
Hi Chantal. Sorry for delay. So you want to avoid getting the cast wet with sweat so sometimes you just need to really take it easy. Lower body stuff is ok with upper body casts and vice versa for lower body casts. Thanks for watching and subscribing if you did
Sorry to hear this Sharie. There are some specific treatment plans that include desensitization and physio but it is a complicated problem for sure. Inquire locally and don’t give up! Best of luck. Thanks for watching and subscribing
I feel like my cast isn't tight enough.... bc I can twist and move all of my wrist and hands... Not all the way, but a pretty good amount.... I've been keeping it moving as I am a mom and have no choice, but I was told movement is good as it bring blood flow.... But I feel when I get my cast off I will already be able to do a lot of this... Is this good or bad? Was my cast supposed to be tighter? My pain finally went away about 4 weeks in and the less pain means I'm doing even more with it. I hope I'm not slowly damaging it more if I should have a tighter cast... It is pretty roomy in here! I could slip it off if I really wanted to...
Just wondering if you guys use Toradol (Ketorolac) for acute Fx pain in Canada? A lot of the Ortho guys seem to be against it here in the US. Thoughts? I requested it a few years ago when I broke my mandible (apparently not all of us put our wrists out quick enough to protect our head/face 🤦♀️), and it worked fantastic, without the side effects of a narcotics.
Hi Betty. Yes we do. There are many different NSAIDs. Some physicians are concerned about bony union of fractures and fusions using NSAIDs. There are also the risks to kidney function and stomach upset but they are commonly used with supervision. Good luck and thanks for watching.
Depending on your specific situation, supination can wait until a little later. First things to recover are range of motion in pronation and in neutral position (thumb facing upwards). There are many more exercises that you can do that you don't see on this video.
So yes there are unlimited exercises you can do. We would tend to disagree though as pronation is almost always close to normal right away. Neutral thumb position is 0 supination which most people have right away. Supination and extension are most commonly the hardest ones to get back. Thanks for watching
@@TalkingWithDocs I think I explained myself poorly. I meant what you said. Pronation and 0 supination are easy even post-op. I fractured my wrist on April 3rd and got operated on April 20th to reduce it with plate+screws and right now I'm 30 days post op and still having trouble with supination and full range of motion up/down and left/right. I guess that's pretty normal at this stageI've already started FKT but I'm not seeing that much progress unfortunately. The stiloid hurts like hell if supination is forced passively. :(
Wrist fracture plate and six screws surgery March 25. Two days ago stitches taken out. Was given a removable splint. Is it safe for me to remove the splint and do the exercises that you guys showed on this video.
Thanks for the vid! I had my arm cast off 3 weeks ago after surgery for an ECU sub-sheath tear 8 weeks ago (an injury from 1.5 years ago when I broke my triquetrum). I wore a thermoplastic splint gradually less and less for the 2 weeks after, and now I’m out of that too. I’m trying but I still can’t pronate or supinate at all really. Is that normal? I’m worried it’s stuck because of scar tissue or something….
Mine cast has removed 2days ago after minor wrist fracture doc said that to apply bandage and remove it when sleeping. Why putting bandage. Can in so exercise on bandage??
What are your preferences for treating Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome, CRPS, post distal radius fracture? Also what are your opinions on Vitamin C administration for the same to diminish symptoms?
Hi Denise. CRPS is a complicated problem with many different strategies to reduce the symptoms. They often include desensitization programs, medications including pain control, NSAIDs and nerve agents. Physio will often play a role. Topicals are often employed as well. The best approach is to get it addressed sooner rather than later and stick with it. Good luck and thanks for watching.
@@TalkingWithDocs Luckily I have no issue with the same. Tricky business agreed, sooner than later options apply! Happy New Year to Dr. B. and Dr.Z.!!!

Helloo doc n doc. I’m 62 yr old grandma & I did a not so graceful FOOSH on ice march 3. Had surgery the 10th. Surgeon never stopped in n said surg went well or nothing. I got plates n screws but I don’t know anything else. The day after surg tho I got a call from drs office and was asked… “are you doin your pronate /supinate exercises ?” I said I was TRYING but could NOT get my arm to turn that far. So here I am… 5 days post op. I still can’t pro or sup. And my thumb dosent move much at all either. I thought you’re sposed to go slow n let bones heal some before doing to much exercises ? When I try to pro/sup now it feels like my wrist bone is jamming up against the splint. Aka… splint is to tight to allow much movement. Or… it just plain hurts like hell. I tried callin docs but had to leave a VM, and they never called me back.
Hi mari. Early on it can be quite painful and the splint can be limiting. Do your best. Likely have a follow up at 2 weeks. All the best. Thanks for watching and subscribing

I have plate and screws inside of it and it’s getting a lot better. It’s still stif as anything but the movement is coming back. How are you doing now? Is your wrist back to 100%? I am 4 weeks following surgery after distal radius fracture. Is there Hope?
Hi, Dr.
Thank you!

I fractured my wrist a few month's ago, went from splint to cast and now a brace. I've been flexing a lot, range is still struggling especially side to side. Still having pain in wrist, elbow and shoulder same arm.

Im 14 years old, and I broke my arm (closer to the wrist) playing basketball on Easter Sunday. I got my cast off around May 20th, and my wrist still hurts everytime I try to do something. What should I do?
The “take it on the bucket” head choreography!! Hilarious!!
Hi Bebe. So that was actually not rehearsed. We had a laugh though after we saw it too. Thanks for watching.
Broke my wrist - radius and ulna. Plate and 9 screws. Can't even get close to any of these things; not even assisted. Typing with one hand. Guess it will take a LONG TIME!
Same here. 9 screws. Dominant right wrist + thumb too 😢
How do you feel after a month?
@@teepee1938 Much better. I’m still in therapy. Everyone is different and it depends on where and how the break is I think it also depends on how knowledgeable the therapists are as well as patient compliance with doing the exercises given. I’m functioning, but still stiff and can’t put weight on my wrist as in doing a plant. Doesn’t even bend there yet. But there’s progress all the time even though slow.
I encourage you to keep doing what you can and don’t give up. These take longer than typical.

It's was on 15th Nov 2024...They put me in casting and 2 k wires from my end of the left wrist...And it was so painful and swelling in my finger...Too much discomfort..and then came back from my vacation to USA..They change my cast to another cast..And my cast and k wires was removed on 27th Dec 2024..Now ,i am still having too much discomfort and pain..My reports says CRPS..My doctor wants me to see Pain management doctor..I can't do my exercises with PT..I trying to move my finger...its works but not all the way fold...so my question is after i see the pain management doctor,i feel better??? and can do my PT exercises later on( hopefully).in my last reports ,it's mention that intra-articular fracture of lower end of left radius, subsequent encounter for closed fracture with routine healing..This means i am still healing well??? I need to know, is everything okay with me??? I will really appreciate if u reply asap!! I will be in waiting for your reply...And also i wants to knlw about my recovery time .Do i feel better soon?? Hi, I fell 6 weeks ago and was only put in a splint. I seeked a second opinion, and that doctor said he would have absolutely put me in a hard cast all around and to a longer length of my arm. My wrist still throbs and hurts so badly 😢. I'm so worried my distal radius fracture didn't heal right. Please do you have any advice?
Distal radial fracture intra articular repair one week ago and I’m a pianist any other helpful tricks ❤
thanks for this video....

Hi, how are you doing now?
Can i do this 2 weeks after the wrist fracture surgery, i'm finding it difficult to do supination and pronation movement???
Hello doc,
I had volar barton fracture on my right wrist 2 weeks ago . Orif with plate and screws were used to fix it 2 days after fracture. Cast has been removed and i have been given splint and told to keep moving my fingers . From next week my physio will start .
I have always been active in gym and calisthenics. I wonder if ill ever be able to get back ?
Whats your opinion about it
(My age is 22 btw(
Often you will. Just need time for the bone to heal and then lots of physio

How soon after a cast-removal should i start physiotherapy....(fractured wrist) ? Thanks for your video.

After I healed a broken wrist will my wrist be the same as the other one? Asking this cuz I am a bb player and it might make a diff to my career my fracture is a Bowing fracture by the way

Thanks for watching and subscribing if you did
I broke my wrist and required surgery . I now have CRPS. Is there anything that can be done or to help this.? Ps. You two are amazing
I had surgery..doctor fixed platinum plate..into the wrist.. shall I continue with this expertise
You should discuss physio with your doctor. Good luck. Thanks for watching and subscribing
Yea got a screw in my scaphoid last 16th can do all these at a minor level, that’s definitely the worst

We would say that stiffness is common but the longer it exists the higher the chance it would be permanent
